the grandma on left and upside down on right. both top-notch !

On first visit - June 12, 2026 - I had the grandma and the upside-down slices to stay. Both were incredible due in large part to the sauce. I sat at table outside. The young guy working the counter was very friendly. I'm going back for sure. Just off the D for me.

I wouldn't be from the neighborhood if I just strolled by this staple and did not offer my words of praise. I still remember the jolt of fresh air that caught my soul when this spot first opened up. A great pizza shop on the corner of my residence? It doesn't get any more Brooklyn than this. Over the past year I have had the pleasure to sample several different slices at this neighborhood spot and I can say with absolute certainty that it always hits the spot no matter the mood or the moment I'm in. I particularly want to sing high praise to the Sicilian slices. The dough on those is the airiest, crispiest and lightest breading on a Sicilian slice I have ever had. My favorite offering has to be the vodka Sicilian slice (I am quite partial to vodka sauce) and the one here is a beautiful airy marriage of creamy vodka sauce on a beautiful light dough. Crisped to perfection and delivering an orgasm on every bite, it is arguably their best slice. The other slice offerings here aren't too far behind. The margarita is dotted with a sauce that I would say is more on the tangier side. Cheese is stringy and chewy in corners, melted just right in other places. My one complaint is that I wish the slices were heated up to a higher temperature, they do get cold if you're working through more than one slice. Staff is super friendly, accommodating and kind. The lunch deal is an absolute steal, even though I've never availed it myself. The seating area is clean and breezy on a beautiful sunny day, with Sinatra style tunes playing unapologetically transporting you back to the old school Italian version of Brooklyn we all love and reminisce about. This place attracts customers from all walks of life, everyone has a place here and that's what makes this shop a true neighborhood institution. If you are in sunset park, come by here and grab a slice! You won't be disappointed!!

I was very pleased with a catering order I placed for an event. We ordered large trays of calamari, penne with vodka sauce, linguini with clam sauce, chicken parm, eggplant parm, and buffalo wings. They were very nice and gave us two pizzas and garlic bread for free with our order. All of the food was hot and delicious. I never had such high quality food when doing large catering orders so I was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely be doing more catering orders from them going forward. Everything was clearly and nicely labeled, and they provided us with plates, cups, and utensils. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for your catering needs!

Have been seeing this spot on my way to class and finally stopped in to try a slice! It's on the main with outdoor and indoor seating. I did not see an official menu posted with offerings and pricing, but they do have paper menus near the register. As we were waiting for our two buffalo chicken and a plain slice to be heated up, a few other customers came in. It was nice to see the warm dynamic between the pizza shop staff and the customers. Feels local :) Our slices were just right. Crusty and chewy in all the right places. The slices average about $5 a slice. They are a bit thicker than I am used to, and it was more filling. Each slice was a different size, which made me laugh. Maybe some consistency there would be helpful. They also offer a full menu of sandwiches, pastas, salads and beverages.

Came here for lunch with my husband and daughter. My husband suggested this pizzeria because he orders from here with the company he works for. I wonder why it's called Gravesend Pizza although it's not in Gravesend. I liked the sign inside because I'm from Gravesend, Brooklyn. The pizza was good. I ordered the vodka and bbq chicken slices. They were very crispy. I didn't love the bbq slice, it was a little spicy for me and in comparison to other bbq chicken slices I've had it wasn't as tasty. My husband had grandma slices and my daughter enjoyed her margarita pizza. We had a nice family lunch together.

Small shop located in the Greenwood area, the service is a little slower, but the staff is nice and the food is heated up well. The upside down pizza was thick, crunchy and the sauce was fresh and a little sweet. Classic Brooklyn style pizza, I'd go for it again.

We came here after walking around in the area. The store was spacious and had ample seating area inside and outside. The restaurant had tons of pizza options available. I had ordered a large cheese pizza but had to wait a few minutes because they had none available. It didn't take more than 20 minutes for the pizza to be ready. My friend ordered a vodka pizza slice and I tasted half. It was delicious and tasty. It was filled with flavor and had the perfect amount of sauce to cheese. The plain cheese pizza came out piping out. It was a good size and had a good amount of cheese and sauce. The sauce was fresh and looked like homemade tomato sauce. However, it lacked flavor and tasted bland. It had no salt or seasoning once so ever. I am not sure if its because they were rushing to make the pie that they forgot the spice or if that's how it is made. I wouldn't come back for the plain cheese but I would get another vodka if I was in the area. Bring cash as they charge a fee for credit cards.

    Sausage, Broccoli Rabe, and Rigatoni
    Matthew S.

One day of grave hunting, leads to an afternoon lunch at the appropriately named, or rather coincidentally named, Gravesend Pizza. Upon walking in, one will notice there is nowhere really to sit, as it is mostly a takeout pizza joint. As Johnny Cash music blares through the restaurant, you see that it is much like a pizzeria of old, with slices, pies, and Italian entrees for you to pick from. Make no mistake, the pizza is the star. It is nothing to write home about, but it is solid, which is why I bookmarked it. Crispy crust, nice sauce, and a good amount of cheese. It comes out quick, which might also explain why finding it was a challenge. I also got a white slice, which is a bit bland and dense. That is okay, I will do plain every time. I also ordered a broccoli rabe, sausage, and rigatoni dish. The sausage is delicious, but everything else was over cooked. It did not help that they served my dish with plastic ware, making it incredibly cumbersome to eat. I lastly observed they deliver, so because of the decent experience, I took a menu with me and hope to order here again without all the hassle.

I stop by here w/ advice from my friend Thomas who works at a bar on 9st . They were closing up near 8pm on a weekday night so the I the lady at the counter gave me 1 oh then House. I hear there Vodka slices are good here too. It's a pretty Large menu w/ a bit of everything. I be back again to try other items on the board ...its on the corner well

Empty plate - ate it all - had to
    Don O.

Next level - like 1 up - from the classic NY slide. Well first because they also have this really nice thick crust - make sure to choose the corner (worth it!). I ordered the classic Margherita thick crush (the thin looked a little dense but I'll try it next time.). Great flavor - more than just tomato - and a nice skim mozzarella that's chewy but not greasy. Right on the corner of 4th and 34th. Worth a stop for sure. Slice just under $5. Atmosphere - a couple small cramped table if you really want to sit. Clean place. Counter more upscale.

It is definitely the best pizza in the US; I say this even after visiting Frank Pepe and Sally's in New Haven, and it's honestly not even close. On our last day before heading back to SF, we ordered a massive whole pie: half burrata, half pepperoni. It nailed the classic NYC slice with a thin, crisp crust and the perfect balance of cheese and sauce. It was so good that my daughter finished her burrata half over three separate sittings: at the shop, on the plane, and once she got home. The pie just kept calling to her! Be prepared for long lines, but it is worth it (and the Brooklyn location definitely has shorter lines than the Manhattan spots). It's not really a sit-down place, so you just have to grab a spot at the bar-top tables if you can find room. The service was good and fast. The cashier who took our order was amazing--absolutely love her--though she did forget to hand us our chocolate Bombolone. Situated at the corner of East 15th Street and Avenue J, the establishment was owned and managed by Domenico DeMarco (1936-2022), but now his family continues that legacy. Food critics and bloggers frequently rank it among the top pizzerias in New York City. Di Fara has received numerous accolades, including being named the "Best pizza in New York" by publications such as New York and Serious Eats. The New York Times described the restaurant as "one of the most acclaimed and sought-after pizza shops in New York City." In 2011, Zagat ranked it as the top pizza restaurant in the city, and in 2013, Frommer's called its pizza "the Best Hand-Made Pizza in New York City." Chef Anthony Bourdain also expressed admiration for the restaurant's pizza. I had long hoped to visit Di Fara, so I decided to make a trip from Connecticut. Upon entering, my son and I observed that it was quite busy. There is also a window for ordering, but we chose to go inside to order our food to experience the atmosphere fully. We each ordered a freshly prepared Sicilian slice. Unlike some places, there was no pre-made pizza on display. Each slice is made to order, and it takes about twenty-five minutes to prepare. When we received our pizza, it was notably greasy. The Sicilian slices resembled a full meal, topped with garlic and pepperoni. The garlic was quite prominent and flavorful, adding a nice punch which I liked. The pepperoni was crispy, and the undercarriage had a nice crunch, though it was also quite oily. In my personal opinion, it wasn't the best slice I've ever tasted. However, I understand that when the owner, Dom, was alive, the pizza was considered exceptional by many. I would rate it around 3.5 stars, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience pizza from one of New York's most iconic establishments.

Now back home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the great white north of snow that never ends, I finally tried the frozen Di Fara pepperoni pizza from Target no less. Sorry Joe's, but this is on par with your pizza (if it was frozen). Dave Portnoy was right with his high review. This pizza is very good. The thick cut pepperoni, great basil, and the crisp chewy crust was excellent for a frozen pizza. Nice under carriage as well. I cooked the pizza at 480 degrees in an electric pizza oven for 10 minutes, and the result was very good. I added a drizzle of hot honey, and it was spectacular (okay, I also added some fresh picked jalapeños as well). The pizza was hot and melted in the center, and the crust was very crisp, but still had some chew. Wow. This was the best frozen pizza I have had. Bar none. New York, you spoiled me when it came to pizza. Now I can get a taste of New York at home. Great job! I may or may not eat the last 3 pieces currently sitting in the fridge before bed.

Fresh mozzarella, a nicely thin crisped crust, sweet tomato sauce, and fresh basil makes this simple pizza taste great. The fried calamari also impressed. It tasted notably fresh--light, clean, and not overly chewy like pre-frozen versions can sometimes be. While I can't say for certain, it had that just-prepared quality that makes a difference. The Caprese salad was a great way to start the meal, with fresh tomatoes, creamy burrata, and a balsamic drizzle was a nice light start. The atmosphere leans old-school Italian, which adds to the charm and character. Service was fine--nothing remarkable, but no major issues either. That said, my overall rating takes a big hit solely for the restaurants ridiculous tipping policy choices rather than the food itself. The automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill was frustrating. The menu does indicate that 18%, will automatically apply, or will be 20% for parties of six or more. We were only three people, so it felt inconsistent and unnecessary. On top of that, the added cost for credit card usage didn't help. I don't mind tipping for good service! In fact, I tip well--but I prefer having the choice and I'm old school so it's the principle of the matter. Being forced into it, takes away from an otherwise enjoyable meal. Bottom line: the food is strong and worth trying, but the billing practices leave a bad taste. If those were adjusted, this could easily be a higher-rated experience.
