When in New York I must reminisce and hit up some favorite spot's from years ago!! L & B Spumoni Gardens was one of the best spots to get pizza and Spumoni when I was young and lived in Brooklyn! On this trip back in time, it did not disappoint! I went with my son for lunch. We had the Sicilian Square pizza because it's what I was there for! We also bought a spumoni to share because we were full. The Spumoni ice cream was incredible! Oh my goodness, I could eat an entire Sicilian Pie all by myself! Was it as delicious as 50 years ago and all my previous visits since??? To me it was! It brought back so many memories! L&B Spumoni Gardens has been open for over 80 years! It was established in 1939. That tells you a lot! How many restaurants can say that?!? It's a well known Brooklyn, NY staple! If YKYK.

This was the best pizza I've ever had. Friends took us there for a square. They were very nice and efficient. They have really cool custom wallpaper with neighborhood photos. The crust was crisp the middle was soft and chewy and the sauce was perfect.

I live right by L&B Spumoni Gardens and it's easily become my go-to spot whenever I'm craving pizza! Their Sicilian slices are my absolute favorite, especially the side pieces. There's just something about those crispy edges that makes them even better. Anytime I have friends or family visiting, this is always a must-go spot. Such a neighborhood staple and a place I'll never get tired of coming back to!

Always need my pizza when I'm in the area. Picked up a pie and enjoyed it immensely.

The customer wasn't amazing but it was terrible. My went a different time and had better customer service. Other than that I have no complaints. I thoroughly enjoyed my food. The seats were a little close but it was fine.

I could never get tired of eating the fresh delicious cheese pizza n pepperoni pizza. Rich in quality and flavor. Must try the Spumoni ice cream flavor. Delicious and flavorful. Highly recommend Service was excellent. It was a rainy night but service was excellent.

Great customer service, great food, huge portions. Went in tonight for a ladies night and the place didn't disappoint. Cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Restaurant was super clean, and again staff were great. Outdoor seating available which is great since it's getting nicer out. They have a pizzeria outside and ice cream and all! Great place to walk by, grab a quick slice and keep going.

Great crunchy bottom, sweet sauce, doughy Sicilian slice. Grab some napkins. This was a bucket list place for me and I'm glad I went but not my favorite pizza.

Summer means..beach, feeling carefree and EATING OUT! Those hazy, crazy days of lounging, kissed by the sun and PIZZA! Gravesendians, Bay Ridgians and Bensonhurstians consider themselves lucky to live near the one and only L and B Spumoni Gardens. As we all know, L and B are famous for their king of all kings, Sicilian Square slice. This little square of perfection has delighted and mesmerized foodies who travel from far distant highways to devour this little slice of heaven. The Sicilian square "features a crispy crust, pillow-soft dough in the center, and is uniquely assembled with mozzarella cheese on the bottom and a rich tomato sauce on top". We call it the inverted pizza slice because sauce ideally is on the bottom and mozzarella cheese bubbling on top. I visited L and B for my pizza cheat on a really sunny summer like day last week and waited on line, yes, on a Wednesday afternoon there was a line.. I went up to the window and placed my order and waited ten minutes more for a fresh out of the oven pie to come out. I was asked which corner of this gorgeous pizza universe I wanted. " The slightly charred corner, please". I found my table and devoured two squares. I was getting my summer groove on. The slices were fresh, bubbly sauce, the melted mozzarella on the focaccia bread.. made my day! Is it possible for pizza to deliver this warm and fuzzy feelings? You better believe it! Ready to get your summer groove on? Then take the N train to 86th Street and get your PIZZA GROOVE on! L and B Spumoni Gardens 2725 86th Street Also, there is a DUMBO location in Brooklyn Heights close to the waterfront

I grew up going to L&B, loved their pizza and was so excited to introduce it to others. Brought my extended family here for a graduation celebration meal and was so embarrassed by how bad this world famous pizza is. The dough in the pie was raw and inedible. The sauce was the cheap cloyingly sweet kind. It was all wrong. Nobody wanted to finish their slice. But honestly it wasn't just the pizza. Everything we ordered was subpar. Dishes are heavy on overcooked pasta with too much sauce and light on actual meat. Everything is oily or over sauced. They're clearly riding on the coattails of fame and allowed the quality to plummet. Sadly I'm unlikely to ever return.

Side penne

This is unacceptable. I've called twice now about bread being tossed directly into the bag with my entrées, unwrapped, this is a serious sanitation concern that needs to be addressed. On top of that, the food quality has really dropped. The ravioli was tasteless, and the chicken was hard and dry.

I have been coming to L&B Spumoni Gardens for almost 15 years now. How have I never left a review for them until now?! And I don't mean that I came once 15 years ago, and stop by every few years. I mean, when I first ate pizza here 15 years ago, I make it a point to eat their pizza at least once a year up to present day. Funnily, though I have been coming here for so long, I have really only ever eaten their famous Sicilian pizza and sometimes treat myself to ice cream - and even then, I only eat the creamsicle soft serve. I am typically very openminded and almost never stick to ordering the same thing over and over and over again. But their Sicilian pizza and their creamsicle ice cream is just so damn good. You can never lose by ordering either of these. It brings such a smile to my face and my belly, and can highlight any bad day. The pricing of the food has definitely been increasing slowly, but it's still worth it in my book. This will forever be one of my top 3 choices for pizza. And you can be sure that I always order extra to take home!

Vivian R.

Wow. Sad to say my expectations were much higher than expected. The pizza was extremely burnt on one side. The artichokes were very overcooked and soft. The pasta was okay. Clams were delicious as well as the fried zucchini. Service was definitely a FIVE Star.

FIL tried the Ribeye Steak and my MIL had the Wild King Salmon which they liked, but I thought their highlights were their homemade pastas. I loved my order, the Tagliolini with Maitaki Mushrooms and Tiger Shrimp in Cream Sauce - delicious without being too heavy. My husband enjoyed the Squid Ink Tonnarelli Allo Scoglio which had a spicy kick and my SIL liked the gnocchi. My daughter has an egg allergy and I appreciated how the waitress made efforts to double check with the kitchen which menu items were safe. They were able to accommodate with a spaghetti with ragu sauce for my kids to share. Dessert was alright. They were very sweet with birthday candles and singing a song for my FIL. My husband loved the affogato. The tiramisu was decent. The crème brulee was an interesting chocolate orange flavor. The kids didn't care to finish their chocolate cake though, which was pretty dry. All in all, it was a great dinner. The pasta portions were smaller than expected but they were delicious and feels just right if you get some appetizers and pizza as well. Would return again for the pastas.

Piccola Cucina Casa is a charming, modern restaurant, and overall I had a pleasant enough dinner,…read morebut there were enough small issues that the experience landed closer to average than exceptional for me. The first issue is the arrival setup. There is very little room to wait inside, aside from a small area near the entrance, so depending on how busy it is you may end up waiting outside. More awkwardly, there did not seem to be a dedicated host stationed at the front during our visit. The people handling seating were farther into the restaurant, so you have to walk partway through the dining room to figure out whom to speak with, only to then be directed back toward the entrance. It is a relatively minor design and operational issue, but it makes the arrival feel less polished than the room itself. The restaurant is otherwise attractive and has a lively, intimate feel. My cocktail was fine, but not particularly memorable. For dinner, I ordered the paccheri ai tre crostacei with langoustine, lobster and shrimp. The seafood itself was enjoyable, but the pasta struck me as undercooked rather than simply pleasantly al dente. The food also came out extremely quickly, to the point that the meal felt rushed. I cannot say whether the speed directly caused the pasta issue, but taken together, the pacing and the undercooked pasta made the dish feel as though it could have benefited from a little more time. A practical note about the dish: it is very much a shell-on preparation. There was shell with some of the lobster as well, so anyone who dislikes dealing with shells should know that before ordering. Also, although lobster is included in the description, I would not order this expecting a particularly generous amount of lobster. It is better thought of as a mixed shellfish pasta rather than a lobster-forward dish. We did not order appetizers, so I cannot pretend this was a comprehensive survey of the kitchen. That is one reason I would not make sweeping claims about the restaurant based on this meal alone. Nothing about the evening was disastrous. The restaurant is appealing, the meal was perfectly edible, and there were things to like. But between the awkward check-in setup, the rushed pacing, an unremarkable cocktail, and pasta that seemed undercooked, I also did not leave feeling that I had experienced something especially memorable. For me, this was a solid three-star dinner: pleasant and somewhat above average in atmosphere, but with enough execution and pacing issues that I would have difficulty rating the experience higher based on this visit.

Overall it was good, but the combination needed better balance. The gorgonzola had a pretty aggressive bite, and paired with the saltiness of the prosciutto it became a little much. There were some greens underneath, and once I incorporated those into each bite, they mellowed everything out considerably. I actually think the greens needed to be treated as part of the dish rather than essentially garnish. For my entrée I had the special, a risotto with clams and octopus. The octopus was easily the best part. The clams were extremely small and pretty average, to the point that I'm not sure they added much to the dish at all. The risotto itself was also surprisingly bland and not particularly enjoyable on its own. Mixed with the octopus, however, it worked much better and became a genuinely enjoyable bite. That's ultimately where the dish felt a little uneven: the strongest component was carrying the rest of the plate rather than everything working together. Service was fine when I arrived, but became noticeably slower once the outdoor seating filled up. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor sections, but appeared to have only two servers, with the hostess also serving and a barback supporting the operation. Once the patio got busy, most of the staff's attention shifted outside and the indoor dining room received considerably less attention. Nobody seemed lazy or inattentive individually. It simply looked understaffed for the number of tables they were trying to cover. One additional server during the busy period probably would have made a substantial difference. And, admittedly a minor thing, an Italian restaurant having limoncello but no amaretto was disappointing. Nothing here was terrible. The appetizer had good ideas, the octopus was quite good, and the meal had several enjoyable moments. The food and service were just inconsistent enough that I couldn't quite call it a strong three-star experience, but it was close. I'd put it around 2.75 stars, which I'm comfortable rounding to three.

Of course, we did what we always do; showed up without a reservation haha... It was packed, and the hostess told us the was no way they could seat us. Defeated, we went outside ans sat on a bench trying to figure out our next move. Then the unimaginable happened. One of the people running the floor passed us outside, started chatting with us, and said, "let me double-check". A few minutes later, he came back and got us a table! He make sure we understood that we only had it for a short window bc they needed it back at a certain time -- but we got at least hour and a half to enjoy it so we were THRILLED. To us that was more than enough. He really went out of his way to make it happen, and honestly wish I remembered his name so I could give him the credit he deserves. And the service from there was outstanding. Even though we knew we had a time restriction, we never felt rushed or hurried for a second. Everything felt relaxed, attentive, and perfectly paced, which made them whole experience even better. Once we sat down, we started ordering as quickly as possible. The grilled clams were insanely good -- flavorful and with just the right little kick. The Nduja & sungold tomato toast was surprise favorite. The tomatoes were so juicy, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Simple, but SO good. The little gem salad was fresh, crunchy and exactly what we needed in between all the richer dishes. For pastas, I had the mafaldini with parmigiano, one of their signatures, and it was delicious. BUT... I have to give the win to my husband's pick, rigatoni alla diavola. I know they are completely different dishes, and Im usually a white-sauce kind of girl, but there was something about that bold, spicy flavor that just HIT THE SPOT. And dessert... The vanilla soft serve gelato and the warm rasberry tart together were the perfect combination -- creamy, warm, fruity, and just the right way to finish our lucky dinner. Lilia was absolutely worth the wait and definitely lived up to the hype. Another Brooklyn spot checked off the list -- and one I'd happily go back to.

The rigatoni and gnocchi were very good - the rigatoni was perfectly al dente paired with good flavor and the texture of the gnocchi was perfect. Highly recommend ordering these. Dessert: they definitely don't skimp on the dessert, we each got our own but the gelato options were definitely shareable. They also had amaro options which I always appreciate but didn't get this time. The space was a little cramped indoors though that didn't bother me as much as the temperature. I came to New York to celebrate her, so this dinner was supposed to be a special part of that trip. The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate, and initially, everything seemed promising. We were seated near the front, which wasn't our preferred location, but we didn't have a reservation, so that wasn't my main concern. I also appreciated that the bar was showing the Eagles game, and my friends really enjoyed the mussels and the drinks were good! The biggest disappointment was the service and THE FOOD WAS EVEN MORE. We had three servers throughout our visit, and the first two stopped assisting us without a clear handoff or explanation. They seemed irritated by our questions as we tried to understand the menu, including options we had seen online but not in person. We weren't familiar with everything being offered and would have appreciated some patience and guidance. Instead, I felt uncomfortable even trying to choose a meal. And I understand it's like a family based restaurant you know- so I expected the warm feeling of an Italian kitchen. Well NO. Our third server was much more patient and helpful, and I truly appreciated his effort. He orchestrated singing to my friend for her birthday(which they do for all birthdays ) and took a picture of our group, giving us some sweet memories from the evening. Unfortunately, by the time he took over, much of the damage to the experience had already been done. As for the food, I sent back the pasta e fagioli because it contained prosciutto. That could be my bad. Later, after discussing options with our third server, I received a pasta dish in chicken broth that was essentially a soup. It may be a traditional preparation I'm unfamiliar with, but it wasn't what I understood I was ordering or wanted for dinner. I ended up without a satisfying meal, although I did have a French 75. But like I've never seen this dish and like idk. I also asked for chicken scampi, but also was informed that scampi's only for seafood and they refused to make it because culturally not appropriate and I respect that as well but putting that out there as well. So then to get this from going from wanting an authentic pasta dish it just blew my mind. I do appreciate the third server trying to accommodate but like seriously what was this? One friend ordered the lasagna, which I would personally rate around a 6 out of 10. Another settled on spaghetti and meatballs after becoming frustrated with the ordering process. My friend who ordered shrimp scampi hadn't understood that it came with two sides rather than pasta. She ordered pasta separately, but felt it didn't complement the dish well. Not to mention that she asked for spaghetti noodles and they brought penne. I believe . I'm just confused like we didn't feel like we were being heard . Clearer explanations could have helped us make choices we would actually enjoy. It's just crazy because I really expected this to go perfectly and there's such great reviews and it's like what happened here.? If you're considering visiting, I recommend reviewing the menu beforehand to make sure it suits your needs. Be aware that some items we saw online weren't on the menu in person, and there were additional offerings we hadn't seen online. It may also help to call ahead and ask about the current menu and daily specials, although I can't speak to how readily they answer the phone. Our bill came to approximately $400, mostin our group left feeling hungry and dissatisfied. Spending that much on a birthday dinner and leaving so disappointed was incredibly frustrating. Three of us honestly wanted to send our dishes back, but in the spirit of our friends birthday, decided to just eat it up and try to enjoy the night to the best of our ability. I on the other hand on any other night might have caused more of a fuss. I can't speak to why the first two servers treated us that way, and I won't speculate about their intentions. I can only speak to how the service felt: unwelcoming, impatient, and uncomfortable. The space itself was cozy, but the energy of those interactions made it difficult to enjoy being there. I'm grateful to our final server for his patience, the birthday song, and our group photo. Those moments mattered, especially because we were there to celebrate someone special. But even with those bright spots, the overall experience was a 0 out of 10 for me. This reflects our personal visit, and based on that experience, I would not return.
