Good food and our waiter, Chris, was great! Quiet enough to talk to each other over brunch.

Our first time eating here. Food was good and Kevin was great! Very attentive without hovering.

I start off by saying that the ingredients here are of above average to superior quality. Likewise the service is lovely and attentive, and organizationally, it seems not there are lots of people who handle specific tasks as well as those who round robin. From the perspective of a very discerning client as I dine out often, I appreciate little things like that. Likewise the ambiance and seating are all decent; with the only thing being that the interior is sometimes too cold, though that is likely not a problem during the summer months in which case they have a lovely outside seating area which has music low enough to carry a conversation; and which is half-closed, thus providing some privacy from passers-by. Toward the latter end I would also point out that it is on the less traversed side of RTC, providing some level of respite for weary or low-key patrons. Unfortunately, the reason for my less than favorable score is because of three things: the food; the price; and the value. Whereas the quality of ingredients is not in question, the quality of execution and, in some cases, concepts, is highly suspect. While several items can be quite well balanced in terms of portion, flavor, and cohesion, others miss entirely. Likewise, many items--as I anticipated--suffer from a lack of flavor and seasoning. Given the premise of the restaurant being of superior quality and sourcing, as well as healthy, I knew what I was getting into--or supposed to have been getting into. But the health value of the food here is not practical from all athletes' perspectives. I suppose I would say here that the ambition of the restaurant overshadows It's ability to deliver, and its vision is too broad; or at the least unsupported by its conclusion. I further have to offer quarrel with the fact that several items are literally an item--in the singular. Are you ordering the tuna tostada? Well, it is, literally, a single tostada. Imprecise advertising? Not necessarily. Fraudulent? Definitely not. Common to the standards of diners and colloquial understanding? Nay. And I would be remiss to not point out that several of these items are advertised as a Happy Hour, as if enticement to visit is heightened based off such. But is it enticement, or merely inducement? The latter. But that is fine; just pointing this out for clarity. What is not fine, however, is that I noticed a lower level of attention to detail and quality in the happy hour items as opposed to the regularly priced / regular menu items. While that may be a coincidence, were such a trend to only appear in one or two items, it occurred nigh universally. To be fair, perhaps the items on the happy hour are either less popular or [insert alternative explanation as you desire here]. Which brings me lastly, friends, to the price point and value. I cannot say I would be less satisfied were I to visit Taco bell, Wendy's, or Subway; if we want to be health conscious. If we're comparing relative satisfaction within the same area, I am at a loss as to why one would not simply go to Fogo de Chao or Mason's, both also located at Reston Town Center. If comparing like product, eg health-conscious and or source-premium items, I would tender superior reference to Hot Spot or Kare Bar, both of Chantilly. As this restaurant is very popular, locally and nationally, I hope a positive change may result in the future. As of now, I cannot, under any circumstances, tender favorable comment; nor revisit, outside of particular, unique, or compelling circumstances. read more

I was in the mood for a healthier meal via DoorDash and stumbled upon a local True Food Kitchen in my neighborhood and decided to give it a shot. First of all the menu offers such a wide variety of healthy options and it can literally satisfy any craving because of lots of healthier spins on traditional comfort foods. I went with the Charred Cauliflower for a starter and a Mediterranean inspired salad which I added salmon for a protein and both were absolutely delicious! The salad ingredients were perfectly balanced and the dressing added just the right sprinkling of magic to tie it all together. Total fan! My friends have been raving about True Food Kitchen for months now, and I can see why! The food is delicious AND healthy. I can enjoy a meal packed with flavor without feeling like a bloated log afterwards. The brussel sprouts were cooked in what seemed like a sweet chili sauce. 10/10. I also had the cauliflower pizza, and that was amazing! I finished the entire thing because it was just that good. But the amazing part is that I didn't feel uncomfortably stuffed afterwards. Such a cool place in the Reston Town Center complex. The food is great! We had a new server...she did fairly well. She answered my questions. They have cocktails, but even a few mocktails. I highly recommend the Blueberry 75. It was a nonalcoholic sparkling with blueberries floating to the top! The Hatch Chili Turkey burger was cooked perfectly. It have avocado, Bibb lettuce, and a tasty sauce. It came with white and purple fingerling potatoes...yummy yummy. The brussel sprouts appetizer and charred cauliflower appetizers helped me get my veggies in for the day. The brussel sprouts have peppers and mushrooms with it, which gave a little spice kick to the app. And I ended the evening with their squash pie - similar to a sweet potato pie but not as sweet for the flavor profile. They also had a flourless chocolate cake with vegan vanilla ice cream and chocolate nibs; it was delicious. This is very clearly a super hipster cafe. I adore it so much, in part because of it. I adore light bulb shaped light fixtures, and am a big fan of murals. There are pictures attached- my favorite is the avocado mural. There's avocado toast on the menu! Sold. The pink lemonade tasted like summer- dragonfruit made it more *magenta* than *pink*, but that's just pure pedantry and either way we loved it so much that I got a to go cup to take the rest of what I had home. The mac n cheese was amazing, the parmesan making it rich, thick, and deliciously cheesy. The burger I got (which I can't remember the name of, but can remember it was the bottom left burger with mushrooms) was also rad as hell. The mustard I asked for paired really nicely with it. Our server was Brianna, and she was absolutely just the sweetest. When she found out I had never been (was there with a partner) was ready to answer any questions I might have about the menu, and made sure to prompt me with asking if there were any questions. Got me mustard immediately when I asked, though she was apologetic about it not being yellow. (Side note, their stone ground nonsense? Fantastic, super duper good.) Was quick, friendly, laughed when I excitedly responded with a mouthful of food to tell her how amazing the food was. Sorry, miss, I was definitely raised in a barn. Obviously, loved this place. From the decor to the food and drinks, you can't go wrong with this place. I first discovered this establishment in Veg a few years ago and have been coming to Reston location since. My favorite app is the edamame dumplings, I highly recommend it. The margarita pizza is spot on, get it with extra basil and well done. The vegan burger is great as well as the lasagna. I reserve TFK for every-once-in-a-while indulgences and treats due to the priciness of this place. This evening, party of 2, everything I love about the TFK experience was realized EXCEPT my disappointment with the seasonal Grilled Grass-fed Steak entree I ordered. This steak entree, one of the priciest items on the menu, did not live up to my (high) expectations of TFK's other steak entrees I've had in the past. :( Bottom line, the steak was nbd. Ho hum. No marinade or flavor to it. Basically just a grilled steak though it was grilled medium rare to my liking. I did like the taste and texture of the black rice but the grilled veggies that accompanied the steak were ho-hum as well. While the entree came out hot, some of the veggies were room temp. Sadly, I do not recommend this dish. Hence, for this visit at least, a ONE STAR DING. I will say the other dishes we ordered were delicious. I had a taste of my friend's SPICY PANANG CURRY BOWL and it was delicious - definitely would order this next time. The curry sauce was thick, flavorful and creamy and the veg medley and brown rice were bright, fresh and a great flavor mix. We ordered 2 starters - the hummus and the roasted cauliflower. Both were delicious though I liked the cauliflower more than the hummus. FYI, we requested GLUTEN FREE PITA to go with the hummus, not knowing if they could accommodate the request - but they did! Our server that night was excellent and service was as I've always experienced spot on! I absolutely love the fact that the staff doesn't rush your meal nor rush you out the door - we arrived around 730PM (on a Wed night) and they allowed us to linger after they closed their doors at 9PM. Nice touch. I love love LOVE this TKF locations's decor and ambience. So open, bright, clean, comfortable. I love the open kitchen concept and the bar area is looooong and inviting. Table seating is nicely and generously spaced out so you don't feel like you're on top of the party next to you, overhearing each others' conversation (one of my pet peeves!). True Food - I'll continue to remain true to you but have to let you and everyone know when a dish isn't up to the standards I hold for you (and you wouldn't want it any other way wink). The Grilled Grass-fed Steak was underwhelming to say the least. (Hint hint: TFK PLEASE BRING BACK THE GRILLED KOREAN STEAK AND LEAVE IT ON THE MENU AS A TRIED AND TRUE CLASSIC!!!! My first time here and I must say I absolutely loved it. From the atmosphere to the staff, everything was a win for me. I sat outside and a woman on the street stopped and asked what I ordered because it looked so delicious & it was! I got the Grass-fed Burger with a 50/50 mix of kale salad and sweet potato hash (the has was my favorite but the kale salad was nicely done also). I also ordered a green juice which was fresh and had lots of awesome ginger to give it a spicy kick. My very sweet server brought my dessert out with a candle in it and made me feel very special. I hope they don't take the strawberry cake off the menu because it was SO good, moist and not too sweet. I will definitely return again & look for these in California! I am a now a fan. My work colleague talked about True highly and said that she needed to take me to this restaurant. True has such great food. I had the Lasagna Bolognese and I did not feel stuffed. My colleagues had the Ancient Grain Bowl and the Spicy Panang Curry Bowl. It was great to see that some of the menu items were seasonal. I found room for desert, the Blueberry Crumble Sundae. One of my colleagues got the Flourless Chocolate Cake. The wait staff was attentive and the food came out quickly. The decor was hip but calming. I highly recommend True. I am staying at the Hyatt across the street, and was looking for something other than junk food for dinner. A quick run through of the online menu, and this place sounded good. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. When I walked in, I was surprised to find nobody at the hostess stand. It's a Sunday night, shortly before 7pm, and they didn't seem overly busy. There were plenty of open tables. After waiting for a few minutes, the hostess came back around and showed me to my seat. It was kind of downhill from there. After sitting down, she took away the extra place settings and I started to glance at the menu again. I was reasonably sure I knew what I wanted (original chicken sandwich), but I still perused it just incase. After 5 minutes or so, I closed the menu and waited, intermittently looking between my phone and the preseason football game on the tv in the center of the restaurant. And so I waited. And waited. After the better part of 10 minutes, the hostess walked back past me and asked if I'd been helped yet. I told her no. Another three to four minutes passed, and my waitress came by. She asked if I wanted anything to drink, and I said I was ready to order. So I asked for the sandwich, a side salad, and water. It all seemed easy enough. The waitress (who was quite nice) headed off to deliver the order, and I was back into my phone and/or the football game. Another 5-10 minutes passed, and the hostess came by again. She asked if I wanted any water. Finally! Yes, please. I was brought a glass of water, which I thought I drank somewhat slowly, but before I knew it, the glass was empty, and nobody was in sight to ask if I wanted a refill. Then the real waiting began. It took about 30 minutes before the waitress came back and apologized for the inconvenience. She said she would go check on my burger (I ordered chicken), and get me another glass of water. Roughly 10 minutes after that, I saw her returning with a plate in one hand and a glass of water in the other. As she handed the food to me, she apologized again and said they had lost my ticket. I have no idea how that happens, or where they apparently found it in order to get my order correct (?). It all just seemed so odd. At this point, I was rather hungry and tore through the salad. It was quite good. The chicken sandwich was underwhelming. The two pieces on chicken in it were small, and the temperature wasn't very warm, suggesting that it had been prepared some time ago and ... just not brought to me? Nevertheless, I was still hungry and ate it in short order. I emptied the glass of water, and went back to waiting. About 3-4 minutes later the waitress returned, apologized for the wait, and offered a free dessert. I didn't want any dessert though, I just wanted to pay and get back to the Hyatt. In lieu of the dessert, they took 10% off my bill. I had not commented or complained the whole time, so I suppose it was nice that they voluntarily offered a discount. I still tipped 15%, but I'm not sure why. That said though, the entire ordeal felt like such a disorganized mess. Even the most basic thing of bringing a glass of water to the table (or checking to see if I wanted more, since my glass was empty for so long) seemed like a Herculean effort. I can't imagine what happens in there on a night when they are fully busy. Although the staff I dealt with were all very pleasant and nice, I still felt like I was completely forgotten about, despite being right in the middle of the seating area. And based on that experience, I can't foresee myself coming back again. read more
