Chicken Pho You is a small hole in the wall restaurant right along Broadway in Millbrae. Super convenient parking, and it was quite busy during the morning hours! They have a few breakfast sets to choose from, and they're all very reasonably priced. I ended up getting the satay beef noodle, a classic Cantonese dish. There was a good amount of beef, and it delivered flavor wise!

My friend and I came here to try. The prices are reasonable. Some places are a bit pricey. The portions are big. They have a good deal from their special menu as well for $12.99. If you include a drink, you add $1.99 extra. The service was good and they have a good ambiance as well.

This weekend is the Millbrae Art & wine festival. We hadn't come down from the City in several years. As we're walking around I'm keeping my eye out on where to eat. Food stand or a sit down? This informal restaurant caught my eye. We entered around 11:30am to many folks eating inside. Pho on a hot day? Yes. Hubby got his fave - the combo. I also got my usual- grilled pork with imperial roll with vermicelli. Hubby's pho was served typically in a large soup bowl. He enjoyed the broth. Mine was served on a dinner plate rather than in a bowl that I'm accustomed to. Plenty of grilled pork. With a heap of iceberg lettuce. A small nest of noodles. And a sweet clear dipping sauce. The dish was ok but I wouldn't order it again. The imperial roll resembled an egg roll. Service was quick and efficient. It was nice eating at a sit down restaurant rather than standing at a temporary bar table in the parking lot.

A staple in Millbrae and especially when I'm in the area and craving a hot bowl of chicken pho.I've been coming to this restaurant for many years and their chicken pho always hits the spot on a cold morning. It gets pretty packed around 9am in the morning on the weekend along with a lot of takeout orders from the residential area nearby. The restaurant is has more of the Cantonese fare of dishes mixed in with some Vietnamese dishes as well. Their Cantonese breakfast combos/specials are affordable and pretty decent as well, such as their steamed rice rolls. But I always come for the: 1) #2 - Chicken Noodle Soup With Chicken Intestines(7.8/10) - The chicken slices are tender and not dry. The soup is hot and very flavorful. The rice noodles that come with it are thin flat rice noodles and they have a good chew to them. It comes with a lemon wedge and some jalapeno slices on the side. The "intestines" aren't really the intestines, more like the innards(which is just chicken gizzards and liver). The innards are prepared and cooked well and there isn't a funky smell to them, so they cleaned them well. There is something just very homey and comforting about this bowl of chicken pho! I've also tried: 2) Mixed Rice Ball(6/10) - This is basically the Toishan Tang Yuan, which is the savory version of tangyuan. It comes with a thick savory soup and a plethora of toppings (tangyuan - plain(not filled), dried shrimp, fish cakes, mushrooms, Chinese sausage(lap cheung), napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, sliced radish, etc.) It is a pretty big bowl and could probably feed 2-3 people. 3) Special Combo With Rare Slices of Steak(4/10) - Not a good bowl of beef pho at all. The soup is light and doesn't have any beef umami and the thin rice noodles they use for this, always ends up becoming mushy(not sure why...its the same ones they use for the chicken pho, but they always overcook these). The toppings are the typical pho toppings. I've given this a try a few times and I always end up being disappointed with it. 4) Iced Lemon Tea(6/10) - A typical HK style lemon iced tea. Light and refreshing and you can adjust the sweetness on this. 5) Hong Kong Milk Tea(5.8/10) - A decent milk tea and they use the cloth strainers to make the milk tea. You can also adjust the sweetness to your liking for this drink as well. Service is efficient and quick. The waitresses in the morning are all super nice. The kitchen does take awhile to get out the food when they have a flood of orders though. Just a no frills restaurant with staple Cantonese and Vietnamese dishes - some are good and some are just misses given their huge menu.

Chicken Pho You has been a Millbrae staple for many years now. It's a great place to fill your belly for a reasonable price. I always get their Pork with vermicelli noodles, rice cakes, eggs and salad. Today I tried the chicken which is also good but I just prefer the pork. I believe they charbroil it so it has a bit of char making their meats flavorful. Their spring rolls and crab cakes are also my most picked appetizers. They also have breakfast and lunch specials that I need to try out one day.

Ample seating, fast service and good home food. Its great for someone comforting and warm. Feels like a mom and pop shop. Will be back to try more.

First time here and they were opened on Thanksgiving. Very quiet inside the restaurant. A lot of variety in the menu. Just ordered the big bowl of noodles. Looks big and tasty.

Came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. We were warmly greeted and sat down right away. It seems to be more of a Chinese/vietnamese fusion restaurant. Spring rolls were pretty tasty, peanut sauce could've had a heavier peanut taste. I got the chicken pho which came with wide rice noodles not the traditional skinny pho ones- I like how tender the chicken is and the broth was very flavorful. Also nowadays pho places are about $20/bowl so this meal was a lot cheaper than I had anticipated. The chicken rice plate was also a good portion and tasty. Overall, left very satisfied!

I can't believe this place exists! I come all the way from the city just to have their breakfast combos. Nothing in the city is as comparable to this place and its price point. (If there is, someone let me know please.) Their pho uses the flat noodles which is my absolute favorite. Everyone who works here is super busy but extremely polite. Usually on weekends, it's packed with local aunties and uncles.

Venturing out here isn't my norm these days, especially with the weekday traffic from the City. When my family's accountant called to tell me that our tax returns were ready for pick up, we arranged to meet on a Sunday morning and have breakfast here. On that morning, he texted me that he forgot about a brunch appointment so I went there anyway to have breakfast before stopping by his office. When I arrived a little after 9 am, the restaurant was half full with some uncleared empty tables. When I caught the waitress' eyes, I pointed towards an empty table in the center area. It turned out one side of the table was occupied but the diner went to the counter to get something. When the gentleman sat down, he kindly pulled his side of the table apart from mine to create two separate tables. For breakfast, there is a one page, two-sided menu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=20jSnTdsy-IFloFQusYbeg) and (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=qBOvwUg7RTAfmzaZiOTNEQ). After a quick study, I ordered the ham & egg with macaroni breakfast special (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=AszO_PHLdr8REoeqtaN_fA) which comes with a choice of hot coffee or HK milk tea (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=llQou2UJ_aqonc2h9kVVHg). It's a $1.00 to have either drink iced. It was a basic bowl with two large lettuce leaves. Everything was straightforward as nothing really stood out. I must admit that, being in Millbrae, I was surprised that the ham was two large slices of cold meat cuts. Not wanting to ask for a fork and knife to cut them into bite size pieces, I alternated bites of the four solid ingredients (ham, egg, lettuce, and macaroni) using my chopsticks. The milk tea was standard with a small pool of condensed milk on the bottom so make sure to spoon it up and stir to get a balance mix of flavors. I didn't need anything as everything that I ordered and needed was already on the table. I noticed several entering customers experiencing long waits for a table or to order until 9:30 am. Apparently, that's when a 2nd waitress starts her shift. The food and service was okay but I'm bumping it up a half star for its reasonable pricing for breakfast and the variety of options.

Chicken Pho You has been a staple in my family for years. It's a solid establishment to get a bowl of chicken pho. We pick-up from here anytime the weather is a bit chilly or someone is under the weather and craving chicken noodle, This is also a good place to grab breakfast. They have some great combos that are fairly priced, such as jook with rice roll for under $15. Service is no frills and quick.

Special combo beef pho
Neal L.

Visited Chicken Pho You for dinner. I was seated right away and the server already had hot tea ready. I ordered the special combo beef pho and the shrimp and pork spring roll. The spring rolls were huge and had a decent amount of shrimp and pork. The pho was super flavorful, had so much noodles, and had tons of beef, tripe, tendon, and beef balls. It literally could feed two people easily. I loved that they had the hoisin sauce and sriracha already on the table. Some restaurants either give it to you portioned in a small plate or upon request. It wasn't very busy when I got in, but it started to pick up. The dining area is clean and noise level is pretty low. Everything came out fast and super hot. The server refilled my tea without having to ask. I was literally in and out in 15 mins. I left full and satisfied. It's a perfect place to get something quick by yourself or comfortably with a group of 6 max. Parking can get full since it's on the Main Street with other restaurants and stores. However, there's two decent sized parking lots around with EV charging if you need it. I'd come back because of how easy it was to eat and go.

Dine-in: #2. Chicken Noodle Soup with Chicken Intestines and #3A Fresh Spring Rolls (shrimp and pork).

2.5 stars. It's very much just ok. Got the chicken pho, and it wasn't bad but I wouldn't eat it again. Maybe other dishes are better?

We happened to come on a day their wifi was down, so it was cash/zelle only. Haha. Thats crazy. Luckily that did not stop us from dining in. I loved the duck confit, it was cooked so well and the duck slices were so jucy even though it seemed like a small portion of meat to pair with your noodle. It was the perfect portion after all. I enjoyed the BBH, though it is different from what I am used to. I enjoyed the oxtail, it fell right off the bone. My Hubz enjoyed his Pho Dac Biet as well. Though we wish the broth was hotter. There was plenty of meat and oxtail in his bowl. Would we come again, yes!

Menu is on a QR code that was provided on the table. One good thing about ordering on the phone is that it makes it easier to list what everyone wants. The downside is that six people's orders were messed up. I did see the waitress transfer the orders that was on our phone to what seems to be her phone. The waitress had to come back several times to confirm what we ordered. I ordered the oxtail-only pho, but they brought out the combo oxtail pho instead. To their credit, they did give us a free bowl of pho for the mistake and did not charge us the automatic surcharge for a large party. I understand that restaurants get busy, but it was still a frustrating experience.

We still prefer the tofu from Chili Spot in St. Louis. Curious, as I've always bemoaned the general lack of Southeast Asian options around, but, for whatever reason, I would always pass by without a second thought. However, after finding out from one of my old coworkers that this was where she'd go to whenever she had cravings for her childhood favorites, I knew I had to check this place out...and come back to try even more! Ironically enough, while Ipoh's location makes them super convenient to get to (there's lots of street parking around and SamTrans, BART, and Caltrain are all a short walk away), their nondescript appearance can make them easy to miss if you aren't looking. However, inside, this place is great! The vibe is super cozy and they have tables for groups large or small. As for the menu, it's extensive and chock full of options, from staples like Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, Mee Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Char Koay Teow, and Roti Canai. With nearly 70 other appetizers, soups, noodle soups, vegetarian, poultry, seafood, beef, lamb, stir-fried noodle, rice plates, and desserts to choose from, though, that's far from all they have to offer! -- (#A01) ROTI CANAI - Malaysian Crispy Pancake with Curry Sauce I've had this a few times now (and still no photo) and it's been really tasty every time. The roti is flakey with a lot of layers to it and I LOVE the curry dipping sauce that comes with it. Definitely worth getting! -- (#NR01) CHAR KOAY TEOW - Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodles with Shrimp, Squid, Bean Sprouts, Chives, Eggs, and Soy Sauce I've had this twice and I'm a bit torn. The first time, it was terrific - the noodles were cooked well, they didn't skimp on the seafood, and the dish was straight up delicious. However, the second time, the noodles were overcooked and the dish felt light on seafood. -- (#NR07) NASI LEMAK - Coconut Rice with Peanuts, Chicken Wings, Hard Boiled Egg, Chicken Curry Acar, Onion, and Chili Paste Ehh...this was just okay. The chicken curry was rich, the chicken wing was crispy and moist, and the rice had a strong coconut flavor. Sadly, though, the rice felt a little grainy/undercooked, the acar was really tart, and I wish the chicken had more curry. -- (#N02) LAKSA MEE - Spicy Red Coconut Curry Soup with Yellow Noodles, Shredded Chicken, and Mixed Vegetables Not the best laksa I've had, but it was one of the better ones and easily one of the heftiest. Not only was there a generous amount of chicken, but there was a ton of veggies in this, too. That said, it did make this feel like it didn't have enough noodles in it. -- (#D1) MALAYSIAN ICED TEA Not quite what I expected, but not bad either. I thought this was going to be more like a regular iced tea, rather than a milk tea, but at least it wasn't overly sweet nor overly milky. -- (#P01) HAINANESE CHICKEN with Chili Ginger Sauce A bit different from Chinese Hainan Chicken, but I liked this a lot. The chicken felt meatier, was far more tender, and it didn't have a bunch of bones. I also liked that they drizzled on some soy, but it did make it a little on the salty side. -- (#V03) STRING BEANS BELACHAN - Sauteed Green Beans with Garlic, Onions, and Malaysian Shrimp Paste Sauce To be honest, this was pretty unremarkable. On the plus side, the sauce on this was good and the string beans weren't overcooked. On the other hand, the string beans could've been blistered more and could've used more of the sauce. -- (#BL03) BEEF IN GREEN CURRY with Potatoes, Eggplant, Okra, and Green Beans Other than the choice of meat (I would've preferred chicken), this was great! While I wish the curry had been richer/creamier, it tasted spot on, there was a fair amount of beef, and it was loaded with veggies. Beyond the food, service here is pretty good as well. The workers are all really nice and happy to offer suggestions/help with the menu, the kitchen gets dishes out relatively fast, and I love that they don't really try to rush people to leave even at the end of the night. Since there just don't seem to be many Malaysian restaurants in the Bay Area, it'd be easy to say that Ipoh ranks among the best. However, the things I've tried have legitimately been pretty good. Nothing in particular may have amazed, but it's more than solid and I'd absolutely come back for their Hainanese Chicken, Laksa, and the first version of the Char Koay Teow I had!

Anyways we got seated quickly, and I began with a nice cold beer and we started looking at the menu. We instantly had to get the baked pork chop w. Spaghetti as that was pretty much our childhood choice, going to HK style places. We grabbed some fried fish skin in salted egg yolk and fried chicken in salted egg yolk as we haven't had that before. Both were good. I definitely never had that chicken in salted egg yolk before but it seemed to work well. We got a half order of the Hainanese chicken, and that was delicious with the sauces provided. You can never go wrong with dim sum, so we got the sui mai, har gow, steamed pork ribs, and chicken feet. All were comparable to what you would get at a dim sum restaurant in the morning, but instead we had it at 8pm! Overall, the ambiance of the place is nice and quiet, with a few families eating out, and some college students enjoying a meal. The waiters would frequently stop by and refill our water cups whenever they were near empty, I probably would have got rice but my friends wanted spaghetti with the baked porkchop, overall a great place for a meal with dim sum too!

My go-to Hong Kong café in Millbrae is usually Orchid Café, but this new spot popped up on my IG,…read moreso I decided to give it a try. I'd say this café is definitely comparable to Orchid Café! We ordered the pineapple bun, baked cutlet rice, and Typhoon shrimp fried rice. The pineapple bun was excellent -- soft and bouncy inside with a buttery, flaky crust. It paired really well with their Hong Kong milk tea. However, the milk tea was a bit too sweet and slightly watery for my taste. I prefer a stronger tea flavor with a silkier texture. The baked cutlet rice with curry sauce was flavorful and comforting, but the cutlet crust was a little soggy. If it had been crispy, it would have been perfect. The Typhoon shrimp fried rice was really good -- very aromatic, topped with crunchy Typhoon-style garlic, and it had great wok hei. I've heard their Hainanese chicken rice is also really good, so I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu. Looks like Orchid Café has some serious competition in Millbrae now
