I took my boys here for breakfast last weekend. They're both autistic, so I always check to make sure entrees are made in a traditional way with no "surprises." My oldest just wanted regular pancakes with a few chocolate chips sprinkled in or on them, and they were able to accommodate that. (Tip: ask for this specifically bc what they know as "chocolate chip pancakes" on the menu means they'll be loaded inside and out, with chocolate syrup drizzle to boot!). My youngest wanted simple blueberry pancakes, and that didn't work out quite as well. The pancakes are made with what I suppose is puréed blueberry inside the batter, so they came out literally blue and had a sugary blue compote drizzled over it. He's a purist and just wanted regular batter pancakes with some blueberries inside. We ended up apologizing and sending them back. Service was really slow, and my youngest ended up taking his replacement pancakes home because everyone else was done eating by the time they came out. Coffee was good and frequently refilled, so that was a plus. read more

I've been going to Amphora, the original location in Vienna and the remaining one in Herndon since I was a kid. I love that I can take anyone here and there will be something they'll love in the inch-thick spiral bound menu. The servers quicky get to know us when we come back. Dennis, in particular, learns your drink orders and favorite entrees--sometimes after just one visit. After you get to know the regular menu, don't forget to try out the specials. It has been a minute since I ate at Amphoras, but I was happy to be able to stop in recently before a meeting and enjoy a good hot breakfast. Customer service was great. You are always greeted at the door. The interior has not changed much but it has always been a spacious and clean diner. Not to mention, the fresh baked goods at the front door as you walk in. I ordered a traditional 2 egg breakfast with bacon, home fries, and wheat toast. That hit the spot. The cranberry juice was a bit watered down and more of a pink color than cranberry. I would definitely visit again but order something different to drink next time. Overall, a great dining experience and I look forward to my next visit. read more

In my experience Amphora is very accommodating to allergies and/or preferences. In addition, no complaints about the portions! I requested to be seated in a different section. My meal was not great, practically raw runny eggs served instead over easy medium as requested. Waffle was over cooked severely it was literally hallow inside. Charging $25 on a breakfast that was hardly edible is unacceptable. We all work hard for our money and lots of other businesses look forward to earning my business. The hostess was also rude who originally seated me prompting me to request my final seating with the manager. I hope the owner sees my review and makes changes. It's has turned into a hit or miss experience this last year. Tried the place 5-6 times now, but my significant other has been going for years and is very disappointed how things are heading. Eggs are great...scrambled, however, (tighten your seatbelts...) I Haven't receive a medium sunny side over egg yet when ordered. Always comes one way, runny. 9-27-25 visit offered us again runny eggs when we tried for a nice medium request, flavorless French toast, although they were tender. So you think to yourself, "tenders good, what's wrong with that?" So, my good reader, here is why... no custard like consistency known for true French Toast. They were perfectly dry internally, but somehow, fluffy, without any nice "crustiness" anywhere on the outside. Very confusing. No cinnamon essence, no eggy essence to be found, just brown warm bread with less than an after thought of powdered sugar dusting. . Hamburger smelled and looked great. (Warning, windy road ahead). But alas, lower bun was soaked and the burger was not seasoned and tasted more of old cooking oil and something unidentifiable. The taste of beef, no mater how well we rolled it around on our eager taste buds, could be found. Example of texture over substance. Did I mention that the scrambled eggs were good? Moving on to the Blueberry pancakes. Were "ok" but this too just lacked any blueberry flavor. Not worth the calories, just like the French toast. (My French Grandmother is shaking her head). If I didn't know we ordered blueberry pancakes... I wouldn't have known. No nice pieces of blueberries to bite into these recent times. Still a jolting visual confusion when you cut into to the stack to see aqua blue internally. Never had this with any other blueberry pancake... so are they purposely adding food coloring?? Yikes! No thank you. My conclusion is, I'm unsure if they are cleaning the cook tops sufficiently and changing out the oils. On today's visit to the food roulette game, it ended with all persons in my party feeling unwell shortly after the meal and lingered in severity for 24-48 hours. Very disappointing since the atmosphere is very nice, the pastry case is alluring and the wait staff is so nice. The kitchen is letting the quarterback get sacked. Not sure if we'll try here again. Quality has been taking a nose dive trajectory and it doesn't seem to care. read more

Where do you go for a fantastic and scrumptious meal, great service, amazing portions, a beautiful and comfortable setting, that genuine and home Greek hospitality and love 258 miles south of NYC ? It's the gorgeous Amphora Diner in Herndon, Virginia. The entrance is so nice. There is a warmth that hits you the second you enter. The greeting from the hostess and not one but three different wait staff was very cordial. The presentation of the menu booklet is just stunning. It is classy. I am so used to the old, long plastic 8 by 14 pages. My buddy Gerry opted for the Caribbean salad with grilled chicken added and I ordered the glazed salmon salad with this wonderful citrus dressing. Both were so fresh, bursting with flavor; the fresh mango on the Caribbean salad was simply outstanding. The salmon was grilled perfectly and the chick peas added a nice taste to the salad. The hot tea was served in this beautiful flask( the hot water that is) and our great server Alan brought me two tea bags to start with and replenished the hot water pronto. He was just great - friendly, cool, funny and on the ball. The breakfast items also looked very appetizing. I had heard a lot about their stellar bakery. Next time! The owner Steve made it a point to come by and say hello and check up on us. Amphora Diner is open daily from 7 am to midnight and their bakery is also in Herndon about 2 miles away on Sunset Park Drive. This was a fantastic meal and experience . read more

Stopped by here on a Saturday morning with a friend of mine for some breakfast as we've always past by this pace but never went in. Well, this was our chance and from our experience, it was good. The Food: I went with the "Cajun Eggs Benedict" for my meal. Two eggs benedicts with some andouille sausage, and some hash on the side. Eggs were cooked nicely with a runny yolk, muffins were soft. However, there were barely any sausages in my meal. And, the portions for everything was small. It was odd because for about $16, I thought I'd get something a little more fulfilling. I probably won't be getting the benedict again. Maybe something else next time, if I find myself back here. The Service: Service was good! For it being a Saturday morning, the restaurant was decently busy and we didn't have to wait log for a table. Staff were attentive and friendly. I look forward to my visits to Amphora Diner because of its varied menu and attentive service. I'm temporarily disabled and use a walker. Many times the front end manager will open the door for me (a struggle) and lead me to an accessible table. The wait staff is great. I normally get Arshad as my waiter. He welcomes me every visit with a glass of iced tea, my drink of choice. He's more than gracious in his service. He gets orders right and frequently looks in on me throughout the meal. Arshad, like the rest of the wait staff, is a 'Professional' waiter. I'm not going to talk about the food other than to say that every meal is tasty and the portions are 'generous.' Such an excellent brunch spot! I stopped in on a weekday morning to visit with old friends, and we all got copious platters of food, delivered by a friendly, attentive server. Everything was tasty and just like we wanted it. On the way out, we admired the beautiful baked goods. (I've got to take pictures of those desserts next time I visit.) I stopped by Amphora for lunch with some colleagues. The menu had many options which made it difficult to decide what to get. I ended up going with the "Gyro Sandwich Platter". The dish size was a good size for lunch. The quality of the food was decent (it was not spectacular but it was not terrible). The main issue I found at Amphora was the speed of service. When we arrived we were sat very quickly however, it took about 20 minutes before someone took our order and then after that no one was around except when the food came out which made it difficult to ask for anything, including the bill. I came in late and flying solo on a Friday night (in town on business and staying the weekend) and found there to be plenty of space to grab a seat. Service from the git go was on point and I was made to feel very welcome. In true east coast style diner fashion I found the menu to have a plethora of options to choose from which makes it hard for me because a dozen things always look so good it's hard to narrow down to one thing. For me, after a long week I needed some comfort food so I went with a CFS and some mashed tatoes!!!! Dude, there's something to be said for a fish like to come out and feel like I'd be commuting a crime for adding salt or pepper at the table. I'm all about big flavors and enjoying what I get and this dinner was killer just the way it came out!!! This is what I wanted in my life and work to keep!! We wanted a place that had a menu that would accommodate the food requests of a variety of people. Amphora certainly has such a menu. Upon driving up to the front of the building, it almost looks deserted or closed. But there was a sign on the door saying something like "We are open; Come in". We went in and found that there were two tables occupied at dinner time on a weekday. The server, Victor, was quick to come to out table, but seemed to loose interest when we ordered "water" instead of a drink that would add to the price of the bill. We ordered two diverse entree items (i.e., most entrees seem to be priced between $15 and $20). The food came and was edible but of low quality. With tax, the bill was in the mid $40s. What was once one of the best restaurants in the DMV is now becoming one of the worst. Seems like once the Vienna location shut down, the current couldn't carry on like before. For a non-busy Sunday night, it took forever to get a simple dessert with ice cream practically melted. Wonder how long it sat out til our server got it to us??? Menu is also significantly reduced as well. Maybe the owners need to just sell or shut down for good. The only thing that saved this rating from a one star is that our server was sweet and apologetic for the delay. However, I will patronize other establishments that have it together.
