The fact that I've lived 3 miles away and have never been here for the past year is embarrassing! I think it's possibly because I didn't like the one in Vienna so I felt it was the same but quite frankly I am wrong! Also you can't beat that its opened 24 hours. The first time I came, I had the corned beef hash meal and It has become my favorite corned beef dish anywhere! They use REAL meat, not the one from the store that looks similar in most places. It's tender, chunky pieces of meat with small bits of potatoes. Oh man!! I could really eat it everyday. Then I came back about two weeks later and decided to try buffalo wings and cobb salad. The buffalo sauce is like a mix of bbq and buffalo to me, a little tangy and has a kick to it. I could put that ish on everything! Cobb salad comes with heaping portions of bacon, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, corn, chicken and boiled eggs. I could barely get through half but it was very delicious. The prices here are on the cheaper side but you can't beat the quality and flavor. There's something here for everyone, it's like a cheesecake factory menu. But speaking of dessert, all the sugary goods in the front is what gets me. I usually go to their bakery about 5 minutes down the street because they have a much bigger selection from brownies to macarons. Some of my favorite items: - key lime pie: very lightweight and fresh flavor - better than the one at Morton's steakhouse LOL and half the cost - cherry cheesecake: a light airy cheesecake with cherries and cherry sauce on top. Nothing like you would expect from a typical "diner" - spinach and artichoke dip: comes with pita bread and is more than enough for 3-4 people appetizer - apple pie/apple pastry: similar tastes but both very good. Balanced spice mixture in the filling - Bavarian fresh fruit cake: recommend for people who aren't a sweet tooth, the filling/frosting is not too sweet and the cake is very fluffy. Cream is similar to a whipped cream - tiramisu cake: has a noticeable amaretto taste (I think...) it does not taste like the typical tiramisu you get at an Italian restaurant. I'm not sure if this is more "authentic". It's still good though and kind of interesting The only item I've tried so far that I wouldn't recommend is the chocolate cake. Best house made corned beef hash in the DVM--and I've been on the hunt for years. (I regret not grabbing a photo of it, but was too busy enjoying it. The dish was a unique blend of fresh corned beef, potatoes, and onions with a few other tasty ingredients that made it uniquely flavorful. Perfect on the Texas-style white toast and topped with eggs. Coffee (Lavazza) was delicious and plentifully refilled. Everything we ordered was fantastic and we wish we had room for more. (The French toast and interesting Benedict's looked great and seemed to get rave reviews from nearby diners.) Service was old school--warm, attentive, true hospitality. Watch out for the bakery. I went in today to pick up some cookies for a friend's Halloween. I saw the coffin cookies, which are amazing looking and I planned to display them like a graveyard. The man behind the counter warned me that the cookies were almost $4 each and I could get a cake for that price. I said I wanted the cookies and s mix of the vampires, Frankenstein, skulls was good. I ran to the ladies room and when I returned, I saw him pick up a ghost abd said "No, I only want coffins." He repeated back to me-ok, only coffins and he finished filling the box. The man behind the counter spoke excellent English. I got my taped up box of cookies home and opened them to transfer to Tupperware. To my dismay, I only got a few coffins and then random other cookies, like a maple leaf and black cat. A few, like the black cat, we're very simple and small-not nearly the levels of the coffins. Abd, now my whole idea was blown-I wanted a graveyard arrangement. I called the manager and he apologized, but nothing was done. I live over an hour away, so there was no question of me coming back. He said if I ever come in, to mention his name for a discount. What?! I can haz gyro?! Squee! What Amphora diner doesn't have in quality, it makes up for in quantity. For under $10, I had the most immense pita piled up with lettuce, tomatoes, and slice upon slice of salty gyro meat. Then there were the nellie-wristed limp fries (sad) and the crispy fried zucchini (crunchy and good, but grease-laden). I was full after half of my dish, but ended up finishing the whole thing off, just because it was in front of me (and it was darn tasty). I'm a glutton like that. Apparently the magic here is their pie menu. The options are nearly limitless. It's kind of like a Baker's Square (do those exist outside the Midwest?). My favorite red-head and I split the lemon meringue, which was an extremely ample sixth of the pie, towering with whipped meringue loaded on top of creamy tart lemony goodness. Total win. The service here is pretty brusque, and they brought our check as soon as we were done with our entrees - you know what assuming does. To me, a diner means a huge menu with everything from breakfast all day through entree plates and a big dessert counter. And that's what they have at Amphora. Except it's fancier with a waitstaff in decent uniforms. It was breakfast time for me, so I went with breakfast though I think the entire menu is available all day. I had the pancake and eggs special, which also included sausages and I had an extra side of toast. The eggs were cooked properly and the toast was excellent, but the highlight here were the pancakes. Simply awesome. A little fluffy, a little crunchy on the bottom and a perfect sponge for butter and syrup. Very very good. Lavazza coffee was excellent and my cup was kept refilled as often as I liked. After the meal, I sat for a bit with my laptop and more coffee. No one seemed to mind. One and a half stars. Jeff W and I were ravenous after a night of music and bachelorette party debauchery, and at 3 am the options for food run slim. I know he wants to slap me upside the head for noticing this, but with only a handful of other customers in the place I was surprised that we were seated at the one booth that had a trashed placemat and napkins littered under the table. But really these reviews are about food, so. Jeff kept it simple with breakfast essentials but I decided to test drive the California eggs Benedict. Turkey breast and avocado slathered with eggy goodness and Hollandaise sauce? All things I love. Sadly the execution fell short; clearly I should've followed the example of the guy reading in his booth across the aisle and gotten steak and eggs, his plate smelled tasty. Hollandaise was passable for diner food, and the egg was poached nicely. Turkey breast was pretty dry, avocado wasn't ripe, and the English muffin wasn't even toasted after it was pulled out of the fridge with all that chilly dew adding an unpleasant, stale note to the plate. Womp womp. At least the home fries didn't offend after some hefty seasoning on my part. Shepherds pie was bland and greasy, heavy on mashed potatoes. Wouldn't order again. Turtle fudge sundae came with a heavy chocolate sauce drizzle in the glass, and a 50/50 split of caramel vs chocolate chips. Sugar... overload. At least the service was friendly, though some had different opinions on whether to wish us a good night or good morning. God bless graveyard shift at 24-hour diners. We were impatient to head home at 5 am so we took our bill up to the register since there were only three staff members out front. Came here with a friend around 9am, the place was still pretty quiet at the time and it feels very spacious! The service was attentive and the server never let our coffee mugs go empty. We took a little longer to place our food order because there were too much to choose from in the menu, which can be a good thing and bad thing, it is a full menu they have everything!! Great if you want options but it is going to be hard for people who are indecisive. I ended up choosing the eggs benedict which came out to be amazing, the Hollandaise sauce was on point, texture was well made and even the potatoes were tasty! The coffee was a little bland from how I normally make mine, but it is one of the best ones you can expect from a diner quality so it is definitely a plus! I can't wait to go back and try some of their all-day breakfast. This time, after poring over the menu in advance the way I often do, I decided on something more savory for dinner: vegetarian moussaka. Granted, once I got there (and walked past the ever-so-tempting dessert case) and saw the physical menu with all its offerings, I considered changing my mind. There was a very tempting description of classic French toast. And I hadn't seen the *classic* moussaka listed under the classics in my earlier perusing, and I almost got it, but it was pricier for the beef variant and came with two sides, which seemed a little daunting. I was very pleased with my choice. The potato slices and eggplant slices were wonderfully put together, and the tomato sauce isn't too over-powering with any seasonings, letting the plump golden raisins shine through with bursts of sweetness. I chose the fruit cup as my side, and I braced myself to be prepared for a few pieces of fruit. I've been to other places where they literally call five pieces of fruit in a disposable mouthwash cup a side fruit salad...this was a generous amount. I was more than satisfied with my moussaka portion, and the fruit felt like a good helping of dessert. Okay. I mean it. I'm sorry to say that the food was simply bad. My friends and I were excited to go to a diner after an event. We had a party of 5. Our fries, onion rings, & potatoes were not fully cooked. The manager said they had a problem with their fryer, yet served us uncooked food anyway. My burger was so bad--flavorless and poorly cooked--that I had to send it back. My friends ate their omelets because they were so hungry, but all said they were dry and flavorless. The manager gave us some cheesecake gratis as a kind of consolation, though it really wasn't good either. Very processed & artificial tasting. The servers were very pleasant, though not attentive. After cancelling original Tuesday Night dinner plans, I ended up at Amphora - and was overall pleasantly surprised. The first thing I noticed was the themeing of the exterior - it's both grand and humble at the same time. I made a playful comment that it looks like it belonged in an amusement park. But after walking in - this cozy diner's decor was scores above what I expected or had ever seen in a diner before. Within seconds of walking in, my date and I were greeted and seated. Which brings me to those menus. WOAH. If you have a hard time choosing what to eat on a day to day basis - don't come here alone! Haha. The menu is massive and includes everything from traditional breakfast, to Mediterranean, to seafood. I was admittedly overwhelmed, but after much deliberation, I decided to try the Amphora Deluxe (+ Pepperjack Cheese & Bacon). Before long, the food had arrived and LOOKED STUNNING. Which did no justice to how amazing it tasted. Everything was spot on and as ordered - honestly no complaint as far as the food goes. The French fries were hot and crisp, the burger was amazing, and even the onion ring on the side was a nice tasting surprise. The gentleman server who helped us was incredibly attentive throughout the entire experience. And despite being the only server on the floor (tending to 6 tables at once), never once did I feel like I had to LOOK for him, or that there was a NEED for him (because he was always there). In every great situation, I always look to find SOMETHING to nitpick about. The only thing I could honestly tell you stood out during my visit was how still the atmosphere was. Not that every restaurant needs background music to complete the experience, but being able to hear everyone else's conversations so clearly made me a little hesitant to speak freely. I know that wasnt the intention, but it was just something I noticed. Towards the end of the dining, the server asked about dessert (which we declined, because we were stuffed) - and he ended up bringing out a plate of decorative cookies to top off an excellent overall experience. A nice gesture indeed, but it turned out to be the only negative thing about the visit. I'm not much of a dessert person myself - but my date was not a fan. It pains me to write a two-star review, but I had a pretty bad experience here. First of all, when we got to our table it was dirty, and the host kind of laughed about it as he wiped off our table (unprofessional?). Then, we sat and waited for at least 15 minutes before we finally had to flag over our waitress to take our drink order. The rest of the meal had equally slow service, and she messed up my order (added onions to an omelette that wasn't supposed to have any). Great spot to go for breakfast during the week especially if you want to meet with colleagues and talk a little business. Parking is plentiful and easy. They have several large tables for bigger groups along with numerous big comfy booths. Their menu is quite extensive for breakfast but if you don't see exactly what you want just ask as they are quite accommodating. I went with the standard ham and eggs. The ham slice was huge and nicely grilled with the scrambled eggs slightly runny for my liking but still good. The potatoes were a hot mess but enjoyable. They have quite a selection of baked goods available under glass up front. On this last visit, they had some wonderful egg shaped cakes on display for Easter. Stopped by to pick up a quick breakfast on my way to work this morning. The whole experience was by no means quick however. This place is reminiscent of the diners that you see in old time films. The entrance is grand and opulent sort of like the display board from an old movie theater. The inside is similar and feels like you've stepped into the past. Time seems to have stood still and it isn't your imagination the wait staff moves really slowly as well. I got a simple breakfast of eggs, toast and bacon and it was just okay. The Tex-Mex rolls were well-fried on one side and almost raw on the other. Then the let down of the night, the Philly Cheesesteak sub. It came out with a super cold white bread, then barely had any meat in it, and the super soggy french fries. We told our server about the fries and they gave us a fresh new plate of super soggy french fries. So disappointed. They do not take reservations, so there will be a wait but i was impressed how quickly they got folks seated. The menu is quite extensive with many options and many beverage choices. We sampled the burger, cinnamon french toast with sausage, the biscuit w/sausage gravy and the waffle w/ eggs & bacon. Good size portions (to go boxes are available). The service was quick and efficient. They have quite a bakery that has all the delights you could want from pie, cakes and cookies.
