It's a big restaurant, so they can easily seat a large party, which makes it perfect for celebrations. We've done family gatherings here and it's never a hassle. My favorite is the salmon risotto -- creamy, with a hint of lemon and bits of wilted spinach mixed in. It hits every time. My family has tried a bunch of other dishes too: the cod with capers, sirloin steak, mac and cheese, and burgers, and everything has been delicious. We came here for breakfast and had a really good meal overall. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, and my husband had the Fish Po' Boy. The Fish Po' Boy was absolutely amazing. We would definitely order it again! I liked Eggs Benedict as well. The only downside for us was the atmosphere. We really enjoy places with lots of natural light, especially in the morning, so we didn't understand why all the lights were turned on when there was already plenty of daylight. We originally had reservations at another restaurant in the city, but they were canceled due to a power outage in the area. We quickly had to find an alternative and decided on Jack's. Despite the restaurant being pretty packed when we arrived, we were seated right away. Our food came out in a timely manner, and everything we ordered was delicious -- the shrimp scampi pasta, truffle fries, and rigatoni were all great. We have been customers of Jack's Restaurant & Bar in San Bruno for many years. In all honesty, at one of our first visits, I found the breakfast to be unexciting and dinner to be mediocre. So, we took a hiatus of a few years. Fast forward to post-Covid times when we rediscovered the restaurant just down the street from our house. From then to present day, Jack's has been one of our regular eateries from where we order take-out. Nothing wrong with dining in-house here, but since the pandemic, we have just gotten very comfortable with bringing food to eat at our own home. The venue always appears clean and tidy with a family friendly environment. My only complaint about their place is that the private parking lot is a bit tight, so parking large SUVs or bigger can be challenging. Good food at really great prices is what reels is in again and again. My #1 go-to is the GRILLED SALMON. At $25.95, it's a fabulous choice for a perfectly cooked fish with a side of broccoli and rice pilaf. I also love their CHOPPED CHICKEN SALAD ($21.95), but with crispy chicken instead of grilled. DJ is loyal to the BLACK SHEEP BURGER (VEGETARIAN) for $18.95 and the boys like their REUBEN ($19.95), RIGATONI DI POLLO ($21.95), CAESAR SALAD ($13.95) + Chicken ($5.95), and more. What is really worth mentioning is their awesome service, even when calling to place take-out orders. No mistakes EVER, something you can't say about many other places. Well ... I wrote a rave review about the French dip. So, let's see what's next? Right? Order a Ruben dinner, over cooked meat, minimal sauerkraut and very little dressing. Then there was tonight. 1/2 fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. The outside of the chicken batter was dark brown (over cooked) the inside still had uncooked batter. Grease too hot. This is my 2nd time to this Jack's location as the closer one to me is the one in San Mateo. I actually like this one a bit better for the seating arrangement in the side room as well as it seems a little more cozy. I did not know this but they have a Happy hour special from 4-6 where in addition to your entree you get soup or salad and a drink. We happened to go at 5:45 because we wanted to beat the dinner rush. I didn't know we would run into the happy hour rush, almost all of the tables were full there on a Saturday early evening at that time. Luckily there was a few open table so were seated immediately but the place was pretty packed. I got the Half fried chicken which was fried well and had good seasoning. Also was able to get an Arnold palmer for my drink. Half Lemonade, half Ice tea. Service was very good, drinks came out fast and the server and the manger stopped by a couple of times while dining to check to make sure everything was good. Spaghetti Carbonara: This was ok! Needed more flavor and the chicken was rubbery. California Mac: Also very bland, we've had this at the San Mateo location and this tasted way different. To be honest, the San Mateo location was good, this location was not. The food was bland, and the ambiance wasn't great. It was so loud, it felt like you could hear everyone's conversations! Jack never disappoints me. I came at 5 p.m. on a Friday night and was lucky that there was a table available at the bar. We started with a lemon drop and a margarita. For appetizers, we ordered the Asian wings, calamari, and chili nachos. We also ordered a New York steak meal, which comes with soup. The service was quick, as always. The place was about 80% full when I arrived. I had a frozen mojito mango flavored. My husband had a jacks sweet tea. We ordered the zucchini cakes and coconut shrimp. Loved both of it. I thought the shrimp needed a different sauce to dip in. Their French toast and bananas is soggy and SWIMMING in syrup. The excessive amount of syrup makes this dish sickeningly sweet. I was forcing myself to eat more of it just because we paid for it and I was starving. We were unable to finish it and it wasn't because we were full. The classic burger with Swiss cheese & garlic fries $19.75 wasn't as good as last time. It was dry. They do give you a side of white truffle aioli sauce. It didn't help. Chef(s) were derelict tonight. When the burger first arrived, it didn't have garlic fries. I had to send it back. They fixed it within minutes. I didn't say anything but this burger usually comes with a slice of pickle. On the beer taps were Coors Light, Stella and Modelo. I picked Modelo $8. It came with a wedge of lime. It was my believe that lime wedges were only included with Corona, Dos XX, Pacifico or Tecate. This was refreshing as the tangy lime made it less sweet. The mimosa was fresh but had a bit of a bitter note--possibly the orange juice or maybe too much sparkling wine--but honestly, I enjoyed every sip! My husband chose the Santa Fe Omelet with hash browns and whole wheat toast, while I went for the Monterey Omelette, swapping out the hash browns for a lovely cup of fresh fruit. We both agreed that our omelettes tasted incredibly fresh and delicious. I could really savor every ingredient! And if you go, you absolutely have to try their salsa verde on the side. Made last minute plans to watch the Niners game on a Saturday evening and surprisingly got seated right away! This is definitely a great spot to watch the game with great food. There are two rooms, one with two larger tv's, then the room with the open kitchen and smaller tv's at the bar. I found the tv's in the room with the kitchen to be a bit small, but it sufficed. The service here was excellent! We came at the second quarter and stayed until the end of the game, and we did not feel rushed at all, which I really appreciated. We were always being checked on, and when we placed food orders, they'd come out really fast. There weren't many pieces with the tentacles. It was good with the aioli and cocktail sauce but was on the lukewarm side like it had been sitting out for a while. For the mains we had the spaghetti with clams (white or red sauce is offered). I chose the traditional white. This dish was good with a decent amount of chopped and fresh clams in there. We also had the Yankee pot roast. This was tasty as well. The beef was quite tender and on a bed of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I loved the generous portion of vegetables.
