I visited Founding Farmers on a Thursday evening and had a really good experience. Upon our arrival we were quickly seated by the host. Shortly after our seating, our waiter introduced himself. Throughout the evening, our waiter was very prompt and observant. I didn't have much of an appetite that evening, so I asked him for recommendations for something light. With that, he recommended the Spicy Ahi Tuna & Avocado Poke Salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The portion size of my dish was perfect given my appetite and the flavors were paired very well. I could have easily given this experience a 5-star review, however, something in my dish had my stomach in immediate discomfort, however, despite that stomach experience, I think I would still be willing to try the dish again hence the 4 star review. The only nice thing I can say about this place is how beautiful it is inside. And the location of the restaurant. Here come the cons- I asked the host if there was a GF menu, and he kinda froze and stuttered and didn't have a response until the manager jumped in and said "your waiter can identify these items to you when you get to your table" I sat at my table for about 10 months until the waitress finally acknowledged us. Took us another 10 to get water, and I honestly wonder when we would have gotten it if we didn't bring it up. There was a brunch buffet option instead of ordering off the regular menu. btw nothing is clear on the menu of any GF items. I told the waitress I would check out the buffet. Nothing appeared to be GF but I asked the waitress to show me which items. She pointed me to the buffet guy in charge, and he was confused of my "gluten" allergy. I was like uh ok. And he started walking towards .. somewhere... who knows. I guess he went to go ask someone. Next thing you know the manager shows up at my table. She informs me that there is a lot of GF options at the buffet and she said she would show me because she also is "celiac" and knows she can eat it too. However, I told her no it's actually ok, I think I rather order off the reg menu anyways. I asked if she would show me what I can order off the menu and she told me "your waitress can tell you" In my head I'm like .... Well if my waitress is already directing to me to someone else at the buffet then how would my own waitress know... and manager lady, if you're already at my table and are aware of these items why can't you just tell me right now. We found hair in chicken tenders entree!!! The manager refunded the meal and replaced with another entree of our choice. Fine -- that was an appropriate resolution. However, today I opened the Caesar salad that we ordered to go and found another strand of hair in that!!! Unfortunately, I cannot return that item for a refund/replacement. I will not be returning. We had a wonderful experience last night at Founding Farmers at Reston Station. We were greeted warmly when we arrived for our dinner reservation and were seated promptly. The dining room was eclectic, beautiful and comfortable, and the servers were attentive and friendly. Food was delicious. I ordered the Classic Chicken Milanese. The cucumber lemon vinaigrette gave the chicken cutlets amazing flavor. The arugula salad was a perfect accompaniment. I would absolutely recommend it. My wife ordered the Hot Honey Fried Chicken, and she said she enjoyed her meal as well. (The grits were not quite warm enough, though.) Shoutout to Gomez for their amazing service today!! Even on thanksgiving, they were smiling and super kind. Attentive service and quick to get out the separate courses for thanksgiving! Last year was a little slow but it looks like they made some changes. Food was delicious and I loved that we could still order a coffee and a cocktail off the regular menu. I got the turkey, while hubby got the fried chicken as our main courses. I was super full and they kindly got me boxes. I had the refreshing apple cider sorbet & hubby got apple pie. The spicy fried chicken is nice and crispy, I also recommend the sliced beef, and there is a good spread of "appetizers" including tuna wonton cups and (surprisingly) good guacamole. They seated us at a table that was too small, I have a tall son and boyfriend. Without hesitation they moved us to another table. The menu is not 500 pages like some restaurants. We started with Fried Green Tomatoes and Onion Rings... The FGT were so delicious! It came with Goat Cheese and Green Goddess, the best thing I've ever tasted! I will definitely be a frequent flyer for this reason alone. I had the Scallop Risotto which was amazing!!!!! My son ate his entire meal which is rare. My bf didn't know what to choose and ended up getting 2 meals and finishing both. He had the Lamb Chops... After trying a bite, my life was changed. It was so tender and delicious. Melted in your mouth. Our waiter Kevin was top notch. He was very attentive and even made sure to prepare a birthday treat for my mom. Which was a surprise! I asked to speak to a manager, which I like to do so they know when they are doing good, not just getting the complaints. Usually when I ask for a manager the waiter gets an attitude, but Kevin wasn't concerned in the least. The manager came over and looked nervous. I told him it was the best experience we've had in a while when dining out. My only complaint... This was the 2nd visit to this location, the last being my birthday in April 2022 and it was just as nice a visit. Once again, the service just entering the restaurant, is notable. The host/hostess were most welcoming and seated us right away. This was especially great, because I was super hungry! Our server Kevin was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes and the menu. His recommendations proved spot on. The fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and green goddess was perfectly crisp and fresh and a nice tangy treat. Coupled with the seven cheese 'Mac n cheese' which was seasoned and flavorful --perhaps a wee bit on the salty side, but definitely not a deal breaker. Coconut Old Fashioned - boozy but offered no complexity. Ahi Tuna bites - flavorful and delicious. Devilish eggs - I don't know who came up with this recipe but they should walk the plank. So all I wanted for Father's Day was a good, loaded, succulent dish of hot bread pudding. The best I've had is in the heart of DC, which I was not making the 100 minute drive for (I really would have but my kids wouldn't enjoy the car ride). All the places around us serve cold bread pudding. And for some reason, almost every restaurant in northern VA serves the same, or similar, white chocolate bread pudding. I wanted something big, buttery, and hot. Luckily, Founding Farmers offered something remotely different than what other restaurants did. Luckily, they have four seats at the bar my family could sit at (instead of waiting 90 mins). I enjoy Founding Farmers and their food is good. But I just wanted bread pudding. And theirs hit the spot. It was a decent portion too. Couldn't have used a scoop of ice cream a la mode? Of course but did I need it? No. Their croissant donuts were well balanced too. What shocked me the most was that my family and I were able to sit at the bar. The kids thought they were treated special and considered this experience as something as if they were eating at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. We won't eat here often (it's a 60 mins drive for us). But if we are in the area, and have the money, this would be a place we'd love to explore some more. But I encourage to call ahead to make reservations. read more

I stopped in by myself for a late lunch, so sat at the bar. The bartender, John H, was busy getting things "reset" between lunch and dinner, but was still attentive and helpful. He said the double smash cheeseburger was good and he was right. The burger patties were moist, not dry, the pickles which seemed house made were delicious and the lettuce was shredded, so it was a little easier to keep my burger in tact. I'm not a tartar sauce fan, so had them leave that off, but enjoyed the Louie sauce. I like a good onion ring and when I said that, he suggested I get them versus the fries. Underwhelmed is the word I would use to describe our meal at Founding Farmers today. We have heard amazing things about it (& will try a sit down meal there to compare), but the buffet was mediocre at best. The food was warm, but nothing was hot, fried chicken wasn't crispy, and that batter to shrimp ratio was wild - where's the shrimp! When you advertise carving stations I assume (on me) that it means people will be stationed there to carve the meat and not have it precut in warming trays. Giving credit where credit is due - the eggs Benedict (which you have to order with your server was hot and while not the best I've had - it was the best item I had).
