Because we were the only guests in the restaurant for about 10 minutes, the service was just a bit over-the-top. The hostess/waitress checked in with us frequently, so we felt like we had to order quickly even after asking to give us just a bit more time. We ordered three rolls, and I wish for the life of me I could remember which ones. They were prepared quickly, and we had our food in under 15 minutes. Again, we were the only ones in the restaurant for a few minutes, so this gave the chef time to prepare everything. This may not be the case mid-day or early evening. Overall, the rolls were okay and the experience was okay. The best part of the meal was the shrimp tempura! Crispy, fresh, and perfect. Great sushi spot in downtown Burlingame! Yesterday was my first time and though my friend orders takeout from Fuumi, she hadn't dined in until last night. Service was friendly and fast. They split our checks without one of us asking, which was appreciated. Restaurant was quiet and not crowded. I parked in the back lot but street parking is also availability. Only downside is that the prices are a little high, but that's on par with the area. My friend lives within walking distance and hopes to be a regular. Unfortunately I live out of state so it will be a long time before my next visit. All the items were pretty good - Very balanced flavors that are not overpowering, which I like in sushi because I like to be able to taste the quality of the fish. We have arrived on a Thursday night. The place was fairly busy, and just after we got a table the next customer asked to wait for a table. We have ordered shrimp tempura for starter, but it did take a little bit to get ready. For entries we ordered Udon and Bento, and for some reason, the bento box takes a long time to get ready. The bento box was delicious, but the other ones not so much. The tempura was too oily and the Udon was very tasteless. Very mixed feelings. The inside sitting is very nice. The menu (QR code only) is pretty run-of-the-mill, with things like rolls, bentos, ramen, etc. I opted for the chirashi which was $30. The food took longer than I expected to come out, and when it did, I noticed a small fly in my rice. I immediately told them (did not eat any of my food) and had to wait an additional 10min for a new bowl to come out. (5 stars for this reservation access) Food was very delicious, good presentation, size was just right. Ramen was generous. Udon was good. Rolls were all rolled nicely. Sunny side egg was too runny. A soy sauce runny egg can be substituted or cook the egg on low fire for a more cooked yolk. Eggs here are not pasteurized like Japan so this level of runny egg is not recommended. Service was wonderful. The waitress was patient to allow us to look over the menu as the QR code didn't work for my phone. Decor was causal; suitable for couples, groups, family dinners. Returning to the street to initially dine at Café Figaro, we decided to walk over to Fuumi and check out their menu, then subsequently chose to have dinner here instead on Sunday, July 14, 2024. We arrived around 7:45 PM, entering through the back door...because we didn't identify the front entrance from the outside. No worries, though - we discovered the private parking lot this way. The small venue, consisting of a single dining room with marble or granite top tables and black chairs, a television mounted on the wall, a few booths at the windows, and a sushi bar, was well kept and clean on the evening of our visit. Maximum occupancy is probably about 75 persons. Below are some the items that we ordered: Hamachi (Yellow Tail) Nigiri - Mom found this sushi to be good and fresh enough to order seconds of it. Chashu Ramen - This was Z's first time ordering ramen at a restaurant. He enjoyed his bowl of noodle soup. The broth looked creamy and Mom was impressed by the roasted brussels sprouts toppings. Agedashi Tofu (6 pcs) - Good; however, I think we received only 4 pieces instead of 6. Katsu Chicken Plate - Both V and I ordered this dish. The entrée was a generous serving and the katsu was perfectly golden brown with a slight crisp. V did find skin or fat or something of the like in his katsu, though. Glad that I didn't run into that. Tonkotsu Ramen was a bomb! Roasted brussels sprouts was a unique addition and the soup was very rich with black garlic oil. Generous amounts of noodles and toppings were a nice surprise, considering the bowl didn't look that big. My daughter ordered Tempura Udon and the volume of tempura was really generous. The restaurant is located at the corner of broadway, from the outside it looked like a very cute little spot. Upon arriving, my boyfriend and I were a little confused as there is a take out order table when you first walk in - and the workers didn't really notice us at first so we just stood there for a bit awkwardly. The service was either really fast or slow, not consistent but they were generally very nice. I think we came on a night where they had guests of their own visiting so they didn't really cater to us much, but still, that's not really a reason to not pay attention to your other diners or clients. We asked for tea at the beginning but did not get it until midway into our meal - and it was a first for the both of us to see the traditional cups served at Japanese restaurants but they had tea bags in them. Came here for a weekday visit for lunch and wanted to try it out for the first time. They have a little parking lot at the restaurant also, but not a lot of spaces so it may be full when you come by. Some things Fuumi does pretty well is great/friendly service with a comfortable enough interior and food wise the portions are pretty generous. The downsides for me mainly comes down to quality for me. My table ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Plate ($17.50) and Grilled Short Rib Plate ($22.50). The portions are nice, but the short rib was very tough and hard to chew, but the flavor was honestly pretty decent, but for the price tag that is steep for a short rib that isn't even remotely tender. The side salad also had a pretty strange sour taste when it came to the dressing. The teriyaki chicken was also a good portion, but it was pretty dry unfortunately. I liked the teriyaki sauce, but the chicken itself lacked flavor and moisture. In terms of their cooked dishes I was a bit dissapointed, but it wasn't the full experience because I didn't try their sushi also which is what they might be better at than their rice plates so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. OMG Omakase. That's really all I have to say. I love ordering omakase because I'm indecisive, so I didn't even look at the menu. Just sat down and said omakase. Done. (Oh, and a hot sake of course!) First it came with a rich, delicious miso soup. Different from other miso soups I have had. No tofu or seaweed, just the scrumptious broth. When the sushi was presented each piece was described. It was perfect. The restaurant is small but it's a friendly atmosphere. I'm only in town here for two nights but there is a very good chance I'll be back tomorrow! read more

The baby octopus is crunchy. The charsiu ramen is so so. It is interesting ramen serve with deep fry brussell sprouts and ear mushroom. For me, the soup is not hot enough. Stopped by during Labor Day after seeing this was one of few restaurants open in the surrounding area. The servers were kind and the space felt pretty clean. Although I was excited to try this, a few things went awry. We ordered the salmon nigiri, salmon sashimi, Shrimp Tempura roll, Lion King roll, California Deluxe, and the Mango Tango roll. The issue I had with this restaurant is that there were only two other parties in there at the time when we came in at 12:30. They took our order at around 12:45pm. Multiple parties of families with kids who showed up after us were getting their food served before us. I thought at least the salmon sashimi could have been served faster than the udon that other tables had ordered. Even some were getting their sushi rolls before us! We got our food at 1:40pm, although they profusely apologized for the wait--I was more confused why these families who came in later were being helped faster. We literally waited a grand total of 55 minutes. Basically almost an hour. The food was alright, but what really did me in was the price. It was $100.58 without tip. With 15% tip, it was $115.67-I have had better sushi (more of it, as well) at a much lower price elsewhere. I wish they at least offered a slight discount or something due to the wait, as they were very aware of the fact it was taking a while. Even as far as sending other servers to the table to apologize for the delay. Perhaps to be like other parties, I should have ordered one of their noodle soups for faster service, or maybe brought a big party to make me feel worth their time. First time dining here and made dinner reservation for 7pm for our weekly date night. Arrived at 6:55p to a full house of people and unfortunately a table wasn't set aside for us. We were offered the bar or outdoor seating but we decided to wait it out for a table. We ended up taking it and proceeded to look at the menu by scanning the QR code. The back room kind of resembled a large storage closet as there were cardboard boxes stacked up. Right when we were about to poke our heads outside to see if someone was coming back to take our order, somebody walked in. We ordered edamame, brussel sprouts tempura, warrior roll, fuumi roll, spider roll and a peach soju. The peach soju came out first pretty quickly followed by the brussel sprouts. The Brussels were light and airy and had a great taste. It would have been nice if more of the core was included instead of just the leaves. The edamame was pretty standard. The rolls came out shortly after. In general all the rolls tasted good, full of flavor and freshness. Love the fried octopus on the fuumi roll. They're like chunks of fried calamari. Overall the food quality was good, but the whole experience was very lacking. It ultimately came down to the reservations and the dining closet we got stuck in. It would have been nice if we had our table waiting for us at the scheduled time, get to experience the hustle and bustle of the main dining room, watch the fun cooking videos, watch the sushi bar and have the ambient sounds of an active restaurant. Our room was eerily quiet, and although the privacy was kind of nice, my wife and I would have liked the restaurant atmosphere we signed up for. Some other notes about the room. There was a giant electric fly swatter leaned up against the side, and rightfully so. There were a few pesky flies that were hovering around our meal the whole time. Our waitress was a bit rude and became impatient since we didn't know what to order. I ordered appetizers, which were fantastic and the kids (teenagers) loved it as well. Fuumi Burlingame provided the worst customer service I have ever received from an establishment. On Tuesday, I was excited to show a long time friend a new place to enjoy delicious food. After being seated we looked at the menu and decided to try a few things as this was both of our first time. We ordered an appetizer to start and needed a few more minutes to look at the rolls we wanted to try. When she returned to take our order I decided to order a few rolls for us to share. With every roll I attempted to order we were met with surprised looks and commentary that included, "Wow" "Really?" "Wow, you must be really hungry" "Wow, have you not eaten today?" For the first few comments we tried to laugh it off as we thought our waitress was joking with us, but that wasn't the case at all as the commentary continued throughout our time there. When she left the table we tried to shake off the feeling that this waitress was shaming us for how much we were ordering, but we decided to look past it. As the four rolls slowly started to come out she made comments on how things were going to fit on the table. Repeating the things she said before and including, "Wow, so much food. Are you guys trying to get in a food coma or something?" At this point we tried to eat as much food as we could comfortably, but the mood was soured and we wanted to leave immediately. When I asked for boxes and the check she told us we didn't need to leave and we could take our time to eat. I simply replied, "We would like to take the remaining food to go as I would like to eat comfortably at home." We packed up the remaining food and left. I've never ever experienced mistreatment like this before at any food establishment. Many restaurants are thrilled to have their customers indulge and try different dishes of their cuisine. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. Tip: If you choose to service people it should include all people, without prejudice.
