Went on a weekday for the lunch special. The service was a bit slow since there was only one waiter. The fish was just OK, it was quite wet and soggy.

4/6/25 I'm embarrassed to say that I have been to Amami Sushi Bistro a few times and haven't had a chance to write a review for them haha. The last two or three times I came here with my husband for dinner. We had ordered a variety of sushi rolls, which all taste tasted fantastic. The dinner hours are super busy, but you can get seated fairly quickly like within 10 minutes or so (at least from our experiences). In terms of parking, I highly recommend that you find parking along El Camino instead of in their parking lot. The parking lot is extremely small and can be tight. The most recent time we went there was for lunch and we didn't have to wait for a table. Here's what we got: - Gyoza - Spicy scallop roll - Yaki udon (mine) - Bento box: beef teriyaki with california roll (his) After trying out the udon, I think the next time I come here, I will stick to ordering their sushi. Unfortunately, the udon was very bland. Another disappointing thing was that the beef teriyaki was still very raw on the inside. After informing the staff, they brought out a new plate of beef teriyaki, but it took 20 minutes. The gyoza and the spicy scallop roll were the best items we had that day. What is consistent though is that the staff are very attentive and quick to take away dirty dishes. Even though the udon was a bummer that day, I would still give them five stars for the delicious sushi and the great service we have had in the past.

Affordable yet delicious omakase! One of my personal favorite places to get sushi. Their omakase set is under $50 for 10 LARGE pieces of nigiri. Each piece is carefully seasoned and flavored. Great option if you are looking for something slightly fancier than regular sushi but not as crazy as a $200 omakase meal. The restaurant does get very packed for dinner so I highly recommend that you call in the day before or at least a couple hours before to check for open reservations to reduce your waiting time. The restaurant is moderately sized with a moderate amount of seating.

Tried Amami for the first time and got the: - Chicken Karaage: 4/5! It's not the typical karaage meat shape and more small tender like, but I actually like that! Good seasoning, just wish there was more since there was a big gap under the top chicken lol. - Red and White Roll: 3.5/5! The soft shell crab roll was really good, but I felt like the fish wasn't as fresh. - Lover's Boat: 4/5! Great mix of different fishes. The salmon was my favorite! Appreciated the tea on the house and the servers were nice!

Roomier than the SSF location and has a little parking lot which is a big plus. Also not as quaint or upscale but more of a get the food in my tummy and don't worry about nothing vibe. I'm working and I'm hungry so let me eat and watch some tveeeeee. All kidding aside, the place has the same menu and plenty of fresh fish to select from. Rolls are tightly rolled with a good selection of toppings. They also have the Omakase Sushi of 10 chef's choice with fresh wasabi. Good service, roomy restaurant, no frills and a small parking lot with one handicapped spot. Street parking also available on busy El Camino Real.

Taste: 4 Creativity/Authenticity: 3.5 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Bang for your buck: 5 Everytime I'm in SF and looking for sushi Amami always pops up, it's like LA version of katsuya. A good selection of fish, with many specials too. So of course I had to try after reading the reviews and had to get the infamous omakase. I have to say for the price and the selection of fish it's a great deal! My only criticism would be the cutting of the fish, def not very traditional, portion size were all over the place but still good. Service here was great, fast, attentive especially how busy this place got. Overall great experience and best part is the price, I usually walk of a sushi restaurant no less than $120 and this place to my surprise was less than that for all the sushi I got! Will def be back

Can't get enough of Amami's Omakase!!! Great nigiri pieces, super fresh and delicious sashimi, coupled with a clean environment and always friendly and efficient service.. this place just keeps me coming back over and over again. My default is their Omakase... 10 pieces of deliciousness ... always super fresh and just YUMMY!!! The service is prompt and super efficient. They never miss a beat in refilling your water or tea glasses, and always ready to get you more ginger or wasabi. Another great meal at Amami!! Thank you!!

Large pieces of superbly fresh fish with individualized flavorings for the $42 omakase makes this a great seal! Definitely better than anything in the South Bay--worth a detour!

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. The best sushi rolls, fresh sashimi and amazing service. Always consistent and satisfying.

The sushi here is always fresh and reasonably priced. Each piece in the omakase is wonderful, I especially love the scallop! Staff is friendly and usually offer a free scoop of ice cream at the end of your meal. Casual spot for dining, good for families and big groups. Parking is limited as they have a small parking lot. Better luck with street or residential parking in the area.

to start off, it was great news hearing that there was only a 5 minute wait - on a Friday night too! immediately after sitting down we were served the wasabi and ginger plus what seemed to be ochazuke/non-caffeinated tea (I would know, I had 3 cups and 0 jitters) - just be warned, there's a bit of rice and leaves at the bottom if you get to the end of the cup like I did. you HAVE to get the omakase here. I mean the fish to rice ratio? each piece took me 2 bites (but please, don't ask me what the fish were) they also didn't tell us what order to eat them in but it was still a delicious meal. $42 as of recent. agedashi tofu: very light but crispy - I've never had it without the broth but the sauce? tastes JUST like that broth but it has a more oyster sauce texture to it. very filling. whole squid: not rubbery, the tentacles are all connected so the "little" piece of tentacle I thought I was getting was connected to the "knuckle" and another tentacle. comes with a good ponzu sauce, and the lemon is a must. special roll: it was good! unagi and king crab inside :) double tuna: spicy tuna inside and topped with tuna. I was too full to eat more but I'd definitely get this again. chicken kara-age: very light, also used the sauce from the squid + lemon. and so crispy! comes with complimentary ice cream: green tea and sesame were 2 of the options (I can't remember the other one), but definitely get the green tea unless you truly like sesame flavor - it's not black sesame. overall, I haven't been here in a while but the food quality hasn't changed. we came about an hour before closing but even for a Friday we seemed to be the last big party (of 4) to sit.

My husband and I always enjoy their raw bar here. Amami has always been one of those places for us where we dine if we are willing to spend. We see other customers order fusion rolls and tempura, but we always stuck with their raw bar. Truthfully, I would not recommend this as a place to sit and hang out with friends for more than 90-120 minutes. You won't be kicked out, but the team is hustling to manage a small restaurant space and serve all their walk ins for the evening. I encourage you to finish your meal and have a nightcap elsewhere. Start with their omakase and try their nigiris. Enjoy!

Amami is easily one of my favorite places to get sushi in the area. Maybe even the Bay Area,. Actually, maybe even the state. Not only are the individual roles really good, but the omakase in my opinion is top-tier. A fraction of the price for what you'd expect to pay at a traditional Omakase. It comes on one plate, which makes it easy to eat and a nice photo opportunity. I just wish there was a little card telling us what we're eating. Something else that sets this place apart as they are able to accommodate those who have food, allergies. My daughter has an allergy to a few things and they were able to accommodate her. Easily one of my favorite sushi. This is an easy recommendation for me to give to friends visiting out of town.

Parking is limited to street parking. A few notes: * Not everything in the store is labelled with prices * Hot food was pretty average in my opinion * Price vs value wasn't great in terms of quality of food Onto the hot food: * butter mochi - definitely the best thing we ordered here! Chewy buttery and soft in texture. Don't skip this. * garlic shrimp- this was recommended by the cashier but it was quite lacking in depth of flavor with the primary taste just being garlic. No spice, nothing special to stand out. After a while the sauce gets tiring. Mac salad was prominently peppery but bland in both texture and flavor. * Mochiko chicken - Not bad, crunchy battered chicken. Interior of the chicken was juicy but lacking in that distinct strong sweet savory that mochiko chicken is known for. Again, the mac salad was a letdown. Overall, the food was quite average especially for the price point. I can think of two places in SJ with better Hawaiian food for half the price.

The fried bread was bland, the meat had little to no flavor, and there was far too much lettuce. The beef and broccoli was dry and also lacked flavor. The fried rice was the worst dish we tried, even after asking for soy sauce (and only receiving three packets), it didn't improve. There were a few highlights: the dumplings were good, and the egg rolls were just okay, though they had an odd flavor I couldn't quite identify. It was some kind of spice or herb. The General Tso's chicken and garlic orange chicken were both solid, and the chow mein was decent. Ordering was frustrating. Several items we wanted--the pineapple beef, shaking beef, and Kung Pao chicken--were all unavailable. We also tried to order a pineapple soju, but they didn't have it, so we settled for peach instead. The decor was nice, but the dining experience felt lacking. Food was served in to-go containers with paper plates, cups, and plastic cutlery, which took away from the experience. There was also a language barrier with our waiter, which made communication difficult--especially when asking questions about the menu or trying to place our order since the QR code system wasn't working. OVERALL, not an experience we would repeat.
