This is a relative new restaurant selling quick Chinese Cantonese food. I went because my neighbor wanted to try it. It's very similar to the other quick bite place across from the 7-11 (but now changed to hainan chicken restaurant). I guess the main selling point is the Cantonese wonton dumplings for this restaurant. There really are not many choices but if you come here you kinda know what to expect. The place is surprisingly popular among locals so you often would need to wait a bit. The food is alright but I can't say I'm impressed enough to want to come back. It's just like a McDonald's in that you know what to expect and not much to talk about. I'm not a fan of Cantonese noodles in general as they are not chewy enough and often has that alkali smell and taste. The wonton/dumplings are alright and they are plump enough. I think they are slightly expensive for what you get. The vegetarian goose (mushroom wrapped with tofu skin) is good as it's a common Cantonese dimsum stable. Service is good enough and place is new so fairly comfortable. A solid 3 star I guess.

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty albeit chilly experience. Parking is available in the city owned surface lot behind the restaurant or on nearby streets. Dining is available both indoors or outdoors. The front door was left wide open during lunch making it an awfully chilly experience... Started off with the HK milk tea and it was decent. I've had stronger and smoother tea in HK. The rice noodle rolls with XO sauce was quite tasty. Portions were generous too. The pan fried chives dumplings were tasty. They were made in house and portions were gigantic. The wonton beef brisket wide noodles soup was tasty. The noodles were fresh and the broth was flavorful. Portions were generous too. The wontons were light and plump. The beef brisket and tendons were decent. Cash and credit are the same price.

Solid Hong Kong cafe food! It's so nostalgic to me because I grew up eating Hong Kong cafe food that exactly that tasted like this. The price is decent as well, the quality is good. We went on a weekend night and there was a wait of around 20-30 minutes. They don't have an online waitlist and we went there to put down our names. The food is where it's at. We ordered four dishes and all of them were so delicious. The highlights were definitely the beef curry with rice and the double skinned milk. - Beef curry with rice (5/5): This was so so delicious and it tasted exactly like my childhood beef curry rice. The beef is tender. The curry is flavorful. The rice is a good complement to the curry. One thing I wish it's better is that they have more veggies in the curry. - Pork dumplings (4/5): Super solid and delicious. The dumplings are packed with flavors and filled with pork, just the way I like it. The dumplings are also super big. - XO pan fried rice noodles (4/5): Nothing too surprising, taste pretty decent as expected. It's fried well and the flavor is good. - Dun lai aka double skinned milk (4/5): Great flavor, I would order it again next time I come

Nom Nom Bistro was open on Easter Sunday evening, so we decided to try them out. When we got there, we put our name down on the waitlist. It took about 20 minutes for the 4 of us to be seated. Casual cafe style type of spot. The waitstaff that took our order was friendly and efficient. ***OUR PICKS*** BEEF BRISKET AND TENDON WONTON NOODLE SOUP ~ beef brisket and tendons with wontons (4) and a choice of noodles. I chose the thick flat egg noodles. Tendon and stew meat was soft and cooked well. Wontons had nice shrimp filling. Though the noodles could have been less cooked. It wasn't overcooked, yet it wasn't "crispy" and quickly blanched like some I've had. I think it's because it's paper thin that it's difficult to get that texture with those noodles. Still enjoyable! 4/5 CURRY BEEF BRISKET AND TENDON RICE ~ slow braised beef brisket and tendon in curry with potatoes and carrots. The person who had this dish said the curry wasn't at all spicy nor that flavorful. The menu had a chili pepper to indicate that it would be spicy, but it wasn't. Meat was good and tender and they gave a generous helping of rice. But he probably wouldn't order it again. 3.5/5 RED BEAN CURD PORK TROTTERS WITH THICK FLAT DRY NOODLES ~ tender pork trotters slowly braised in fermented red bean curd with a choice of noodles or rice. My guy ordered this and felt the same about the noodles. It was slightly more cooked than he would have liked. Pork trotters were soft and tender, perfectly cooked. Flavor was good too. But my guy was still hungry. He probably needed to order an appetizer along with his entree. 4/5 SILKIE CHICKEN SOUP WITH GINSENG ~ my daughter had this because she wasn't too hungry. She said it's your typical herbal soup, though it wasn't tasty and plated nicely. 4/5 PUFF PASTRY EGG TARTS ~ we all wanted this though thinking about it, we could have gotten another dessert for a variety. However, we were happy to each have an egg tart to finish off the meal. Not the flakiest crust like phyllo pastry, but it was flaky. Custard was barely sweetened but nice and custard-y! 4.5/5 Overall, it's a solid choice if you want wonton noodle soup. But the menu is limited. My daughter actually wanted soy sauce chow mein, but they ran out! I'm not sure if there's always a wait, but it seems like a popular spot among the Asian crowd. I'd like to come back and try the other tempting desserts like black sesame paste or the double skim milk custard. Others mentioned they were also delicious.

So good! There was a surprising wait at 12p on a Friday, but it moved quickly. Highlights: - turnip cake: texture is so homemade and flavor is fresh - beef noodle soup: beef was tender and noodles are chewy! - black sesame pudding: great flavor (apparently this was viral online?) Would recommend for good casual eats!

Visited here on a cold rainy day and the food hit the spot. Yummy heart warming dishes. Tried the braised beef brisket wonton noodle soup, Zhongshan home style pork meatballs & lettuce congee and for dessert the black sesame paste with osmanthus. The beef brisket in the wonton soup was nice and tender and the soup had a delicious broth, the noodles were cooked perfectly. The congee was also tasty and meatballs were very tender and flavored. The sesame dessert was amazing..I'm a big black sesame fan. You also get hot tea with your meal. The service was amazing and everyone was very kind and welcoming.

Food is good here. My order was a wonton noodles $13.25 and a curry brisket rice $15. The wontons aren't as good as the ones in actual Hong Kong. But it is good for Millbrae standards. These were inconsistent. While good, they can make them great by adjusting the seasoning to include more powdered sesame so that it enhances the natural shrimp taste. Noodles were OK. It would be better if they were more springy. For the curry brisket rice, this dish felt small. The ratio of curry to rice is wrong. Otherwise, the taste seemed OK. I would have preferred no ginger as it wipes out the flavor. Service was great. The kitchen was fast.

Definitely going to return! Been here twice and both times the food has been solid! 100000/5 for the tofu pudding. I haven't found a good tofu pudding in Bay Area for a decade! Super silky and syrup one the side so you can add the sweetness to your liking. 5/5 for the beef brisket noodle soup. Love that they give you a choice of noodles. 4.5/5 chive dumpling. Great flavor. Just wish it was crispy for the pan fried version. 4/5 for sesame paste and HK milk tea. Solid but nothing spectacular. 3.5/5 braise pork belly with rice (not pictured) Pork belly was super tender. Solid just wouldn't order over the beef brisket wonton noodle. 3/5 milk pudding. Very creamy. I would prefer a little more sweetness. Too plain for me. Would be great with topping or flavored with something else. Not for me but I see a lot of people getting this. Service is fine. My first visit had a waitress that was super efficient and proactive. The other workers were great at getting the orders out. On my second visit, the efficient waitress wasn't there. I got ignored trying to check out when I was standing right in front of the cashier even when they helped out other customers. Don't be shy like me when checking out! Speak up if you want something.

A new & delicious Cantonese spot right in the heart of downtown Millbrae! The wonton noodle soup here is absolutely delicious along with their homemade potstickers! Everything here is made to order so it comes out piping hot! Service here is excellent and they are quick and friendly. You order via the QR code at the table and you can order whatever you want through your browser. The wonton noodle soup I had came with wontons that were plump with plenty of filling inside with pork and shrimp. The skin wasn't too thick. The noodles were cooked well and were springy. I came in on a rainy day and it hit the spot. The broth was light and not overly salty. The homemade potstickers were huge when I saw them come out. They were jam packed with filling and delicious. I would easily order them again. Prices were what you expect and similar to other restaurants in the area. The inside of the restaurant has plenty of seating inside with a good amount of tables. You can also order takeout at a separate kiosk when you walk in which is nice. They also have several good looking deserts which I will have to try the next time I'm there. If you are craving a bowl of noodles, you have to come check out this spot and especially if it's raining!

A really damn good bowl of wonton noodle soup. That's what the area has been missing, especially since Fat Wong's kept flip flopping and ultimately closed down. Well, I was craving it one night, and the only place close enough with good reviews was Nom Nom Bistro. We DoorDashed two bowls of wonton noodle soup from here last month. The wonton noodles are really thin here, but I believe if you order direct from the restaurant now, you can request thicker egg noodles. Even though I had to wait to eat (hello parenting eating "shifts"), the broth was still piping hot. The broth was flavorful, clean and not overly salty. The wontons were perfectly shaped, flavorful, and cooked all the way through; let's face it a lot of restaurants will have wontons that don't seem all the way boiled through, well you don't need to worry about that here. Nom Nom also doesn't skimp on the amount of shrimps in the wontons, and they give you six wontons. Lastly, the choy had a nice snap to it and just a bit of bitterness. The whole bowl was so comforting! My husband just wished there was a teeny more contents in the bowl. We also easily placed an order directly through them online and picked it up last Sunday, shortly after opening. Come early though, as when I picked up my around about 45 minutes after opening, it was bustling!

Excellent Chinese Food, a hole in the wall, another gem In Millbrae We ordered chicken feet it's blunt so they need to add a little salt but it's good The beef brisket wonton noodle soup is excellent Service is also amazing

Great authentic Cantonese food. The chicken feet are very good. Curry beef rice is also good.

New hongkong street food restaurant at Milbrae. The restaurant is not that big but roomy. It is just for big group you might find a challenge. It was busy when we arrived. You ordered by scanning the qr code. One thing which is interesting is if more than one scan and order even same table, each one will get it own confirmation. In the menu all are Hongkong comfort street food. We ordered wonton noodle soup, wonton noodle with braised beed brisket, pan fry noodle, porridge, curry Fish ball, smashed cucumber and pan fry rice roll. All are yummy. I like the soup which is light. Pan fry rice roll is yummy. The wonton and brisket are good. The noodle is cooked nicely. Fish ball is average. I also like the lemon Ice tea. Overall it was a good lunch with friends and service was good. Pricewise I think a bit high for some dishes.

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

Unlike your typical Chinese Restaurant, this place specializes in Northern China style cuisine, so some of the dining experience may feel reversed. For example, they have a mince noodle that is served cold, but a Tofu Skin that is served hot. The English description are a bit off and they have a variety of frozen buns and other food you can buy to-go (they don't serve the buns at the restaurant). For the less adventurous, their spicy tofu, Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken (breaded and fried crispy) and a dry noodle are good starting point, and for vegetables, their stir fry green beans is good (but best served with some rice). Overall, this place is not bad, but wish their menu was more accurate in the description/content to meet customer's expectations.

For those that like the Szechuan tingling feeling, the chicken in explosive chilis was also quite good. We had also given the string beans, green onion pancake, and pork and shrimp dumplings a shot and all of them hit the spot. I'm usually a huge fan of braised beef noodle soup so decided to get that here too. It wasn't the same as if I had gotten this dish at a Taiwanese restaurant; compared to the strong flavors of the other dishes, this one was pretty mild. So it's something I would skip next time I come, but every other dish was on point. Our waitress was also great at taking care of us, bring out our food quickly and helping us to clear the other plates. Even after we finished our meal and overstayed our welcome by continuing to chat, the staff didn't make us feel rushed to leave.

Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.
