    Imperial Rolls Cha Gio
    Elayna N.

We used to come eat here a lot. I'm not sure why we stopped but decided to try take out. Seems like quality has gone down so I'd be very particular about what I order the next time. Most of everything was pretty overcooked/dry but some of the meats had really good flavor. Even the rice was super dry. I would say stick to the grilled meats like the grilled beef and the pork chops. The egg rolls were also delicious. Do not get the lemongrass chicken. Didn't taste anything like lemongrass and was super dry. We also got a braised catfish which was alright but missed that sweet tang Vietnamese braised meats usually have. The five spice chicken was also alright, needed more umami. Overall, you can consider trying this place but I don't know that I necessarily would come back.

Always love coming here. Mom and pop shops are my absolute favorite! They are sweet and diligent. Service is kind and clean. The food always hits home and the imperial rolls are definitely like home. Crunchy and flavorful. Wrap them the traditional way with the lettuce and noodles and its delicious got the pho today but always love the Bo Kho and Bun bo hue!

(#24-C) Special Combination Beef Noodle Soup (Pho Xe Lua) with Beef Slices, Beef Balls, Tendon, and Tripe

Years ago, back when one of our family friends put Le Petite Camille on my radar for the very first time, I remember hearing pretty good things about this place. Nothing to the level that would suggest the food was amazing, but certainly that it was pretty good. In the years since, though? I haven't heard much of anything, other than those same relatives mentioning that the food here isn't as impressive as it used to be. Which, oddly, isn't the worst thing because now that I've been here myself, I might have started to question their tastebuds! Even though my go-to spot for pho in Millbrae, Ben Tre, is right across the street, we opted to come here instead both of curiosity and sheer convenience (love that they have their own parking lot). Inside, the restaurant is surprisingly big and even have a couple of long tables for larger groups. As for the menu, it's family-style, with a lot of dishes to be shared, but it didn't see as extensive as I would've guessed. That said, it could be just because they only have a few types of pho to choose from, as it actually has a wide variety of offerings - appetizers, spring rolls, salads, wraps, banh mi, soups/noodle soups, vermicelli bowls, rice plates, stir fried noodles, and a bunch of claypots, entrees, and vegetarian dishes. -- (#1) IMPERIAL ROLLS (Cha Gio) - Deep Fried Rolls with Minced Pork, Carrots, Taro, and Onion...$11 This looked fantastic on the plate, but the imperial rolls were a little uneven. On the plus side, the overall dish is generous in size and the filling was decently flavorful. However, the rolls were barely crisp, let alone crispy, and were actually quite oily. -- (#5) MINCED SHRIMP ON SUGARCANE (Banh Hoi Chao Tom) Served with Lettuce, Vermicelli Noodles, Pickles, Cilantro, and Peanut Sauce or Fish Sauce...$18 To be fair, I've probably been spoiled by the one that my friend's mom makes, but this fell short for me. While I appreciated all of the sides to make lettuce wraps, the shrimp itself was underwhelming - not all that hot, not much char/crispiness to it, and not all that flavorful. -- (#24-C) SPECIAL COMBINATION BEEF NOODLE SOUP (Pho Xe Lua) with Beef Slices, Beef Balls, Tendon, and Tripe...$17 Not bad, but hardly special. I liked that the noodles had a nice bite and that the noodle-to-meat ratio favored the latter. However, despite how it had a decent body to it, the broth didn't have as strong of a beefy flavor as I would've liked. -- (#73) SPECIAL COMBINATION CLAYPOT (Com Tay Cam) - Stir-fried Green Onions, Ginger, Shrimp, Chicken, and Chinese Sausage with Special House Sauce on Jasmine Rice...$16 I was pretty excited for this one, but it was a disappointment. Mainly, it's not a true claypot - it's closer to a rice bowl, as the rice wasn't infused with flavors nor did it develop a crust. The portion also felt a bit light, particularly on chicken, but it did have a lot of sausage. With regards to service, a few of my fellow Yelpers have mentioned that it can move a little slow, but I can't say we ran into the same problem. Almost as soon as we walked in, a worker greeted us, walked us to our table, and then came back about five minutes later to take our order. In fact, we actually had the opposite problem, as our dishes came out suspiciously fast. It makes perfect sense that our pho came out so quickly, but there's no way our claypot would've arrived right after that if they had cooked everything together. However, it would if they just scooped in pre-cooked white rice into a heated claypot and then topped it off. Given how the majority of what they have to offer are family-style dishes, it's entirely possible, if not likely, that we just didn't order the best that Le Petite Camile is known for. In time, perhaps I'll end up coming back again to find out but until then, I can't say anything that I've tried thus far sparks an overwhelming desire to do so.

Haven't been to La Petite Camille in a while. Every time we used to come, it was always crowded. Was close by and wanted my friend to try good authentic Vietnamese food. We ordered: Combination Appetizer to share. Yummy. Authentic .. had to learn to roll fast otherwise the rolls would still be stuck on the plate. We also each ordered:marinated pork clay pot, Vietnamese Bbq pork and beef noodle soup. It turned out to be a lot of food. All was yummy. Would definitely come back again.

This restaurant has sadly gone downhill. The food is mediocre at best. My chicken pho broth lacked any real flavor, and the chicken was pretty tough. The stir fry vegetables were standard. Meanwhile, prices are above average and definitely more than I would pay for what I'm getting. To top it off, our server was sullen and bordered on rude. The setting is old and dingy. There are plenty of other far better Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Go there instead.

    Lauren T.

The BBW beef banh mi was disappointing. The bread was dried out and the beef was tough and crewy. The shredded pickled daikon didn't provide the typical crunch needed in a typical banh mi sandwich. (They should have been julienned for better texture.)

    Menu

My first visit to this Vietnamese restaurant since I was in the area. I forgot to take photos of the actual plate I ordered but was able to snap a few of the menu. I got the vermicelli with pork and imperial rolls. I like that it was a good mix of veggies, meat and the imperial rolls with a decent amount of sauce. The sauce was flavorful, veggies plentiful and a good serving of protein. I think they skimped a bit of the rice noodles, so just a bit more of it would've been perfect. Otherwise, it was a good dish. The service was really good, friendly, and fast. The interior of the restaurant appears clean, menu wasn't a tattered mess, and the sauces were all covered in their respective lids. They also having their own little parking lot. Rating would've been a bit higher if their prices weren't too steep for the portions, but it is Millbrae. Would I come back if I were in the area again? Yea probably if I felt like getting some solid Vietnamese food.

Ambiance: 0/5 Not clean, not friendly. Table not wiped between guests. Water glass with lipstick on it. Food: 2/5 Vegetarian broth is literally hot water. Zero flavor. Basil for soup was not fresh, slimy. Vegetarian imperial rolls were good. No mint, only cilantro. Service: 1/5: quick but not friendly. I tried to get her attention and when we made eye contact she yelled, "what?" Across the room. I just needed some more napkins after using one to clean my cup.

Curious, as I've always bemoaned the general lack of Southeast Asian options around, but, for whatever reason, I would always pass by without a second thought. However, after finding out from one of my old coworkers that this was where she'd go to whenever she had cravings for her childhood favorites, I knew I had to check this place out...and come back to try even more! Ironically enough, while Ipoh's location makes them super convenient to get to (there's lots of street parking around and SamTrans, BART, and Caltrain are all a short walk away), their nondescript appearance can make them easy to miss if you aren't looking. However, inside, this place is great! The vibe is super cozy and they have tables for groups large or small. As for the menu, it's extensive and chock full of options, from staples like Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, Mee Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Char Koay Teow, and Roti Canai. With nearly 70 other appetizers, soups, noodle soups, vegetarian, poultry, seafood, beef, lamb, stir-fried noodle, rice plates, and desserts to choose from, though, that's far from all they have to offer! -- (#A01) ROTI CANAI - Malaysian Crispy Pancake with Curry Sauce I've had this a few times now (and still no photo) and it's been really tasty every time. Definitely worth getting! -- (#NR01) CHAR KOAY TEOW - Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodles with Shrimp, Squid, Bean Sprouts, Chives, Eggs, and Soy Sauce I've had this twice and I'm a bit torn. The first time, it was terrific - the noodles were cooked well, they didn't skimp on the seafood, and the dish was straight up delicious. However, the second time, the noodles were overcooked and the dish felt light on seafood. -- (#NR07) NASI LEMAK - Coconut Rice with Peanuts, Chicken Wings, Hard Boiled Egg, Chicken Curry Acar, Onion, and Chili Paste Ehh...this was just okay. The chicken curry was rich, the chicken wing was crispy and moist, and the rice had a strong coconut flavor. Sadly, though, the rice felt a little grainy/undercooked, the acar was really tart, and I wish the chicken had more curry. -- (#N02) LAKSA MEE - Spicy Red Coconut Curry Soup with Yellow Noodles, Shredded Chicken, and Mixed Vegetables Not the best laksa I've had, but it was one of the better ones and easily one of the heftiest. Not only was there a generous amount of chicken, but there was a ton of veggies in this, too. That said, it did make this feel like it didn't have enough noodles in it. -- (#D1) MALAYSIAN ICED TEA Not quite what I expected, but not bad either. I thought this was going to be more like a regular iced tea, rather than a milk tea, but at least it wasn't overly sweet nor overly milky. -- (#P01) HAINANESE CHICKEN with Chili Ginger Sauce A bit different from Chinese Hainan Chicken, but I liked this a lot. The chicken felt meatier, was far more tender, and it didn't have a bunch of bones. I also liked that they drizzled on some soy, but it did make it a little on the salty side. -- (#V03) STRING BEANS BELACHAN - Sauteed Green Beans with Garlic, Onions, and Malaysian Shrimp Paste Sauce To be honest, this was pretty unremarkable. On the plus side, the sauce on this was good and the string beans weren't overcooked. On the other hand, the string beans could've been blistered more and could've used more of the sauce. -- (#BL03) BEEF IN GREEN CURRY with Potatoes, Eggplant, Okra, and Green Beans Other than the choice of meat (I would've preferred chicken), this was great! While I wish the curry had been richer/creamier, it tasted spot on, there was a fair amount of beef, and it was loaded with veggies. Beyond the food, service here is pretty good as well. The workers are all really nice and happy to offer suggestions/help with the menu, the kitchen gets dishes out relatively fast, and I love that they don't really try to rush people to leave even at the end of the night. Since there just don't seem to be many Malaysian restaurants in the Bay Area, it'd be easy to say that Ipoh ranks among the best. However, the things I've tried have legitimately been pretty good. Nothing in particular may have amazed, but it's more than solid and I'd absolutely come back for their Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, and the first version of the Char Koay Teow I had!

Spaghetti as that was pretty much our childhood choice, going to HK style places. We grabbed some fried fish skin in salted egg yolk and fried chicken in salted egg yolk as we haven't had that before. Both were good. I definitely never had that chicken in salted egg yolk before but it seemed to work well. We got a half order of the Hainanese chicken, and that was delicious with the sauces provided. You can never go wrong with dim sum, so we got the sui mai, har gow, steamed pork ribs, and chicken feet. All were comparable to what you would get at a dim sum restaurant in the morning, but instead we had it at 8pm! Overall, the ambiance of the place is nice and quiet, with a few families eating out, and some college students enjoying a meal. The waiters would frequently stop by and refill our water cups whenever they were near empty, I probably would have got rice but my friends wanted spaghetti with the baked porkchop, overall a great place for a meal with dim sum too!

I'd say this café is definitely comparable to Orchid Café! We ordered the pineapple bun, baked cutlet rice, and Typhoon shrimp fried rice. The pineapple bun was excellent -- soft and bouncy inside with a buttery, flaky crust. It paired really well with their Hong Kong milk tea. However, the milk tea was a bit too sweet and slightly watery for my taste. I prefer a stronger tea flavor with a silkier texture. The baked cutlet rice with curry sauce was flavorful and comforting, but the cutlet crust was a little soggy. If it had been crispy, it would have been perfect. The Typhoon shrimp fried rice was really good -- very aromatic, topped with crunchy Typhoon-style garlic, and it had great wok hei. I've heard their Hainanese chicken rice is also really good, so I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Looks like Orchid Café has some serious competition in Millbrae now

The food is consistently amazing. The green onion pancakes, salt and pepper tofu, and fried rice are absolutely delicious every single time. You can tell everything is made with care. On top of that, the entire staff is always so friendly and welcoming. They treat us like family, and that's why we keep coming back after all these years. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and even better service!
