We had not planned on eating here but last-minute decided to dine here given this was our only option in the vicinity. But I'm not upset at all about this impromptu decision as we had a great meal here. Our table of 6 ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. the most notable items for me were the spicy wontons and fish in chili oil. The dishes were spicy but not so much so that you couldn't enjoy the actual flavors of the dish. For those that like the Szechuan tingling feeling, the chicken in explosive chilis was also quite good. We had also given the string beans, green onion pancake, and pork and shrimp dumplings a shot and all of them hit the spot. I'm usually a huge fan of braised beef noodle soup so decided to get that here too. It wasn't the same as if I had gotten this dish at a Taiwanese restaurant; compared to the strong flavors of the other dishes, this one was pretty mild. So it's something I would skip next time I come, but every other dish was on point. Our waitress was also great at taking care of us, bring out our food quickly and helping us to clear the other plates. Came here recently for a late lunch while I was in the area. Wanted to try a new place and was craving Chinese food so came here after finding it on Yelp. It was not too busy when we came and were seated immediately. The menu had a good selection but we decided on 3 items: the braised beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodles and eggplant with garlic sauce. The standout was the eggplant with garlic sauce. It came out in a hot bowl and was cut thinner than usual, which I enjoyed as each piece had more of the sauce on it. The sauce was also super flavorful. The Dan Dan noodles came out and were soupier than expected. I am used to the drier sauces with more of a mala flavor but the Dan Dan noodles were not that spicy, which made it taste more like a noodle soup than a dan dan noodle. The braised beef noodle soup I was really looking forward to as there were alot of good reviews. However, the beef broth was rather sweet and the beef wasn't as tender as the usual beef noodle soup at my go to places. It was sadly our least favorite of the 3 items. read more

My friends like to get dumplings for takeout from this place so I decided to try Tasty Place for the first time. Jean who answered the phone was nice and took my order over the phone. She recommended their house dumpling (fish and chive) that she said got them in the Michelin guide so I ordered that along with many items marked as popular on their website. I liked their various dumplings, Old Beijing Zha Jiang Mian. hot and sour soup, mapo tofu (it's spicy), eggplant garlic sauce, and fish with flaming chili oil. Kung pao chicken and broccoli beef were decent too. The lao ma won ton comes in a numbing spicy sauce and was good, but it needs to be eaten right away because the won ton wrappers break when they're in the sauce for too long. I saw they had two websites and she said spicyhome520.com is their current website which takes online orders. The older website had an offer for free wang lao ji herbal tea if you spend over a certain amount which she honored. She gave us 4 cans of herbal tea for free, free eggrolls, and increased the portion of the hot and sour soup for us which normally feeds 2. I thought this place was decent, maybe 3.5-4 stars or so. We had three dishes: -Dan Dan noodles was really good. Noodles were on the thicker side and I really really liked the sauce they had here. It actually paired really well with the wontons that were a little bland. The dish overall wasn't too spicy. I would definitely get this again. -Spicy wontons. I thought this one was a little bland. I had to add some soy sauce and extra chili oil and then it tasted decent. Then I also tried the dan dan noodles sauce with them and that elevated it a lot! -tender beef flaming pot was ok. One of my favorite places to get dumplings is at Tasty Place. The restaurant is small but cozy. Workers are very friendly with great services. My husband and I used to come here often when we lived in Millbrae. Our favorite is their house salad and the fish dumplings. They used to give free shredded potato on the side, which brought my husband back to his childhood when his grandma used to make it. Fast forward a few years into the pandemic, we decided to order Tasty Place for takeout on Chinese New Year since my husband grew up eating dumplings on CNY. Of course, we ordered the same items: house salad (spicy one this time), fish dumplings, pork and cabbage dumplings, the shredded potato, and the potstickers. Everything is as good as we remembered. The host/server is extremely polite. The restaurant is packed even though at that time, it should have been closed for the worker's break time. The lady ended up giving me a promotional card (stamp card) so we can get a free bag of frozen dumplings after we order the required amount of dumplings. So nice! In terms of food, everything is spot on. Definitely try the non-spicy house salad for a better flavor and the fish dumplings: very juicy, even juicier and sweeter than the pork and cabbage one. Found the best Chongqing Wanzhou grilled fish in the Bay Area at Millbrae! After work, I wanted to find a Sichuan restaurant to hang out with friends. I hadn't had grilled fish in a while, so we decided to try Tasty Place in Millbrae. Even on a Monday night, the place was packed. The food was absolutely amazing and authentic! I heard the owner used to be a Sichuan chef in China, and the prices are very reasonable, perfect for a small gathering with friends. Highly Recommend: Chongqing Wanzhou Grilled Fish: A whole fish enough for four people. It's fresh, fried, and then boiled, with a perfect blend of spicy and numbing flavors. The seasoning enhances the fish's natural taste, and the veggies that come with it are delicious too. You'll definitely need a lot of rice with this dish! Spicy Pork Kidney: Tender and tasty with a sweet and spicy flavor, served sizzling hot. Highly recommended! Dry Pot Cabbage: Simple appearance but surprisingly delicious. The cabbage is sweet and the basic seasoning is incredible. You'll want more after the first bite! I previously really liked Tasty Place but our most recent visit was disappointing. I really liked their cold sesame noodle dish, but they've since taken that off the menu. We got some dumplings, a soup noodle, and a bean paste noodle. The dumplings were fine, the soup noodle lacked flavor, and the bean paste noodle was also a bit clumpy and flavorless. Service was fine, but we were the only ones in the restaurant for our entire meal. They also didn't receive any take out orders either. This place is by far one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Peninsula area. This location is low key but well known. My wife and I had a great experience during our lunch session yesterday. We loved the Mongolian Beef!! The meat is cooked tender and literally breaks apart with the first chew. The onions are sweet and there's just enough red chili peppers; it wasn't overwhelming with heat. My wife is a huge fan of this dish. I loved the House Noodle Soup; this basically tasted like a deconstructed dumpling but in a noodle soup form. The ginger and onion with chive flavor just kept coming. The broth is delicious and has a slight nice chili oily taste. The noodles were soft and almost had the consistency of Soba noodles. We enjoyed their shrimp & chive & pork pan fried dumplings. Wow the food is great. Such a surprise find. This restaurant is very close to another Sichuan restaurant and it's right next to a bbq restaurant so make sure you are going to the correct entrance. I recall coming to this place when I meant to go to the Sichuan restaurant so I left last time and I think it was a mistake to try this restaurant only after so many years. This restaurant is amazing. I don't know whether this changed owners but wow the food tastes so good. It's probably my favorite Chinese spicy food restaurant in the Peninsula now. The food portions are small but the prices reflect that and it's nice to see prices didn't go crazy for once. Even the way the ingredients are chopped can tell that the ones in the kitchen paid attention because the pieces are cut properly as opposed to other Chinese restaurants such as Wonderful (they should train the kitchen helper who to chop stuff there). Everything we ordered tastes great. I liked the frog dry pot. I also liked the spicy fish. The pork liver also is tender and flavorful. I really can't find any fault in terms of food here other than maybe presentation but who cares when they taste good. Even white rice tastes good and goes well with spicy food. My photos show the spicy wontons(not spicy though), Taiwanese beef rolls/beef pancake, a sweet/sour fatty pork soup, sea bass + tofu clay pot, pork and cabbage dumplings, and basil eggplant. I didn't love the spicy wontons much since they were spicy at all and the wontons themselves were small and not very stuffed with meat or veggies. I liked the pork and cabbage dumplings though. The beef rolls were good, but there are definitely a lot of places with better beef rolls. It wouldn't be fair to compare Tasty Place's beef rolls to other places since it's not their specialty though. I did really enjoy the pork soup. Besides pork inside it, there's also the thin, clear noddles called 米粉/mi fen inside so it's actually quite filling. The soup was a good consistency as well. The noodles are a bit chewy of a texture so even after you take it home as leftovers, it won't be too soggy the next day. I was disappointed with the sea bass tofu clay pot, I must say. I really love sea bass but this particular dish didn't have much fish at all. It was mostly tofu, which luckily I love too. The name should be changed to Tofu with sea bass, since clearly the main dish is 85% tofu with just a few pieces of fish on top(I believe there were 4 pieces). Next time I'd order fish from the chefs specialty section for sure. The eggplant basil I fully enjoyed. I love eggplant and I order it very often in restaurants. Tasty Place. This place is quite tasty indeed! We ordered - beef noodle soup - spicy wontons - dragon eggplant - baby crab (soft shell crab) - fried 3/4 dishes were DEFINITELY above average. We would be happy to come again to try more items and to order the soft shell crab again. OMG. So. Damn. Good. I think I also want to try the five color eggplant next time based on the pics and based on how good our eggplant dish was. Beef noodle soup - serving was HEAPING and they gave what seemed like two servings of noodles in one bowl lol. Plenty of very tender beef pieces. For a restaurant that doesn't specialize in this, it was actually still very good and above average. Spicy wonton - just ok. The skin was thin but seemed like it had hardened (maybe cooked from frozen) and filling-wise wasn't as bouncy or shrimpy as I would have liked from a wonton Dragon eggplant - SO DELICIOUS, we gobbled this one up quick mostly because this was really only ONE eggplant that was cut up intricately and shaped into a dragon. Super cool and highly skillful but I wish it came with more. On the pricey side at $21 but shows their cooking prowess. They call it baby crab here and it was like mini fried soft shell crabs. Perfectly salted and fried. My kids loved this (unfortunately) which meant us adults had only 1-2 pieces lol. We decided to visit Tasty place when we were in the area and craving authentic Asian food. Unlike some of the other areas in Millbrae, it was easier to find parking around this restaurant. Ambiance was down to earth and homey. Service was timely and thoughtful. As soon as we stepped in, we were attended to and seated. They weren't pushy and didn't make us feel like we must rush to order. We ordered green onion pancakes, general tsao chicken, and house special tofu with white steamed rice. Onion pancakes 3.5/5 - pancakes themselves were perfectly fine and tasty but tasted dry as they were not served with any side of sauce. In my experience, most restaurants provide a side of sweet chili sauce which really elevates the experience. General tsao chicken - 3.5/5 - I'm a vegetarian, so I had to rely on my partner's review. He said the chicken was good and tasty but this wasn't the best general tsao chicken he has had. Because it's his go to dish, I ask him to rate it at every restaurant. House special tofu - 5/5 - tofu was incredibly good, perhaps one of the most flavorful tofu dishes I've ever had. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area! Their noodle soups, dumplings, and wontons are packed with tons of flavor. The noodle soup portions are very generous for the price, I always have leftovers to take home. I also like that the noodles are thick and slightly chewy, so they don't get soggy the next day. My favorite noodles are the dan dan noodles and braised beef noodles. My friend said that the noodles with the pickled mustard greens was also delicious, with a strong ginger broth. I've gone to Tasty Place a couple times and I had a solid experience each time. It is definitely worth coming here if you are looking for authentic Chinese food and their noodles are handmade which is a plus. What stood out to me the most was how clean this restaurant was. The soy sauce containers to the windows were pretty much spotless. The ladies working there also provided great customer service although one time I went, some vegetarian customers came in asking about vegetarian items on the menu and the waitresses seemed a bit confused and didn't know how to help them which was a bit odd. Regardless, I have yet to have a bad experience personally. Food wise most of their items are pretty solid. Their Zha-Jiang-Mian which was at a solid price of $11.99 and Eggplant with Ground Pork and Garlic are easily my favorites although it costed $16.99. You can't go wrong with their dumplings either. Definitely avoid the Americanized type of dishes like the General Tao's Chicken. It was kinda odd and almost tasted like orange chicken. Also avoid the Braised Tofu if you don't like MSG bombs because they put A LOT of MSG in it. It's certainly bold to call a restaurant Tasty Place, but a lot of the dishes really are tasty. There might be some misses in my opinion, but I've been satisfied with a majority of their items. The service and atmosphere are definitely the biggest standouts for me because you don't always get that type of welcoming service at every Chinese restaurant or have the same level of attention to detail in cleanliness. ZhaJiangMian: The handmade noodles are nice and springy and topped with an excellent ground pork-based black bean sauce. Honey Walnut Shrimp: What can I say, this super decadent dish is deep fried battered shrimp coated in mayonnaise with candied walnuts. I don't think I've ever met a honey walnut shrimp I didn't like. Our roommate got the vegetarian dumplings which were also good. You get 2 additional dumplings when you get them boiled rather than fried or in soup.
