The food and services are consistently good. The atmosphere was very decent even though. We went there early so we did not have to wait.

Came here at 8:30 pm and we were in and out super quickly. The quality of the fish is great, my favorite roll was the Romeo and Juliet as the palette for that was on the lighter side but our other rolls were great as well if you prefer saucier. All of our nigiri was delicious, my favorite was the Toro. Our squid came out last and the bite was perfect and not rubbery, I'd recommend this if you need extra protein. I think there's two Amami's on the same street, the other one just has Bistro in the name. I have no idea if they're the same thing but just something to note when punching it into your GPS. The parking lot is pretty small but since we came before closing, it was pretty empty. Overall, the customer service is efficient and the food was great! read more

Don't get it twisted to the one next to Walgreens on Crystal Springs. This place is similar but a different vibe and a different menu. Here there's no physical menu there's a QR code. The outside seems pretty sketch, but the inside is really nice and cute, newly renovated. Good service, we came here because they open at 4:30pm compared to other sushi spots that open at 5. We were too hungry to wait. Their menu is pretty affordable, and I noticed that their omakase was very cheap. Would love to come back and experience that. We ordered the Tonkatsu dinner with me so and a salad. The tonkatsu was nicely breaded and seasoned and their rice was very good. We also ordered plain California roll to judge and I think the unagi lover roll. Both were pretty good. Was craving omakase, so I'm back at my favorite omakase spot. Arrived at 7 and was seated immediately at the bar. We ordered the omakase, chirashi rice plate, mixed tempura, and a hot sake. The omakase is still the best in town. The chirashi had a great selection of sashimi. The tempura -- which I forgot to take a picture of -- was crispy and delicious. I wish they gave two pieces of pumpkin because it was so sweet. They have a small parking lot with about 10 spaces, but if it's full, there's also street parking, so parking isn't an issue. They offer both bar seating and table seating, so you can choose what you prefer. read more

Came here over 2 years ago and had to wait over 1 hour because we had no reservation on a Friday night. This is after a 1.5 hours drive from San Jose! So I was in a negative mind set and had swore to never come back here. As fate would have it, I had a chance to come here again on a Sunday early evening. No waiting and the food was fantastic! The special Fatty O Toro was quite good and basically melted in my mouth. The portion was generous and the cut was just thick enough to make the fresh fish delicious. The next piece was the Ebi sweet shrimp head soup and sashimi style for the body. It's not on the menu so you have to ask for it. We also ordered the grilled Kampachi Kama. A grilled fish with 4 pieces of grilled fish that consist of 2 fish heads. Not recommend for non connoisseur of sushi. A squeeze of lemon on the fish make its a delicious treat. I also tried the Hamachi Jalapeño with some kick and the special oyster with quail egg and Tampico. Quite good. Didn't expect the food was this good so it was a nice surprise. My boyfriend's family and I all went there for the first time in a while, for me my first time ever. We ordered a lot of food, and at first it was very good. We got the miso soup, oysters, Hamachi Jalapeño, oyster special with uni and eggs, and the omakase. I devoured all of it. Afterwards I went to use the bathroom and I saw a few roaches on the wall coming from the kitchen. I tried not to think much of it. Sometimes it happens... but then when we were on the way home I ended up feeling really sick. I found out that I had gotten scombroid food poisoning. I've had food poisoning before but it was nothing like this... I had to take off work because of severe stomach pain, fever, chills, nausea and other issues that I won't name. Passed by and had Amami Sushi in my bookmarks. I was able to try it on a Saturday night and it was fairly busy with people and to go orders. The lover boat was indeed a lot of fish and looks nice. But again quality is lacking. The Philadelphia roll was mainly cream cheese. The sliced ginger was old and fairly dry. I'd say if you want cheap-ish and not so great quality but big pieces of fish then try Amami. The service was good and you get a lot of food. But the quality is lacking. Amami Sushi is located in San Bruno. However the address is not 1789 El Camino. It's actually, 312 El Camino Real. Surprisingly there several Amami Sushi in San Bruno and South San Francisco. This one happens to be located in the middle of them both. We decided to try this location with a couple of our friends. The restaurant is a decent size with a partition that separates the front and the back. This place is known for their sushi and that's what we ordered. For appetizers, we ordered the chicken karrage and agedashi tofu. They were delicious. Some times you order the fried chicken and it's real greasy, but this one was light and full of flavor. For the main course, we ordered the Omakase nigiri special which had a variety of sushi. The ratio of fish versus rice on the sushi was perfect. Sometimes restaurants try to overwhelm the sushi with more rice and you lose the taste of the fish. Not this place. They make sure you get your moneys worth. We also got the seared baby lobster which was two decent size lobster. The service was awesome. I believe the individuals helping serve our table with the co-owners. read more

What an amazing sushi experience!!! My fiancé and I decided to do a sushi date last night. The spot we usually go to was closed so we decided to try Amami for the first time. I am so glad we did! Everything was absolutely amazing!!! I thought the price of the O Toro and Chu Toro were very fair. And the O Toro was hands down one of the best I've ever had! Every fish was fresh and delicious with a huge ratio of protein to rice! I'm not much of a roll person but the two rolls we got (Colorful Roll and LA Roll) were amazing! Took my Valentine to Umami since sushi is his "thang". We ordered Tai Carpacio (3/5) Just alright Truffle Ponzu Sauce. This was our fave. But, today, the sauce was too diluted. Norwegian Salmon (5/5) So so good. The fish was buttery and succulent. 2 pieces for $15 though. Toro with Uni (4/5) It's pretty good. Never had uni before. But, they did a good job ! Romeo and Juliet Roll (2/5) Husband thing the black roe was a bit fist. I think it's okay. They added Sriracha on top. Man... that ruined the taste completely. Melt in your mouth toro. I cant rate this at all. See below. We started with Agedashi Tofu: Delicious and had a good crunch. Then, our sushi order did not come until 45min later. Our Melt in Your Mouth Roll never got to our table. We finished everything and the second roll was still MIA. We were in the restaurant for a total of 1.5hours by then. This is a sushi restaurant that I visit many times, almost once a month. In general, I am relatively satisfied with the products of this restaurant. The products of Amami Sushi are very consistent with their name. The taste is more Amami (sweet taste). They will spread some Japanese soy sauce on each piece of sushi, which will make the sushi taste sweeter. Another good thing I want to say is that this sushi restaurant has a large parking lot, which will make you not have to worry too much about parking. Back to the most important taste, I ordered their "Omakase", which means that the sushi for this meal is decided by the chef. As shown in the picture, the appearance of this plate of sushi is very delicate, the slices of sashimi are crystal clear and bright in color, the freshness of the ingredients is very good, and the chef slices the fish in front of you. Sushi is mainly nigiri sushi, and the rice of each piece of sushi is moderate in size, which will not snatch the flavor of the sashimi, nor will it be too loose to affect the taste. If you can sit at the bar, you can also see the chef making it for you. In addition, some sushi is paired with caviar, avocado, chopped green onion, shiso and other ingredients, adding different levels of flavor. Salmon sushi is plump and has an oily aroma, while grilled salmon adds a hint of smoky flavor after the surface is slightly charred, making the taste richer. Tuna sushi is firmer and has a very rich taste. White fish sushi, such as red snapper or sea bream, has a firmer texture and a refreshing flavor, while scallop sushi is mainly chewy and you can taste the unique sweet flavor of scallops. The avocado will have a creamy taste (but to be honest, I think avocado is more American-style, delicious, but I personally don't like it). Although we live close to an Amami Sushi, we always prefer the 40+ minute drive to this location. This place is a hit or miss in terms of getting a table (lesson learned) so we always book a reservation just in case. We had a horrible experience of sitting at a table one time next to an obnoxious group of men and women who were laughing and talking like they're inside their house so we ALWAYS prefer bar seating, especially at this place. Plus, what's better than a TV right in front of you or chefs prepping sushi. Jk. 99% of the times, we get their oyster shots (or oyster special - something like that but it's on a spoon), their omakase, o toro, seared toro w/ uni, and everything else varies. Their parking lot can get filled quickly so it depends on what time you go. Otherwise, there's plenty of street parking. I'd say their service is pretty good, the ladies are always attentive to everything you need whether it's refill on tea, utensils, or placing orders. There's not a lot of space to wait indoor so highly recommend getting a reservation so you're seated by the time you arrive. I've been to the other Amami Sushi in Cupertino and it doesn't compare...sushi is a little bit different and the staff are meh. read more

This was my first time going to the original Amami sushi and I was very pleased. It's a bit smaller than the one in South SF so I can definitely see it being busier at peak times. I came for dinner on a Thursday and my party of 4 was seated right away. Service was fast and efficient. We got the sushi deluxe as well as the chirashi. All the fish was very fresh. Also want to note that the bathroom was EXTREMELY CLEAN, like hotel/resort level clean. Not sure if it was just cleaned but reading other reviews seems like a norm. I'm so glad I come across Amami Sushi when I was doing my research on an afforable Omakase set to have my boyfriend and I try for the first time. I was looking around for an Omakase offering that was not too expensive (over $150) and didn't skimp out on proportions. On Yelp, there is no reservation system, just a waitlist. However, I did give them a call and was able to book seating for two so I would give that a try if you're planning to come here in advance. For a Saturday night at 7pm, it was pretty full, but I didn't see too many parties waiting outside. Parking is terrible though, but we were fortunate to find a public parking lot that was pretty close. The only thing is that there wasn't much light at that parking lot and it felt a bit sketch. Nothing happened when I came back to my car though so yay! Once you are seated, the server brings you a green tea set to warm up. The green tea was warm and tasty! The Omakase offering ($42 per person) with 10pc of nigiri was well worth it. Just know that you might be waiting a bit for it since a lot of people order for it, but we certainly didn't mind! HOLY MOLY - the nigiri pieces were HUGE. I was pleasantly surprised by how big the fish cuts were. I loved the rice that they used in all the pieces; it was sweet and did not fall apart that easily. All the pieces were very good, but I think my favorites is the seared salmon, and the three hamachi-like pieces (we didn't know the names). Unfortunately, they don't tell us what fish is which, but all tasted great. Some pieces had wasabi on top with caviar, which wasn't too overwhelming with the fish, but I'd just be careful if you are super sensitive to it. My sister and her family took my family here to celebrate my birthday because I'm the type of person that can never get enough of sushi. Judging from the esthetic from the parking, it looked like restaurants was a fast food restaurant previously. The menu is entirely digital and they don't have a paper menu when asked. This isn't the first restaurant where the menu is digitized, but I have never had a restaurant where they don't at least have a few paper copies for the tech peeps. My sister recommended I get the omakase so brother-in-law and I ordered that dish, it was one of the more expensive item on the menu, but my sister insisted so I ordered it. The dish came with 10 pieces of the chef's choice selection for $42. The price seems reasonable if you calculated by pieces and the slice the fish extra long, which almost give you an extra 1/2 piece os sushi. We were very pleased with the selection and finished it without trying too hard. Omakase: 5/5 My husband ordered the beef teriyaki dinner. He said it was very nicely prepared. By the time I wanted a piece to try, he finished his entree already. It's either that good, or I'm just too slow. Teriyaki Beef Dinner Entree: 5/5 For the rest, they ordered ordered the Following to be shared: Tai Carpaccio - it was good on the first bite, but it later became overwhelming sweet. It was left on the table until the very because none of us like it. My husband finally eat it without the sauce and said it was fine. This $18 dish is a total disappointment Tai Carpaccio: 1/5 The spices and batter on the Chicken Kara-Age is very good. Everyone appears to have enjoyed this dish. Chicken Kara-Age: 5/5 We also order the Kanpachi Kama. Most restaurants usually just have the yellow tail version. We never seen this type of fish and the waitress said it was good. It was just ok. the flavor is not bad but it didn't not have much meat so couldn't taste it that much unless you take the whole collar bone and just naw on it.
