Staff was pleasant but we had to wait a long time for a takeout order of food that was barely edible. The chicken cordon bleu wrap had something hard and bitter tasting in it that we couldn't figure out what it was. Tomato slices on my sandwich were way too thick. Alexis is exactly what I expect from this sort of diner - lots of shiny interior and exterior, the wall of desserts when you walk in, a variety of seating, and a menu thicker than some of the books on the NY Times Bestseller List. There was quite the variety of specials too, included both in the menu and on the whiteboard as you entered. Our food came out fast and was well prepared. I especially liked that the side salad that came with my dinner was really fresh. My dinner this evening was a vegetable lasagna. It was a good proportion, with lots of fresh zucchini, mushrooms, and layers of ricotta, and it came with soup and the aforementioned salad. We've been going to Alexis Diner in Newburgh for over 30 years, they have seen our family from the beginning and how it's grown. Always friendly and always asking about the kids. The many memories of friends laughing, some now that have passed. The many late meals after school plays, sporting events and sometimes after weddings where the food wasn't great. Today that all changes for me because I had never been so humiliated and angry at the way I was treated with my son. We've always waited online to be seated, even when the lines were long, especially on Sunsay mornings. Today some jerk, that wouldn't wait, went right to the front and was seated before us. Even the jerk's wife told Jeff (who I've know for 30 years) we were there first. When I asked why they were seated before us? It was implied that I was a liar and immediately he became confrontational. When I asked Jeff why this was the case he told me they were first. When I tried to explain it to him he decided to raise his voice creating a scene, even went as far as to state that I wanted to "punch him in his face" which was an absolute disgraceful statement to make in front of my son. Sorry Jeff, your aren't worth it. It was at that point I realized my family and I didn't matter and I left taking my business with me forever. To my family, friends and colleagues I've met at the diner over the many years I will never step foot in that establishment, especially as long as Jeff is working there, or until my son and I get an apology. I was so excited about coming to a diner for breakfast. Nothing went right and everything went wrong. My eggs were cold, my bacon was soggy, I asked for well done toast: they brought it burnt. Then it came back sort of toasted on one side and not on the other. SIGH. The waiter doesn't seem interested in giving me any more water. Couldn't get a cup of coffee because he won't come back. This is a must! True New York diner! My husband went to West Point & started going there 30yrs ago. Now we make a point to stop there every time we travel through from Cincinnati to Boston. We stopped today for lunch and as always it did not disappoint! They did a great job of offering indoor & outdoor seating with lots of social distancing & the staff is super friendly! Only about 3% of happy customers actually leave reviews...and Google's structure is that one customer can only give one review for a specific business. So that means this local diner has had about 1 million first time customers??? Next to impossible. Also it's completely impossible to get almost every customer to give 1 paragraph comments with their reviews And an average of 4.5 stars?? There are services that sell 5 Star reviews on Google. Just FYI. Our experience: This is a local diner but off a highway. Multiple listings for this local diner post hours of either 24/7 or 7-12. Its website says "round the clock" service. This is all simply not true. We saw the local diner from the highway...all lit up. Bright - and cars in the lot. So we pulled off the highway and entered at 11:32pm. We stood at the hostess area to be seated. Two minutes later a short, stout woman came up to us with a face that had obviously not smiled in about 13 years (poor thing) and just snapped the words "too late we are not seating anymore tonight it's after 11:30 and you're too late" out of her mouth with an air about her similar to a disgruntled DMV worker who could care less that you waited in line over an hour just to tell you "wrong line...next!" So we asked to speak w a manager. She huffed and went into the kitchen. A few minutes later a tired, disheveled, sweaty man appeared and walked up to us. He also dismissed us without even an attempt to try and help or accommodate us with even an offer for something simple since we told him we pulled off the Highway bc the diner was lit up and bright etc. We expressed our utter disappointment and vowed never again to enter their doors. The majority of food service companies suffered almost irreparable financial losses due to Covid. And almost every restaurant we visit goes to great lengths to satisfy and accommodate customers...except for this local diner. If they stop seating at 11:30pm then perhaps a CLOSED light box sign readable from the highway would be nice to help customers know not to waste time or energy going there. If they insist on hiring low caliber people to deal with the public, they could at least train them via some YouTube videos (free) on the importance of a positive customer experience. 3,400 reviews averaging 4.5 Stars??? Something doesn't line up. Perhaps Google needs to do its job and audit these reviews and determine if they are fake and purchased. The way we were treated cost them a decent amount. A retail customer - one which every retail business knows is a potential repeat customer - is worth thousands of dollars yearly. It's services like this local diner's careless mistreatment of customers that is costing them many thousands of dollars annually. And maybe that's why they need to close so early. It's their fault. And it's the snake eating its own tale. A vicious cycle. We stopped at Alexis Diner to eat lunch on our way to Gardiner. Restaurant was busy, always a good sign. Took us a while to get seated and place our orders but the food came out pretty quickly. Our waitress was sweet and friendly. Everyone was hungry and the food was worth the wait. Kids ordered the hot dog and cheeseburger from the kids menu. Both came with French fries and a drink. DH ordered the avocado BLT and I ordered the small Greek salad from the lunch menu. Both came with soup, we ordered the clam chowder and chicken noodle. We gobbled up almost everything. Alexis is at a great location at the crossroads of highways. It is an easy location for a diner fix and a shake or booze. Tables turn over fast! Meals are heaped and solid but lack a bit in flavor what they gain in heft. Waiters are run-of-the-mill, nothing too fancy, just a diner. This is one of the best diners I've been too in a long time. Brightly lit, "Greek" murals on the wall, open 24/7, cheap prices, massive portions, quick service, and solid food. We ordered the appetizer sampler where you can mix and match different options. We ordered chicken wings, chicken tenders, fried ravioli, and fried zucchini sticks. Everything was delicious, the chicken wasn't dried out, the fried food wasn't mushy. Comes with a side of marinara sauce. We also ordered the Greek salad and matzoball soup. The salad was huge with olives, tomatoes, stuffed grape leaves, onions, anchovies, and feta. Also a good choice. The soup was good but could have used more seasoning. I ordered the griddle combo: 1 pancake, 1 piece of French toast, 3 pieces of bacon, 1 sausage, and 2 eggs. Delicious! And they soft scrambled my eggs perfectly. My partner ordered the Greek combo, which is made up of these meat pies, almost like Greek lasagna. You get three: pistachio, spinach and feta, and moussaka. Good food and very hearty! Located off of interstate 84 and 9w Alexis diner is a frequent stop for many people traveling both to massatuchetts or south to Florida. I have eaten at Alexis diner multiple times. I have never had a bad meal here. The portions are huge here! You get a lot of bang for your buck. As far as the menu is concerned. Alexis diner offers everything you could want. Breakfast lunch and dinner items. The best part about a diner like Alexis. Is if you don't see any item on the menu that you like. They will make you whatever you want! The breakfasts at Alexis diner are really solid. I usually come and get breakfast here. It's cheap and there is always food left over to take home. The past few times I have eaten here. I have ordered the turkey bacon panini. Another item that is really good is the cheese steak wrap. One of my favs is the triple decker sandwich with turkey. Overall. Alexis diner is a really solid choice in Newburgh for 24 hr food. It's extremely close to 84 easy on and off for anyone traveling. Food is consistent. For the price can't beat it. What is up with that "Yelp Likes Us" sticker on the door? There should be a Yelp team set up to remove stickers after real reviews and ratings catch up to a sub-par establishment. The exterior is like that of a typical diner, shiny. The interior is like that of a typical diner, but old school. Not old school in the cute, retro way; old school in the dated way. Whatevs, we ordered our food to go. There were four of us: two who have been there before and two first timers. I was one of the first timers. I ordered a pastrami Reuben. Simple enough, right? It was absolutely disgusting! My rye bread was completely soggy. I'll let that one somewhat pass since we took our food to go. The pastrami tasted old, was overcooked, and extremely dry. It was obviously reheated on the griddle and not fresh. The cheese was hardened and rubbery, also from the griddle. The sauerkraut was bland and soggy. The coleslaw was bland and soggy. The pickle was bland and salty. There was not a single thing good about this meal. NOT A SINGLE THING! The other first timer ordered a Philly Cheesesteak. He wanted it on a hero, like a typical Philly Cheesesteak. The menu said it would be on a roll. He went back-and-forth with the person taking on order to see how we can get it on a hero instead. It was frustrating to watch. The guy was not clear in the way he answered questions and in the end, pointed to a hero-like photo, saying it would come like that. Okay...so we ordered it. The Philly Cheesesteak came in an open-faced sandwich on a flat, round roll. Read that last sentence again and tell me how that sounds? The meat, again, was dry, tasted awkward, and bland. Neither one of us could finish our food, nor did we want to save any of it, and we're a pair of gluttons! Terrible customer service. My party was first erroneously charged for an item and then disrespected by both the waiter and the manager at the counter when we tried to get the item resolved the night we ate there. I messaged them on FB later to express my discontent. No response for two weeks. I then called to speak with a manager; I prefaced the call by saying that I had a complaint and did he have time or should I call back later? He asked what the problem was and, when I told him, started telling me that I was in the wrong for waiting so long to call and for calling at such a terrible time and that he had 4 other calls on hold (again - I SPECIFICALLY asked if he had time for my call). In short, these guys know how to funnel people through the food chute (ie, seat, feed, and charge) but have no idea how to make guests feel valued. I will never eat at this place again until they apologize. That's all I wanted. The item we were erroneously charged for was only $4. I was never asking for anything for free. But these guys insisted on antagonizing me every step of the way. The food generally tastes pretty good (coffee is reprehensible, though); so if that's all you care about, then you'll probably have a good meal here. Don't expect to be anything other than an open wallet to them, though. They know NOTHING about customer service or dealing with their own mistakes. This is a company culture problem - as everyone seems to be united against the customer in there. They get one star for solidarity (also, because you can't rate lower than one star). Not your small typical dinner. It's a huge place with many seething places, so don't be afraid of the many cars parked in the lot, there's plenty of room inside. I really like this place. Considering there are several options in the area this is the only place I've ventured from my normal cheese burger deluxe. Their cheeseburger deluxe is pretty darn good and I've even ordered french toast at 12am on a weekend. I completely expected some toaster style french toast and it almost looked toaster style when I got it but damn was it good (and no I was not drunk at 12am either; very sober). Quality and service is slipping! I ate at Alexis twice over the past 2 weeks and was disappointed both times. I went in a couple of weeks ago for dinner with my wife and was very disappointed with the service as the service was slow....it was busy but no where as busy as I have seen it in the early evening hours. As for the food, I had the steak and lobster tail. My well done romanian steak I asked for was over done and the lobster was cooked too long. Also, the steak had some sauce on top of it that had a absolutely no flavor whatsoever (A1 made it edible) and they must have put something (lime I think) in the butter to dip the lobster in because it tastes terrible!!! My wife was also dissatisfied with her steal and crabcakes. I returned reluctantly to Alexis this past Sunday morning for breakfast on my way to New York City. I wanted to eat at Denny's, but it was out of the way and I was on a time schedule. So, I figured I would just go to alexis as I have had breakfast there in the past and was satisfied. My omelette was decent but not great and like it used to be, but the service was not good. The Maitre D was very disinterested and rude (not the older gentleman who is there inthe evening, but a younger (I believe hispanic) guy. No pleasant demeanor and interaction at all such as just throwing the menu down when seating me and looking away and snatching my card and signed receipt when I paid. The waitress was nice, but explained to me that she was not responsible for my table but would be "popping in and out" to check in me. She handed me the bill right after serving my plate and never "popped in". Very disappointing as I used to love eating at this place.
