Amazingly friendly staff and delicious food. Went in to eat and work before a "Grand Opening" at a business that partially shared their parking lot. They were accommodating all around, kept refilling my coffee, and advised about the best place to park. The omelet was made to my exact specs (light on the mozzarella cheese with spinach) and the potatoes were really yummy. Next time I'll ask for them extra crispy, but the flavor was there. Really enjoyed the seedless rye toast, which was generously buttered. Like other reviewers said, it is clean (including the bathrooms). This is not a complaint, but pointing out that there is an additional fee to pay with a credit card. If you're local, or just traveling on 84, this is a great place to stop and eat. read more

One sad fish. I had to take away my pre-covid 5 star review because it's just not the same and last night I was terribly disappointed again. In the last year I returned to this diner to find it went from yummy NY diner food to bar food menu. BUT I tried to remain faithful and support it because of covid devastating businesses. There are still some good things on the menu in person but I have ordered take out from here a few times and EVERY time I pay FULL PRICE and there is something missing. Last night it was my entree! First bread was missing from and order, then our sides were missing another night (and they always take your phone number). Anytime they could've called to say "hey we are out of this" or "would you like something else cause we don't have that?" But no. Last night I called in an order because we had a guest that couldn't have dairy and rather than tell us on the phone if the stuffed filet had any dairy the girl just rushed us off the phone. Can you imagine the disappointment of getting stuffed filet of sole WITHOUT the stuffing?! It was just an empty sad sliver of fishy fish with bones and no seasoning. I got a table pretty much immediately, my waitress was very friendly, and all smiles all the time, pretty patient too since it took me bit to decide on what I wanted to get. Hashbrowns were alright, wish I got more crispy potatoes, but it was loaded with caramelized onions rather than raw onions and heavily seasoned, which shows they tried, I give props for that. wheat toast was sightly toasted and well buttered. eggs were well done and got plenty of yolk. When we got here the place was crowded with a long line. Surprisingly we were seated within 10mins. The waiter came over quickly and offered coffee, which was good by the way I ordered the pastrami, egg and cheese sandwich with pancakes and bacon on the side. The pastrami had a very strong taste of clove. Which I did not care for, it totally over powered the sandwich, 90 percent of the pastrami was taken out so I could taste my sandwich. I would not order this again The pancakes were cooked well. My husband's sausage, egg and cheese omelets was returned because of the numerous egg shell in the egg. The waitress was very good about exchanging the food. My husband decided to change his order, asking for eggs over medium. The eggs were cooked sunny side up. (Another mistake) We did not finish or enjoy our food. This diner definitely hit the mark!!! I was working (Real estate) and showing a bunch of homes to a buyer so we had a fully packed day. It was brunch hours and my clients son was hungry so I decided to treat them to something local to the area.....Alexis Diner pop up with a good review and I said let's give it a shot. We pulled up and I noticed for a Friday afternoon the parking lot was pretty busy so I knew this place wasn't going to disappoint. We walk in and we're seated immediately, perfect poor little guy I was with was so hungry he said. My only complaint I'm going to get out of the way now because it's not even a big deal... the booth we were seated at was a little sticky on the outer edge of my side of the table.... WHATEVER not a big deal I wet a napkin and we were good. Our server was instantly at the table serving waters and coffees, knew to grab a kids cup cause she seen us walk in. Our order came out quickly, hot and exactly as asked for , didn't even miss a condiment request!! Coffee refills were not missed, which were needed my day started at 545am being I was coming from queens. All our foods was soooo good, my buddies fries looked like the crunchiest fries I've ever seen a diner produce while being soft on the inside like a potato.... Ate there for breakfast last week first time in years and I don't know how you can mess up toast,eggs , bacon and potatoes but they did. To top it off the waitress was screaming from one table to another that there actually was an echo in the part they put us in which was a small part isolated from the big part of restaurant. After fueling up my car I needed to fuel up myself. Pulling off the highway after hours on the road I wasn't looking for a fast food place or a chain restaurant. It was just my luck that this exit I chose had exactly what I needed. Or maybe this exit chose me. When I saw there was a diner of course I gravitated towards it. Walking in here you would be surprised to find that the space is quite large. Seating ranges from counter to booths. No matter where you sit, you will be served almost immediately. I had my menu in hand and water in front of me within a minute of sitting down. I was given a few minutes to look over the menu and decide. When my server came back I had a few questions before I placed my order and to be sure of the answers she went to the kitchen to double check before my order was placed. I had ordered the open faced meatloaf sandwich which came with two sides. The side I was eyeing up was the vegetable of the day. I was concerned that this would have corn in it and because of my allergies would persuade me to choose something else. Luckily for me on this day the vegetable medley was broccoli, cauliflower and carrot in a garlic sauce. This also came with mashed potatoes. Of course gravy topped everything. This was kind of a beast of a meal. Four pieces of meatloaf on top of two slices of bread with a heaping serving of mashed potatoes all covered in gravy. The vegetables came in a separate bowl, nice touch. The vegetables tasted amazing and we nice and hot. The meatloaf had me near heaven as it was hitting spot. Mashed potatoes were a bit lumpy and thick, the kind that stick to your ribs. All in all I was happily full by the time I finished this meal and was ready to get back on the road. The one thing that was off putting about this place was the fact that I was being watched as I ate by my server. I swear every time I took a bite and looked up she was watching to see how close I was to finishing my meal so that she could come and clear the table and hand me my check. I felt at that point that I was being rushed to finish and clear out so that the table could be freed. OK by me, but this place wasn't busy at the moment nor was it near capacity, so why the rush? I kind of felt like I should have switched where I was sitting so that I didn't have to keep looking up and seeing this. Asides from this, you were a great server. read more

Since we had our two dogs in the car we ordered take out to eat in the car. I really think these guys get a bad rapport. Whether you go here at 3 AM after drinking, 10 AM for breakfast, 1 PM for early bird, or 7 PM for dinner they always have great food, and a great atmosphere. Prices are in line with any other diner, and the people there are always nice. I have been here at 3 AM in my younger years, brought my wife on a date, had some drinks and snacks, and had my whole family there. There's always a smile on my face when I leave. read more

The diner really jumped out, the way it's situated off the road, and seeing all the cars in the parking lot gave us all the assurance needed to try Alexis out. Alexis is exactly what I expect from this sort of diner - lots of shiny interior and exterior, the wall of desserts when you walk in, a variety of seating, and a menu thicker than some of the books on the NY Times Bestseller List. There was quite the variety of specials too, included both in the menu and on the whiteboard as you entered. Our food came out fast and was well prepared. I especially liked that the side salad that came with my dinner was really fresh. My dinner this evening was a vegetable lasagna. It was a good proportion, with lots of fresh zucchini, mushrooms, and layers of ricotta, and it came with soup and the aforementioned salad. All our meals came out at once, too, which is not something I always see elsewhere. I can't really fault this place in any way. It's well-prepared food at good prices with good service. read more

We've been going to Alexis Diner in Newburgh for over 30 years, they have seen our family from the beginning and how it's grown. Always friendly and always asking about the kids. The many memories of friends laughing, some now that have passed. The many late meals after school plays, sporting events and sometimes after weddings where the food wasn't great. Today that all changes for me because I had never been so humiliated and angry at the way I was treated with my son. We've always waited online to be seated, even when the lines were long, especially on Sunsay mornings. Today some jerk, that wouldn't wait, went right to the front and was seated before us. Even the jerk's wife told Jeff (who I've know for 30 years) we were there first. When I asked why they were seated before us? It was implied that I was a liar and immediately he became confrontational. When I asked Jeff why this was the case he told me they were first. When I tried to explain it to him he decided to raise his voice creating a scene, even went as far as to state that I wanted to "punch him in his face" which was an absolute disgraceful statement to make in front of my son. Sorry Jeff, your aren't worth it. It was at that point I realized my family and I didn't matter and I left taking my business with me forever. To my family, friends and colleagues I've met at the diner over the many years I will never step foot in that establishment, especially as long as Jeff is working there, or until my son and I get an apology. The Alexis diner website says family friendliness, today that statement never rang more untrue. Obviously this has upset me in enough to put this out there. I was so excited about coming to a diner for breakfast. Nothing went right and everything went wrong. My eggs were cold, my bacon was soggy, I asked for well done toast: they brought it burnt. Then it came back sort of toasted on one side and not on the other. SIGH. The waiter doesn't seem interested in giving me any more water. Couldn't get a cup of coffee because he won't come back. This is a must! True New York diner! My husband went to West Point & started going there 30yrs ago. Now we make a point to stop there every time we travel through from Cincinnati to Boston. We stopped today for lunch and as always it did not disappoint! They did a great job of offering indoor & outdoor seating with lots of social distancing & the staff is super friendly!
