Where do I start...from the casualness to the beer to the just the overall vibe...it's reminds me so much of my hometown Tianjin in the north. This place is kind of a hole in the wall with its self proclaimed "Texas BBQ" and location. Parking can be tough if the parking lot is full, and I wish they picked a better spot to open this shop. It's off the beaten path for most Chinese restaurants in the area. The prices for BBQ aren't exactly cheap, however that can all be mitigated since they offer AYCE at a price starting at $35 a person with drinks. I love their lamb skewers and chinese hamburger. Lamb skewers were seasoned to how I expected them - with a spice mix mainly consisting of cumin. I also like how they include a fatty piece just before the last piece, which is They also offer spicy powder on the side that you can shake on your order to make it more spicy. The Chinese hamburger was very flavorful and authentic and very cheap for the price - much more value than ANY fast food restaurant and a lot healthier! We also ordered a liangpi and cumin chicken, both which were decent. This place offers very fair prices for chinese BBQ if you consider AYCE, since I have yet been to a chinese BBQ place that offers AYCE. Food comes out pretty quickly, and service is welcoming, especially if you're familiar with northern chinese hospitality. If you can look past the fading decor, colored utensils, and overall hole in the wall vibe, this place is actually pretty good if you're from northern china and looking for a homely vibe! I've always saw this restaurant in the corner of my eye when driving, and I finally got the chance to try it for their Chinese burger! This dish changed my life, the pork was so savory and it had small chopped up pieces of a spicy green pepper. I can't recommend it more! My dad also decided to try their chicken fried rice, and he told me it was delicious and packed with flavor. This is definitely a hidden gem, but I believe it deserves more hype! Definitely enough to feed two people. I feel like you can't beat a deal like this these days especially for bbq'd meats. My bf got a recommendation to try this place out. I've never heard of it so I went along with no expectations. It's one hole in the wall joint! The place has mismatched furniture. Whatever restaurant this was previously, they kept what they felt was still in good condition and added what they liked to the place. Our seats were uncomfortable as if the cushion lost its bounce and it became hard and our table looked like floor tile but it was laminate. The glue was coming off the edge of the table so it was no longer sticking and lifted up. Maybe I should have taken a shot so you could understand what I'm trying to describe. In other words, ambiance was less than desirable. But I don't usually rate a place because of ambiance or service. So on to the food! ***OUR PICKS*** FISH & CHIPS ~ we got a huge plate of crinkle fries with some fish and a dollop of tartar sauce and ketchup. Lightly, crispy batter, but you can tell the fish was frozen. We even saw her grab the frozen fish out of the freezer which was on the side of the wall. I guess you can't expect fresh fish. I was only able to eat 2 pieces as this was heavy and greasy for my stomach. BF ate more of it and felt queasy after lunch. 2/5 SIDE OF BBQ BEEF RIBS ~ for $12, we got more bones than meat! Lots of cumin and seasoning which doesn't taste Texan though these were supposed to be Texan BBQ ribs. At least that's what was shown on window. The meat came off the bones but we did not care for the spices. 2/5 Waitress was ok. We got our food quickly since we were the only ones in the restaurant at 1pm on a Wednesday. I peeked behind the counter and the ribs are braised, then grilled with sauce (so technically no barbecue). These are actually pretty flavorful with perhaps a hint of cumin and pleasant chew. The egg fried rice was a pleasant surprise with that wok flavor; only egg and no other typical additions. The potato salad was fine. It's a good value for $16 in the Bay. ALERT! Personally I don't like the spices they used on the skewers or veggies. The beef skewers are so rough and chewy, not at all tender. The sesame noodles had no sesame flavor and the noodles were rougher than what I prefer. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the Chinese grilled pork sandwich. The meat is flavorful and tender. Had a to-go order on the original Chinese pork burger. It has pulled pork inside with chopped green pepper inside. I was pleasantly surprised that the meat was very juicy and the meat was not overly flavored. Since it's a to-go order, I can't say anything about the service or ambiance. I tried the Chinese pork burgers, stinky tofu, and the BBQ combo (pork ribs, fried rice and both types of salads). The burgers were fine but I was blown away by them. Good seasoning overall and I like the idea but in no way did it actually reminded me of a burger. More like a good bao. The stinky tofu didn't do it for me. Personal preference, the reviews seemed great but I've never had it before and don't intend to again after trying it. It's an acquired taste for sure. Cheesy tasting. Left an aftertaste too. The BBQ plate was the star surprisingly (or not since they advertise Texas BBQ). The regular greens salad was not good though. I would opt for double potato salad because that was actually very tasty. I finished it and I don't normally like potato salad. The fried rice was seasoned well and I enjoyed it. The ribs?? Solid. I was there with some friends around 7pm and it was very dead for dinner hours. The staff was just sitting at the dining tables. We were told to seat ourselves and after waiting for about 8min, we got up to look for our own menus. We were kind of skipitcal on the food from the lack of business so we did not do the AYCE BBQ option and tried individual dishes. I tried a Chinese burger (1 pork and 1 beef) and a cold noodle. The cold noodle was okay... It's nothing special. Definitely has better from other Chinese restaurants. The pork burger was good, but the beef burger was super dry. Also we weren't even offered water when ordering the food and I asked twice and I was completely ignored, but when my friends asked for soda's that comes instantly.... Wow, this was a great find! We wanted to dine at Fat's Wong but they were only open for a takeout, no dine in. We found this restaurant by chance and due to desperation and hunger. We got there around 1pm on a Saturday and were the only diners, we noticed most people got a takeout. We ordered the beef noodle soup - the dish was large, good for sharing. The noodles were fat and seemed handmade! The soup was herbal and delicious, my picky toddler liked it a lot! And the beef was super tender and moist. This is a really hearty noodles dish, great for cooler days and especially great that it's one of a few non spicy dish. We also ordered the lamb skewers, unlike Chinese bbq spots elsewhere the skewers are not sold per skewer, but per portion. 1 portion was about 7-8 skewers. They were well seasoned with cumin, sugar, salt and chilli powder. Even my non lamb eating hubby liked these. Hubby wanted thebeef ribs, 1 portion came with 3 pieces of ribs, they were each a good size. The seasonings were cumin, salt and (American) bbq sauce. They were good. We also had the Xian cold sesame noodles, they were a little numbing Nd was just a tiny bit spicy, I thought it needed more kick to it, but overall it was alright, good on hot days. There is no meat in this dish, just tofu, and thinly slices of cucumber. We also ordered their Chinese hamburger with beef. This was certainly a must eat here. The meat was very generous! It was juicy, mildly spiced w diced jalapeños. Very good. All the food was really good and we would certainly come again! The service was also very Friendly and fast! Service is almost nonexistent besides ordering. Everything is kind of self served. Getting your drinks and the sides. The foods are okay but they are too flavorful as in too much spices. Some of the meats are also overcooked causing them to be burnt and very hard to chew. You can only order 3 times which kind of beat the purpose of ayce and a lot of options are not available with the $35 options. You need to pay the $45 options to get the noodles and other specialties. Place is really small and only have one bathroom stall though it is quiet and got enough spaces if it's not packed. In any case, after another 10 min staff then confirmed my order came through, and they were able to get my order ready in an additional 10 min. F o o d - Roujiamo (aka Chinese burger that has its roots dating back 2000+ years) - tried their $6 one with braised pork (*5*) and $9 one with cumin lamb (*3.25*). Although I love cumin lamb, their lamb chunks were sliced a little on the larger size, so some pieces were a little chewier than others---still seasoned well & very flavorful. I didn't have any expectations for their braised pork Roujiamo, and it turned out superb---pork was most & juicy, and their marinade was very flavorful. Both burgers were bursting with filling. Also got their $17.95 cumin lamb skewers (*3.5*)- 1 order has 8 skewers. It consisted of similarly well-seasoned lamb pieces that were smaller, slightly more spicy, and more tender than in the burger. Lastly, got their $17 Xi'an lamb soup w/ steamed bread (*3.5*). The soup was not watered down, and very flavorful. Loved the soup, but we weren't too used to having it with the firm steamed bread pieces (same bread used for the burgers). Also noting, the thinly sliced lamb meat accompanying the soup is somewhat dry, which is fine since most likely its flavor went into the soup. Fantastic spot for Shanxi cuisine - how did I not come across this hidden gem before?! Walked in on a Wed with a lunch to-go order and was told it'd be a 15 min wait, and at exactly 15 min I got my order: * lamb skewers: my husband and I lived in Beijing for a year and the first bite of these took us right back to our younger pre-kids days. Hot, juicy (aka the right amount of fat), crisp edges, no overcooked bits, heaaaaavily spiced with cumin as the strongest flavor note. Tiny bit of a spicy kick. Ugh these are so good. * xi'an lamb soup with bread (羊肉泡饃）- as other reviewers mentioned, it's a wonderfully rich lamby broth, with some scallion and cilantro garnish. On the side is a container of glass noodles and tiny dense bread bits to dump in. The noodles are slippery and delicious as always, and the bread bits soak up the broth. My husband said it reminded him of dumplings in chicken and dumplings (NOT Asian style dumplings). Broth is really rich and chock full of small lamb chunks (looks like rib chunks maybe?). This is not a westernized dish so yes there are bones in the lamb bits and some bone shards/grit does fall to the bottom dregs of the soup, but it also enriches the soup. I like to add some extra cilantro and chili oil at home. Can't wait to get this again in the winter. * Chinese hamburger with pork (肉夾饃) - I'm not sure hamburger is the best translation. IMHO it's more like a palm-sized dense sandwich. I used to eat a lot of these in Beijing too. The fresh chopped jalapenos add a great crunch to offset the fatty meat and the dense bread. PLEASE READ!!! BEWARE !!!! So it was my first time to visit this establishment. Upon entering, the establishment was small, and looked more of a storage room due to the amount of supplies stored against the wall and near the counter. None on the tables were not cleaned up, there were plates left from the previous customers, so we were not able to dine in even though we had came not even an attempt to clean up. Also what caught my surprise was a table of raw meat of variety being prepped in the dining area in exposed air. There menu was specializing in BBq, so we had ordered the 3 meat combo due to BBq. We chose Chicken breast, wings and Ribs. After we had placed the order, i noticed immediately the cook, grabbed a bag from there fridge which was a "COSTCO ROSTISSIRIE" chicken and began to chop the items we had ordered and recooked it on there disgusting grill. The waitress who took our ordered grab the other items which was the wings stored in the fridge where soda cans were placed with her bare hands and handed it to the cook over the counter including the ribs. Now this waitress let me remind you was still serving cooked food and placing her exposed unsterilized hands to other customers. So while we were waiting for our food, let me also remind the raw meat that was still being prepped was still in the dining area not being touched for a good 15 min, so if we came in and saw that, that raw meat must be on that table longer than 15 min in the dining area exposed. After 30 minutes or so waiting for our food, no action was being taken on any of the areas i mentioned, the tables not cleaned, the exposed raw meat in the dining area area remained untouched, the waitress continued to serve foods to customers with her uncleaned hands. The cook, continued to use another portion of that "COSTCO ROSTISSERIE" chicken to another customer who had a placed an order. We received our order and upon opening it, obviously it was the items we had seen were what we ordered. We didnt say anything to them what we seen but took our ordered and never ate it but threw it in the garbage. This establishment shouldn't be open at all, serving food to customers with that kind of practices. Who knows what might in the back in the kitchen doors what lurks. But for those who read, BEWARE .... There not BBQ, sad to put on a sign saying "Texas BBq", clearly give it a bad rep. And the city of San Bruno... Needs to get checked out by food dept safety. Their menu has so many interesting options that you wouldn't conventionally get at Chinese restaurants including duck neck, and organ soup, but honestly I can't wait to go back and try it! We ordered the Chinese hamburgers and smoked beef to go. Only 10 mins wait. The hamburgers and smoked beef were all tender, savory, and delicious! YAYYY a restaurant that specializes in rou jia mo!! What is rou jia mo? It's one of the most delicious, filling sandwiches you'll eat, made with a dense flatbread-like bun and stuffed to the brim with slow roasted pork and fresh chopped jalepenos to add crunch and to cut through the "fat". They have a variety of meats here, but the most traditional is the regular pork rou jia mo. I eat it with Chinese black vinegar and chili oil, since that's how my uncle showed me when I had it in Beijing, and it just adds several more layers of complex flavors to balance out the richness of the pork. Hubby also got the grilled pork rou jia mo but conculded it wasn't as good as the original pork, mostly because the jalepenos elevate the ladder. We also got the lamb skewers- flavors were delicious, but since we took it to go, the outside got wet and mushy. Our place is only 5 minutes away, but the skewers are placed inside a thick paper bag with aluminum coated on the inside, sealed tightly so the steam kind of melted the dry spices that was coated on the outside of the skewers. Obviously not their fault, and like I said, the taste was great but I'm sad they weren't charcoal grilled. You'll see me bitching about the lack of charcoal grills in all my BBQ reviews, and I'm aware it's a Bay Area problem rather than the restaurants themselves, but I'm still sad nonetheless. We tried this place out since they had a bogo offer on Uber eats. I haven't seen many restaurants in the area with this regional style since being in the NY area We ordered the lamb skewers and cold sesame noodles. As others have mentioned, the cumin and spice flavors on the lamb are strong and well balanced. My only problem with these was that the lamb chunks, while generally crispy on the outside, were a little inconsistent in their texture (some were tender with great fat content, while others were pretty dry). The sesame noodles were a real surprise, what we received seemed quite different than what was pictured in previous reviews. The noodles, rather than being standard wide/flat type, had little air bubbles giving them a spongy texture (a bit like injera, the Ethiopian bread), and looked to be hand pulled based on their shape. I've never encountered noodles of this texture, so I'd recommend trying this place out just for the unique experience on the noodles. The sauce was incredible and well balanced - for takeaway the sauce came in 4 separate containers, which was informative. It seems like the magic mix is an equal volume mix of 1) soy/vinegar garlic, 2) thinned sesame paste, 3) five spice flavored broth? Not exactly sure why only a few reviews hav been conducted. Svcs are okay, dining environment is decent, but these are secondary when it comes down to food. We tried the 35-dollar all-u-can-eat without much expectation but turned out much of surprises. Meats were freshly prep'd; soy milk was freshly made; quantity was abundant. They served 3-rounds but we could order unlimited amount each round--of course we would hav to pay whatever we left over at the end should there be any. Meat were marinated and BBQ'd with flavors specialized from a variety of regions in Asia, including HK-style, GZ-style, Taiwan-style, Zibo-style, Malaysia-style, you named it. We only ordered 2-round and we spent the entire 90-min, which is the time limit, to finish. We would not recommend those Chinese burgers if you are trying the buffet because bergurs are hugs and can make you full quickly. The 45-dollar buffet may be a good options should you wanna try more kinds of noodles, which can also fill ur stomach quickly btw. Friday night wasn't packed with ppl and there is a bar right next to it so parking can be a bit challenge at night time.
