What a great place, even for a couple of DINKs hahaha. Family friendly is only part of the equation, because the food and drink is seriously good. Only request would be a bit more salad dressing, otherwise we had a great time and great food served by a great staff. Cant wait to go back very soon!

Pretty good! I'd say four stars for the food and three stars for the price. Loved the truffle mushroom pizza, but it's almost $30 for a thin pizza. Solid meatballs and bread, such delicious carrots side, but the cauliflower-carrot mac and cheese with some kind of Gorgonzola (at a "kid-friendly" spot) was a miss, and the portions were small for the price. Loved seeing kids at all the tables and the offerings of crayons for all. Wouldn't rush back but glad to try it.

    Awesome menu!

Welp, this is what I get for postponing a few hours to write the first review! Never doing that again haha. I finally went to Ziggy's Roman Café earlier tonight for a 5pm dinner with some family. I've been highly anticipating this new restaurant in Dumbo to open for a while since I follow the owner Igor (as I know him from Employees Only fame so I'm a big fan)! Through social media I read that this family friendly restaurant was already super popular (and they only opened a week ago!) so I knew I wanted to get there early to beat any possible line. I hate lines. We got there around 4:45 PM and there was only one family ahead of us. By the time the restaurant opened at 5 PM, the line was about 30 people deep and I swear there were more kids than adults. I'm not sure if it was a Sunday thing but I'm assuming parents go with their kids right when it opens since they have to get their little ones to bed at a reasonable hour. I had already researched the menu before I arrived and I knew that for my first visit I needed to have a pizza (Margherita) and the Bucatini all'amatriciana. In addition to those dishes, we also got the Gemma salad, the Carciofi alla Romana (artichokes), and the pesce main dish (Long Island tilefish). I really loved the Gemma salad -- think basically a rich, garlicky Caesar salad but with shaved cauliflower added with the lettuce. So crisp and fresh! The artichokes were not what I expected but they were still good (I was hoping they were going to serve a full artichoke, but instead it was just the hearts served with lemon and mint). The Margherita pizza came out hot and crispy with fresh mozzarella, tomato, and fresh basil. All the kids around me were happily eating the pizza so I knew that was a big hit with them. I ate over half of the pie so it was a big hit with me too. Of course, my favorite my of the evening was the Bucatini All'Amatriciana -- I'm a huge fan of this Roman dish in general and Ziggy's did not disappoint! The thick noodles were perfectly cooked al dente and there was an ample serving of guanciale (pork jowel) on top of the savory sauce. I highly recommend this dish if you are a pasta lover! The service was very attentive and helpful. Every time we needed something it was brought quickly. Because this restaurant is so popular and brand new, I know there's still a few kinks that need to be worked out in the kitchen. For instance, my main course was served 10-15 minutes after the others because the kitchen was getting backed up. I'm hoping as time goes on and they hit their stride, that will become less of an issue. These are the growing pains of a popular restaurant I guess! The restaurant is large and spacious with a fully equipped bar with serving area on the first floor to the right when you enter and then two main dining areas, one on the first floor and one on the second floor. It became very apparent that most families with small kids wanted to sit upstairs because of the child play area. I only saw a glimpse of it as I was seated in dining area downstairs, but I did see parents leading their children up to the second floor to play in between meal courses or if parent needed a break. It was really sweet seeing all these families with their young kiddos really enjoying their Sunday meal together. I'm sure this is really what the owners wanted for their neighborhood which is so sweet. Oh and if it wasn't super obvious, the cafe is named after the owner's kid Ziggy! I'm guessing he's a huge fan of dragons given the design. Me too, kid. Me too. Such a welcomed addition to Dumbo and I can't wait to come back for more bucatini, pizza, and to try more dishes (I'm looking at you, spaghetti al limone)! Congrats to Igor, Helen, and team Ziggy on this fantastic new enterprise!!! Mangia con gusto!

Worth the hype! Absolutely insane calzone... That was our must order!!!…read more The pizza is also incredible - you have to try. We had a pizza + a calzone and for 2-3 people this is enough. Standard-Issue Nostalgia with a Side of Rushed Hospitality…read more If you enjoy paying in time rather than digital convenience, Lucali's reservation process is a masterclass in performative nostalgia. Arriving at 2 PM to stand in a line for two hours just to get on a list for a 7 PM seating doesn't make the place feel exclusive, it makes it feel like a punishment. But hey, we got a table, so the sacrifice was supposed to be worth it. It wasn't. Lucali is BYOB, which is fine in theory. My party brought two bottles of prosecco, fully prepared for a cozy, rustic evening. The server kindly offered to pop the first bottle, then brought out our glassware: heavy, standard water glasses, fresh out of the commercial dishwasher and literally piping hot. There is a special kind of absurdity in pouring crisp, ice-cold prosecco into a glass that feels like it was just pulled from the depths of hell. To top it off, nobody offered to keep our second bottle chilled. Minor detail, sure, but for a place with this level of cult status, the low-effort service immediately set the tone. To give credit where it's due, the ambiance is legitimately cool. It's dimly lit, atmospheric, and feels like step-back-in-time Brooklyn kitchen. Watching the pizza makers roll out dough using empty wine bottles before shoving them into the roaring brick oven gives off that warm, "Nonna's kitchen" charm. You want to love it. Then the food arrives, and the illusion shatters. Our server gave us the bare minimum rundown: "We have pizza, calzones, and tonight's special pasta." Zero detail, zero enthusiasm. We ordered the pizza and the calzone. The pizza was... fine. Completely fine. But calling this the best pizza in New York feels like collective mass delusion. If you've been to L'Industrie or Mama's Too, Lucali isn't even in the same stratosphere. Then came the calzone, which was allegedly stuffed with five cheeses. The server proudly named four, withholding the fifth as a "secret ingredient." A mystery cheese angle might be fun if the calzone blew your mind, but by the time I took a bite, the gimmick just felt tired. It was a perfectly average calzone wrapped in high-end gatekeeping. The grand finale, however, was the absolute kicker. Just under an hour into our meal, after overhearing the hostess realize she'd botched the table rotation, our server came over with an update: they had overbooked and needed our table. Her gracious solution? "You're welcome to pour the rest of your prosecco into your glasses and finish it outside!" The remaining, warm, prosecco that is... Let's recap the math: two hours waiting on a sidewalk at 2 PM, five hours of waiting for the reservation time, warm glasses for cold bubbles, middle-of-the-road pizza, and a boot out the door in under sixty minutes because they messed up their own seating chart. Disgraceful hospitality masked as old-school Brooklyn charm. If you love mediocre food, lukewarm prosecco in burning hot glassware, and being rushed out to the curb, Lucali is waiting for you. As for me, I won't be back.

I was greeted by an angel called Lisa, who was very much giving fairy Godmother of Luigi's pizza. I stumble through my order. I'm confused. I'm asking questions. The whole time Lisa is patient. She's sweet. She's funny. Makes me feel right at home. I asked for one slice of Knicks pizza but I wanted pepperoni on there. They said it didn't come with pepperoni, but the owner was sitting there like "you know what since you asked for it we'll do it for you." It's like I was heaven and was told Ask and you shall receive, we just want you to be happy! Now, I don't know what sort of crack cocaine they put in this Knicks pizza but it had vodka sauce and ricotta, hot honey olive oil and I think a pesto drizzle. Oh my Jesus Christ this was the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Savory, a lil sweet, saucy. Lisa was right, don't need ranch for this at all. Also loved the white pie. I'm so sad because I had to leave New York the next day but days later I am still thinking about this pizza. I am still thinking about sweet Lisa and just how warm and welcomed I was in the few minutes I spent in this restaurant. I'm still thinking about how delicious this slice was!!! I cannot recommend enough, 10 out of 10 you won't regret it. Tell Lisa the girl who asked for ranch and she responded "that's sacrilegious"sent you. I told Lisa I'd leave a good review and she said "we don't care about no reviews we care about getting you fed". Enough said!

I went in with extremely high expectations after seeing Barstool give it a 9.3, which is an incredibly high score. In my opinion, Dave Portnoy has a particular style of pizza that he prefers, and that definitely influences his ratings. Personally, I would not rate this pizza anywhere near a 9.3, especially considering how many great pizza options there are in Brooklyn. That being said, it is still a good slice and worth trying. I just don't think it quite lives up to the hype or the exceptionally high rating it has received.

Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered a glass of wine, a beer, an arugula salad, and our main food order. Everything started out fine, and the salad came without a problem. But then we waited. And waited. About 30 minutes after we had ordered, I asked our waiter where our food was. He apologized and admitted that he had forgotten to put the order in. By that point, we had already watched other tables receive their food, including people who had arrived well after us. We continued waiting, and after roughly 40 minutes or more, our food still had not arrived. At that point, the dining experience was already ruined and we decided to leave. Ironically, just as we were getting ready to go, the food finally started coming out. I told them we no longer wanted it. The waiter did apologize again and offered us a pizza to take with us, which I assume was complimentary, but by then we were simply ready to leave. Even paying the bill became unnecessarily drawn out. We were charged the full amount for the salad, beer, and wine. I sat with a $50 bill ready to pay, was handed the check, and then ended up standing around for another five minutes waiting for someone to actually take the money. There was no apology from the person handling the payment. I understand that mistakes happen, and I appreciated that our waiter admitted he had forgotten to place the order. But when a restaurant makes that kind of mistake, the recovery matters. After waiting that long, watching later-arriving customers get served, and then having difficulty simply paying and leaving, an apology and a pizza at the very end didn't really fix the experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I can't say the service lived up to the restaurant's reputation.

What impresses me most is how naturally Roberta's became more than a restaurant. Food, music, parties, outdoor spaces, and an extraordinary mix of people all seemed to converge here, giving the place a cultural gravity that could never have been designed by committee. It remains one of those places that instantly takes me back to my bachelor years and an especially fun chapter of my time in the city, when Bushwick felt endlessly creative, and Roberta's seemed to sit comfortably at its center. When the hype got large enough, the owner decided to start a pizzeria and the rest is not history. This is one of the more worthwhile TGTG orders to me. We visited as a stop on Scott's Pizza Bus Tour, which meant we were actively evaluating it against some of the best pizza in the city. Evaluating pizza on a tour is tricky because excellence becomes relative when you are eating multiple high-end pies in a single afternoon. According to Scott, Brooklyn DOP began in founder Thomas Ardito's apartment during the 2020 lockdowns. With his primary work on pause, he started baking pizza and selling pies through Instagram to pay his rent. People kept ordering. His friend Jason D'Amelio joined the effort, and what started as an apartment project turned into pop-ups and eventually a brick-and-mortar shop on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. That is a considerably more compelling origin story than a corporate franchise business plan. The setup in Park Slope includes a quiet back courtyard, which offered a comfortable spot for our group to sit, eat, and recover between stops. It feels relaxed and distinctly Brooklyn without trying too hard to remind you where you are. The pizza itself is very good. The crust strikes a proper balance between a crisp bottom and a chewy interior. The toppings are handled with care, from the crushed tomatoes to the fresh mozzarella. This is dough crafted by people who take fermentation seriously rather than relying on pre-packaged shortcuts. On its own merits, the pizza is a solid 4.5 stars. Unfortunately for Brooklyn DOP, it was competing on a tour against places operating on another plane. It is an excellent pie, but it was not the single slice that caused the entire tour to fall silent in collective awe. Still, that is an aggressive standard to hold against any local shop. Brooklyn DOP offers a great courtyard, a serious approach to dough, and a standout product. Landing just shy of five stars says far more about the sheer volume of elite pizza we ate that day than it does about the shop itself. Four stars. And if you are not spending the afternoon riding around New York with Scott Wiener eating pizza at some of the finest pizza joints the 5 boroughs have to offer, you can probably bump that half-star back up.
