Pork chop plate

My friend and I came here to try. The prices are reasonable. Some places are a bit pricey. The portions are big. They have a good deal from their special menu as well for $12.99. If you include a drink, you add $1.99 extra. The service was good and they have a good ambiance as well.

A hole in the wall spot in downtown Millbrae with comforting noodle soups. Usually no wait for a table. A large is only $1 extra for the noodle soups! Items ordered: - Chicken noodle soup: My go-to noodle soup. They provide a generous amount of chicken which is a mix of light and dark meat without bones. I always get a large and usually I have leftovers to take home and can make another meal out of it. - Vietnamese beef stew noodle soup: The soup had a bit of a sour taste for me which wasn't bad, it was just a different flavor than I have had previously. Also comes with a generous amount of beef with carrots and cabbage. - Fried imperial rolls: I think they changed the rolls from before because this time the rolls had some taro paste in them. Still pretty decent but I think I liked how they rolls were before.

This weekend is the Millbrae Art & wine festival. We hadn't come down from the City in several years. As we're walking around I'm keeping my eye out on where to eat. Food stand or a sit down? This informal restaurant caught my eye. We entered around 11:30am to many folks eating inside. Pho on a hot day? Yes. Hubby got his fave - the combo. I also got my usual- grilled pork with imperial roll with vermicelli. Hubby's pho was served typically in a large soup bowl. He enjoyed the broth. Mine was served on a dinner plate rather than in a bowl that I'm accustomed to. Plenty of grilled pork. With a heap of iceberg lettuce. A small nest of noodles. And a sweet clear dipping sauce. The dish was ok but I wouldn't order it again. The imperial roll resembled an egg roll. Service was quick and efficient. It was nice eating at a sit down restaurant rather than standing at a temporary bar table in the parking lot.

Chicken Noodle Soup with Chicken Intestines($14/$16)

A staple in Millbrae and especially when I'm in the area and craving a hot bowl of chicken pho.I've been coming to this restaurant for many years and their chicken pho always hits the spot on a cold morning. It gets pretty packed around 9am in the morning on the weekend along with a lot of takeout orders from the residential area nearby. The restaurant is has more of the Cantonese fare of dishes mixed in with some Vietnamese dishes as well. Their Cantonese breakfast combos/specials are affordable and pretty decent as well, such as their steamed rice rolls. But I always come for the: 1) #2 - Chicken Noodle Soup With Chicken Intestines(7.8/10) - The chicken slices are tender and not dry. The soup is hot and very flavorful. The rice noodles that come with it are thin flat rice noodles and they have a good chew to them. It comes with a lemon wedge and some jalapeno slices on the side. The "intestines" aren't really the intestines, more like the innards(which is just chicken gizzards and liver). The innards are prepared and cooked well and there isn't a funky smell to them, so they cleaned them well. There is something just very homey and comforting about this bowl of chicken pho! I've also tried: 2) Mixed Rice Ball(6/10) - This is basically the Toishan Tang Yuan, which is the savory version of tangyuan. It comes with a thick savory soup and a plethora of toppings (tangyuan - plain(not filled), dried shrimp, fish cakes, mushrooms, Chinese sausage(lap cheung), napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, sliced radish, etc.) It is a pretty big bowl and could probably feed 2-3 people. 3) Special Combo With Rare Slices of Steak(4/10) - Not a good bowl of beef pho at all. The soup is light and doesn't have any beef umami and the thin rice noodles they use for this, always ends up becoming mushy(not sure why...its the same ones they use for the chicken pho, but they always overcook these). The toppings are the typical pho toppings. I've given this a try a few times and I always end up being disappointed with it. 4) Iced Lemon Tea(6/10) - A typical HK style lemon iced tea. Light and refreshing and you can adjust the sweetness on this. 5) Hong Kong Milk Tea(5.8/10) - A decent milk tea and they use the cloth strainers to make the milk tea. You can also adjust the sweetness to your liking for this drink as well. Service is efficient and quick. The waitresses in the morning are all super nice. The kitchen does take awhile to get out the food when they have a flood of orders though. Just a no frills restaurant with staple Cantonese and Vietnamese dishes - some are good and some are just misses given their huge menu.

Chicken Pho You has been a Millbrae staple for many years now. It's a great place to fill your belly for a reasonable price. I always get their Pork with vermicelli noodles, rice cakes, eggs and salad. Today I tried the chicken which is also good but I just prefer the pork. I believe they charbroil it so it has a bit of char making their meats flavorful. Their spring rolls and crab cakes are also my most picked appetizers. They also have breakfast and lunch specials that I need to try out one day.

Ample seating, fast service and good home food. Its great for someone comforting and warm. Feels like a mom and pop shop. Will be back to try more.

First time here and they were opened on Thanksgiving. Very quiet inside the restaurant. A lot of variety in the menu. Just ordered the big bowl of noodles. Looks big and tasty.

Came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. We were warmly greeted and sat down right away. It seems to be more of a Chinese/vietnamese fusion restaurant. Spring rolls were pretty tasty, peanut sauce could've had a heavier peanut taste. I got the chicken pho which came with wide rice noodles not the traditional skinny pho ones- I like how tender the chicken is and the broth was very flavorful. Also nowadays pho places are about $20/bowl so this meal was a lot cheaper than I had anticipated. The chicken rice plate was also a good portion and tasty. Overall, left very satisfied!

I can't believe this place exists! I come all the way from the city just to have their breakfast combos. Nothing in the city is as comparable to this place and its price point. (If there is, someone let me know please.) Their pho uses the flat noodles which is my absolute favorite. Everyone who works here is super busy but extremely polite. Usually on weekends, it's packed with local aunties and uncles.

Venturing out here isn't my norm these days, especially with the weekday traffic from the City. When my family's accountant called to tell me that our tax returns were ready for pick up, we arranged to meet on a Sunday morning and have breakfast here. On that morning, he texted me that he forgot about a brunch appointment so I went there anyway to have breakfast before stopping by his office. When I arrived a little after 9 am, the restaurant was half full with some uncleared empty tables. When I caught the waitress' eyes, I pointed towards an empty table in the center area. It turned out one side of the table was occupied but the diner went to the counter to get something. When the gentleman sat down, he kindly pulled his side of the table apart from mine to create two separate tables. For breakfast, there is a one page, two-sided menu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=20jSnTdsy-IFloFQusYbeg) and (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=qBOvwUg7RTAfmzaZiOTNEQ). After a quick study, I ordered the ham & egg with macaroni breakfast special (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=AszO_PHLdr8REoeqtaN_fA) which comes with a choice of hot coffee or HK milk tea (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=llQou2UJ_aqonc2h9kVVHg). It's a $1.00 to have either drink iced. It was a basic bowl with two large lettuce leaves. Everything was straightforward as nothing really stood out. I must admit that, being in Millbrae, I was surprised that the ham was two large slices of cold meat cuts. Not wanting to ask for a fork and knife to cut them into bite size pieces, I alternated bites of the four solid ingredients (ham, egg, lettuce, and macaroni) using my chopsticks. The milk tea was standard with a small pool of condensed milk on the bottom so make sure to spoon it up and stir to get a balance mix of flavors. I didn't need anything as everything that I ordered and needed was already on the table. I noticed several entering customers experiencing long waits for a table or to order until 9:30 am. Apparently, that's when a 2nd waitress starts her shift. The food and service was okay but I'm bumping it up a half star for its reasonable pricing for breakfast and the variety of options.

Chicken Pho You has been a staple in my family for years. It's a solid establishment to get a bowl of chicken pho. We pick-up from here anytime the weather is a bit chilly or someone is under the weather and craving chicken noodle, This is also a good place to grab breakfast. They have some great combos that are fairly priced, such as jook with rice roll for under $15. Service is no frills and quick.

Special combo beef pho
Neal L.

Visited Chicken Pho You for dinner. I was seated right away and the server already had hot tea ready. I ordered the special combo beef pho and the shrimp and pork spring roll. The spring rolls were huge and had a decent amount of shrimp and pork. The pho was super flavorful, had so much noodles, and had tons of beef, tripe, tendon, and beef balls. It literally could feed two people easily. I loved that they had the hoisin sauce and sriracha already on the table. Some restaurants either give it to you portioned in a small plate or upon request. It wasn't very busy when I got in, but it started to pick up. The dining area is clean and noise level is pretty low. Everything came out fast and super hot. The server refilled my tea without having to ask. I was literally in and out in 15 mins. I left full and satisfied. It's a perfect place to get something quick by yourself or comfortably with a group of 6 max. Parking can get full since it's on the Main Street with other restaurants and stores. However, there's two decent sized parking lots around with EV charging if you need it. I'd come back because of how easy it was to eat and go.

Dine-in: #2. Chicken Noodle Soup with Chicken Intestines and #3A Fresh Spring Rolls (shrimp and pork).

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

Black Pepper beef Ribs- delish! tender pieces with grilled bell peppers and red onion made this dish pair really well with rice. Seafood clay pot- more tofu than seafood but still a tasty and well seasoned clay pot. Also ordered a couple of dim sum plates (Shrimp dumpling & beef Balls). Both were on par with other dim sum locales so nothing negative about their flavors.
