Stopped in here after hiking at Seneca Regional Park with our dog, Onyx, and honestly we were only supposed to grab a quick drink. Ended up staying for almost three hours. Started with an espresso martini, a smoked Old Fashioned, and the fritto misto to share. Everything was really good. Then we split the lamb burger and the shrimp risotto for lunch. Both were excellent, although I think the risotto edged out the burger. Our server Mike made the whole experience. Before he even brought us water, he showed up with a bowl for Onyx. Come on, that's an instant five stars in my book. We ended up talking wine with him for a good part of the afternoon. He had us sample a few different pours before we landed on a Nebbiolo we loved. Later, after another conversation about wine, he brought over a taste of a white we'd never even heard of because he thought we'd enjoy trying it. It never felt like an upsell. It just felt like talking with someone who genuinely enjoys wine and likes sharing it with people. Relaxing patio, great food, excellent cocktails, and genuinely memorable service. For a saturday lunch, the lunch rush was no joke. We got reservation for 1pm and were seated quickly. Restaurant has a rustic charm, a relatively open bar and kitchen. If you ordered their bread basket, bread came out right away, though maybe the butter serving could've been more. It took some time for our actual orders to come through, but considering that we went during the lunch rush, understandable Rigatoni Bolognese - Good, sauce and beef bits were good, with a tang of saltiness! Noodles quite soft, slightly to the point of soggy, but still had a good texture. We went during lunch/brunch and ordered a cinnamon roll and the loaded labneh dip to start. They were both amazing, and the cinnamon roll was to die for! Their bread in the loaded labneh was freshly baked and steaming. To eat with ordered the gemelli ala vodka, the rigatoni bolognese, and the grilled chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious! Local Provisions is such a great addition to Cascades Plaza. This modern and upscale restaurant features delicious pastas and fresh entrees. It has become my boyfriend and my go-to spot since the menu changes often, so there are always new items to try. My favorite is their signature Bolognese pasta, which thankfully stays on the menu year-round. The food always tastes fresh and made to order. As someone who lives for pasta, I can say their noodles are perfectly al dente, never overly sauced, and always full of flavor. The service is consistently pleasant. The Brussels sprouts immediately tasted frozen or maybe they were boiled. The texture was on the mushy side. The accompaniments made it taste bareable. We went for brunch after hearing only good things about this place. They do accommodate kids and have high chairs- a plus for us! The ambiance is nice, very cozy but roomy. The calamari is not chewy and the aioli is so unique and pairs perfectly. The Yellowtail is a bit pricey for the amount of pieces you get, but it's quite refreshing with the fresh cucumber slices. For the entrees we ordered the lamb burger and the French Omlette. Both dishes were so balanced and delicious we cleaned our plates. The Lamb Burger wasn't your average Lamb patty. It was a nice size, flavorful and juicy. The French Omlette was light and fluffy and it paired great with the fresh lump crab meat! As a Marylander, this is the freshest crab meat I've had in VA. We tried a few of their drinks and all were exceptional. First, the steak that I ordered was so gristly and terrible I couldn't even cut through it with the big sharp knife they give you. The potato wedges were so dried out and overcooked they just seemed like a leathery flavorless dust. And has the bread always been cold and tough? Either way, it was, and it wasn't appetizing. The food took a very long time to arrive. 20 minutes after we ordered the server came back to clarify one of the orders. After that, it took even longer for the food to arrive that's when we requested for bread since we saw it at another table but was never told that it was $6 extra. After the food came, we asked for extra napkins and got what looked like the Scott brown scratchy bathroom multi-fold paper towels. We started with their homemade bread and butter with yellowtail crudo. Crudo was fresh and was a perfect blend of citrus with pine nuts. Our meals were the brick cooked chicken and the rigatoni. Rigatoni was perfect Al dente and the chicken was absolutely tasty! I'd say the chicken is a must have! The chicken is almost tagine-like without being a tagine. My fiancée and I really like this place. We've been here twice now and enjoy the lamb burger the most. It somehow got better the second time. It had a nice smoky flavor but also remained juicy at the same time. The focaccia bread it is put on is soft and freshly made. In fact, all bread and pasta here is made fresh and in house. I think even the butter is made fresh. The one thing I wish they'd do is warm up the bread before bringing it to you. My fiancée liked her pasta dish on our most recent trip. I believe it was the rigatoni Alla vodka and she added a piece of chicken to it. I really enjoyed it. It had lots of flavor compared to the ragu we had on the first visit. The service here is typically fast and friendly. The wait staff usually stop by a few times throughout the time we're there. They are good about requests and questions on the menu. TL;DR: food was not good Stumbled on this place on Yelp/Google as we were looking for somewhere to eat on our way home. We came at an off time between lunch and dinner, so it was easy to grab a table. Service was average. Personal observation/opinion: the interior kind felt like their decor was unfinished. It just seemed like they popped up the restaurant that day and were waiting for the rest of their materials to arrive. FOOD: ~Gemelli ala vodka (3.5/5) with Chicken (2/5): The pasta was decent. I liked the texture of the pasta, the flavor of the sauce was okay. The chicken was awful. It came sliced on top of the pasta, but they cut it in a way where when you bit into it, it would rip in a weird direction. On top of that, it was SO dry. ~Truffle burger (2/5): So disappointed. I feel like the truffle flavor was overpowered by the fontina in the spread, so it was hard to taste it. The brioche bun was too thick AND dry. I got this with chips (2/5). The server stated that they had sweet potato chips, but when the food came out, there were like 2 sweet potato chips and the rest were (I think) regular chips. The chips were not crispy and felt stale. I literally could not bite into some of them without trying to rip it like jerky. The menu isn't huge but I knew that before arriving, As I'm not a big pasta fan, I ordered the Lo-Pro Lamb burger which I read about prior to arriving. The burger was excellent, very tasty & more than filling. The side of order of fries was just as I liked....big & fat.
