    Pork & Shrimp Wonton Noodle
    Julian L.

Had a chance to check this spot out recently. The place was crowded, which is always a good sign for this type of food, but definitely be prepared for a wait. My advice? Stick to small groups of 4 and try to go close to opening to avoid the crowds. The service was nice and impressively efficient despite the hustle. The Food: Wonton Noodle Soup: A bit of a mixed bag. The flavor was there, but some wontons had a thick dough left at the top from the wrap. It's a small technical detail that could be easily fixed by how it's wrapped, but it dampened the experience slightly. Hon Kee is still the standard for wonton noodles up in SF, but this is a decent effort. Braised Beef Wonton Noodle: This was the winner. The beef was perfectly tender and tasty. HK Milk Tea: Hit the spot. Overall: A good experience. Even with the minor wonton critique, I'm looking forward to heading back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

A solid wonton noodle spot! The space is well-lit and very popular with locals. While they sometimes offer a Yelp waitlist, even when the waitlist is not active, there might still be a wait; you put your name on the paper waitlist. Turnover is fast though so the wait is not bad. Service was quick and friendly. As others have mentioned, the beef brisket & beef tendons are yummy, and perfect with the wonton noodles together. I also had the osmanthus water chestnut drink, which was refreshing. We ran into friends dining here also and they gave Nom Nom Bistro's egg tart a thunbs-up; we'll have to try it next time! Overall, while we still prefer Hon Kee in SF (Irving location), we are glad to have Nom Nom Bistro as an option in the Peninsula and will definitely be back!

First visit and just opened. Came via recommendation from a friend. Since opening there's always a line for lunch and dinner. The menu is very limited, mostly wonton noodles, soup noodles, and Chinese tapas like marinated chicken feet, pickled cucumbers, other delicacies. I enjoyed the wontons and crispy pickled cucumbers. This is really a Chinese comfort food palace. Not decorated lavishly tho. The staff is very attentive and polite. I plan to go back to my comfort place - this place. 4.5 STARS Nom Nom Bistro has your wallet in mind with filling entrees starting at $11.95...and nothing is over $17.95. Take that $20 salads...well, $26 if you want chicken. Ridic. Opening last summer, Nom Nom Bistro has been a hit with locals craving Cantonese and HK Cafe comfort food. It took a couple of tries but I've found my go-tos! M E N U Specialty: HK Wonton Noodle Soup. They also have a variety of dumplings, braised meats, jook, rice dishes, and desserts: milk custard, tofu pudding, egg tarts, and more. Soy milk is housemade. F O O D * Taro Cake 芋頭糕 (Special - $8.95): https://tinyurl.com/bderj86z The housemade taro cake was crispy on the outside and chockfull of tender, earthy taro. Delicious with chili sauce. TIP: Pan-fry leftovers with eggs to make bột chiên or chai tow kway. * Handmade Potstickers 手工锅贴 w/ pork + cabbage (8 pc - $10.25): https://tinyurl.com/bdhkefhf Thin, chewy skin with a savory pork and cabbage filling. I prefer crispier bottoms but they were otherwise fine. * Rice Noodle Roll w/ xo sauce 醬炒腸粉 ($7.45): https://tinyurl.com/5n92enuv LOVED THIS! Chewy rice noodles studded with dried shrimp and pan-fried, great wok hei with crispy, caramelized bits. The housemade XO sauce added a rich umami and a kick of heat. * Braised Beef Brisket Wonton Noodles 广式牛筋腩云吞面 ($17.95): https://tinyurl.com/ybmzjzn3 - Add extra four wonton +$4.95, cross-section: https://tinyurl.com/2rm96zfp * Braised Brisket Wonton Noodles 广式牛筋腩云吞面 ($17.95): https://tinyurl.com/5ds3u39c - Request lo mien "dry" style +$2 Between the two styles, I prefer the lo mien "dry" style; soup is served on the side. - Wonton: Plump and juicy with savory pork and snappy morsels shrimp. They don't skimp on the shrimp. - Noodles: Perfectly chewy and springy, nicely soaks up the savory sauce from the brisket. - Soup: Light, clean broth with a deep umami and slight briny flavor from the dried flounder and shrimp. - Braised Brisket: Inconsistent between visits - sometimes it's meltingly tender and gelatinous, and sometimes it's chewy. - Veggies: Crunchy choy sum for a well-balanced meal. Their wonton noodles really hits the spot! If you live in Peninsula, it saves you the trip to Hon's or LetsSweet Kitchen (formerly Beyond Café) in the city. * Red Bean Curd Pork Trotter Lo Mien 南乳猪手撈面 ($14.25): https://tinyurl.com/mtz4arbn My current fav entrée at Nom Nom, you receive four large, meaty trotters with silky, gelatinous skin and tender meat that easily pulls off the bone (great for your skin!). They're served over springy wonton noodles that soak up all that rich, delicious sauce. It's savory-sweet with a subtle funk from the fermented red bean curd. So satisfying. * Curry Beef Brisket Rice 咖喱牛腩饭 ($13.95): https://tinyurl.com/3ct97cv3 * Braised Pork Belly Rice 古法焖猪肉饭 ($13.95): https://tinyurl.com/tk3tbnf4 While very budget-friendly and filling, I wasn't a fan of their rice dishes. They tasted like reheated leftovers except they arrived lukewarm. S E R V I C E Cordial and prompt. Shoutout to Kyle! Despite it being busy and the only ones outside, he checks in with us and makes sure our water cups are always filled. A M B I A N C E Casual, modern bistro vibes with about 12 tables inside and two low tables outside. Overall, if you're looking for a legit HK café comfort food, Nom Nom Bistro is the spot to hit up in the Peninsula.

This is a relative new restaurant selling quick Chinese Cantonese food. I went because my neighbor wanted to try it. It's very similar to the other quick bite place across from the 7-11 (but now changed to hainan chicken restaurant). I guess the main selling point is the Cantonese wonton dumplings for this restaurant. There really are not many choices but if you come here you kinda know what to expect. The place is surprisingly popular among locals so you often would need to wait a bit. The food is alright but I can't say I'm impressed enough to want to come back. It's just like a McDonald's in that you know what to expect and not much to talk about. I'm not a fan of Cantonese noodles in general as they are not chewy enough and often has that alkali smell and taste. The wonton/dumplings are alright and they are plump enough. I think they are slightly expensive for what you get. The vegetarian goose (mushroom wrapped with tofu skin) is good as it's a common Cantonese dimsum stable. Service is good enough and place is new so fairly comfortable. A solid 3 star I guess.

The HK milk tea is pretty good for USA standards, pretty smooth and strong tea flavor. The wonton noodles were bouncy, wontons had a good balance of pork and shrimp, the beef was a little too sweet. The potstickers I wouldn't recommend because it looks crispy but was lacking. The filling was nice and juicy though. Chicken feet is a cold appetizer that was marinated in lemongrass and black pepper, different from standard but needed more black pepper. I really enjoyed the double milk custard, it was really smooth, creamy milk flavor, and not too sweet. But I hoped it would be hotter. Store is cute but a bit small. Staff was nice and friendly, HK cafe style feel.

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty albeit chilly experience. Parking is available in the city owned surface lot behind the restaurant or on nearby streets. Dining is available both indoors or outdoors. The front door was left wide open during lunch making it an awfully chilly experience... Started off with the HK milk tea and it was decent. I've had stronger and smoother tea in HK. The rice noodle rolls with XO sauce was quite tasty. Portions were generous too. The pan fried chives dumplings were tasty. They were made in house and portions were gigantic. The wonton beef brisket wide noodles soup was tasty. The noodles were fresh and the broth was flavorful. Portions were generous too. The wontons were light and plump. The beef brisket and tendons were decent. Cash and credit are the same price.

Nom Nom Bistro was open on Easter Sunday evening, so we decided to try them out. When we got there, we put our name down on the waitlist. It took about 20 minutes for the 4 of us to be seated. Casual cafe style type of spot. The waitstaff that took our order was friendly and efficient. ***OUR PICKS*** BEEF BRISKET AND TENDON WONTON NOODLE SOUP ~ beef brisket and tendons with wontons (4) and a choice of noodles. I chose the thick flat egg noodles. Tendon and stew meat was soft and cooked well. Wontons had nice shrimp filling. Though the noodles could have been less cooked. It wasn't overcooked, yet it wasn't "crispy" and quickly blanched like some I've had. I think it's because it's paper thin that it's difficult to get that texture with those noodles. Still enjoyable! 4/5 CURRY BEEF BRISKET AND TENDON RICE ~ slow braised beef brisket and tendon in curry with potatoes and carrots. The person who had this dish said the curry wasn't at all spicy nor that flavorful. The menu had a chili pepper to indicate that it would be spicy, but it wasn't. Meat was good and tender and they gave a generous helping of rice. But he probably wouldn't order it again. 3.5/5 RED BEAN CURD PORK TROTTERS WITH THICK FLAT DRY NOODLES ~ tender pork trotters slowly braised in fermented red bean curd with a choice of noodles or rice. My guy ordered this and felt the same about the noodles. It was slightly more cooked than he would have liked. Pork trotters were soft and tender, perfectly cooked. Flavor was good too. But my guy was still hungry. He probably needed to order an appetizer along with his entree. 4/5 SILKIE CHICKEN SOUP WITH GINSENG ~ my daughter had this because she wasn't too hungry. She said it's your typical herbal soup, though it wasn't tasty and plated nicely. 4/5 PUFF PASTRY EGG TARTS ~ we all wanted this though thinking about it, we could have gotten another dessert for a variety. However, we were happy to each have an egg tart to finish off the meal. Not the flakiest crust like phyllo pastry, but it was flaky. Custard was barely sweetened but nice and custard-y! 4.5/5 Overall, it's a solid choice if you want wonton noodle soup. But the menu is limited. My daughter actually wanted soy sauce chow mein, but they ran out! I'm not sure if there's always a wait, but it seems like a popular spot among the Asian crowd. I'd like to come back and try the other tempting desserts like black sesame paste or the double skim milk custard. Others mentioned they were also delicious.

Solid Hong Kong cafe food! It's so nostalgic to me because I grew up eating Hong Kong cafe food that exactly that tasted like this. The price is decent as well, the quality is good. We went on a weekend night and there was a wait of around 20-30 minutes. They don't have an online waitlist and we went there to put down our names. The food is where it's at. We ordered four dishes and all of them were so delicious. The highlights were definitely the beef curry with rice and the double skinned milk. - Beef curry with rice (5/5): This was so so delicious and it tasted exactly like my childhood beef curry rice. The beef is tender. The curry is flavorful. The rice is a good complement to the curry. One thing I wish it's better is that they have more veggies in the curry. - Pork dumplings (4/5): Super solid and delicious. The dumplings are packed with flavors and filled with pork, just the way I like it. The dumplings are also super big. - XO pan fried rice noodles (4/5): Nothing too surprising, taste pretty decent as expected. It's fried well and the flavor is good. - Dun lai aka double skinned milk (4/5): Great flavor, I would order it again next time I come

So good! There was a surprising wait at 12p on a Friday, but it moved quickly. Highlights: - turnip cake: texture is so homemade and flavor is fresh - beef noodle soup: beef was tender and noodles are chewy! - black sesame pudding: great flavor (apparently this was viral online?) Would recommend for good casual eats!

Visited here on a cold rainy day and the food hit the spot. Yummy heart warming dishes. Tried the braised beef brisket wonton noodle soup, Zhongshan home style pork meatballs & lettuce congee and for dessert the black sesame paste with osmanthus. The beef brisket in the wonton soup was nice and tender and the soup had a delicious broth, the noodles were cooked perfectly. The congee was also tasty and meatballs were very tender and flavored. The sesame dessert was amazing..I'm a big black sesame fan. You also get hot tea with your meal. The service was amazing and everyone was very kind and welcoming.

Definitely going to return! Been here twice and both times the food has been solid! 100000/5 for the tofu pudding. I haven't found a good tofu pudding in Bay Area for a decade! Super silky and syrup one the side so you can add the sweetness to your liking. 5/5 for the beef brisket noodle soup. Love that they give you a choice of noodles. 4.5/5 chive dumpling. Great flavor. Just wish it was crispy for the pan fried version. 4/5 for sesame paste and HK milk tea. Solid but nothing spectacular. 3.5/5 braise pork belly with rice (not pictured) Pork belly was super tender. Solid just wouldn't order over the beef brisket wonton noodle. 3/5 milk pudding. Very creamy. I would prefer a little more sweetness. Too plain for me. Would be great with topping or flavored with something else. Not for me but I see a lot of people getting this. Service is fine. My first visit had a waitress that was super efficient and proactive. The other workers were great at getting the orders out. On my second visit, the efficient waitress wasn't there. I got ignored trying to check out when I was standing right in front of the cashier even when they helped out other customers. Don't be shy like me when checking out! Speak up if you want something.

    curry brisket rice $15
    Jeff H.

Food is good here. My order was a wonton noodles $13.25 and a curry brisket rice $15. The wontons aren't as good as the ones in actual Hong Kong. But it is good for Millbrae standards. These were inconsistent. While good, they can make them great by adjusting the seasoning to include more powdered sesame so that it enhances the natural shrimp taste. Noodles were OK. It would be better if they were more springy. For the curry brisket rice, this dish felt small. The ratio of curry to rice is wrong. Otherwise, the taste seemed OK. I would have preferred no ginger as it wipes out the flavor. Service was great. The kitchen was fast.

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

Unlike your typical Chinese Restaurant, this place specializes in Northern China style cuisine, so some of the dining experience may feel reversed. For example, they have a mince noodle that is served cold, but a Tofu Skin that is served hot. The English description are a bit off and they have a variety of frozen buns and other food you can buy to-go (they don't serve the buns at the restaurant). For the less adventurous, their spicy tofu, Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken (breaded and fried crispy) and a dry noodle are good starting point, and for vegetables, their stir fry green beans is good (but best served with some rice). Overall, this place is not bad, but wish their menu was more accurate in the description/content to meet customer's expectations.

There were only two of us so we couldn't order everything we wanted. Prawns came out first. Piping hot and crispy with that slight sweetness. They were cooked perfectly, super tender on the inside! Green beans next, also piping hot. They were sautéed with pork mince and who knows what sauce, but they were BY FAR the best green beans I've ever had. Couldn't get enough of them!! Beef chow fun was also amazing. The meat was so tender and flavorful, but we had gorged on shrimp and beans, so I didn't really want the chow fun anymore. It's a very large space. Tons of round tables all lined up with a huge tv screen at one end that was looping advertisements while we were there. Entering you pass by some fish tanks which could use a cleaning, but overall a bright and clean space.

Black Pepper beef Ribs- delish! tender pieces with grilled bell peppers and red onion made this dish pair really well with rice. Fried rice with Scallop & egg white- a little light on the seasoning but still a decent fired rice dish which with the beef ribs dish was a match made in heaven. Seafood clay pot- more tofu than seafood but still a tasty and well seasoned clay pot. Also ordered a couple of dim sum plates (Shrimp dumpling & beef Balls). Both were on par with other dim sum locales so nothing negative about their flavors. Overall service was fine; given it was the lunch hour but all the food came out relatively quickly and would definitely have a return visit.

The dim sum here was excellent and reminded me of home. Not only did everything taste good but it was served piping hot and came out quickly. The breakdown of our dishes is below: Walnut Shrimp - Hot and plump shrimp that has a bounce in your mouth covered with tangy mayo. We enjoyed the light fry. Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice - Fragrant but oily and plenty of flavor. BBQ Pork & Egg Cheong Fun - Soft sheets of rice noodle roll with a generous amount of ingredients. Hargow - Very good with big shrimp and a sesame oil flavor. Shumai - Soft thin skin withmore seafood than pork taste. Chiu Chow dumpling & Beancurd roll were ok but had fresh ingredients. Chicken Feet - I liked the overall flavor but it didn't seep all the way in. Parking is challenging but the taste is well worth a visit!

But I'm not upset at all about this impromptu decision as we had a great meal here. Our table of 6 ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. the most notable items for me were the spicy wontons and fish in chili oil. The dishes were spicy but not so much so that you couldn't enjoy the actual flavors of the dish. For those that like the Szechuan tingling feeling, the chicken in explosive chilis was also quite good. We had also given the string beans, green onion pancake, and pork and shrimp dumplings a shot and all of them hit the spot. I'm usually a huge fan of braised beef noodle soup so decided to get that here too. It wasn't the same as if I had gotten this dish at a Taiwanese restaurant; compared to the strong flavors of the other dishes, this one was pretty mild. So it's something I would skip next time I come, but every other dish was on point. Our waitress was also great at taking care of us, bring out our food quickly and helping us to clear the other plates. Even after we finished our meal and overstayed our welcome by continuing to chat, the staff didn't make us feel rushed to leave.

Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.
