Calamari
Carol D.

I have been wanting to try this cute speakeasy in Open Road Distillery. It's behind a nondescript door near the bathrooms. Food (5/5): I could not believe that this cute speakeasy had a $10 drink and $10 food menu from 4-6pm on weekdays. it's definitely one of the best deals in the NOVA area for Happy Hour! The best part is that you can get the happy hour menu anywhere at the tables not just the bar! This is amazing!!! https://heirloomreston.com/hh/ $10 Happy Hour food: CRISPY CALAMARI parmesan, vodka sauce, pesto aioli - this was amazing.. really good calamari that melts in your mouth! WAGYU MEATBALLS marinara, garlic bread - these were really hearty and delicious BELGIAN STYLE MOULES FRITES applewood smoked bacon, leeks, fines herbes - these were great - they came with a big side of fries and the mussels were really good. SHORT RIB AND CHEESE SLIDERS pickled pepper relish, mornay sauce - these were my least favorite of the HH food - the short rib was was a bit mealy in texture and you could't really taste the cheese. There was only 2 sliders per order. We also tried the burrata ($19) which was not on the happy hour menu, but it was delicious. The flavors were complex and it was a balanced dish and totally worth it. Drink: Gold rush ($10) was a fabulous drink. We were celebrating a birthday and at the end of the meal they brought out half glasses of prosecco for us. it was a great way to end the meal! Service (5/5): We had a great server. One of my friends had been there before and knew one of the sommeliers and he sent over a free focaccia. This was great, although the bread was more like a thick wheat bread rather than a traditional focaccia. Ambiance (5/5): The private velvet booths were great. I really enjoyed the quietness of the restaurant

Heirloom is tucked inside Open Road Distillery. As LOUD and raucous as Open Road is, Heirloom is quiet and relaxing and luxurious. The service was excellent. Our waiter Grant was very attentive and sweet. My friend asked questions about wine, and they brought her 2 sample pours with recommendations for a 3rd wine to consider - and the offer of a sample pour of that as well. She enjoyed the recommended vintage. We started with the herb focaccia. It came with 3 delicious spreads but the whipped ricotta was my fav. My friend had the beef bolognese and really enjoyed it. I didn't taste any but it smelled divine. I had the cioppino which was full of seafood in a rich tomato-based broth - super yummy. We shared the sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The food was great as was the service. We'll definitely return.

Heirloom is where my partner and I got dinner after we got married/eloped. Our server on Sept 5 made it feel special for us, and we're really grateful for him! We caught the tail end of happy hour and ordered everything on the menu to start. It was filling so we didn't end up ordering additional food. However, everything was delicious. If we had to choose, the french onion dip was probably our least favorite of the selection. We also enjoyed the "FRESH Out" mocktail and the "Sunset in Reston" cocktail. The tiramisu was an interesting take on the classic dessert. They also brought out a little extra sweet for us and glasses of champagne. I can't wait to go back! I love the ambiance.

A hidden gem! Tucked away in the distillery is heirloom in speakeasy style, classy charming and intimate. It encompasses fine dining and homestyle cooking. The service was phenomenal. from recommending vegetarian options (which there were plenty) to bringing out a specially decorated dessert for my mom who's birthday we were celebrating. We will definitely be back again! All the food was delicious and we had no leftovers

Heirloom never disappoints! The food is always fresh (I could eat their mussels every day)! Our server was fantastic. I never had to ask for a refill and she checked in on us frequently (it was a friend's bday and she brought us all champagne). The ambiance is moody - it's honestly pretty dark - we all have to bring out of our phones to read the menu but worth it, and it's unique in that way. The entrance can be tricky, as it's literally inside Open Road - and through two black doors (thought it was for employees only). There's ample parking in the garages too!

Mussels

The mussels on the main menu were really good with that sweet and savory tomato broth dipped in the buttery herby toast. The herb focaccia was a very sourdough cold bread, which wasn't the best recommendation by the waiter but it did give us more bread to dip the mussel broth in. The bucatini was a THICK noodle, which was so good with a rich tomato meat sauce. For mains, we got the short rib which was so tender and soft with a rich and thick sauce (but also a tad bit too salty for me). The cab filet was cooked perfectly (the answer is always medium rare) and cut so easily--a good amount of fat on it. For dessert we got the peach cobbler, and the sticky toffee. The peach cobbler was a lighter dessert and paired well with ice cream while the sticky toffee was so rich and tasted a bit like cereal from the toffee (would have been nice to have a bitter black coffee to go with it).

Visited Heirloom Saturday night to celebrate a birthday and it was such a great experience. There is a parking deck right across the street but come alittle earlier than your reservation as it gives DC wharf parking garage. The speakeasy is tucked away in open road distillery so easy to find, tell the hostess you're looking for heirloom once you enter the restaurant. The vibe is super cute, cozy, dark lights, seating and aesthetic are chef's kiss, there is sexy and romantic feel (true speakeasy vibes in the northern Va area). There is music playing in the background that gives r&b date night/feel good and is high enough to hear and sing if you please but low enough not to disrupt your conversation. The waiter and service were amazing and he was very knowledgeable about the menu. Recommended a few items, a couple of which we selected. At the table we had the: 1. house made focaccia (the tomato fondue and the ricotta spread were the highlights of the three spreads) 2. short rib ravioli: so goood but be mindful it's a small serving that will leave you yearning for more if you brought an appetite 3. Heirloom burger: juicy and flavorful, the side of Parmesan crispy layer potatoes didn't have much flavor but the crispiness of them were great 4. Dessert: peach cobbler: warm and delightful and a pretty good size! Drinks: we had the bartenders flavor of the week, the Ken vs ryu, the cafe de soul (a play on an espresso martini but tropical), and the proper latte. All were 10/10, 100% recommend. They have a mixologist back there not a bartender. We ended the night with two free glasses of champagne to celebrate the birthday. 1,000% will return as this really is a special and great spot without having to go to DC for folks who love speakeasies like I do.

Very impressed with Reston! This is such a great addition to the area. Fun little speakeasy inside of the distillery. Really pretty in there, love the lighting, love the bar. Service was great, no issues. Drinks were decent but kind of expected more. Food was fantastic. We started with focaccia that came with 3 spreads, and honestly keep some to dip in all the sauces from the apps and entrees. We had the baked shrimp and octopus, octopus was reallllyyy good and unlike any octopus I've had before. For the mains we shared the gnocchi which was the perfect texture, the seabass that melted in your mouth, and the short rib that was so tender and flavorful. Everything was really good! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Beef Carpaccio

Heirloom is a speakeasy-style restaurant hidden inside a brewing company. Once inside, the atmosphere feels intimate with low lighting and smaller table seating. The space is beautiful, highlighted by a stunning bar display. The food is absolutely delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Heirloom changes its menu occasionally. The offerings from December were completely different from my most recent visit in May. I was a little sad to see the wagyu pasta and wagyu burger go, but I was not disappointed with the new selections. During this visit, we started with the beef carpaccio, which was a bit overly salted but still enjoyable, and the baked shrimp, which was perfect. For my entrée, I had the short rib, which was incredibly tender and juicy. It practically melted in my mouth. All of the desserts were outstanding and definitely worth saving room for. Service has always been excellent. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and provide thoughtful recommendations when needed. I highly recommend making a reservation, as this place tends to be fully booked on weekends. If you are not able to get the date or time you want, check back a few hours before your visit because openings sometimes become available.

House Made Herb Focaccia

Heirloom is inside of Open Road Distilling Co. behind onyx black doors towards the back of the brewery. It was such a fun speakeasy experience for my friends and me this past Thursday evening. I wasn't expecting much because I'm not into alcoholic drinks, but the interior was elegant, dark, yet lively ambiance! Also, the food was, for the most part, really good?? This is rare for a spot that is more known for their drinks. LA VARIABLE - 14 This is their weekly non-alcoholic drink (not the actual name of it) but it was a green tea (?) based drink with a really creamy matcha foam that was delicious. It was not too sweet, flavors went well together, and it honestly was gone too quickly. HOUSE MADE HERB FOCACCIA - 10 Each order came with five thin pieces of perfectly toasted, herb focaccia that came with three dips: whipped ricotta, tomato fondue, and cultured butter. The focaccia itself was soft, with a nice chew, and well-seasoned. But this review is about the dips. I tried the whipped ricotta first, and it was light, creamy, and savory, and paired wonderfully with the bread, just as expected. I wasn't expecting much from the tomato fondue, but the depth of the flavors blew me away. It was rich and homey, almost like a grandmother's warm hug. This ended up being our favorite. The cultured butter was our least favorite, but it was still great. It was creamy and nicely salted, but the most ordinary one out of the three. We were quite impressed just from the focaccia. MUSHROOM RAVIOLI - 19 Each order came with three large mushroom ravioli, topped with some crispy mushrooms, fresh herbs, and parmesan, and in some porcini mushroom broth. The ravioli was filled with a very mushroom-forward ricotta (?) filling that was a bit thin and flowed everywhere on my plate. For a ravioli, I prefer something slightly thicker so the filling doesn't get everywhere when I cut it up to eat. The flavors were good, but compared to everything else we ordered, this one wasn't as impressive. SMOKED GOUDA MAC - 12 The cavatappi (corkscrew-shaped pasta) was mixed generously with a thick, smoked gouda sauce and topped with a generous amount of breadcrumbs and freshly-grated parmesan cheese. It was rich, creamy, and smoky. Each bite left me wanting more and more, and we also enjoyed it with some of the leftover porcini mushroom broth from the mushroom ravioli. PAN ROASTED CHILEAN SEA BASS - 47 The sea bass sat on top of a neat pile of sautéed spinach mixed with some aromatics with diced tomatoes on top. It was surrounded by two different sauces, with the carrot ginger puree sitting on one half and the lemon beurre blanc on the other. The sea bass was tender and soft, not much seasoning on its own but meant to be eaten with the garlicky, crunchy vegetables and the sauces. And both sauces were so tasty! The carrot ginger puree was a mix of sweet and savory, and the lemon beurre blanc was creamy and citrusy. I didn't have a favorite because I enjoyed both! This was on the pricier side, but a phenomenal option. 7 OZ GLAZED DUCK BREAST - 38 The duck breast was glazed with an orange chipotle sauce, cut into nine pieces to be enjoyed with the blackberries and orange pieces on the side. The fruits were mixed with a cheesy flavor so it was a mix of sweet, tart, and savory, which was unique. However, the duck (which we requested medium-rare) was more like a medium-well. It was chewy and not tender, which was disappointing. For the side, our server recommended the Colcannon (Irish-style mashed potatoes mixed with cabbage and green onions), a phenomenal choice! The potatoes were whipped and well-seasoned and aromatic with some crunchy texture, and we enjoyed it so much. Our only qualm besides minor food critiques (their seafood options seem to be better) is that the food took awhile to be prepared and served. Besides that, I had a lovely time with my friends, and I would take people out of town here!

Small Plates! Focaccia, Meatballs, Calamari

Everyone has to experience this amazing restaurant tucked away inside Open Road Distilling Co! Once you enter the unassuming double doors and locate the Speakeasy themed space you are transported to a dining experience you will remember forever and few can compare. Our server Alex was the epitome of what everyone in the hospitality service should aspire to be. Our family was celebrating the marriage of our son and his lovely new wife. From start to finish we felt as if we were the only people in the restaurant. The Small Plates started our dinner out perfectly and promised more amazingness to come! Our cocktails were all expertly crafted and the perfect compliment to the menu. Entrees included the Bucatini, the Cioppino, the Heirloom Wagyu Burger, the Short Rib and the Chicken. Superb execution and presentation! Complimentary Champagne and Sorbet rounded out our evening. Memories made of a most special day! You will NOT be disappointed! Special Occasion, Date Night or just because you must visit Heirloom!

Ragz and I did date night here this week. The place has been on my to do list for a bit now and I'm glad we could go. They call themselves a modern speakeasy fine dining establishment. It's hidden kinda behind the bar at Open road distillery but not very hard to find. The ambience of the place reads fancy and expensive. I really loved their bar - beautifully build with clean lines and very nicely lit. The rest of their decor is a little confusing to me - the green upholstery seemed like the wrong color of jewel themed green they seemed to be going for. Our booth, while very comfortable, had an odd table. There were old marks and indents in the table ( and all other tables) which made it feel like it didn't belong in the place. Lighting was great, no complaints. Service - Alex was nice, but the first half of service was slow honestly. Might have been amplified by the fact that we were both starving, haha. Her wine recommendation was on point though, so I gotta give her that. The lady at the table next to us continued to get animated by the minute as she drank more, which was interesting to witness. Anyway, on to food - it was a solid 4 star meal. We started where the focaccia ( the tomato confit was to die for). I liked it overall, but the fat content in the bread was really a bit much (this is coming from me, a butter junkie). The beet and burrata salad was amazing - perfect balance of flavors and fhe cheese was just the best texture. I think the croutons were confusing though, very large and unwieldy to eat. Ragz had the wagyu burger. He enjoyed it but felt the patty didn't read melt in your mouth wagyu. The bun was delicious! The layered potatoes that came as an accompaniment were honestly very disappointing. Bland and oily even though I could see these were painstaking to make. Over salted on the outside and completely bland inside. I had the mushroom ravioli. It delivered and then some! The mushroom jus was just so full of flavor and the pasta itself was beautiful delicate and fresh. I'd have this again any day. We shared the apple tarte tatin to complete our night. Pretty well made and a good size portion. I think the caramel was a bit too sweet for me, but it was a solid dessert regardless. Glad we were able to come here and I think it's a great addition to the fledgling modern fine dining scene in this area.

Heirloom has nice atmosphere and good food. Located inside of Open Road (another good restaurant/bar) at the Reston Town Center, Heirloom is a fun speakeasy like restaurant that is great for a date night or even getting dinner with family.

This was the most delicious healthy food I've ever had! I always get it to go so I can't say much about the service or ambiance other than the fact that they are always kind and never get an order wrong. I ordered a lot the first time because I wanted to have a good idea of what the quality was with True Food Kitchen. I ordered their guacamole with flatbread which was perfectly tangy and fresh and has 6g of protein and only 330 calories! Even if I ate the whole thing by myself I wouldn't feel guilty. I would say that the flatbread is a bit bland but other than that it's a pretty good starter especially for those macros. I give it a 3.5/5 Next I had the Edamame Dumplings which has white truffle oil, dashi, thai basil, sesame seeds, has 12g of protein and is only 270 calories!! This one was bursting with flavor in every bite, from the mouth watering truffle flavor in the sauce to the dumplings which tasted as indulgent as mashed potatoes, this was probably one of my favorites at True food Kitchen. I would rate it a 5/5 for sure! For sides I had the cheesy mashed potatoes which has 5g of protein and only 200 cals. I would say these are decent but not my favorite as it had a flavor I didn't quite like, but still is a good option for those not as picky as me. I would rate it a 2.5/5 Next I had the kale salad, and OMG it was amazing! I usually hate kale but True Food Kitchen's kale salad is so good that I actually would eat this every day! It has Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs and a perfectly blended lemon based dressing which is so good I scrape the bowl clean. It's also only got 120 calories and 3g of protein for the huge portion, so it's super healthy for you, and filling. I rate this a 5/5 Don't forget to get the Kale aid as a drink as well, which has organic kale, ginger, organic apple, celery, cucumber, and lemon and is only 100 calories. It's very refreshing and the flavor is so good you don't taste the greens. It's a 5/5 for sure! Lastly and one of my all time favorites here is the Turkey Burger which has Diestel Farms turkey, smoked gouda, avocado, tomato, butter lettuce, jalapeño remoulade, and their TFK house special sauce. The turkey by itself is delicious and such a huge portion! It's perfectly spiced and doesn't need anything else, though the other ingredients are fresh (I love that they have butter lettuce so it's a nice texture, plus it's tasty), their tomatoes are always red and top notch. But omg we need to talk about their sauces! The house sauce is delicious! It's unique to their store, but kind of like a mayo ketchup blend but more sophisticated. The jalapeño remoulade is tangy and addicting but not spicy despite the name. I love that they have two unique sauces on one burger! To top it off the whole thing has only 600 calories and a whopping 43g of protein! Talk about nutrition goals! It's definitely a 5/5 for me! TLDR: True Food Kitchen is truly healthy food that will leave your mouth watering! Every bite is a joy, and still keeps you on track with your healthy goals. The prices aren't bad, but definitely more than fast food for sure. The service is always great and this is one of my new favorite places to eat! Definitely recommend!

I ordered the salmon sandwich, which consists of: "Choice of your chimney bread, spread with dill cream cheese, filled with smoked Atlantic salmon, spring mix, cucumber, and red onion." The bread choices are everything bagel, jalapeno, and cheesy. I chose the everything bagel and asked for no onion.
