Came for the $7 special gyros on Wednesdays. It was a solid gyro, plenty of meat packed in there. Also got the Niko's Fries which had meat and sauce on the fries.

Gyro, Fries, Potato and Avgolemono (lemon chicken soup)

Stumbled upon this gyro spot that had a lot of classic Greek food. My girlfriend had a sore throat so we got the lemon chicken soup which was light, citrus and very yummy. The gyro was massive and packed full of meat and also very good. Paired with their fries and potatoes (which were heavily seasoned and absolutely amazing) made for a super filling and tasty quick dinner. One of my new favorite spots for gyros in the DMV! Tried many places and you can not beat the gyros here. Quick, tasty and very fresh. Additionally the place is always clean and comfortable.

Went here not knowing this Greek Restaurant had changed hands so was a bit surprised to find the Big Greek Cafe. Basically looks the same inside, very clean and decent amount of tables and also has about six outside. The service was great, very friendly. We ordered a chicken platter and some hummus and a side greek salad. We wanted just chicken skewers so actually ordered the wrong thing and they were more than accommodating in bringing us the additional chicken without charge even though I offered to pay due to the fact that it was probably my fault in how I ordered it. It was very much appreciated. The food was excellent, my only comment would be the jasmine rice was very plain. Overall it was a very good experience and would recommend giving it a try.

Fish sandwich - comes with fries but $2 extra for ""Greek" fries.

BLUF: After all these years and several locations later, Big Greek Cafe still delivers good food at a decent value. The service at the Sterling location on the day I visited was excellent. Friendly, patient, helpful, and polite. The feel of the location itself is your typical fast-food joint. Get in. Get out. Seemed clean enough. Not very cozy as in a great place to hang out. Not sure how it is during peak hours but the parking lot might get a bit crowded. The street for sure is busy & can cause cars to back up into the parking lot. The food, while not as awesome as I remembered it 5 years ago in MD, is still tasty. Today's visit, the meat in gyros was a bit dry & the gyros & the side of fries I paid full price for were rather skimpy in serving, given that the gyros used to be served with fries included in the price of the gyro. Still, the fries & the gyros still taste good. Not as good a value as in days of old...even on $7 gyro Wednesdays (which used to be $5 gyro Wednesdays). The fried fish sandwich was a good deal in these horrible economic times because it comes with a good-sized filet and fries. Although, $2 extra for Greek fries that only had a tablespoon of garlic, dry herbs, and feta crumbles tossed on top rolling off the fries then pooling at the bottom of the container. The garlic, herbs, & feta are supposed to stick to piping hot fries steaming with the awesome garlicky oil. What I received was really underwhelming and didn't even come close to the Greek fries I remember. So, I'll preface this review conclusion with this: Big Greek Cafe was one of my absolute favorite local joints... the food made me drool just thinking about it. The food was always plentiful in servings, hot, fresh, aromatic, wonderfully delicious, and everything on the menu was such a good value, you'd end up buying a ton of food. Was this trip worth the drive? Glad the curiosity about whether this VA location equaled the MD experiences was satisfied. Probably no longer high on my list to go out of my way to drive 30 minutes to get what used to be my fav sandwich. It seems a little too fast-foodsy, mass-produced now than the original delectable hole-in-the-wall local joint. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely pick up something because it's still tasty...just not as fantastic as I remember.

Gotta give this place another shout out! $7 Wednesday gyro deal is great and they don't skimp on the portion size. Staff is always so friendly. We dined in and staff comes by to make sure we have everything we need.

If you are craving gyros, grape leaves, and other Greek food, omg. This place? The portions? It's a gem. I missed when places would be this generous with portions AND have delicious food so it makes it all worth it! I've so far tried the signature Gyro Pita and a Gyro bowl. I think I prefer the pita because it has more tzatziki sauce, a banana pepper, and a feta cube whereas the bowl didn't have as much flavor-wise (still good though!). I really loved the grape leaves too because they were fresh and warm! The restaurant has plenty of parking in front with a shared lot of other businesses like Yamachen's Sushi and TeaDM. They also have an app you can order on for takeout which also makes it pretty convenient if you are on a time crunch! So far both of my takeout orders have been ready on time too. :)

I had my eye on this restaurant before they became "The Big Greek Cafe". Previously, they were all about Souvlaki bowls. With a change in name and a larger menu, I wanted to give it a try. As for ambiance, it's basically a take out place that has a few tables for those who want to dine in. We were here on a Sunday around 4:30. At that time, the place wasn't busy at all. It's set up so you have to order at the register. The young woman who rang us up was nice but she didn't have a good command of English. We told her clearly that we were ordering for two people and also clearly said we were ordering two of the same meal. We paid for our (what we thought would be) two meals plus a bottle of Fanta that we planned to share. Then, we chose a table and waited for our food. When the food came out, there was only one order that was brought to the table. I pointed out that we ordered 2 of the same meal. She said "I only charged you for one." Well...the bright side (yes, there was a bright side) was that we split the food and found it was just right for two. We ended up sharing a cup of avgolemono soup which, surprisingly, wasn't too bad. One could taste the lemon in it. The piece of spanakopita was quite big so we cut it in half. It was okay. We did appreciate that it wasn't overloaded with feta. For the two sides that came with it, we chose roasted Greek potatoes plus string beans with tomato sauce. A few slices of warmed pita bread came with it. The potatoes were okay and the green beans had nice flavoring. While we were eating, the young woman approached our table to apologize about messing up our order. She offered to get us a free side. I asked if we could get baklava and she said "yes". We took the baklava home and later had it with some tea. Again, it was okay, but we've had better. I admit to being picky about baklava as I grew up eating it freshly made from scratch by my great aunt and grandmother. So...if you like Greek food and come here with tempered expectations, you will do fine. However, if you come here expecting food as good as My Mom Eugenia's, you will be disappointed. Just remember it's cheaper to eat here. If the owner and/or a manager sees this, I would suggest training those who work at the register to repeat back the order to the customer to make sure it's correct.

Gyro

We've visited The Big Greek Cafe many times and the dishes are consistently made very flavorful. We've tried the gyro, chicken, pork chops, and Greek Pasticio. Service is very friendly and professional!

I don't usually write reviews about restaurants but this place is exceptional!…read moreI've been asking my husband to eat here but he kept saying the menu is hard to figure out and it doesn't seem to be the kind of Italian restaurant he would like, too modern and fusion I guess. Well, we finally ate dinner there this evening and it was wonderful! My husband had the fusilloni and he loved it. You can tell how authentic the ingredients are, just so fresh and thoughtfully prepared so the ingredients all go together. If you're used to eating at Olive Garden you won't appreciate this food. I had the bruschetta and it was superb with the whipped ricotta and marinated cherry tomatoes. I also had the fagioli soup which was super flavorful! The service was very attentive without getting in the way of our conversation. Oh and the latte was the best I've ever had!

Most of score here goes towards how poor the value you get for your money. The worse offender of the night was the beet salad with chicken. $22 for a ton of romaine and flecks of beets and chicken. I know inflation is rampant but this was exceptionally bad use of $22. The second worst offender was a side of sauce we ordered for one of the dishes. We didn't know ahead of time was the cost would be and the server never told us, perhaps i should have asked but i thought it would be reasonable. it looked like about 1 oz of sauce and they charge $5, that was nearly half of the price of the dish we got the side of sauce for. the other dishes were just ok and for the price, it was fine, nothing special, nothing to rave over and that's fine but certainly not 5 star worthy as other reviews had, but that's just my opinion and others are certainly entitled to theirs. Finally a couple other negatives. The wine i ordered was a on the warmer side than i would have liked, not undrinkable, but it did not help the overall experience. Also while our server was very nice, she also was not very attentive as she would disappear for long stretches and my water glass was empty for long periods of time. I had to flag down a different waiter to get my glass refilled. For a place that maybe had 10-12 tables at most (which were not all filled) and 3 waiters, i would not have guessed the waiters to be over allocated to their tables. This was our most expensive meal out in awhile and it was also the most disappointing one. Edit: I took off the snarky comment in the caption as it was not nice, and FWIW the picture was not in response to the owner reaching out. I still stand by it was a poor value

We were in the comfort good mode. So my fiancee had the meat loaf and I had the signature fried chicken. Now I just got over COVID so I was not so sure how my taste buds would react. We started with their specialty - cornbread. Wowser! It was not just cornbread- it was decadent dessert! The fried chicken was perfect. The collared greens exceptional. And the mashed potatoes were good (a little salty to me). The meat loaf was amazing. That will be what I get next time. The portions were such that we had leftovers to take home. Our waiter - Rayvon - talked us into peach cobbler to go for dessert. We had that the next night over coffee. We're gonna get that to go again. Total cost was around $70 which included a glass of wine. Totally fair. That is about what we have paid for two dinner meals and drinks at the restaurants in the GF Plaza. Rayvon was a cool conversationalist. Made us feel at home - added a a few humorous quips too. He invited us back. We accept!

This experience, though, was very different. From the very moment I stepped in this time, I noticed a significant change in the vibe. Although the food was nice, the atmosphere was very different. The employees seemed indifferent, disinterested and honestly unfriendly - which was completely different than my previous experience. I asked one of the waiters if there had been a change in ownership - because it seemed very noticeable in negative way - and they said there was a change in management and new staff. I don't know who all the new folks are but this is not the same place I once loved. Please revert back. I remember when I first came here, and all I wanted to do was bring close friends here to share the awesome food and service; now, I don't even know if I'll be back. A big part of a good restaurant is the ambience and a big part of the ambience is the people/employees who bring their positive personality to the place. This time there was no personality. The place felt lackluster. I am saddened but the downturn.
