Update: I'm not sure if these are new owners, but the quality of the food has gone down significantly. I had my usual garlic prawns and it was not good. The rice tasted like it was cooked in too much water, the sauce tasted like mayonnaise... not sure where the garlic was in the sauce because I didn't taste any, and there was no side salad. The sauce used to be buttery and garlicky, now it's bland and the mayonnaise consistency is unappetizing. Definitely not worth the price increase. read more

This place isn't what it used to be. Portion sizes have shrunken drastically and the price has only risen. The whole point of coming here was for the big portions and good food. It's no where near worth it anymore. Today was probably my last time here, I paid 20$ for a to go box full of white rice a few pieces of katsu (7) and a small scoop of Kaulua pig. In a sea of choices Aloha Plates stood out. Super friendly folks serving island style food that is fresh and delicious. We tried the K & K special as well as the teriyaki combo and some shrimp Musubi. K & K special the pork was tender and seasoned perfectly. The chicken Katsu was lightly breaded and served with a REALLY yummy sauce all served over steamed cabbage with a side of rice and choice of salad, I chose the pasta salad of course and it was the perfect island style pasta salad mellow and sweet. I ordered take out and had it deliever to me so I can only speak about the food. I had Grubhub deliever it to me and they were pretty fast. When I got my food, my food was still warm. I ordered the chicken katsu plate with rice and mac and also got 2 spam masubis. The chicken katsu was okay. It was a little dry but the sauce definitely helped. I really like the mac. I thought it had really good flavor and they put it in a separate container so it doesn't touch the other food which I liked. I have to say I've been to a handful of hawaiian bbq spots back home but their spam musubi is a winner. Just enough seaweed, the spam isn't over cooked, good amount of rice. Pros- The food itself is somewhere between "decent" and "good". I am from Hawaii and had everything on the menu back in Hawaii, and it doesn't compare, but I don't expect the same tastes outside of the islands. It is decent 'plate lunch' food. I already love going to Uwajimaya but now that I can get a Hawaiian plate lunch of garlic prawns and salad here I love it even more! I don't know what it is but I just love garlic prawns made Hawaiian-style. They certainly aren't the most healthy thing in the world but boy do they satisfy my hunger. Whenever we're on a road trip that passes by the Seattle area, we tend to make a pit stop at Uwajimaya in Seattle. This way station to the weary is located in the International District of Seattle and is a Japanese grocery store that contains a food court as well as an attached book store. On this particular road trip, I decided to try out Aloha Plates in the food court (I guess I was just missing Hawaii). I ordered the Kahuku Prawns ($8.50) with rice and macaroni salad. By the looks of it, this is a fairly authentic plate of shrimp... right down to the macaroni salad. However, the tiger prawns lacked the garlicky flavour that I'm used to from Hawaii. Whatever.. no soy sauce for my white rice, no spicy sauce to change the flavor profile, and a plastic fork when I prefer chopsticks. Walked over to Hot Rocks to join the PLC2 dinners and surveyed the haul. Ton-o-Food, $9.05 tax incl. They don't over rice like they used to, just a nice ice cream scoop ball, another of some really good Mac salad (a touch to soft) and a glorious pile of Kalua shredded pork, sopping over a layer of cabbage. If it's done right, not too dry, you'll have a nice pool of juice in a corner. Dip the meat in there as you go. Yummy. My portion felt like 2#, too much to eat for lunch, but I did it anyways. There are a few places you can count on in the food court of Uwajimaya and this place is one of them. Their menu is simple Hawaiian comfort food served with an ungodly amount of rice (white or brown) and your choice of green salad or macaroni salad, the latter being the more popular choice. You can easily split a combination plate with another person or have enough leftovers for another full meal many, MANY hours later. I suggest the K&K Combo with the Kalua Pork* and Katsu chicken, brown rice + macaroni salad. On another visit, we ordered the Kalua Pork* on its own with the steamed cabbage. When it's dreary out, my boyfriend orders (and enjoyed) their saimin with chicken katsu. And I confess to have succumbed to the craving of Spam, scrambled eggs and rice - a true Filipino comfort food! They have free samples of their chicken katsu and teriyaki chicken, sometimes they also have small wedges of their fried banana. I've had friends order both of those items after trying them and they were pleased with their food. If they still do their punch card, go ahead and start one. Don't forget to have them validate your parking ticket. They'll usually do two hours for you even if you are under the $15.00 mark. *Usually QUITE salty, drink ample water during consumption. I don't remember ever having a patty as hard and dry as this one was in a restaurant setting. I have mediocre kitchen skills, and I can do a much better job with a patty. Macaroni salad was flat. I know it's not supposed to be too boldly flavored, but I couldn't even taste a hint of salt, pepper, or celery in this one. Gravy could also use more thickener and seasoning. Located in Uwajimaya, this place serves up satisfying Hawaiian dishes to the masses. I've come here multiple times and have explored much of their menu. I haven't had anything that blows me away, and it is a bit pricey, but the food is delicious nontheless and the employees are super friendly. My recommendations would be the Huli Huli chicken, garlic prawns, span musubi, and fried banana. You get the option of a side salad (mac salad or regular) and white or brown rice. Expect to spend between $12-$15 for one person - like I said, a bit pricey. I think a lot of people lean towards the kalua pork since it's a very traditional Hawaiian dish. Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't a fan of it here. I'd stick to the recommendations above, or try their burgers (I see a lot of people ordering them). Since it's in Uwajimaya, just park in the Uwajimaya parking lot. Knock out some grocery shopping while you're at it, and you can even get your parking validated for (I think) 2 free hours. Or just visit on Sundays when Chinatown parking is free. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here - I think there are many better food options in Chinatown. But you if have a craving for Hawaiian food, this is your spot. read more

I haven't been to Aloha plates in a while due to construction and Covid. I was gladly surprised it has changed owners but kept the staff that makes the same quality yummy dishes.
