wild mushroom egg over rice
Liza M.

the wild mushroom and egg over rice clay pot was SO GOOD (no onion and no garlic). I'd definitely come back an order this again. the mushrooms tasted super fresh and the egg was perfectly runny. wish there were more vegetarian options on the menu though. this place replaced hunan mifen, but the price point increased significantly.

The noodles are delicious, the broth is rich yet not greasy, and the beef slices are incredibly tender and smooth. It is almost impossible to find any flaws. If I had to point out one area that could be improved, it would probably be the choice of beef chunks. They are still very tender, but the texture feels just a little dry at times. Even so, this small issue does not take away from the overall experience. Overall, I highly recommend this modern pho restaurant. They also offer many other dishes with great value for the price. Strongly recommended to everyone.

The outside has a cute little garden walkway. We got the soy milk pho - such an interesting dish that I was dying to try! It was actually really good since the broth was light. The pho was a little sweet from the soy milk. The original pho broth flavor is subtle. The noodles were cooked perfectly chewy and I lovedddd!!! The wagyu skillet was tender and juicy! My friend and I both thought the meat tasted like al pastor for some reason lol. Not a bad thing.

I ordered the Crispy Honey Chicken Benedict. I really enjoyed this dish. The potatoes were perfectly bite-sized, crispy, and seasoned. The poached eggs and chicken were a good combo. Whenever I order an eggs benedict, I'm only able to finish half and have to box up the other half. However, I was able to finish 98% of this dish. It could be I was super hungry this day or the flavors and portion were just right for me. Anyways, that's just to say it was good.

Thankfully, we were still seated within about 15 minutes. I really enjoyed the Tom Yum Scramble served inside a croissant. The croissant itself was a bit disappointing, slightly stale and reminiscent of a Costco croissant but the tom yum scramble was absolutely delicious and flavorful enough to make up for it. The Thai Tea French Toast was nicely balanced and not overly sweet, though I would've liked a bit more texture and crunch. As for the drinks, I'd probably skip them next time. Both the ube latte and matcha latte tasted a little artificial, and I've definitely had better versions at other brunch spots. Overall, I enjoyed the food and appreciated how attentive the service was.

This time we ordered the sesame noodles, truffle fried rice, spicy chicken, and the cubed beef with mushrooms. We also tried the coconut jelly dessert - it had melon and watermelon in addition to the coconut jelly which was nice and refreshing at the end of the meal. Glad we gave this place a try again!

Their food is fairly vanilla - delicious, but by no means mind blowing. We tried their string beans, salted egg tofu, and sizzling beef. Of these, the beef was probably my fav. However, I didn't think it was particularly different from what I have had at other cheaper Chinese restaurants + their portions are rather small. The only large entree was their signature sauerkraut fish, which was $45! It was good, but could go to Fish & You and get the same thing for half the price. Alas, not worth it at its price point.

Semi sweet glaze over complimented well with some of the bitterness of the veggies. Spice powder on the side was also a nice addition! Barely spicy but good to add with the meat. Honestly everything was not bad. My biggest gripe though was that these hot plates were heated by two tea lights and basically did little to nothing. You can hold your finger there and it will feel barely warm at all. The food is already cooked so it's not like it did anything other than to "warm." There were other tea light candles underneath and if the other ones lit up, it might've actually did something. If I could, I would've lit them all up since I prefer my food hot. Otherwise, these hot plates are pure aesthetic, near zero function.

We prebooked the set menu. Boy was it a dining experience! From start to finish, every single dish was so deliciously curated. By the end of our meal, our tummies were full and the entire journey from appetizer to dessert was so satisfying. 808 Zone is truly a place that we will plan to revisit for our next special occasion.

The ambiance is a bit similar to a fast casual restaurant than that of a high end course meal and the service aligns with that. Bathrooms are in a bit of a sorry state and chairs are peeling at the edges. Service is a bit clumsy and rushed. No one asks for any food restrictions before the meal and it isn't asked when reservations are being made, so you'll have to actively speak up if you need this addressed. Dishes are only fully explained at the bar, if you sit at the standard tables you'll get a very basic dish explanation. The food is mostly Chinese Japanese fusion and some dishes knock it out of the park, like the chawanmushi which is fused with flavors of Chinese egg drop soup. Some really drop the ball, like the scallion noodles which were soggy and overly greasy, the oil was not properly infused with the green onion and so you just got mushy soggy plain oil flavored noodles. The course lacked consistency. Some dishes were incredible, some average, and some downright bad. There's a lack of consistency in the prep also, there were crab shells in the orange crab dish, there was a bad bitter uni in one of the chawanmushi, etc. I think the ambiance, service, and course doesn't add up to the $150 price tag. There's definitely potential but the lack of effort does affect the overall experience.

Besides the fried rice, the tuna and salmon sashimi are large, fresh, and high quality. Many times when I eat sashimi that is not very clean, it upsets my stomach and makes me want to use the restroom. However, the food here is both clean and fresh, and I had absolutely no discomfort after the meal. I also ordered chawanmushi and stir fried udon, both of which were very well executed. I would give full marks to this restaurant for both its sashimi dishes and main courses. The service is good, the environment is clean, and the dishes are priced normally, perhaps slightly on the higher side, but the value for money is reasonable. The only downside is that parking around this area is quite difficult. Overall, however, I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys omakase and appreciates high quality Japanese cuisine.

Service: 2/10 Hostess and Waitress was 10/10, live music was good. . . until it wasn't. I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday as a family member recommended it and loved coming here on night outs. It started out as an amazing lunch, my family gave some money to my little brother to give to the singers and request a song. In response, the singers called out my family as irresponsible for sending a child up to request. My family and I took this as a joke at first, until the singers called brought it up again, then it didn't feel like a joke anymore. Then, he began to target my family and I's table for the fact we are Filipino and "jokingly" cussed at us in our language. Between the first joke to cussing us out, we didn't make any remarks or comments, we were eating enjoying our time and eating together. When one of my family members spoke up to let them know it was beginning to feel offensive as the singers were not joking around with other tables. We were told that "it's just Hawaiian culture to tease." over and over again. This kept going back and forth. Does that seem right? Just because of your culture you have a right to tease about mine and use our language to cuss us out? I don't have a right to defend my culture especially after those comments? To the business owner, this interaction included my family, the singer, and a lady who seems to be a regular there; note that this happened on Sunday May 24 between 12pm - 1:30pm. It's acknowledged that there is alcohol involved in all parties but there's a very fine line between joking and just being plain mean, especially when you're full blast on a mic. When we were outside the restaurant and a nice Filipino waitress came to check on us, the same lady who was arguing with my family came back out to shout some more. In all of the span of 20 minutes, not a single staff or owner interjected. Mind you this interaction occurred in public with many families and children watching. Is this the representation you'd like to show for your restaurant? It's AAPI month for god sakes! I came here to celebrate my birthday, my community, and to connect with others, and this is what I receive?? I'm sure if it had gone a different way, my family and I would have had a good time, and we were until it got way too far.
