I'd give 4 stars for effort - they have a loyal advocate in a gentleman named John manning a stall/table at a farmers market at Lake Anne shopping center swearing by their organic food. According to John he is just a customer who has been one for many years. He had their delicious mini muffins - I love their ginger one, naturally sweetened. So much so that I had to drop by Greenfare after I left the market and on my drive back to VA Beach. There were a couple of tables outside, where people were being served. I appreciate the pride and effort made by the owner to prepare food that is organic, fresh, without the use of salt or seed oils. You can tell they are proud of what they are providing and the customer service is excellent as they cater to your needs and are patient with explanations of the menu w/ recommendations. The lasagna was a big hit, the jackfruit bbq sandwich was tasty served with asain potatoes and a salad. All of the portions were a good size. There are only 2 to 3 mnoenu items without tofu. They also serve plenty of healthy muffins and cookies. Pizza can be ordered in advance on select days, which I haven't tried yet. A few people like to add their own hot sauce or pinch of salt but I found my food tasty as is. If this were a local establishment, I would be a regular customer. Take all my money! I love this place so much. It's healthy, satisfying, and delicious. We drove 40 miles to get here because of the reviews and this place did not disappoint. Food served quick and was steamy hot. No oil, no added salt, no added sugar, no dairy... and yet incredibly succulent. Ordered lasagna and enchilada, both were excellent. Found the restaurant on a whim; we were visiting from Rhode Island for a couple of days. So happy we did. Having such excellent food with no added oils/salt is a rare find. Having those same foods be better than places that use all the unneeded additions is just mind blowing! We enjoyed the fried quinoa and tofu dish and the ginger stir fry bowl. We couldn't decide for dessert and we were treated to a little sampler of the chocolate mousse and the pumpkin bar. The service was attentive and genuine. The location itself is surrounded by literature for living a clean eating life but nothing is being pushed on you if you're just looking for a good meal. I have been a customer of Greenfare's since 2016. Going plant-based, whole food has made a real positive impact on my life. For most of my meals, I use Greenfare's takeout service..which is excellent. Today, I had a rare opportunity to sit and actually eat lunch at the cafe. The ambiance is all about their vision for maintaining our health. The only word I can use for the service is "caring"...with every interaction. I came in yesterday for there "Reversing Diabetes in 28 Days" Event from 5-7 pm. Once I checked in with a gentleman at the counter, I was told to sit at a table of my choosing. I was offered a drink by the man who I checked in with and chose a glass of water. I sat and sat and sat without anyone ever coming to my table again.There were 4 others in the restaurant and two employees. As I understand from the description of the event on Eventbrite, dinner was from 5-6. The gentleman who checked me in was tinkering around the cash register and front counter the entire time. I certainly didn't understand the format. I read their menu provided at the table.Nearly every dish was prepared with tree nuts or peanuts. After 1/2 hr of sitting and not understanding how the dinner portion of the event or the event in general worked, I finally went up to the man tinkering at the counter and explained my allergy to tree nuts and peanuts. He pointed out two menu items without nuts. I mentioned my concerns for cross contamination and he was noncommittal about the possibility. He obviously didn't care one way or the other. I decided for my own safety to exit. Interestingly enough, I didn't smell any food being prepared at all. I overheard the other employee mentioning to a patron, something about their 28 day meal plan?!. Perhaps the event was to market their meal kits?! What bothered me the most is that the "host(s)" never attempted to explain a format for the event, whether we were expected to order and then pay for items off of their menu? Was there a cooking demonstration involved? Was it an interactive event? Was a Registered Dietitian or Medical Professional conducting training? No introductions were made at all. Actually found these folks on Happy Cow and it was near the hotel and the YMCA I was swimming at. VERY interesting shopping center with a Sprouts and an Organic local market as well a pile of Thai and other restaurants in this same center. failry quiet when I arrived and took an inside table (just me) a few folks outside and it seemed a brick take-out business. REALLY clean and tidy. The in house library was VERY extensive with all kinds of excellent books you can leave with it took me a DECADE to collect and read these titles and they have them all right there!!! Service was fantastic. I picked out a few kombucha out of the two local brands with numerous flavor in each. After much indecision I went with the Organic fried Quinoa with baked tofu over mixed vegetables. Pros: all vegan menu with lots of interesting options; health-conscious ingredients leave you nourished and not feeling too heavy after eating; good service Cons: we tried the Buffalo cauliflower, jackfruit BBQ sandwich w/ sweet potato fries, and mushroom enchilada. The Buffalo cauliflower was overbaked (texture wise was dry and crunchy) for my taste, and both mains surprisingly lacked flavor for such flavorful dishes traditionally. I know there is no added oil or salt, but I felt like the flavor could really have been kicked up a notch still, and/or more sauces provided (e.g. hot sauce) Neutral: the place was very empty at 5:30p on a Monday, we were 1 table out of maybe 3 or 4 customers during peak dinner hour. I'm completely underwhelmed with what I got for lunch the other day. Maybe I had high standards because of the reviews so I was expecting more. I asked the person working if he would rather get the Jackfruit BBQ or Thai Quinoa, and he said definitely Thai Quinoa! I was excited, i love thai food and quinoa so I thought it would have been perfect. I opened it and was shocked. It was literally small pieces of kale and quinoa with a small amount of "hot sauce" on the side. I mean I was expecting tofu, broccoli or at least some other veggies but it was literally kale and quinoa. It also had zero flavor, no spices or anything. At least pepper would be nice? I'm more shocked that I paid that much for this. I would have made quinoa at home if I knew I was only getting quinoa. I basically got a side dish. I had to go home and cook an actual dish to go with my side. It was very disappointing. I guess I should have asked what dish is actually a dish and not a side. The staff(owner?) offered to bring us the desert. We accepted. The slice of pie ($9) was small (maybe 21/2"x3/12") but super delicious. When we finished, we waited maybe just 2 more mins, and then HAD to go... we were pushing being late to a ticketed event. We paid the bill, and I asked for the appetizer ($12) to go. We were on the verge of leaving, when they brought it. We ate in the car, and it was very good, but 25 minutes to get an appetizer seems excessive. HERE'S WHY I'M WRITING THIS REVIEW: I just got the credit bill. In what universe does 9+12 = $32.15? This place is about the cause, not the food. First red flag: you walk in and the place doesn't even smell like food! It smelled like an office. Second, the food lacked flavor. It kills me that people come to this place and think THIS is what vegan food is. I make and have had much better vegan food elsewhere. Sauces made of a flat hot sauce and no other aromatics. Not tasty. - Sweet Potato & Spinach Lasagna - without the spinach, this would have been good. We had to add salt. Worth it. - Chocolate Nut Pie - weird texture, but great flavor! We do recommend this. It's very tasty (if you like dates). The total bill ended up being $80 + tip. Definitely not worth it. I think if we had to eat this way, we'd get used to it (and definitely lose weight because nothing kills cravings like bland food). This restaurant makes me wish I lived here! While traveling from out-of-state, my husband and I were excited to find this place. We went WFPB NO-SOS a year & a half ago and have found eating out extremely challenging. GreenFare has brought my hopes back that it could be not only possible, but delicious. The jackfruit bbq sandwich and the Thai quinoa bowl were amazing - very flavorful. The texture of the quinoa bowl was perfect - fluffy yet held together beautifully. The portions were generous (my husband had to help me finish my meals even). We liked it so much we went back for a second day - the enchiladas, patatas bravas, and buffalo cauliflower were all cooked perfectly (and we got a repeat of the bbq jackfruit). This restaurant does what many think to be impossible. They prepare organic, animal-free plant based foods without adding any salt, sugar or oil. It's quite impressive! I ordered the organic spinach & sweet potato lasagna and the organic mushroom medley enchilada to go. They are currently closed for dining in, but continue to offer carry out. There is also limited seating available just outside the restaurant. The staff I talked to (Pericles Silva) was incredibly helpful but not pushy, he treated me to an educational chat while I waited for my order. Flavors - The enchilada was delicious and perfect as is. It's served on a bed of salad. The lasagna was a bit on the bland side, but I added ground cumin to it at home since my order was to go, and voila. It was so yummy with cumin. I didn't add any salt to my dishes and they tasted great. If you are someone who's not familiar with eating and cooking WFPB, this place might be a shock for you. This was my first time here, and I'd certainly go back. They have this hot chocolate mushroom elixir I ordered as a dessert alternative - you can get it sweet or spicy. I opted for sweet and it was so delicious! Try it! My heart went out to our server Chris. He was greeting people, getting drinks, taking orders, bringing out food, doing the transactions, and cleaning up tables. He was the only server in the whole place. And it was a Saturday during the dinner rush. There really needs to be AT LEAST two servers at any given time, that was seriously ridiculous to only have one. The whole idea of GreenFare is to be healthy and create a positive energy to inspire others. I'd much rather see three people in there with a laid back energy than one person having to move non-stop. My friend and I kept commenting about how the poor guy was completely on his own. I'm giving them 3 stars because I love the fact that it's an all vegan restaurant and they have a variety of events at their store. However, they do not cook with any salt, oils or spices which is why I do not like the food here. If I knew about this before I wouldn't have bothered trying this place. I'm all for health, but you shouldn't have to sacrifice flavor in order to eat healthy. The Greenfare website is very transparent about their restaurant. I ordered a $16 macaroni and cheese and it was like eating noodles in cashew water covered in hot sauce. I hate hot sauce and I didn't know about the hot sauce because it wasn't in the description on the app. The hot sauce didn't add anything to the taste, just made the experience even worse. Half of my noodles were stuck to my to-go container because they don't cook with oil. If you do not cook with oils, salts or spices this is the perfect restaurant for you. I've recently given up eating red meat. So when I spoke to a friend earlier today and said I didn't know what I was going to do for dinner yet and that I was considering driving to Falls Church to go to an amazing vegan restaurant that I had tried earlier this week - Loving Hut, he reminded me that there was a vegan restaurant close to home in Greenfare. I had forgotten and so this reminder brought great excitement and I looked forward to trying this highly rated (on Yelp) restaurant. When I entered the restaurant and was seated, there was 2 other tables with customers and about 10 empty tables. I sat myself and the very cordial waitress came over to me and gave me the advertising pitch of the restaurant: "This is a completely plant based restaurant with no meat products. It's completely organic and uses no salt, no sugar, no oil, no additional sweeteners, and again...no meat. We are one of only 6 completely organic restaurants in the country." It was a great speech given by an extremely friendly person, but it set the stage for one of the greatest culinary disappointments I've ever experienced. If this is one of only 6 completely organic restaurants in this country, I have no desire to visit any of the other 5. I appreciate that the restaurant is completely vegan and uses no salt, sugar, or sweeteners...but this is not excuse for a restaurant to have no flavor. My meal tonight was the blandest thing I've ever eaten. The restaurant offers a sea salt shaker and crushed red pepper shaker on the table, but even the addition of these spices was not enough to make up for the lack of flavor in my meal. I have eaten at my fair share of vegan restaurants and I have also eaten a lot of organic foods, and every other meal has had more flavor than what I experienced at Greenfare. Two of my favorite vegan restaurants in Northern Virginia: Sunflower and Loving Hut, are both spectacularly better than GreenFare. Do they use salt and oil? Yes they do. So is it fair to compare them to GreenFare? Perhaps not. But as a critic and objective customer and food enthusiast, good tasting food is good tasting food regardless of what it is made from. And despite the fact that GreenFare may be one of the healthiest places to eat at, it is by far the least delicious. Did I also mention that GreenFare is exceptionally expensive? A meal that costs me $16-20 for essentially salad or pasta with no meat is absurd. Any other restaurant that serves a pasta or salad dish with traditional protein, the protein is the most expensive component. So for a restaurant to serve dishes without that most expensive piece, at the same or even higher prices, it just doesn't make sense. And yes, I realize that organic foods cost more than non-organic foods, but ultimately at the end of the day, we're still talking about vegetables and pasta. I know what it costs to make an organic salad or a pasta dish...after all there is an organic supermarket a couple doors down from GreenFare. I realize restaurants need to make a profit but this is absurd. I also haven't even said anything about the wait. As I said earlier, there were only 2 sets of customers when I arrived. I waited nearly 40 minutes for my single dish to arrive. After I was seated, the restaurant filled up with another 3 or 4 tables of large parties. But being that I was only the third customer at the time I was seated, and the other two groups had already started receiving food, and I only ordered one dish, I was shocked that it took so long. The waitress warned me when I first sat down and looked at the menu that everything is cooked to order and so it takes time....but all great restaurants make their food to order. And the truly great ones don't take 40 minutes to cook vegetables. Lastly, the ambiance. This restaurant is kept chilly. The thermostat must have been set to 60 because I was practically shivering the entire time I was there. My meal was so bland and terrible that I did not finish my meal. I came here once based on someone's suggestion. I'm not vegan and eat meat and fish. I tried the macaroni, which was obviously not made wiyh cheese. Instead, it was made with a cashew-based sauce. This was supposed to come with sriracha, but I asked for it on the side. I thought the restaurant had interesting decoration...animal pictures on the wall. It actually kind of kept me from wanting to finish the dish, and instead craved meat! read more

Loved it. Charming/small setting, friendly capable staff, nice menu selections variety. I got three meals from ample portion of Organic Spinach Alfredo with Whole Wheat Pasta, to which I added tofu and portabella. I don't eat Alfredo dishes -- too unhealthy -- but done here with Cashew/Pine Nut Sauce it's quite tasty. Greenfare is WAY far from me but I'll find excuses to be back. Yup, it's slow -- everything cooked from scratch -- but worth the wait. Yup -- it's just a bit more expensive than standard eatery -- but worth it for ingredients used. read more

I have now eaten here three times, and every time I order the same thing for myself (the Thai quinoa) while others taste the menu. Thus far I've tried the garden pie, moussaka, and tamale pie, but I'm sorry, the Thai quinoa trumps them all! We have also ventured to try the kombucha, and I particularly enjoyed the pomegranate flavor. It's very cool that you can order a refillable pint (comes in a jar), so you can take it back into the store to fill again next time around! We ordered the red bean lava cake, which requires 30 min prep. I can honestly say, it was decadent and delicious, and I'm dumbfounded as to how they got it so flavorful without using sugar. The GreenFare gods are at work, bringing us great tasting food sans sugar, salt and oil! Every time I've eaten here, I'm constantly looking to see if the waiter is bringing my food. The wait might be a little longer in an Organic kitchen, but thus far has been moderate. I will continuously eat here. I love it and like to show it off to friends for an interesting time out without taking them into the iconic parts of the city. The farm animal paintings are a clever touch.
