Today I had the Triple Decker Club sandwich. It came with cole slaw and fries. The club was served on sour dough toast. The sour dough was chewy otherwise the sandwich was just okay. I've been to this location several times today. I had the California omelette on my last visit. I had the Power omelette. Both are excellent. The prices are decent. The only thing I don't like is the music in the jukebox are too loud. Today's service is excellent and the food is truly outstanding. We are regular at this locations and everything tastes amazing. They are always adding new menu items. We tried the sampler this time and it was very good. The wings, fried shrimp and egg rolls were all very tasty. I tried the smash burger and it was very good but I do like the regular hickory bbq burger better. Food was good for breakfast. Came here on a Monday morning at 11am and was seated immediately for a table of 4. For it not being too busy, the server was a little slow to be honest, not sure if that was just me and my experience. Ambiance is great, jukebox diner to the full. So I'd say in summary that this place you come here for the experience more than throw down on the food compared to IHOP or Denny's. read more

I did not expect to leave 5 stars at this place but I had the chicken sandwich and it was the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Maybe that is because I love pickles and pickled things. My lover enjoyed her dish as well and we both found ourselves wanting to try other dishes, I have my eye on the chicken and waffles. The place had the look and smell of a diner. Anywho, we got dinner to go and the kids meals were Terribly portioned. The teriyaki salmon ($8.99) looked like they were pulld off another piece or they used one slice of salmon and cut it in half. It was super tiny. Kids meals are for ages 12 and younger but this looks like a toddler size !!! my husband was furious and swore we'll never eat there again. We felt very cheated. UPDATE: This is the second time this has happened. I contacted customer service both times and never heard back. During my recent visit, I walked in and identified myself and my service dog. The server brought over the manager, Liliana. Despite my clear explanation, she repeatedly referred to my dog as a pet, stated that pets were not allowed, and argued with me about whether my dog was "really" a service animal. Throughout the interaction, she implied that I was being dishonest and dismissed me. I was eventually allowed to enter the restaurant. Liliana then insisted that my service dog sit under the table. My dog needs to sit in my lap to do her job. I explained this several times. Liliana argued with me. This was not dramatic behavior -- it was demeaning. I used to love Silver Diner. But I can't go back. Will that manager be there? Will I have to justify my disability? Will I be judged and embarrassed in front of my friends and family? Being disabled is hard enough without having to fight just to be served at a restaurant. Because this is a repeat issue, I will not be returning. There are other restaurants in the area that are disability-friendly, and I will spend my money at those instead. I am writing because this needs to be addressed so it does not hurt others. read more

After a hard day attending a family funeral a friend took me to dinner last night about 6pm and we sat at the round table to the left as you walk in. I had my Service Dog under the table. We've been to the Reston location many times. Last night left a lot to be desired from the food to the service to the communication between the Server, who was brand new, and management. Since she had to go ask the manager for the answer to every question we asked; ie can my dining partner get toast instead of biscuits or were the ricotta lemon pancakes still available one would have thought the manager/trainer would have stayed with her. She took our order, missing small details like extra ice and lemon with my water which I could have overlooked had everything else gone well. My pancakes were so dry I couldn't eat them. She had to ask if I could get something to replace them with. My dining partners toast was also very dry, he had asked for extra butter but never got it. She wasn't sure what dressings they had for salads when I asked if they still had their citrus vinaigrette, she came back saying yes they had balsamic vinaigrette. By this point my dining partner had pretty much finished. He also asked for no onions on his potatoes but they came with them. A different waiter came to bring my salad after my dining partner went up to the front to ask for it to be made to go, I was tired and just wanted to leave at that point. I told him we had just asked for it to go. The waitress then came to see I didn't have my salad yet and said she would check on it. There was no communication between people working there. The tip of the iceberg was a manager never came to apologize, offer to comp us dessert, anything. I felt badly for the waitress who was brand new. As a person who worked in management for years it was unfair to her. That's why 2 stars. read more

Way overdue review that got pushed aside due to travel and holidays. My husband and I were visiting family over Thanksgiving and visited this location with our Mom. We were getting ready to order when we received a text regarding a refrigerator delivery that was supposed to arrive later that afternoon. Luckily it was close to the diner. First and foremost I want to applaud the staff (our table host Rubia) who graciously excused us as we apologetically left promising to return. We did return and asked for Rubia. My parents were regulars with their friends and when we visited we would frequent but at some point they stopped coming. We all felt that the food wasn't up to par and menu was stagnant at that time. Well we were pleasantly surprised with this recent visit and actually WOW'd with the menu. The farm to table concept (informed that they were procured locally) reminded us of CA where we live. Recently they came up with a scheme to offer two dinners plus an appetizer for $35.00. When you receive your final bill the description of the bill is so convoluted that only a mathematician can understand... since I like math, I discovered after arguing with the Manager of Silver Dinner in Reston, VA that was a catch to this madness... in the back of the advertisement written in very small letters (HARD TO READ) there was an exception to charge an additional $5 for EACH entry for two of their expensive foods. But this location is near the house... a neighbor indicated a updated menu do we decided to check things out Our server was delightful and she did keep checking in us! So 5 stars on that! The food and service is mediocre at best. Looks amazing, but the the flavor is just not there. I know they are trying to be MORE than just a "diner" but perhaps they need to try harder at this location since the service was severely lacking. We arrived so early and it wasn't busy at all so all of the staff were just super busy talking amongst themselves giggling and laughing so loudly speaking in Spanish and just being disruptive! It was SUPER annoying!!!! Will NEVER EVER want to come back to this location!!!! I have an extreme fondness for the diner aesthetic of the 50's. Give me shiny silver, curved edges, a vaguely Art Deco inspired interior. I want long counters with bar stool seating. Preferably some nice lighting and bright lights or dimmer lights with a dash of red and orange colors. This is exactly what Silver Diner offers in terms of aesthetics. As soon as I saw the exterior I knew at the *very least* I would enjoy the ambiance and I was right. The interior was exactly what I had hoped. Long counter, bar stool seating, big booths...it was great! I was meeting friends but I was the first to arrive. I thought perhaps they would make me wait but nope, the host seated me right away. A waitress came by and had no problem dropping off some menus as I waited for my friends. When they finally did arrive the staff never rushed us. I don't get to see these friends often so we had a lot to chat about. I think it helped that the diner was never packed or anything, but still, it was nice of them to give us space to catch up. We were having breakfast so I ordered the Baby Spinach, Feta & Cremini Mushroom omelet. The omelet was prepared nicely and everything was cooked just right. The flavor was good (not the best ever, but solid). I also asked for Rye Toast and I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised at the wonderful tangy flavor the toast had. Most rye toasts I get have a hint of that flavor, but this one had the flavor right out in front. It was an unexpected delight! Silver Diner was great and I really enjoyed my visit.
