One of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in ages. This is all because of the food, not service. The bartender was very sweet and understanding when we sent back 3 out of 4 of our dishes. Damn True Food has gone down hill in recent years. The cauliflower to start came out cold, with some strange orange sauce they claimed to be "tahini" but it tasted more like plastic. Sent it back and asked for a chia pudding instead. You wanna know what that was like? 4 day old refrigerated lumpy water that tasted like a combination of everything that was also in the fridge. Then the southwest tofu scramble left me floored. Cold again, but the plate was hot. Micro much? For a place that claims to prioritize good food, ingredients and be intentional about it all, it left me feeling a little sick. I was looking for a new restaurant that had healthy food at decent prices, and bonus points if it tasted good, but wasn't expecting it. In this search I found True Food Kitchen. This was the most delicious healthy food I've ever had! I always get it to go so I can't say much about the service or ambiance other than the fact that they are always kind and never get an order wrong. I ordered a lot the first time because I wanted to have a good idea of what the quality was with True Food Kitchen. I ordered their guacamole with flatbread which was perfectly tangy and fresh and has 6g of protein and only 330 calories! Even if I ate the whole thing by myself I wouldn't feel guilty. I would say that the flatbread is a bit bland but other than that it's a pretty good starter especially for those macros. I give it a 3.5/5 Next I had the Edamame Dumplings which has white truffle oil, dashi, thai basil, sesame seeds, has 12g of protein and is only 270 calories!! This one was bursting with flavor in every bite, from the mouth watering truffle flavor in the sauce to the dumplings which tasted as indulgent as mashed potatoes, this was probably one of my favorites at True food Kitchen. I would rate it a 5/5 for sure! For sides I had the cheesy mashed potatoes which has 5g of protein and only 200 cals. I would say these are decent but not my favorite as it had a flavor I didn't quite like, but still is a good option for those not as picky as me. I would rate it a 2.5/5 Next I had the kale salad, and OMG it was amazing! I usually hate kale but True Food Kitchen's kale salad is so good that I actually would eat this every day! It has Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs and a perfectly blended lemon based dressing which is so good I scrape the bowl clean. It's also only got 120 calories and 3g of protein for the huge portion, so it's super healthy for you, and filling. I rate this a 5/5 Don't forget to get the Kale aid as a drink as well, which has organic kale, ginger, organic apple, celery, cucumber, and lemon and is only 100 calories. It's very refreshing and the flavor is so good you don't taste the greens. It's a 5/5 for sure! Lastly and one of my all time favorites here is the Turkey Burger which has Diestel Farms turkey, smoked gouda, avocado, tomato, butter lettuce, jalapeño remoulade, and their TFK house special sauce. The turkey by itself is delicious and such a huge portion! It's perfectly spiced and doesn't need anything else, though the other ingredients are fresh (I love that they have butter lettuce so it's a nice texture, plus it's tasty), their tomatoes are always red and top notch. But omg we need to talk about their sauces! The house sauce is delicious! It's unique to their store, but kind of like a mayo ketchup blend but more sophisticated. The jalapeño remoulade is tangy and addicting but not spicy despite the name. I love that they have two unique sauces on one burger! To top it off the whole thing has only 600 calories and a whopping 43g of protein! Talk about nutrition goals! It's definitely a 5/5 for me! TLDR: True Food Kitchen is truly healthy food that will leave your mouth watering! Every bite is a joy, and still keeps you on track with your healthy goals. The prices aren't bad, but definitely more than fast food for sure. The service is always great and this is one of my new favorite places to eat! Definitely recommend! read more

Worst experience.. went there on Valentine's day with my wife. All good till we ordered food & drinks. We did not receive the drinks till the time we finished apps and main course.. which was almost 1 hour after we ordered. Server kept telling us that the bar was backed up with orders and we should get it soon but drinks never arrived. On top of all.. Such a good dining experience! I highly recommend coming here if you have someone with dietary restrictions because they have the most amazing options for vegan and gluten-free. I personally do not have any of those restrictions and I still absolutely loved the dish that I got! They have a bunch of variety which is really cool. You can get a hamburger or curry or Korean noodles! Our waiter was really kind and even gave us a sample of the seasonal soup! My wife and I were walking around Reston Town Center and decided it was time to grab a bite for lunch. We first sat down at North Italia, but left because the menu was uninspiring and overpriced. We came upon True Food Kitchen and thought the menu looked to be in our wheelhouse. We were correct. Once seated, our server, Anabelle, provided us with an excellent overview of the menu. We decided to start with the guacamole, which turned out to be an excellent decision. The guacamole was freshly made and had a bright and crisp taste. The accompanying flatbread chips went well with the dip, even more than tortillas would have. For our entrees, my wife enjoyed the Mediterranean breakfast bowl. This bowl Includes Vital Farms pasture-raised jammy eggs, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, chickpeas, watermelon radish, za'atar vinaigrette, tzatziki, dill, spicy herb sauce, lavash. She loved every last bit of her bowl. I decided to try the Turkey burger, which came with smoked gouda, avocado, organic tomato, butter lettuce and jalapeño remoulade. This came with a side salad of organic kale, parmesan, breadcrumbs, lemon, garlic. I would recommend both the burger, as well as the entree size kale salad. My lunch was fresh, savory and well cooked. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. The restaurant is very comfortable and the service is excellent. Also, given the focus on whole foods and healthy options, you leave the restaurant feeling satisfied, but not overloaded with carbs and saturated fats. Dined here this past Sunday with some friends and really enjoyed. I'm on a healthier, cleaner eating journey and was pleased to see True Food focuses on whole, real food. We shared the chopped salad - phenomenal! I'm not a huge salad person, but this salad here slaps! I ordered the lasagne al pesto, which was pretty good. I do wish it had more turkey sausage bolognese, but nonetheless it was tasty. Restaurant decor and atmosphere was lovely, very clean and spacious. Amazing staff and service! The cheesy mashed potatoes were good but not worth the $6 price tag as a small bowled side. I do not recommend getting the lavender matcha latte. There was barely any matcha flavor at all (a sign of good matcha is a slightly bitter taste), and the lavender syrup was basically just sugar, so this drink ended up tasting like sugary milk ($6.50) Plenty of seating inside and out with airy space and friendly staff. read more

This is literally my new favorite place! I didn't know what to expect, so let me inform you of how amazing this place is! Right off the cuff, I was greeted by Chris, my waiter that flawlessly helped me choose my drinks and food for brunch. The menu is vast, and having that helpful information about each dish from him was crucial in getting the food I was in the mood for. I got a cappuccino that was infused with lavender, which I wasn't sure about, but let me say I enjoyed it enough to get a second one. My brunch was the farmer scramble that I loved, along with pancakes. I don't know, which was more amazing because I never had pancakes that tasted like these.. it was a mix of brown sugar and cinnamon with maybe oats or granola? A must try! I then finished and ordered a smoked old fashion that is also like nothing I've had, and I've had my fair share of old fashions. Not only did it taste great, but the display and presentation of it were top-notch quality! Well done, True Food Kitchen! Chris is a keeper! And who every the cook is, is too! Fire alarm went off. Apparently a recurring thing and they had no plan for how to deal with it. They had time to take our money though. We weren't even done with our food. Food was mediocre and overpriced. Waitstaff were inexperienced and inattentive and awkward. Awful dining experience. Please train your staff on how to deal with alarms, even when they're false. Alarms are also bad for your hearing, don't expect people to be exposed to them. read more

The restaurant was empty and that should have been a clue. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The overall ambiance was ok, Just very open. My partner had a bowl which she described as "ok" but the salmon was not good. I had a hamburger, it was more or less cooked to order, it was not very good. The mashed potatoes were very good. Our first time, we choose it base on the concept of healthy food and light lunch. We had friends visiting town from Europe. The decor was minimum and clean, very refreshing and on brand. While I can appreciate the concept and most of the preparation. There are a few major mishaps. 1. For an alternative dining restaurant, their alternative choice was actually quite limited. Only dairy options were cow and almond. No choices for bread, only sourdough. Etc. 2. Menu items are missing crucial details. Salad dressing that has chili flakes but not mentioned any where by anyone. Children's side of hummus was spicy but not notified. 3. Servers seemed to be under-educated on their own menu items. The menu is not big, but even a simple question of "what is the dressing for this salad" was met by: let me check with the chef. While this was a casual lunch, it was not a cheap one. Their seasonal fare is usually outstanding. We also love trying their non-alcoholic drinks as they're very creative and refreshing. Dishes come and go so if you try something you like you should go back while they have it. The first time we tried True Food was years ago and they had something called "The Inside Out Burger". Came with a group of 8 for dinner and was a little disappointed - I had an okay experience at the Bethesda location and was hoping for a better one here. A friend and I shared the margarita pizza, which was good but nothing notable. I couldn't tell if it was frozen or not, but it was thin crusted and tasted like a standard pizza. My friends tried the chicken pesto bowl and burger (can't remember the rest), but unfortunately everyone was dissatisfied with their meals and didn't finish. I think food quality and flavor missed the mark here. The assistant general manager also offered us free dessert in exchange for a 5-star review on Google or Yelp if we mentioned his name. He offered us some chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream to share. The cookies were supposed to be a healthier version - they tasted different, kind of like oats.
