The Sicilian square "features a crispy crust, pillow-soft dough in the center, and is uniquely assembled with mozzarella cheese on the bottom and a rich tomato sauce on top". We call it the inverted pizza slice because sauce ideally is on the bottom and mozzarella cheese bubbling on top. I visited L and B for my pizza chest on a really sunny summer like day last week and waited on line, yes, on a Wednesday afternoon there was a line.. I went up to the window and placed my order and waited ten minutes more for a fresh out of the oven pie to come out. I was asked which corner of this gorgeous pizza universe I wanted. " The slightly charred corner, please". I found my table and devoured two squares. I was getting my summer groove on. L&B Spumoni Gardens is sort of a weird version of a Sicilian Pizza, but I absolutely loved it. The cheese is under the sauce here so some bites you are wondering is that cheese or slightly undercooked dough. Just fantastic. Up there with Frank Pepe's, Lucali's and O'Scugnizzo Pizzeria in Utica as my favorite pizza joints. There is heart and soul in this pizza, and history. I could eat this pizza literally 100 times. You want old school NYC Sicilian Pizza? Come here. You want fresh Spumoni? Come here. Sometimes you park close, sometimes you don't. You can eat there, go to the park, or take it home. This is where I go when I want these things. No longer living in NY, it's an hour+ trip, but always worth it. Many pizzas do not reheat well due to rubbish cheese- not L&B- pop it in the oven around 400°F, and let it crisp back up! Also- the Spumoni- it keeps at a nice consistency in the freezer, unlike rubbish American ice cream- which gets like a rock. The only other Spumoni I buy is from Corona. They're both phenomenal in their respective rights. When asked by non-NY'ers which pizza is my favourite- this is number one for Sicilian- not heavy at all. The crust is light, airy, and flavourful. The cheese to sauce ratio is perfect- not swimming in greasy cheap cheese. I have the same standards for Neapolitan Pizza. We can discuss that elsewhere. I have been coming to L&B Spumoni Gardens for almost 15 years now. How have I never left a review for them until now?! And I don't mean that I came once 15 years ago, and stop by every few years. I mean, when I first ate pizza here 15 years ago, I make it a point to eat their pizza at least once a year up to present day. Funnily, though I have been coming here for so long, I have really only ever eaten their famous Sicilian pizza and sometimes treat myself to ice cream - and even then, I only eat the creamsicle soft serve. I am typically very openminded and almost never stick to ordering the same thing over and over and over again. But their Sicilian pizza and their creamsicle ice cream is just so damn good. You can never lose by ordering either of these. It brings such a smile to my face and my belly, and can highlight any bad day. The pricing of the food has definitely been increasing slowly, but it's still worth it in my book. This will forever be one of my top 3 choices for pizza. My daughter tried her first Sicilian in Philly but being from Brooklyn I had to have her try one from L&B. We came on her Thursday night an hour before closing. We were told the kitchen was close except for pizza. We sat to dine, ordered a square pie and a round. Both were great except round could've been cooked a few minutes more. The pizza really does live up to the hype. Parking is on the street as well as next to the building. I got two Sicilian slices. One corner slice and one center slice. It has a thick crust but not too heavy, with a crisp bottom and a soft center. The corner slice had that extra crunch, the center slice had a little more of that saucy cheesy balance which I like. Both pizza slices are very light even though they look heavy. Sauce goes on top, slightly sweet, and somehow it works perfectly. You can tell they've been doing this forever. 80+ years for a reason. The spumoni was nice on a summer hot day. I got the small and it was the perfect size after two slices. Creamy, cold, and the layered flavors actually stood out, pistachio, chocolate, and vanilla. With little chunks of pistachio in it. There's nothing fancy about the place, but that's part of the charm. You order at the window, grab a table outside, and just eat. No gimmicks, no rush. I've been so excited to visit L&B Spumoni Gardens since I learned about it! The restaurant itself is really fun, with a casual family atmosphere. I believe they are most famous for their Sicilian pizza and homemade desserts, but we also saw a lot of people at other pages ordering pasta and other dishes! They were extremely busy when we visited but we luckily got seated immediately. That being said, the waiters were pretty swamped so I would not say service was quick, and they forgot something that we ordered. At least we weren't charged for it though! We ordered the L&B Famous Sicilian with Vodka Sauce ($37), Garlic Bread ($9), and Spumoni ($8). The one thing I'll say about this restaurant is it seems like the prices are high, but portions are actually very huge and generous. The food was also very tasty! We loved everything, but it was definitely too much for two people. The pizza was delicious, It was both chewy, and crispy, with melty cheese and the vodka sauce was so flavorful and a wonderful contrast with the cheese. It was also fun to decide to eat either the crispy corner pieces or the middle pieces with no crusts. The garlic bread was both crispy and soft, with plenty of garlic and butter, cut into thin strips. The spumoni was a nice end to the night, we had never tried spumoni before and didn't realize the portion size would be so big, but still really enjoyed it. The heater back there was blasting honestly so hot it had me sweating, but I'm not complaining. I came for the pizza, plain and simple. I ordered the Hot Sicilian slice and it was great. Thick crust, plenty of sauce, exactly what you expect when you come here. I wanted to try the vodka slice too, but they only do that as a whole pie, and I wasn't in the mood to take down an entire pizza, so I switched it up. I ended up getting the Shrimp Parmigiana hero in vodka sauce and started with the fried calamari. The calamari was really good and crispy, not greasy. The hero was solid, big portion, definitely hits if you want something heavier than pizza. For the kid, we ordered the mac and cheese off the kids menu. I tried it and it was actually really good, but I will say $17 for a huge bowl of mac and cheese for a toddler feels a little steep. We finished the night with a cone of spumoni, and honestly that was the highlight for the family. Everybody loved it; simple, old-school, and exactly how it should be. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff was attentive, polite, and easygoing, which makes a big difference. Third stop on my quest for the best NY pizza and I can officially say that so far, they're my #1. There are two lines outside, one for spumoni and one for pizza. One to stand in line to order and the other holding a table. We got lucky, a table opened up right before we placed ours. We only wanted the Sicilian, what some call the "upside down" pizza. I noticed that the last 2 times I came, they sneakily upsold me pizza when I ordered to go. 1 time hubby wanted to try their round regular slice as we never had it. L&B Supumoni is known for their amazing Sicilian square pizza. So we decided to order 1 round slice, and 3 square Sicilian slices. They charged me for 2 round slices (see pic) which i wouldn't know as they only give you credit card slipt but no actual receipt (who usually give receipt at pizzerias?) But it would be nice to see itemized receipt with the credit card receipt. Typically, you just order at the window and pay whatever amount they spew out at you. They usually ask "square or round" as that is the easier way for they to ask which pizza do you want. But you don't know the full price unless you do the math yourself (I wouldn't be able to math if I get a few drinks as well). And these days, with credit card fees and such, you can't really do all the math. Luckily they dont have the extra fees here (I think). Recently came here over the weekend and asked for 4 middle Sicilian square slices. Saw the credit card receipt for $20 and was confused... thought maybe it was the credit card fee... until later when they handed me a box of 5 and said "5 sqaures" while looking directly at me. You can say maybe they didn't hear me but I always stick my fingers out as I say the numbers (4 fingers in this recent visit). I said, "hii, can I get 4 (with 4 fingers) square slices all middle please". I like middle while my husband like side but not corner as too much crust. Last time I ordered the side, he said it was a corner so he wanted middle like this time. There was one additional time (but a long while ago) where I had ordered 4 square slices late at night (about 45min before closing) and they said they had a box of 6... but they said it'll be a wait so I said fine I'll take it... I guess they already had it in the box waiting to give to next person and didnt want to take 2 out. It wasn't hot but I did heated it up at home. I do appreciate the fresh hot pizza and great taste but they keep extra charging me (and yes, giving me the extra slices) but I don't want that many. I think its the same person also. Suggestion: have a computer screen facing customers that shows the itemized stuff so you know what you ordering/paying. Because the person at the window doesn't repeat the order. Came to Coney Island for the mermaid festival (which it seems like some others were doing to) and popped over here for pre-festival lunch. The seating area is nice: spacious, outdoors, umbrellas, cool scene. We got a regular slice that really could not have been more aptly named-very standard slice of pizza. We initially only got two of the Sicilian slices and ended up going back for a third's . The crust is somehow soft and the perfect amount of crispy at the same time? This is definitely the way to go. I do wish you were able to add some toppings to the slices but you can only do that if you order a whole pie. Also grabbed some soft-serve which was pretty good especially for the weather. L&B Spumoni Gardens is a historic pizzeria that opened in Brooklyn, New York in 1939. It was founded by Italian immigrant Ludovico Barbati. Originally from the small hillside village of Torella dei Lombardi, Barbati came to the United States in 1917 at the age of 22. One year later, he married Paolina Maugeri and started a family of six children. Under the mentorship of a skilled Brooklyn baker, Barbati mastered the art of pizza-making in a small garage on West 8th Street. In 1938, he purchased a wagon and a horse named Babe. Barbati went up and down the streets of Brooklyn's Gravesend and Bensonhurst neighborhoods peddling his own homemade Italian ices and spumoni from his horse-drawn wagon. In 1939, Barbati purchased a vacant property on 86th Street to build a brick & mortar home for his business. The original space served as a production facility and small storefront for his frozen treats. By the 1950s, an addition was built to house a pizzeria. It was at this time when the business was dubbed "L&B Spumoni Gardens" and the focus shifted to their delicious Sicilian-style square pizza. A full-service dining room was later added as well. Barbati passed away in 1962, but the business is still owned and operated by his family. A second location opened in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood in December 2024. I visited L&B Spumoni Gardens this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn and Queens breweries and pizzerias and this was my first stop of the day. The pizzeria had been on my bucket list for a while. The full-service dining room features a full menu with Italian entrees, pasta dishes, seafood, salads, hero sandwiches, appetizers, and pizza. I spent my visit in the outdoor garden area which focuses on pizza and frozen treats. While you can get traditional round pizza, I was only interested in their famous "Sicilian Square" (which is also available in a vodka sauce variant). The crust had a nice crunch on the outside with a decent amount of chew on the inside. The delicious sauce and sprinkling of cheese was the icing on the cake. I also couldn't leave without sampling a cup of their famous "Spumoni". For those unfamiliar, spumoni is an Italian frozen dessert layered with three flavors of gelato. Sicilian pizza square 4$, cut from freshly baked trays. Constant line means better quality. Can't reheat slices and expect the same quality. Sauce is on top of the cheese so it doesn't dry out. Different than most where they put the cheese on top. Spumoni is a 3 blend mix of vanilla, chocolate and pistachio ice milk. Not as rich as the full cream version. Pistachio has a strong flavor of almond extract. Constant line for both ice cream and pizza. Reasonable price and high quality. They probably own the land so they don't have to be as aggressive on the price increases with inflation. Keeps their volume high. One of the only pizzas which aren't overly salty. Higher quality ingredients. I thought this was way better than the L'Industrie margherita slice. Closer to something like home style pizza and not toxic salty. Didn't really matter if it was a corner piece or not. The corner pieces are crunchier but other aspects like the quality of the sauce and cheese stand out and are more important. The non corner pieces weren't as dried out. Can make these pizzas at home. Use a 3-4 in deep carbon steel pan. The spumoni was interesting. Never had it before. The contrast of different ice creams. The classic is tart orange vs. creamy vanilla. The 3 flavor spumoni combination is interesting. You can invent any 3 flavor combination. The almond extract contrast vs. creamy vanilla and rich chocolate is unique. Can make stronger and different combinations. read more

Grew up eating here and the food has always been consistently delicious!! Service always feels like family is serving you. I moved to Miami but every visit back to Brooklyn this is my first stop! They gave the place a facelift and expanded the restaurant. Ambience is very homey and comfortable. I'm coming back for lunch tomorrow!!! read more

Always in my top 3 pizzas. Service is fast and comes out fresh! This pizza is so fluffy with a crispy bottom, it's like eating a cloud. The red sauce on this pizza is insane with the salty bits of parmesan on top makes it chefs kiss!! Plenty of tables outside so you can munch on it soon as it comes out. read more
