Never wanted to write a review so quickly after having the meal! Mainly because we got A+ service from our server, who was absolutely sweet, accommodating, and great with kids. Upon getting seated, she asked if we wanted a plastic water cup, regular bowl, and plastic utensils for my toddler. I highly prefer being environmentally friendly, so I only opted for the reusable bowl. I truly appreciate her asking me before automatically bringing everything. I ordered the Pho Tai Gau (rare steak and brisket) with thin pho noodles, split bowl with extra noodles to share with my toddler. The meat is super thin and tender! Although we ordered "extra" noodles, it didn't feel like extra compared to a normal bowl, but my toddler wanted more soup than noodles so it worked out. We also got the imperial rolls appetizer. It was tasty but I felt like it was a bit overdone, because it hurt the roof of my mouth haha, but I do prefer it to be crispy than soggy so I'm not complaining! Just be aware :) Nowadays, my best eating out meals are those in which my toddler enjoyed and allowed her to be on her best behavior. Our server checked up on us multiple times (never had to flag her down) and took great care of us. My toddler even let her pick her up! So thank you for the great service!
Originally wanted the lemongrass beef bun bo hue, but it wasn't available so we had the garlic noodles with chicken for takeout to go to instead, and it was not bad, there was plenty of garlic flavor within the noodles, and the chicken was not too dry. There's also veggies that come with it on the side. The online order was quick and service was efficient, and plenty of utensils and napkins provided. We asked for extra fish sauce too which they were able to accomodate. It seems like the menu has a lot of options but frequently will have items that are unavailable, and this is the only negative, but otherwise I would be down to come back and try some of the other food on the menu.
First time at pho de nguyen and it did not disappoint! We were greeted warmly by our server Cat who recommended we try the oxtail or duck or the appetizer sampler. We decided on the oxtail pho w the appetizer sampler...and we loved it! The sampler had sticky wings (double fried with a fish sauce marinade), spring rolls, imperial rolls, shrimp rolls and duck skin chips allowed us to try a bunch of things and the oxtail pho had a rich broth and tender delicious beef. Also loved the pandan tea and the sugarcane juice. We will definitely be back!
I know this place is very popular, but the pho wasn't my favorite unfortunately! Portion sizes are smaller than typical pho places. (I missed the usual big white bowls! Haha) The meat was okay. Meatballs seemed housemade and were yummy! Pho soup was okay....not flavorful enough for me tbh. Noodles were overcooked sadly :( The imperial rolls were pretty oily unfortunately too. Good flavor, but I definitely prefer smaller, tightly-wrapped imperial rolls. Also the sauce needed more lemon! Service was still great and suoer friendly. Inside has plenty of seating and is spacious. Overall the meal was still good, just not my favorite pho place...
Amazing service here throughout the night. The server checked in on us often to make sure we were all good. She offered us to try their oxtail broth that was simmered for 100 hours and it was deliciously savory. I got the special combo beef pho and the beef was super tender. I could tell many others in the restaurant were regulars. Great local pho spot!
Came here on a Tuesday night at 7pm. Place was pretty empty! Found parking right away. Scan QR code to see menu and ordered on phone. I got beef pho 3/5 (broth wasn't super flavorful), docked off a point since my noodles were slightly overcooked. As for appetizers we got shrimp rolls 4/5 and salt & pepper wings 3/5. Our waitress was very friendly! Food came out pretty quick. Bill came out to be $75 with tips included. Would come back again if I'm in the area!
We were really hungover and this was perfect. came here on a Sunday around 12 and it was pretty packed but we were seated immediately. Parking around the area is pretty easy on the street. Here's what we got: Pho ga: 10/10 chicken was soft (not dry at all) and the fresh noodles were so tasty Pho dac biet: 9/10 just yummy overall Chicken wings: 10/10 fried and flavored really well
Early dinner so Pho de Nguyen was pretty empty and the 6 of us were able to get a table right away. Parking in the area wasn't hard but with the metered street parking enforced until 8:00 pm, be sure to set a timer to remind yourself. The menu is a QR code menu and the waitress helped us but suggested we order on 1 phone which means when you go to pay the person with the order on their phone gets the bill. The restaurant was cozy and welcoming, great service and fast. Most of the dishes were tasty and very good. We especially enjoyed the Oxtails Pho Dec Biet and the Duck Bun Bo. Excellent food, authentic ambiance and top notch service. A great choice for Vietnamese cuisine lovers.
PHO DE NGUYEN in San Bruno at 586-A San Mateo Avenue is a neighborhood favorite for Phở and its clean, MSG-free, real deal 100-hour simmered bone broth w/star anise and cinnamon. Parking in the area is controversial with its new metered street parking with aggressive and extended in-force ticketing until 8PM. Set a timer and you're fine. PDN's dark but somehow warm and cozy decor exuded a calmness that was surprising. Amy greeted, and was welcoming, upon entering at the start of their 4:00PM dinner hour. Seated right away, opting for hot tea. Their beef Phở is their signature but I spied something I don't see often in Phở places. Ordered via QR code: OXTAIL PHÓ' DAC BIET! Beef oxtail in the in their famous long simmered broth, sliced beef, thinly sliced onions, rice noodles. Added side garnishes of basil, bean sprouts, jalapeños and squeeze of lime wedge. You can amp the broth up with Sriracha, hoisin and/or chili crisp but this was perfect for me. I will return for this alone! Next time I might try the OXTAIL PHÓ', which is broth and oxtails only. AND add extra oxtail ($10)!!! FRESH SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS - freshly made with shrimp, vermicelli, herbs and greens with accompanying peanut sauce. A definite order on next visit. I was disappointed to find PDN had discontinued their Bone Marrow Toast that I had seen in earlier reviews. Hopefully they'll put that back in, even for a limited time, I'm there! Loved PHO DR NGUYEN'S clean, bone both and will be back! Will look forward to trying their GARLC NOODLES W/ROAST DUCK, BÚN THIT NUONG, BÚN BO HUE, COM THIT NUONG, and more! They also have fresh pressed sugar cane juice. See you there! P.S. PDN also has a second location in San Francisco's SOMA on 6th Street. Saw this place on Instagram and knew I had to check it out! We came around 11am on a Sunday and there was no wait, although the restaurant started getting more packed once it approached noon. We ordered the crispy duck Bun Bo Hue and Oxtail Combo Pho, along with a sugarcane juice. The server recommended we try it with mango and calamansi, which was a very refreshing combination. The flavor of the pho was good and not too heavy. They also provided a lot of meat, although there was only one piece of oxtail in my pho unfortunately. The crispy duck was served on the side of the duck bun bo hue and the meat was deboned and cut up. The service was fantastic though since I had ordered pho with thin noodles originally, but was mistakenly given fresh noodles. I was promptly made a new bowl of pho and given the mistaken order to go at no charge. Definitely will visit again if I am looking for a pho spot in San Bruno.
Arrived around 11:40am on a sunday and they had a fair number of people inside with a couple reserved tables. It was a cold day and it was even colder inside lol. You order by scanning a QR code and pay at the end. It took a bit long to get the food, but service was good. Oxtail pho dac biet - 3/5, meat was super tender, soup was okay. Noodles were a tiny bit overcooked, but still good. The amount of meat could be better. The oxtail special pho is $1 extra than normal and they give 3 tiny pieces of oxtail. I think they do their meat very well. Not awful but not amazing-- decent
Dropped in for lunch on a weekday a little before noon. Only two other tables occupied. There was a staff of 2 but minimal interactions during the ordering process - like ordering is done via a QR code and utensils and napkins are in a caddy in the table. Staff was friendly but they were there more for directing people to a table, bringing food to the table, and bringing you the check - which in my case, took a while and I had to remind them a couple times to bring the check. My food came out relatively quickly. I ordered the bun bo hue. It was different from the more traditional bbh in that the toppings and noodles are different. It was still tasty so I didn't mind. I'd say the quality of food is good for pho and I'd come back.
Our usual pho place was closed and we were in the area so decided to check out Pho de Nguyen based on the reviews. Found nearby street parking and walked in. Wasn't busy at all around noon on a weekday. Maybe 2-3 other tables. Server told us to sit anywhere that wasn't reserved and pour us water right away. They utilize a QR code menu and ordering system. We ended up ordering a Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Thai Tea, Oxtail Pho Dac Biet and Rare Steak & Brisket Pho with the regular noodles (there were different options). Side note: I was surprised the pho dac biet didn't include tripe or tendon. The drinks and pho garnishes came out shortly after. We ended up waiting almost 30 min for our soups to come out, which is crazy. Whole time no one came to check on us. In my head I was like, did our order go through? But it did since we got our drinks and bean sprouts/ mint/ jalapeños/ lemon. We knew something was up when a couple who came after us got their food before us. I was ready to up and leave since I was getting hangry but we got up to ask them if our orders were almost ready. Apparently they were having printing issues and it didn't print in the kitchen? They apologized and one of the servers says, "I was wondering why you guys weren't eating yet" lol. They offered a free iced coffee to make up for it. Was hoping the pho was going to be worth the wait but it did not hit the spot. Couldn't get past how dry and crumbly the brisket was. Wasn't feeling the texture of the noodles and the broth didn't save it either. There was a big portion of meat but couldn't bring myself to finish it or take it home.

I had a pretty awesome experience here at Pho de Nguyen. The service was great. A very friendly staff who steadily checked in on me if I was ok or needed anything. Customary at most Vietnamese restaurants, you get your food with minimal check ins and not even a plate clearing until the bill comes. This was NOT the case here. There service was definitely in the A/A+ range! I ordered on my phone via QR code, but there was an option to order in person from a server. I ordered many items to try out. I ordered spring rolls, crispy salt and pepper wings, grilled pork banh mi, beef dac beit pho, and a Thai iced tea. Thai Iced Tea was pretty good. Grade: A I thought the Spring Rolls were decent, but what made them even better was the peanut sauce! I always hate when the peanut sauce is watery and this was far from that! An excellent gooey peanut sauce and maybe one of the best I've had fpr consistency. Grade: A- Crispy salt and pepper wings definitely had an incredible crunch. They were up there in crunchiness. The drumettes were meaty which I appreciated. They were well seasoned also. I think I need to try their other wings before crowning these, but some of the cruncheist wings I've had for sure. Grade: A- Beef Dac Biet Pho had some real high quality meat in it. I had options in noodle and my go-to for any pho spot is the egg noodles. I wish it had more bo vien in it, but I appreciated the combo of meats. The broth seemed authentic, but I wanted a tad more flavor out of it without adding sauces. Overall, the pho grade was a B+ bordering an A-. The star of the show was the grilled pork banh mi. The meat was tender and saucy. In fairness I asked for extra pickles and mayo, but I was very impressed. The bread had the crispy crunch we all look for but minus the stale bread. The breads soft yet crispness made it seem as if it just came out of the oven! I'm going to dub this as the best I've had in the Bay Area! There I said it! Grade: A+ Everyone who ordered the sampler seemed very pleased at other tables, I would definitely try that. Also, want to try the other banh mis and noodle options for the pho. There was a nice vibe at this place. I didn't feel rushed although they do close fairly early at 8pm. The server's mom is the one cooking in the kitchen and I appreciated the family feeling at this place. They do have a newer location in San Francisco that has a DJ Friday nights that I may check out. I believe the server said that they are open til 2am on most nights, but I may have misheard her. Feel free to Yelp that location. My only disappointment was that I really love papaya salad and it was not an option. I may make this my go-to spot from now on, but as a Yelper, we all know we will keep trying new places. As our search continues for great pho closer to home than San Jose, we decided to try Pho de Nguyen today. Overall, the meal was okay. We can't really complain, but it also wasn't memorable enough for us to come back. The broth was decent, but if you're a pho lover, you know the broth is what makes or breaks the experience and this one just didn't stand out. After lunch we went grocery shopping, and that's when things took a turn. My husband suddenly started sweating, and my stomach began making all kinds of unhappy noises. We hadn't eaten anything else that day, so we suspect something from the meal didn't sit well with either of us. That said, we can't say for certain that the restaurant was the cause. The restaurant itself looked clean, and the service was perfectly fine. Unfortunately, between the average broth and how we both felt afterward, it's just not a place we'll be returning to. read more

Came in on a cold weekday and this was just what I needed. The appetizer sampler was full of flavor and variety. As always, their broth is so tasty and the entree portions are very generous. The owners are very friendly and struck up a chat with our table. I found out that they have another location in SF. Their Vietnamese ice coffee is premade in individual cups, I was expecting the more traditional style. Nonetheless, it tastes amazing and comes out a lot quicker! I would definitely recommend this spot as a quick meal, especially when it's a little chilly out. read more

Solid Vietnamese food spot in San Bruno that we visited for lunch. We ordered the beef and oxtail pho and the chicken pho. Of the two, recommend sticking with the beef pho options here. The imperial rolls and the salt and chicken wings were also pretty good. The iced Vietnamese coffee was a refreshing accompaniment to the meal. The restaurant itself is really cozy and welcoming and service was fast. The place seems quite popular and worth the visit if you are in the area. Street parking was pretty easy to find as well. read more

Stopped here for lunch with the Hubz. We order the Bun Bo Hue with Duck Confit and the Ox Tail Pho Dac Biet. Location is not to big/too small. We got seated roght away. We happened to come on a day their wifi was down, so it was cash/zelle only. Haha. Thats crazy. Luckily that did not stop us from dining in. I loved the duck confit, it was cooked so well and the duck slices were so jucy even though it seemed like a small portion of meat to pair with your noodle. It was the perfect portion after all. I enjoyed the BBH, though it is different from what I am used to. I enjoyed the oxtail, it fell right off the bone. My Hubz enjoyed his Pho Dac Biet as well. Though we wish the broth was hotter. There was plenty of meat and oxtail in his bowl. Would we come again, yes! read more

Very generous portion for the price! I ordered the pho tai w/ thick noodles & even though there's only one size, it felt like a large so definitely worth your buck !! Service was fast & attentive & next door they co own with sugarcane HQ & the passion fruit sugar cane drink was super yummy. Overall great meal & service was good, would come back again :) read more
One of my favorite pho spots! Every we get here is consistently delicious, and at a good price point too. The spot is in the business area of San Bruno, so there's lots of metered street parking. They sometimes get busy during weekend dinners (especially in winter time!) And you have to write your name on a list. Seating is casual and you order on your phone after scanning. Some of my favorite things here are: the bun bo hue (perfect level of spice), roast duck, and beef carpaccio. Definitely try this place out if you're craving some noodle soup, you wont be disappointed! read more

Wanted to try the bun Bo hue. It's interesting that you can change the noodles to fresh pho noodle, thin pho noodles, egg noodles or thin vermicelli. As a Vietnamese I was expecting the BBH broth to be rich in beef and lemongrass flavor. The soup was good but it didn't remind me of a traditional BBH. The chili oil on the side is spicy and good. I do like that there's a lot thin brisket instead of the traditional pork hok and pork blood. I prefer thick vermicelli noodles. I think they are more known for their pho. The place was pretty full when we arrived, but we were seated right away. The worker reminded us that parking is not free and to make sure we pay -- which is a great reminder because it's easy to assume it might be complimentary and grt a surprise parking ticket. Parking in this area is paid 7 days a week unless it's a holiday. Pro tip: it's cheaper to park behind the restaurant than on the street. Ordering is done through a QR code at the table. The system is simple, clear, and easy to use. We ordered the Oxtail Pho, Bún Thịt Nướng, and Pho Tái Gầu. The food came out pretty quickly. Everything was tasty! The oxtail was very tender and flavorful -- definitely the highlight. The pho broth was light and not too salty, very comforting (though it did cool down fairly quickly). The Bún Thịt Nướng was good overall, but the grilled pork was slightly tough -- I wish it had been more tender. Overall, it was a nice lunch. The Oxtail Pho is on the pricier side, but the quality is there. They also prefer cash for gratuity. read more

The garlic noodles itself isn't so great and does not have garlic flavor, rather it tastes more like a chow mein. The pho soup base is good but the noodles were overcooked when served. The oxtail meat was very tender and would recommend! Service 4/5 Usual service at a restaurant, brings you water and bill when you asks for it. Visited Pho de Nguyen with a large party for Friday dinner and the restaurant was quite packed. The interior was very spacious and minimalistic, definitely a great place to grab an everyday meal. The service was pretty good as they were pretty attentive and friendly. I got the combination pho and thought that the broth was one of the better ones I've had in the Bay. The meat was also super tender and the portion size was plentiful. We also got the salt + pepper wings as well as the sticky wings which were both flavorful, though I definitely preferred the sticky wings. The shrimp egg rolls were also really good as it was not too greasy. They do close kind of early but overall this is a really great neighborhood spot that I will be back to! read more

Pho De Nguyen serves some of the best pho soup, with standout dishes like the flavorful Duck Bun Bo Hue and crispy imperial rolls. I love pho and when I came here it made me love it even more. I got the beef pho, basic I know smh, but the broth was very flavorful with very tender beef that melts. And honestly, I wouldn't think that beef from pho would melt, BUT IT DID. You have to order on your phone which makes it really easy. The workers are also very good and attentive. Why 4 star instead of 5? The music. It made me feel so sad, like funeral music. Sad and sleepy is not a good combo when eating pho. 5/5 experience, food, service. Got this recommendation from a co worker so had to give it a shot. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. The server made the experience 100x better. I think this may be my favorite pho place in the area. For reference, we drove in from Sunnyvale and would definitely make the drive again. Next time I def want to try the duck BBH! read more
Vietnamese music ablazing and fish sauce, Thai chili sauce, hot pepper flakes + your standard hoisin and sriracha condiments with oxtail pho? Sign me up. Scan and order online and staff will come by with a credit card machine or you can choose to pay with cash when you are close to done. I ordered the oxtail pho and enjoyed the hearty soup. I liked that the brisket was more on the fatter side. The oxtails were more the ends and on the smaller side, but the beef itself tasted more premium on the lean/fatty side if that makes sense. Seats about 14 tables and modern. Staff are friendly. The owner greeted everyone with his daughter and she was so cute. He mentioned they also have a SF location run by his wife. Came here with one of our business partner mainly because the other restaurants of my pick was closed. It was a big mistake. Never in my life I got so embarrassed because of such a terrible food. Both of us ordered pho and chicken wings. The pho was so full of msg and tasted like an instant pho. It was one of the worst pho I have ever had in the bay area actually. The meat was overcooked and smelled too. The chicken wings was the absolute disgusting dish that no one should ever ordered. I feel like it should not even pass the health standard because I was almost certain the chicken was rotten or something. It smelled putrid. They tried to cover it with a boatload of fish sauce but the meat itself is just... old and freezer burnt. Someone from the health dept should probably check on them because there is no way this restaurant handled those meat properly. Safe to say I was embarrassed enough with my business partner, glad she was understanding, but I will never go back in this lifetime and would advise others not to. read more
Food: 4 out 5 stars for my lobster and shrimp pho ++++it was good, perfectly cooked but there was too much salt in mine. It was $30! Yikes ! I guess not too bad with this inflation. My daughter had the chicken pho 5 out of 5 stars+++++, that hit the spot, the broth, mmmHmmm. It wasn't as salty and I could tell it was boiled from chicken bones for several days. I recommend the chicken pho for $15. Service: 5 out of 5. +++++ They immediately gave us water, and catered to kids with a cup of water with a straw, a plastic spoon, knife and utensils. Ambiance: I loved the atmosphere, they had spoons and bowls on the wall from Vietnam. Also, very clean too for Asian restaurants, yaddamean aka you know what I mean ? I don't come to San Bruno Ave in San Bruno often, but definitely underrated spot for pho. Free street parking, beats going all the way down to the expensive city. read more
The restaurant is a bit close to the Starbucks on San Mateo Ave in case you're looking for parking. Went for dinner on a Sunday around 6pm, and still quite a bit of seats were available. I was greeted by the kind staff as soon as I walked in the door, and was allowed to take any seat I wanted. It's a nice clean-looking restaurant. If you sit a bit closer to the kitchen door you can see the cooks preparing food in the back, and looked well-kept from the outside looking in. I ordered the fried chicken wings and Bun bo Hue(spicy) soup(just the right amount of spice and I'm spice-sensitive), and by accident I got someone else's rare beef and beef ball pho. Not wanting to cause any trouble, I just started having at the pho I was served, and was not going to complain because it was really delicious and I would be willing to pay for it anyway if my actual order was not coming - broth was tasty and beef and beef balls and noodles were great! Then like a quarter into finishing my bowl, my fried chicken wings came in and they were good too, and staff brought my original order the BBH(Bun bo Hue) as well and told me since they made a mistake my BBH was free, which I thought was amazing because it became my dinner the following day. I was thinking, well I'm glad I didn't complain and just appreciated what was given by these kind staff! And look what happened! The woman who works there was so sweet! She even helped me put my left over BBH into 2 separate to-go containers so my noodles stayed intact for reheating the following day. My broth stood alone in the other to-go containers for reheating for the stove at home the next day. Bun bo Hue the next day was amazing, and it was reheated. So just imagine if it was fresh eating right then and there. I would totally order either the rare beef with beef balls pho or the Bun bo Hue again. What is my favorite of the two? It was the Bun bo Hue. If there's anything that could be improved at all, it could be serving the broth even more warmer than it was. It was definitely served hot, but maybe since it was a colder day when I was eating it, it cooled down faster? I will be back to Pho de Nguyen, and recommend this great Vietnamese restaurant! read more
