    Spider Sushi Roll
    Adele W.

Pretty solid sushi spot. I came with my friends for dinner after Pickleball, at around eight. This place was fairly empty but parking was still not that easy. If you're lucky, you can find street parking. We found a lot down a couple of blocks. All the items were pretty good - Very balanced flavors that are not overpowering, which I like in sushi because I like to be able to taste the quality of the fish. We ordered a couple of appetizers and several sushi rolls. My favorite sushi roll, I can't remember the name of it, but it's the one with the fried pieces on top. Service was great - super nice and well attentive. Interior was great. Well decorated with Japanese styled pieces. They also have two TVs on playing some random baking and cooking videos.

Dropped by this spot in the now-trendy Broadway Burlingame scene. The tuna was fresh enough to still have its swimming license, while the unagi was a little on the sweeter side. Spider roll pulled a Michael Bay - a bit too much action in the fryer. But my friend's udon and chashu ramen stole the show. Caught myself eyeing their bowls through the night. Attentive service and always a smile made dinner really pleasant. Burlingame's Broadway has really grown up from its dark deserted days. Plenty of options to dine that have upped the environment

We have arrived on a Thursday night. The place was fairly busy, and just after we got a table the next customer asked to wait for a table. We have ordered shrimp tempura for starter, but it did take a little bit to get ready. For entries we ordered Udon and Bento, and for some reason, the bento box takes a long time to get ready. The bento box was delicious, but the other ones not so much. The tempura was too oily and the Udon was very tasteless. Very mixed feelings. The inside sitting is very nice. It is possible that they were busy and that's why the preparation time was long. Overall, I think we will go there again but may be for sushi rolls next time. The

Came in on a Thursday evening and was seated immediately. Service is friendly and the place has ample seating and parking! The menu (QR code only) is pretty run-of-the-mill, with things like rolls, bentos, ramen, etc. I opted for the chirashi which was $30. The food took longer than I expected to come out, and when it did, I noticed a small fly in my rice. I immediately told them (did not eat any of my food) and had to wait an additional 10min for a new bowl to come out. I was a bit surprised that I wasn't offered anything extra since I did wait twice while my friend began eating. The portion was pretty small, and the fish was pretty average. It did come with miso soup which was nice! Overall, a very average spot for your occasional Japanese fix.

I got a Chirashi bowl here and it was one of the best ones I've had in terms of content. I did not expect fancy stuff like ikura and scallop in there, which was a pleasant surprise. The seaweed salad was also nice addition.

We came on a weekday dinner time. I successfully made an appointment online during their closed hours. (5 stars for this reservation access) Food was very delicious, good presentation, size was just right. Ramen was generous. Udon was good. Rolls were all rolled nicely. Sunny side egg was too runny. A soy sauce runny egg can be substituted or cook the egg on low fire for a more cooked yolk. Eggs here are not pasteurized like Japan so this level of runny egg is not recommended. Service was wonderful. The waitress was patient to allow us to look over the menu as the QR code didn't work for my phone. Decor was causal; suitable for couples, groups, family dinners. It was a good size restaurant. Tables were well spaced out and didn't feel crowded. Bathroom could use some TLC. Lightning was too dim. I would recommend this small business.

Checking out Sweet Citrus Burlingame on Broadway Avenue, V and I saw Fuumi and have since had it on our radar for a few months. Returning to the street to initially dine at Café Figaro, we decided to walk over to Fuumi and check out their menu, then subsequently chose to have dinner here instead on Sunday, July 14, 2024. We arrived around 7:45 PM, entering through the back door...because we didn't identify the front entrance from the outside. No worries, though - we discovered the private parking lot this way. Enter smiley face emoji here. The small venue, consisting of a single dining room with marble or granite top tables and black chairs, a television mounted on the wall, a few booths at the windows, and a sushi bar, was well kept and clean on the evening of our visit. Maximum occupancy is probably about 75 persons. Below are some the items that we ordered: Hamachi (Yellow Tail) Nigiri - Mom found this sushi to be good and fresh enough to order seconds of it. Chashu Ramen - This was Z's first time ordering ramen at a restaurant. He enjoyed his bowl of noodle soup. The broth looked creamy and Mom was impressed by the roasted brussels sprouts toppings. Agedashi Tofu (6 pcs) - Good; however, I think we received only 4 pieces instead of 6. Katsu Chicken Plate - Both V and I ordered this dish. The entrée was a generous serving and the katsu was perfectly golden brown with a slight crisp. V did find skin or fat or something of the like in his katsu, though. Glad that I didn't run into that. Mochi Ice Cream (Green Tea & Strawberry) - Served with toppings of whipped cream and sides of chocolate sauce, the presentation was nice. V enjoyed this dessert. Our food came out pretty quickly. Athena was our server. She was very informative, friendly, and helpful. By the middle of our meal, Mom and V commented that we may have found a new Japanese restaurant to frequent, so sounds like we will return.

Food, Service and Ambiance : all great! That corner section of the street, easy find and new for us to check in. This Japanese restaurant is a great find! We had mini-octopus, hamachi carpaccio , spicy tuna rolls (took 2) no pictures as we easily finished it , baked mussels, fire and ice rolls, beer teriyaki (the beef was huge!), salmon teriyaki - all these are 9/10 and seafood ramen.

My friend took me here for dinner and it was good. We came near closing time and there was only 1 other table taken so the service was pretty fast. My friend realized that the menu was different online vs in-person. Highly recommend scanning the QR code at the restaurant instead. We ordered the vegetable tempura, gyoza, avocado and cucumber roll, chicken katsu roll, and the Godzilla roll. The gyoza roll was crispy and the sauce was good. My friend ordered the avocado and cucumber and the chicken katsu roll. The chicken katsu roll is a really good option for folks who don't like seafood and still want a roll. The Godzilla roll was everything i needed. The fried cucumber was unexpectedly delicious and was the star of the roll. The tempura in it was an additional crunch.

Tonkotsu Ramen was a bomb! Roasted brussels sprouts was a unique addition and the soup was very rich with black garlic oil. Generous amounts of noodles and toppings were a nice surprise, considering the bowl didn't look that big. My daughter ordered Tempura Udon and the volume of tempura was really generous. We shared California Delux Roll and that was delicious, too. Definitely going back to try more dishes.

This is actually a Japanese kaiseki style restaurant. Reservations are highly recommended as they do not take Walk-ins. There's two seatings for this restaurant so arrive promptly as they serve everyone at the same time . We started with the amuse bouche which was the kobachi three way. The three ways they served this was very unique. It was prepared with one steamed, one in soup and one fried. All were delicious! Next was the sashimi and it was also served with three different fishes. They did serve it with crostinis which was really good with the olive oil. We got the simmered yellowtail collar and the Toro skewers next. The yellowtail collar did have a lot of bones so I won't recommend this for older folks. It was very tender but a little on a salty side. I did like how it came out eggplants. The Toro skewers were also very tender but that wasn't my main dish. My friend enjoyed it very much. The dungeness crab chawanmushi was by far my favorite. It has a streamed egg and crab meat. They didn't skimp out on this dish it had a lot of crab in it. My next favorite dish was the kaki-age donburi which was a scallop and shrimp tempura. It was dust with a green tea sea salt I think. I wasn't able to eat it with the soup and I definitely wasn't able to eat it with the rice. By this dish I was already full. We also had the soju flight which was originally three flights but we added a fourth one . We got the yuzu. Lemon, strawberry and grapefruit orange. They were all good but the yuzu is the main winner! Since it was my bday , they turned off all the hours of the restaurant and everyone sang happy birthday to me. It was a little embarrassing but it added a little special touch. This was one of the best experience I've ever had at a Japanese kaiseki restaurants. The servers were so attentive. The food was creative and you can tell they spent a lot of time perfecting everything. They do change the menu every season so I'm excited to try their next menu when I come back.

We went around 5 PM on a Tuesday, and it was nice and quiet, so we were seated right away. We started with the teppanji and then ordered the katsu curry and karaage curry. The curry was rich, flavorful, and honestly reminded us of our trip to Japan. Portions were generous, and I liked that you can customize with extra meat, veggies, or even add an egg. The real standout, though, was the teppanji chicken--it was so good that we'd come back just for that alone. Overall, great food, good service, and a clean space. Japanese Curry, a sweet and mild curry, is very different from Indian and Chinese/Thai curry. Usually served w/crispy Tonkatsu and a cabbage salad, it can be hard to find. Finding good Japanese curry can be just as difficult. CHB satisfies on the Japanese curry savoriness front. While it's nothing fancy (that extends to their decor), it is housemade and delicious. Waitstaff was brisk and courteous. Was advised to not order more than what I had...he was right. Had leftovers to take home! Ordered the signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY w/pork. Other option is chicken. Steamed rice in a Japanese eatery is always top notch, always perfect and generous in portion here. The Tonkatsu was crispy but a tad short of tender, but tasty enough to dip in the accompanying Japanese curry sauce. I might ask for the curry sauce on the side next time. Cabbage salad, traditionally a huge portion was a small offering cushioning the Tonkatsu. Accompanied by a small scoop of house made potato salad and pickled veggies. The hot Tonkatsu, steamed rice and Japanese curry sauce was a great combo for me, a very filling and satisfying meal! CH offers a tabletop varied selection of chili peppers: Pequin, Wiri Wiri, Ichimi, Jalapẽno, Orange Habanero. I did a light sprinkling of the traditional Japanese Ichimi pepper to add a touch of heat and that was fine. Signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY was a great start to this menu tasting. I'll be back to try their DOUBLE MENCHI CURRY, KARAAGE CURRY, ASSORTED VEGGIE CURRY, KATSU CURRY UDON. CURRY HYUGA BURLINGAME is also one of the few places that has Omurice on its menu. So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome. It's a very small gesture, but it creates a nice first impression and adds a sense of hospitality to the experience. Considering the quality and pricing of the menu here, a simple welcome miso soup would fit perfectly with the overall dining experience.

I was excited to come back here on a quieter weekday night to avoid slower service, and to try…read moretheir actual sushi versus just getting the bento box. Unfortunately, even though there weren't that many people - the service still feels uncomfortable because it's like the staff kinda ignores you because they're busy but then they also kinda check up on you and you're just left wondering. (this happens when trying to order and also when trying to pay ) And really unfortunately, the food wasn't as good by any standard as it was in the past. I'm not sure if it was a fluke, but the bento box (katsu, chicken katsu, and especially the chicken teriyaki) didn't hit that hard :( The Agedashi dōfu was definitely not great but tried it bc it's one of my favorites. We also got the Bashamichi special roll and the double Hamachi roll - which were alright too. (The wasabi here is on the weak side, but this doesn't affect the rating.) Overall, pretty "just okay" experience and sad that it wasn't as good as it was before :(

We've been to Hanabi many times, when they were a fledging ramen place we'd go there because…read moregrowing son (now in mid 20s) just loved the slurp and after baseball was the perfect meal. Fast forward, it's Mom's Day, kids having meals on their own as parents, our celebration is to go somewhere good to have a meal, no lines (didn't make a res), kinda spontaneous. Hanabi fits the bill. Ordered the pork belly ramen ( looked really good at a neighboring table) and the Mayu-ramen, spicy, with kfc chicken (not what you think, means something else), both with a miso base. Wait was reasonable, time to get a table was 30 seconds tops. Other nights it's been jammed but not Mom's Day, just quiet, enjoyable. Both meals were spectacularly reasonable, serving what you'd want, with enough of everything to want to dive in because you were pretty assured you were going to be satisfied. Not fru-fru or bougie, ingredients that make the dish memorable yet feel you are knowledgeable and appreciated. Pork belly was soft, fatty yet lean, cooked well enough to be tender, yet with a little chew (not disintegrating like some bellies), lots of noodles al dente so you appreciate the noodle was not a mushy mass in the bowl like some places. The Mayu came with 3 drumsticks burning hot from the fryer but oh so good because it's served in a separate dish so it doesn't get soggy. The spicy is good enough to keep things interesting with losing its identity (unlike a lot of places). And they give plenty of ramen because it's that good. We keep coming back because they serve no-frills, you-can-bank-on-it ramen that is satisfying, consistent; staff is friendly without being overbearing. It's not a big place, tables and a counter, but they know how to keep diners happy and coming back for more. What more can you ask for? Thanks, Hanabi, will definitely be back!

The miso here is like no other I have had anywhere else, deeply rich and flavorful. Very family friendly as well, with mini dons available for the little ones.
