Visited this restaurant again after 2 years. We had a great meal except the gigantic soup. BBQ Pork and Crispy Pork were both excellent and came in a big portion. The Chinese Sausage Claypot Rice was also delicious, it has the satisfyingly crispy rice crust at the bottom. We enjoyed the Mixed Vegetables with Seafood, the scallops and shrimp were fresh and flavorful. The Daily Soup with chicken and Chinese herbs was very flavorful and seemed like it was simmered for a long time. However, the server misled us on the portion size, claiming it was appropriate for 3 people when it was actually a massive steam pot for 10 people! Felt like she intended to make us over-order. The Stir-Fried Kailan with Garlic was tough to eat because the vegetable stems were left whole and way too big/long. Came here late last night after picking up my son from SFO airport. We were looking for a Chinese restaurant that was still open past 9pm and saw this place. They were about to close in 20 minutes but they still let us in, which I appreciated! I didn't know that this place is a chain! We ordered the BBQ Pork rice plate and wonton noodle soup. Pretty standard Cantonese comfort food/dishes. The portions were big and the food was good. They were closing so we rushed to finish our food. The service was good despite it being late. The place looks a bit dated and maybe because it was the end of the day, it wasn't super clean. Food: I've enjoyed Cheung Hing for years. Sadly, a few weeks ago, after buying calamari from the counter area, we became sick after eating it. Because of that experience, I won't be ordering the calamari again. Recently, I ordered my favorite roast duck and noticed a strange smell that seemed different from what I remembered. The roast pork and duck order might've gone horribly wrong. It was the chewiest roast pork I've ever tried. I could barely bite through it. It was like they boiled it after roasting because the meat did not bend like any regular roasted pork I've ever had in my life. The duck pieces were pretty boney and not amazing as well. Was so disgusted by the roasted meat dishes that I forgot to take a picture of the steamed minced pork with salted egg. That was pretty tasty, but it was still sitting on a bed of liquid. The BBQ items are generally good, other stuff is average at best. However, the stands out thing about this establishment is definitely attitude. Speaking cantonese is not a plus in some cases like here, they will rudely tell you that no sauce or lie in front of your face even the BBQ items are supposed to have sauce to dip. Then, when ask for bowls to put soup in, they will say I gave it to you already. The kitchen is full of people next door cause as a well behaved good church going Christian girl, we already assumed there is some soup nazi and abusive behavior going on in a fair priced Cantonese joint. HOWever, Cheung Hing definitely reached a higher level by telling someone they don't have certain things even the meals comes with it. Just like going to MacDON DON and the guy tell you no ketchup for the fries while thank God the lady pull one out and start telling the cleaver or meat cutting person there is "plum" sauce comes with the meal. Oh, and I fell into the trap when I ask what's good for green veggies, that other cashier would dare lie to my face and say "pea sprout"....in the middle of summer....but I trusted her and get it, WOW! it's expensive, small in portion and the stem is not even fully cooked and made it hard to even chew on it. You know a place is legit when it only has around a 3-star rating. This spot reminded me so much of home with its authentic Canton-style roasted meats. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the ginger scallion chicken to the roasted pork, roasted duck, and cuttlefish. The flavors were comforting and traditional without trying too hard, and the portions were incredibly generous. The two-item BBQ combo could easily feed two people. We stoped at Cheung Hing late afternoon for a quick bite to eat after we were at the Millbrae Lunar New Year festival. I had somewhat high expectations for this place. But I ended up being disappointed. Although the restaurant wasn't full, it took awhile for someone to seat us and to take our order. I can understand this since it's late afternoon and the staff is having their meal. At a glance, they do have an extensive menu and the prices are very reasonable. The plates are pretty generous too. The salt and pepper prawns were pretty good. It was flavorful and the amount given was decent. The seafood pan fried noodles came in a good portion. There was a decent amount of seafood. What was disappointing was the two BBQ item noodle soup. The bowl of noodles came out. The noodles were overdone and way too soft. They forgot to bring out the BBQ items: BBQ pork spareribs and roasted duck. At first glance, the amount was decent. But when we started eating, the pork spareribs were all mainly bone. And the roasted duck was mainly skin and bones. There was barely any meat. They looked like they were overdone. It looked like it was leftover meat that they reheated and served to us. It's very disappointing considering that they're known for the BBQ items, which is why we ordered it. But it was very underwhelming and disappointing. Hard to find authentic Cantonese bbq yet this restaurant features bbq and so many family favorites on their extensive menu. This restaurant definitely has a following since people were coming in to pick up food as well as an equal amount of people dining inside the restaurant. Every dish we ordered was plentiful and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant especially if your favorite Cantonese dish is hard to find. The roast duck was flavorful and tasty. We also ordered the clay pot dish featuring beef brisket. The wor wonton was chock full of treats although the won ton were each super salty. The seafood noodles were prepared perfectly. I haven't had good roast duck in awhile so I planned on getting roast duck for my snack tonight. Two of the places I wanted to order from were closed for their day off, that left me with driving up to the far end of chinatown in San Francisco or a location more inline with a much longer drive. I decided on Cheung Hing but first I needed to confirm they still had ducks left, they often sell out of their roast ducks because they make a great roast duck. I enjoyed the flavor of the roast duck plate, but the dish overall is a little on the greasier side which didn't sit too well with my stomach. The combination of duck grease and oil from fried rice will have you snoozing soon after. That being said, the price, portion size, and flavor are hard to beat nowadays (especially for duck). The restaurant is on the older side as some of the interior is dilapidated, but in a nostalgic in a way! Parking is available nearby, but I would count on it being taken, so do keep that in mind if you plan on visiting! Otherwise, the staff are great and very welcoming. Not quite as popular as The Kitchen down the street, but not quite as crowded either, it was popular enough that I decided to stop in for my comfort meal of won ton soup. I had the plain won ton soup, a chicken broth (I think) with a few full-size but tender bok choy. The won tons were hefty dumplings with a full shrimp each (sometimes with a bit of shell, yech) and a lot of ground pork, barely enclosed in a flimsy envelope. Rather heftier than the won tons I was expecting, but pretty good. Service a little flaky. They gave me a table, brought tea, and then left me alone for quite a while. It lacked sesame oil to give it some flavor. It had a weird sweet taste in the pork that overpowered the shrimp taste. They are not plump. Service was fine. Refused to sell a $2.50 bottle of water to my child because I used a credit card. I came here for lunch today with my mother and my young child. After finishing our meal, I paid the bill. A few minutes later my child needed some water, so I asked a staff member if I could get a cup of room-temperature water. She told me to get it myself from the tap near the cashier. When I looked at the area, the hygiene did not look very clean. Since the water was for my child, I asked if it was filtered. She said it was not. So I said I would just buy a bottle of water instead. She took a bottle from the refrigerator and handed it to me, then asked if I had cash. I told her I only had a credit card since I had already paid for the meal. She immediately took the bottle back and said she couldn't sell it to me because the bottle costs $2.50 and if I paid by card she would have to pay transaction fees. Her exact response was essentially: "Why should I sell it to you?" I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was not asking for free water. I was simply trying to buy a bottle of water for my child. Refusing to sell a $2.50 bottle of water to a paying customer -- because of a few cents in credit card fees -- is not just poor customer service, it shows a shocking lack of basic decency. Cheung Hing does the job, kind of, if you're hungry and kind of craving some Chinese food and you want to dine-in. It's a very average dining experience here and there isn't a lot to say about their food. It's very average, if even that. We ordered a few dishes for our table, which included a Clay Pot dish, Shrimp with Walnuts, and the Beef with Bitter Melon. Everything was kind of mediocre, other than the Beef Bitter Melon, which actually tasted fresh with a good amount of flavor. Service was slow here, even when we were here during dinner hour. Was about half packed, but it was so difficult to get the host's attention and they kept forgetting what we ordered - had to ask twice about a single dish and kept telling us they'd check with the kitchen or something. Alright place, but only come here if you just want some average Chinese restaurant experience. Best BBQ duck we have ever had. When we are craving consistent, juicy, fresh duck this is our go to place. We drive all the way from Foster City and it is worth it. The duck is so tender and flavorful it hard to stop eating. I don't know what the secret is but it works every time. read more

I ordered a beef stew w/ wonton lo mein for lunch. The food was just lukewarm and within an hour I had multiple diarrheas that lasted for the remaining of the day. I also ordered a salt baked chicken as take out. Part of the chicken tasted like floral detergent which suggest the food container for the chickens may not have been thoroughly rinsed after cleaning. Just okay! Pretty affordable but not clean! We were honestly so scared that we would have an upset stomach after our meal. When we came in, no staff member were to be seen so we were pretty confused. We just followed the people in front of us and sat down. We ordered half barbecue roast duck ($17.95), Salt Pepper Tofu ($8.95), Pan-fried String Bean ($12.95), Seafood Pan Fried Crispy Noodle ($13.95), and Wonton Soup ($11.95). The Wonton Soup was first served. The soup was pretty salty. It would've been nice if the bok choy was cut up smaller and even yet, washed better. I still saw some dirt hidden in the inner layers. After a couple bites in of the Wonton, we tasted something sour and realized that the wontons went bad. We notified the waitress and appreciated that they tried to make it right by taking it off our bill. The Salt and Pepper Tofu & Pan-fried String Bean clashed in terms of flavor so would recommend to choose one or the other and not both. It got kind of boring really quickly. Nothing really stood out for both of these dishes. The tofu could have had more Salt and Pepper taste. The chili flakes were really not necessary. The String Bean had too much going on and the flavors of the chili flakes, pickles, and minced pork did not work well together. The Seafood Pan Fried Crispy Noodle was just okay. Lacked flavor. Bok Choy was also in this dish and again, wish it was chopped up smaller and cleaned better. Lastly, their infamous roast duck wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I found it pretty salty and lacked meat. I even think the Asian supermarkets make better roast duck. Glad I got to try this place but sadly won't be back. Dine-In Food: Good. We got the beef stew with lettuce clay pot and beef chow mein as dine-in. Beef chow mein tastes authentic, like other Chinese restaurants. Good ratio of beef and noodles and bean sprouts. The beef stew was good but had a slight off taste on some pieces because of the lettuce. I don't like cooked lettuce taste in general and some of that flavor transferred to some of the meat. It would be better if they used cabbage instead, but I would get it again. It wasn't too fatty. Service: Good/Nice. Cost: Just these two items was little less than $30 before tax. NOTE: The tip suggestion on the bill is based on the TOTAL INCLUDING TAX, which isn't right. Take-Out Food: Really good the first day. Ordered 2.25 lbs of roast pork at $14.99/lb to go to have for dinner. That night the skin was still nice a crispy and the meat wasn't salty, but it did have fat. My spouse doesn't like that the fat is marbleized in with the meat. The pork that we got from SF Chinatown had almost no fat and the skin stayed crispy for days. The pork skin from here got soggy the next day. Flavor is still good. She directed me to a table with 2 other diners next to it. When I asked for a table adjacent to the usual dining area, she directed me to a table for 6. This table is along the path for the takeout line for their know bbq. I refused because all the people waiting for bbq will be looking and breathing down on the diners. Asked for a quieter table, she yelled "all table in Chinese restaurants are noisy ". I walked into the adjacent area and pointed to a table (the section was completely empty). She said "Go sit down and wait". I have been to this location for over 25 years and the service has deteriorated over time. For same food, recommend its San Mateo or South San Francisco locations. So upset. I used to love the roast duck here but was gone for 4 years. Came back expecting the best but was so disappointed. The duck was dry, way way way too salty making it inedible. The sauce which was a gem was too strong in spices, not the yummy sauce years ago. I ended up having to soak the roast duck in water to remove the extra salt snd the strong sauce taste. First ever to do this since on a trip. If I was home, i could salvage it in a soup broth. My favorite duck place has bit the bullet and dived into hell Breaks my heart. We found Cheung Hing after being in the area and finding out the restaurant we were going to was unfortunately closed for the day, so we decided to give Cheung Hing a shot. We ordered two Hong Kong staples, beef chow fun and the combo BBQ dish with char siu, soy chicken, and duck. Starting with the beef chow fun, I would give it 4/5. The portion size is quite great and the onion, green onion, bean sprouts were all fresh. Came to Cheung Hing for Chinese New Year Eve Dinner (aka Reunion Dinner) and thought Cheung Hing did a pretty good job overall! While it doesn't quite have the ambiance of its fancier neighbors in Millbrae, it still offered set menus for the occasion and the house was packed! We made a reservation for 7:30, but the staff was a bit behind on arrival and the party at our table also hadn't wrapped up yet. We were sat at 7:45 and immediately ordered the set menu we had previously looked at which features many of the traditional "must haves" leading up to New Years. Everything we had was pretty good - the ginger scallion chicken, beef with mixed mushrooms, and steamed bass were all table favorites. Cheung Hing did run out of a few items which affected dishes like the mixed cold platter which now featured more....unique animal parts than normal like stomach, hearts, gizzards, and pig ears (all still tasty). Additionally the lobster was tasty, but they really over battered the poor guy which led to some pasty parts. The e-fu noodles also had to sub in more enoki mushrooms and dried scallops because they had ran out of crab. I think while I could criticize them for some of these snafus, it was clear that even they didn't really expect this amount of people. They also told us and apologized up front so it wasn't like they were hiding things. All in all for the quality of food, Cheung Hing did its best and that's what I'll credit them for. They are not known to be a banquet hall but they delivered a tasty dinner for my family and it didn't require much effort from us. 3.5 stars There are so many Cheung Hing's in the Bay area, I counted up to six with same name but not sure if they are all related or owned by the same people. So far the Noriega/Sunset location is our favorite spot for Chinese BBQ, recently also had take out from the San Mateo place during Super Bowl and enjoyed the roasted pork and duck. Placed an order yesterday at this Milbrae location to be picked up on our way to visit a family member near SFO. The food was well received. -Large combination BBQ platter with 5 items (Grubhub @$48) the large takeout box was filled with roasted pork, Cha Sui, duck, steamed and soy chicken. The soy chicken tasted old, very salty and hard, the other four items were much better tasting. The other three items ordered were all decent, we had beef chow fun , chicken/salted fish fried rice and salt and pepper fish. Next time I'd probably call to order instead of using the on-line app since it didn't provide the options of whole duck/chicken or BBQ meat by the lb. Everything was delicious! The fried rice was flavorful and not too salty or greasy, the portions are very generous. The Malaysia chow fun was delicious! It had a nice little kick and the curry was not overpowering, and they were very generous with the shrimp. The braised mushroom with tofu was very good and I recommend getting this for a veggie, the tofu was soft and delicate with the sauce soaked in. The salt and Pepper pork chop was mediocre in my opinion, I've had a lot of better salt and pepper pork chops. It was not as crispy as I'd liked it and the flavor of the garlic and jalapeños didn't really penetrate the pork chops. The Peking spare ribs on the other hand were fire! I highly recommend getting this and eating it over rice. The meat was flavorful and tender, while the sauce was sweet, tangy, with light vinegar notes. A friend, Cantonese, told me this chain, 祥興, is authentic. So we trekked from south to give it a try. Overall, I wish there's one like this closer to my home so that I can frequent it. But a 25-mile drive is too much. The portion is generous! Two of us couldn't finish even one dish, let alone 3. The BBQ fares were excellent, but not the greatest. Chow Fen was above average. Cheung Hing used to be a classic restaurant that my family would go to when they were located in Chinatown in SF. I am not even sure if it is the same owner or not. But I decided to try this location as a nostalgia and I was quite disappointed. The quality of the food was not as good as I remembered.
