Inside of the restaurant
Deon S.

Greetings to all, todays review is On Sushi: The restaurant itself is moderately lit for its surroundings, and spacious enough to seat a small lunch crowd. The Service was just fine, as l was the only person in the restaurant at the time. I chose 4 selections off the main menu: The California roll - Which was just basic and seamed as if it was premade. Both Spicy tuna rolls were spicy but not big enough. The Spider roll was ok , but a bit too many veggies. Today's visit is just 3 stars with room to get better, Bottom line; l will be back to try other things on the menu for a second chance update.

Sushi Boat

Came here on a weekend when they operate sushi boats. The service is friendly. The ambiance is casual with radio playing in the background. Not busy so was able to be seated quickly. Will return to try more of the menu.

Deluxe bento

I come here when I want an inexpensive bento box, a nice variety of dishes, and generous portions! The deluxe bento has chicken teriyaki, gyoza, sashimi, California roll AND tempura. The tea is weak, but the service is friendly and they're not usually too busy. There's also a sushi conveyor belt but I haven't tried that yet.

This cozy sushi boat restaurant has become our favorite go to place. Fish is consistently fresh and nigiri are quite flavorful. Their rolls are also tasty and prices are reasonable, compared to other sushi restaurants in the neighborhood. And always nicely presented.

Ordered take out from here and thought it was okay. The raw fish wasn't as fresh as I normally like and the sukiyaki meat and shrimp were definitely overcooked. The flavor of the broth was good and it did come in separate containers but unfortunately was still quite overcooked. The lion king roll was probably my favorite from here! Good flavor and warm. Might be a hit or miss place for people who give it a try and mine was sadly a miss.

Chicken Teriyaki Deluxe Dinner

Great food great prices. Service was top notch. Friendly and helpful. First time coming here and it was great. Nice little place with tables for duos and 4 seaters. The rotating sushi boats were nice. Ordered the deluxe bento box for me and family. Value is so good.

We've been coming here for years, even before kids. My husband and I loved the previous owners, they were very friendly and accommodating. The previous owners used to know our orders when they see us at the door and automatically have baby miso ready for our daughter when we sit. We still come here after the change of ownership, because sushi craving is real. We still like their sushi, and we always get our usual. 49er Roll - yummy goodness, shrimp tempura and avocado with crab sticks, baked mozzarella and tobiko on the outside Mijouri Special - salmon, avocado, cream cheese, deep fried with unagi and mayo sauce Philly - we love oldie but goodie cream cheese and salmon all in one Salmon lover - my favorite! As the name implies, it's salmon, avocado on the inside, and salmon and thin slice of lemon on the outside However, we understand it's a small restaurant, but from our last two visits, there has only been one server. So when it gets busy, he gets pretty stressed out. We feel bad for him but we feel like, on busy days, at least two people should juggle all the requests of the customers. They also have a conveyor boat, I don't know if that's what it's called. They stopped it during Covid but I think they just recently started doing it again. Not really a fan of that because I've seen people get from it and put it back. Overall, we would still come back and support!

Lion King Roll & California Special Roll

I've been here a few times before and after quarantine but this review will be for my recent to-go experience. Our food was ready really fast, we only waited a total of 15-20 minutes. We ordered through yelp and by the time we got there we only waited for 5 minutes. They were really kind to us, I really wished they brought back the sushi boats like before. My order: Lion King Roll - Baked salmon california roll basically, and it was warm and delicious. The salmon was so tender and paired well with the broiled sauce on top. California Special Roll - Bf and I got the same thing except his was raw salmon on top, which was just as good! Mixed Tempura - Can't go wrong with tempura, the veggies were nice and soft while the shrimp was huge and delicious.

Curry Chicken Katsu, curry and salad on the side. Curry sauce kind of runny not as thick as I was expecting.
Janice A.

Service was pleasant. Restaurant was very well lit. They played pop music. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like they do the boats anymore. Prices seemed decent. Did not see $15-$17 rolls. I ordered the curry chicken Katsu with my curry and salad on the side. As soon as I saw the curry I knew it would be different. Seemed paler than the usual Japanese curry I'm used to. Reminded me of Thai yellow curry but not spicy at all. Sauce was runnier than I was expecting and kind of lacked the curry flavor. Chicken was a tad dry. I'm willing to give this place another shot but probably will order something else. Plenty of parking since it shares the same parking lot as Lowe's and Lucky's. Bathroom was fairly clean, however didn't have the seat covers for the toilet. :(

Sushi Sashimi Deluxe
Nina B.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants. I usually order the Sushi Sashimi Deluxe, Lion King Roll, 49er Roll, Agadashi Tofu, Takoyaki, Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box and of course Tempura Combo yum! I've been a loyal customer for years because they are very consistent. The food always tastes great, and my takeout orders are always correct. Friendly staff. I've never had a bad experience at this restaurant.

We ordered the deluxe bento box. Teriyaki salmon cooked just right. Not overcooked. The rolls and sashimi's were good. $15.95 for lunch special was a good price. Definitely will come back.

The price is reasonable and it was great to see a sushi place with a boat and on water. Service was a bit on the slower side but it's ok. Will come back later to try the lunch specials!

This is actually a Japanese kaiseki style restaurant. Reservations are highly recommended as they do not take Walk-ins. There's two seatings for this restaurant so arrive promptly as they serve everyone at the same time . We started with the amuse bouche which was the kobachi three way. The three ways they served this was very unique. It was prepared with one steamed, one in soup and one fried. All were delicious! Next was the sashimi and it was also served with three different fishes. They did serve it with crostinis which was really good with the olive oil. We got the simmered yellowtail collar and the Toro skewers next. The yellowtail collar did have a lot of bones so I won't recommend this for older folks. It was very tender but a little on a salty side. I did like how it came out eggplants. The Toro skewers were also very tender but that wasn't my main dish. My friend enjoyed it very much. The dungeness crab chawanmushi was by far my favorite. It has a streamed egg and crab meat. They didn't skimp out on this dish it had a lot of crab in it. My next favorite dish was the kaki-age donburi which was a scallop and shrimp tempura. It was dust with a green tea sea salt I think. I wasn't able to eat it with the soup and I definitely wasn't able to eat it with the rice. By this dish I was already full. We also had the soju flight which was originally three flights but we added a fourth one . We got the yuzu. Lemon, strawberry and grapefruit orange. They were all good but the yuzu is the main winner! Since it was my bday , they turned off all the hours of the restaurant and everyone sang happy birthday to me. It was a little embarrassing but it added a little special touch. This was one of the best experience I've ever had at a Japanese kaiseki restaurants. The servers were so attentive. The food was creative and you can tell they spent a lot of time perfecting everything. They do change the menu every season so I'm excited to try their next menu when I come back.

Unfortunately, even though there weren't that many people - the service still feels uncomfortable because it's like the staff kinda ignores you because they're busy but then they also kinda check up on you and you're just left wondering. (this happens when trying to order and also when trying to pay ) And really unfortunately, the food wasn't as good by any standard as it was in the past. I'm not sure if it was a fluke, but the bento box (katsu, chicken katsu, and especially the chicken teriyaki) didn't hit that hard :( The Agedashi dōfu was definitely not great but tried it bc it's one of my favorites. We also got the Bashamichi special roll and the double Hamachi roll - which were alright too. (The wasabi here is on the weak side, but this doesn't affect the rating.) Overall, pretty "just okay" experience and sad that it wasn't as good as it was before :(

We went around 5 PM on a Tuesday, and it was nice and quiet, so we were seated right away. We started with the teppanji and then ordered the katsu curry and karaage curry. The curry was rich, flavorful, and honestly reminded us of our trip to Japan. Portions were generous, and I liked that you can customize with extra meat, veggies, or even add an egg. The real standout, though, was the teppanji chicken--it was so good that we'd come back just for that alone. Overall, great food, good service, and a clean space. Japanese Curry, a sweet and mild curry, is very different from Indian and Chinese/Thai curry. Usually served w/crispy Tonkatsu and a cabbage salad, it can be hard to find. Finding good Japanese curry can be just as difficult. CHB satisfies on the Japanese curry savoriness front. While it's nothing fancy (that extends to their decor), it is housemade and delicious. Waitstaff was brisk and courteous. Was advised to not order more than what I had...he was right. Had leftovers to take home! Ordered the signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY w/pork. Other option is chicken. Steamed rice in a Japanese eatery is always top notch, always perfect and generous in portion here. The Tonkatsu was crispy but a tad short of tender, but tasty enough to dip in the accompanying Japanese curry sauce. I might ask for the curry sauce on the side next time. Cabbage salad, traditionally a huge portion was a small offering cushioning the Tonkatsu. Accompanied by a small scoop of house made potato salad and pickled veggies. The hot Tonkatsu, steamed rice and Japanese curry sauce was a great combo for me, a very filling and satisfying meal! CH offers a tabletop varied selection of chili peppers: Pequin, Wiri Wiri, Ichimi, Jalapẽno, Orange Habanero. I did a light sprinkling of the traditional Japanese Ichimi pepper to add a touch of heat and that was fine. Signature ORIGINAL KATSU CURRY was a great start to this menu tasting. I'll be back to try their DOUBLE MENCHI CURRY, KARAAGE CURRY, ASSORTED VEGGIE CURRY, KATSU CURRY UDON. CURRY HYUGA BURLINGAME is also one of the few places that has Omurice on its menu. So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome. It's a very small gesture, but it creates a nice first impression and adds a sense of hospitality to the experience. Considering the quality and pricing of the menu here, a simple welcome miso soup would fit perfectly with the overall dining experience.
