The delightful thing about diners is the convenience of a group order in which everyone is craving something completely different haha. Ordering out- (we unfortunately had to use Door Dash for delivery), we were able to select a wide variety of dishes, including: Country Fried Steak & Eggs- this meal was quite tasty! A large, well-seasoned, well fried piece of fried steak- with a bold flavored gravy smothered all over. Nothing special about the eggs, but the home fries were also very tasty-with lots of charred onion bits and great seasoning. The dish was quite heavy in a good way, very filling-worth the price for such a large delicious portion Gyro Platter- a very mediocre gyro-which was surprising for how many Greek specialties they promote. The pita was cold & a bit stale tasting-there was a very minimal amount of gyro meat- they included lettuce, but there were no tomatoes or onions (typical of a gyro). The fries weren't anything special, no grand crisp or well-seasoned yumminess. Mozzarella Sticks-tasted like they were out of a frozen oven box re-heated Grilled Cheeses-very gourmet with lots of toppings, unique flavor combinations Overall, I did enjoy my breakfast choice of the country fried steak. It hit the spot, it was very flavorful, and worth the meal. However, I felt the rest of the dishes were very average, and in the end a bit overpriced. In all we spent $43 for two meals at a diner...bleg. Also, I think it's important to note, we asked for Special Instructions with a few of the meals (i.e put the sauce on the side, please include 'this' sauce for dipping, but they seemed to ignore all of the requests. read more

Very happy with my three experiences here. I've only had take out orders, but that staff is extremely friendly. I had the Kapama (bone-in lamb), with a side of veggies and side Caesar salad. Lamb was SO tender and cooked to perfection. The veggies were fresh.l and I appreciated the mix. Their Caesar salad side is my go to. I'm assuming dressing is home made. I've been coming here for the last 20 years. The best corned beef hash I've ever eaten. Today was one of the days they run out of them. So tried different items. Didn't disappoint. I used to come here for breakfast a lot in the past, but it had been a while since I'd been back. Every now and then, I like to eat breakfast for dinner and Amphora was kindly offering 50% off on select breakfast menu items during these difficult times. I opted for curbside pickup and the food was not only prepared on time, but it was also piping hot. I went with the country fried steak and corned beef hash. Both breakfast entrees were very tasty, and I'd certainly recommend both. I especially loved the home fries that came with the country fried steak. In saying this, it's so important in these times to support local, small businesses, so if you get a chance, definitely do what you can! read more

After 3 times of trying Amphora's, I would say this place is a solid 3 stars. On a curve, it's decent (clean and spacious), but compared to top-quality diners and breakfast places, it's just average. Yes, it's better than Silver Diner and Virginia's Kitchen in the area, but I've noticed that the service and quality of food isn't up to par. Yes the owners seem delightful and friendly - which is great - but the staff (who comprise of the majority of the experience) need work. Either they are overworked and spread to thin, or they aren't taught the essentials of checking in, and being attentive/listening. One way or another this should change. 3 out of the 3 times I was here (twice alone and once with a group) I was basically ignored; the waiter/ess didn't get to me and after waiting some 5 mins or so, I had to request for someone to take my order. I did see them taking other people's order sooner though. Not sure why that was. Also, on service, besides the coffee person - who was attentive - I was never really "checked on" from the waiter/ess. I can also share the first time I was here, my (clean) mug had a lipstick mark on it, and my request to bring out certain portions of the food was also ignored. As shared above, I believe either they are understaffed and or overworked, or simply, they haven't/aren't taught the basics. In regards to their food, their menu-options are great, and their coffee is nice, too, but unfortunately the quality or at least temperature of their food isn't; lukewarm and somewhat soggy food. When it comes to catering to large amounts of people, the focus by defaults sometimes goes towards quantity over quality. I can understand how things slip between the cracks at times, but with already 3 consecutive experiences, changes need to be made if they seek to grow. Suggestions: + Hire more staff and or train them better (see above) + Focus on more quality over quantity (temperate of food: crispiness of waffles etc.) read more

My friend and I enjoyed our combo platters of moussaka, pastitsio, and spinach pie (with fries). It's a lot of food, so I got to enjoy my leftovers too. We also ordered some yummy cookies to go. I especially liked the black and white cookie. I took away one star only because my husband wasn't happy with his chicken parm. Unfortunately, the restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday night. The service is pretty good no matter when I visit. However, the desserts are just not up to the caliber that I expected. Over the past few months, I have tried their chai cupcake, vanilla cupcake, brownie, M&I cookie, cherry handpie, apple handpie, & ginger molasses cookie. Out of all of those things, I would only recommend going back to eat the ginger molasses cookie and the apple handpie. I found their butter cream to either be gritty or lacking flavor on the cupcakes and that their brownie and other cookies are a bit dry. Additionally, their coffee is just not well proportioned when getting a hazelnut latte and it was not enjoyable to drink. I came here via invitation because my husband stated that he enjoyed their omelets the first time he came here and he wanted to return. Large menu that is sure to please everybody, but makes me wonder about the amount of house-made meal components versus ready-made restaurant supplier foods. I enjoyed my bagel and lox with capers, purple onion and cream cheese. Very generous portion of fresh smoked salmon. Also served with tomato and lettuce, which I didn't eat. I had no issue with the service, which was adequate and forgettable. Other meals at the table included the huevos rancheros, blintzs, and chocolate chip pancakes. Really nothing special, but it was one of the only options for breakfast on New Year's Day for our group of 9. We seated fairly quickly-10-15 minute wait. However, our food took almost an hour to come out, not good for our hangry and hungover bellies. Our food was lukewarm at best when it arrived, and all around not very good. My tex mex scramble was suppose to come with chorizo, but it had regular sausage in it, and my fries were limp. The onion rings were really good and crisp, but the pizza burger was just a messy pile of grease that went all over my friend as he took his first bite. A shadow of its former self. When I moved to NoVA in 2010, I LOVED Amphora. But now, I don't see the Reston location holding on that much longer. My eggs were super greasy and were clearly prepared by someone who couldn't cook. But what I REALLY didn't like was when the employee at the register got tired of holding a pen out and tossed it over the register at me and walked away. He didn't want to wait for me to put my wallet back in my purse so I could sign the receipt. Geez that wasn't nice. read more

I've lived in Herndon for less than a week and have already ordered delivery twice! My first day in town I ordered desserts for a family member helping me move in and they were a great treat! The key lime pie was amazing and we also got the bread pudding and fresh fruit cake. A couple days later I decided to try a couple sandwiches. The gyro and Rueben were both delicious and HUGE portions! You definitely get your moneys worth. My one complaint would be the packing of the food. The fries came squished into both sandwiches and I had to pick them out between ingredients which made my sandwiches extra greasy and the fries incredibly soggy and gross. read more

I stopped in today, placed a to go order. Easy peasy... the pancake deluxe, add pecans to my pancakes, egg whites with pepper jack, meat of choice: ham. I added home fries on the side. Pretty basic breakfast order. Waited a good 20 mins for my order. I get home...no pecans in my pancakes...fine. But there's this huge platter in the bag...it's potatoes with cheese...bacon and cheese. Not sure what this is...it's not home fries. Also...I'm sure they added all this bc there is no flavor to the potatoes. They are bland! The pancakes are tasty! I will say that! Now...there was small styrofoam package in the bag...I open it and my eggs and ham were in there. The eggs to lacked flavor, additionally there was water in there. More than condensation...but water. Not sure why. So I passed on the eggs. I'll be eating the pancakes and the ham. This isn't my first time at this establishment...I hadn't been there in a while and I usually get breakfast burritos for my team. Now I know...it's pancakes or breakfast burritos. Also, the person that took my order was new...that's what he said and there wasn't anyone there assisting him. So maybe that's why my order came out like this. I am visiting my son and daughter in law and this was this was our time here today for breakfast. First off the waiter smelled like he had not bathed in a week(2?). Then as he brought our water his had were wrapped around the rim of our glasses. My son order the Peach Fizz, which tastes like "bath tub" gin... it was awful. The "toast " was more like warm bread, and though I ordered eggs over medium, they were runny and luke warm. My son's meal was "nothing special either. This place is everything you could possibly want in a diner and then some. PERFECT for large groups. They accommodated our large group of 24 multiple days during our trip to DC and they made us feel welcome every time. Great service, staff and ownership. They have a great scan to pay system where each person can pick the items they want to pay for using their smartphone. And the food is excellent! Please try the breakfast sausage frittata. Amazing! Once ordering, found they were out of hollandaise sauce, so ordered the brisket sandwich with sausage. Best thing about it was the home fries! They were very good! Was disappointed in the sandwich, as the egg was over hard, the cheese was American (asked for cheddar), and thought the sausage would be a patty. Just wasn't what I was expecting. Additionally, the baklava and breakfast food is out of this world. I'm amazing at how the menu can be so extensive but all the food comes out absolutely perfect. I've come here a few times for breakfast. The eggs are perfectly cooked as was the bacon and the home fried potatoes. The pancakes were delicious. Good coffee. The service is a little slow. Burgers and fries at lunch were good , too. I have one complaint and I see this at many places: the salt and pepper shakers are filthy. So is the syrup container. I'm not sure who has responsibility for cleaning these items but diners would be well-served (excuse the pun) to bring along some wipes to clean them before using. read more

I'll be honest... I'm not a big fan of amphoras...haven't been for over 10 years ago. I ended up coming here for a friend's birthday dinner. I'm giving three stars (instead of 2 or 1) because I did have exceptional service. As soon as I walked in the restaurant, I notuced it had a horrible smell. There weren't too many people there for a Saturday night. I ordered what I thought was the "Home Fries All the Way", but turned out to be the "Home Fries". The waiter quickly fixed this, brought out a plate of the "Home Fries All the Way". His service was exceptional during the whole night. I wish I remember his name to give him props. The dish itself was LOADED with bacon, which was great. However, when I read "four cheeses" I thought it was actually mixed with 4 cheeses (like for a four cheese pizza or pasta). Instead, it looks like each cheese was on each a quarter (as shown in my pic). The Chocolate cake wasn't too bad. I used to come to this place to order the white chocolate raspberry mousse cake years ago. But that cake just didn't have any taste and was very dry after a while so I stopped ordering it. I was pretty impressed with a chocolate cake though. I would only return on an as-needed basis. read more

It's been many times we've dined here late on a Friday night after flying in to Dulles on the last flight of the evening. Where else has a full bar, plenty of comfortable seating, a huge menu, and an incredible selection of beautiful cookies, cakes and pie? Nowhere! Everything we've eaten has been solid and enjoyable. But, it's the cookies that really set this place apart. They are so incredibly creative and beautiful, it's like they are pieces of art and shouldn't be eaten... But, we eat them anyway! The staff here are responsive and friendly, and they have the best baklava I've found in all of NoVa. They have an immense menu and a huge array of desserts. We have made this diner our go to breakfast spot and are there just about every Saturday- they have the best pancakes in the area as far as I am concerned, and I've tried every place around- Famous Toastery, IHop, Silver Diner, etc. none can match Amphora's pancakes. Two wishes: Please consider putting my favorite salad- the Waldorf, back on the menu. Like a typical American diner except much more upscale. They offer all the usual dishes including Greek ones plus a lot more. Their bakery offerings are astounding... And the dessert menu is to die for. The place is very clean and friendly and they can accommodate larger groups as well. I went there with my family and was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the massive menu. There surely is something for everyone here. Thank goodness they just relocated to Herndon. I grew up in neighboring Manassas, and I am a working musician. In the late 70s & forward, when working anywhere near Fairfax County or closer to DC, I would always stop for a fantastic meal & a pastry on the way home. I now live near Austin, TX, but when I visit Northern Virginia to see family or friends, I fly into Dulles, and The Amphora Diner in Herndon is my first stop. You can get breakfast in any imaginable incarnation, great soups & sandwiches, Greek dishes, and my favorite dish there is their absolutely stellar, London Broil. The baked goods there are as good as they get. Napoleans, Eclairs, Sacher Torte, and the Rum Ball is the size of a Tennis Ball and will put you on your keester if you're not careful, lol. That and a cup of black coffee is a heavenly finish. Next time you are in Northern Virginia, you owe it to yourself to give them a try. You will not regret it. While driving back to New Jersey, I decided to stop at Amphora's Diner Deluxe in Herndon, Virginia. I've been to many diners in New Jersey, but not many in Washington DC.  One thing I appreciate is a diner open 24 hours a day.  There are fewer and fewer of them these days! I decided to stop at Amphora's Diner Deluxe. We wanted to stop at a diner in that general area, and the online menu looked good. Atmosphere: The exterior of the Amphora's Diner Deluxe is metallic, chrome, and shiny. If you're looking for a stereotypical diner, Amphora's Diner Deluxe is a great stop. You walk into the giant and well-known bakery. There are plenty of booths, tables, and a full-length bar. Coffee: The coffee at Amphora's Diner Deluxe was brewed fresh and was dark. The mug said Lavalaza. I was disappointed with the number of grounds in the bottom. A few I could deal with, but it was a sea of grounds. Food: Amphora's Diner Deluxe menu has plenty of options from all-day breakfast, pages of salads, lunch, and dinner specials. The menu even has a whole page of vegetarian options too. Since I was hungry, I decided to order the grilled mixed vegetables, which came with a medley of balsamic grilled Vegetables. It was delicious and I was happy with my choice. I will say it could use bread. For my entree, I decided to order the ratatouille bake. I can't remember if I've ever ordered ratatouille at a diner before, but it was incredibly filling. Service: The waiter at Amphora's Diner Deluxe was great and friendly. He refilled my beverages, and our food came out in the blink of an eye. Overall Thoughts/Would I come back? A Greek diner, I believe. Good food, when done correctly... Came in on a Saturday morning. Usually has a wait but not today. We were seated immediately. My husband ordered Belgian waffles. I, an omelet, a black coffee, and water. When the food came out, it was all cold. The cheese wasn't even completely melted on my omelet. My husband's waffle was a cold stiff disk. I was very hungry so I kept my meal but my husband told the waitress. She seemed very annoyed with his complaint. A little eye roll and a "uhh but it's fresh. What would you like me to do?" He replied that he would like a hot one. The butter that came with the waffle was also frozen so there was no way of spreading it. She took his plate and a few minutes later she comes back, with the same waffle, and says "This one is fresh off griddle! Very hot" but it wasn't... the butter my husband attempted to put on it was still there... and it just had a SLIGHTLY warm center. A 20 microwave zap is all it got at most. Actually maybe just some time under a heat lamp. Although mine was cold, the flavor was there. Unfortunately for my husband, he will not like to return. Poor service. read more
