Old school pizzeria. They don't make them like this anymore. It's like stepping into the 70s, even the cash register is original. Menu is very small. It's traditional pizza nothing fancy but I have to say it was delicious. First time here even though I was born and raised in Brooklyn came on a recommendation from a friend and I have to say the Sicilian was delicious a little salty, but it was fresh out of the oven and it was very good even though from Bay Ridge I brought it home to Staten Island and it still tasted delicious so yes, I would recommend it. When you enter, there's no fancy counter slices, its really as though you are stepping back into time. everything is original about the place. I love it. They even have old school, candy machines, and soda fountains. And the prices are pretty reasonable $3.25 for a slice. If you are in the neighborhood, give them a try. read more

Live in Bay Ridge for twenty five years and this was my pizza spot when I first moved to Bay Ridge. Elegante's pizza is still delicious! Stopped by on my day off running errands and decided to cheat on a rainy day. I asked for a slice from a freshly made pie and the owner gave me exactly what I wanted: freshly made, ooey gooey cheese and hot out of the oven. Simply scrumptious! Back in Brooklyn visiting family and my normal go to pizzeria has sadly closed down. Took a little walk to the nearby neighborhood and found this gem. They don't have their pizza on display like most places but under the counter. True to a New York slice, crispy bottom, foldable and just the right amount of cheese. A lil salty but brings back fond memories of my childhood. Come check them out. They do have AC too (kind of) for those hot summer days if you want to dine in. read more

WOW! That pepperoni slice was amazing! It was piping hot with oozing cheese, crunchy crust and delicious pepperoni! I have not eaten a good pepperoni pizza lately in brooklyn, so this one made my husband and I so happy! We also tried the eggplant slice - it was delicious but the pepperoni was the star. What makes this spot stand out, to me, is that its the only pizzeria I know around here that serves focaccia pizza. Definitely give it a try when you are feeling for something with garlic and olive oil. Need to call ahead of time to avoid a 10-15 min wait since they usually dont have it already made. If you're in the mood for an authentic Brooklyn slice, it doesn't get much better than Elegante. Their plain slice is just perfect. Crust was just the right amount of crispy. The cheese was gooey. And it had that nice oily sheen that'll drive away health nuts. The Sicilian slice was also good, but I'm spoiled when it comes to square slices. Still a very solid showing. Airy crust and the sauce was great. The guys behind the counter are friendly. Prices are reasonable for a quick bite. Boycott Sal's. This is not an establishment that welcomes people of color. I have been here several times and on my last visit, I spoke with the elderly Italian from Italy behind the counter about the recent violent protests in the neighborhood. I mistakenly thought we were having a civil conversation before he said that I was instigating and that everyone is "peaceful" and then told me not to come back. Since he was not the owner, I returned and talked with another employee, a middle-aged man, who immediately became defensive without even asking about the details of the interaction. With a derisive grin, he repeatedly said that the man doesn't like to "talk politics" and to "keep silent." It seems to suddenly become merely an issue of politics when the privileged party has to confront their fragility. The acceptance of people like me is conditional on our silence. They are happy to accept our dollars but not our personhood. So they'll get neither from me. People say, "What do you expect? It's Bay Ridge" but I still expect better. This place may have been around since 1979 but get with the times. No racist pizza for me. And if that means giving up pizza from pizzerias, fine. Very friendly and quick service. The ventilation isn't superb, but it does lock in the wonderful smell of pizza being made - so wonderful in the cold days. Slices are good and not overly salty. The rating here may not reflect it, but I liked this place. The guy making the pizza behind the counter, the way he worked the dough, the size of the slices...there was plenty to like. But unfortunately, the pizza itself was not as good as it could've been. First off, the pizza is a bit doughy; this isn't always a bad thing, but the dough was pretty unremarkable. Not bad, just kind of average. The guy didn't put quite enoguh sauce on the pizza (at least relative to the cheese), but what was there was good. The cheese was definitely good quality, but that and the crust dominated the pie. But even if it was balanced better, the overall taste of it wasn't good enough to have it be a great slice. Del Mar, Amore's, Luigi's...those are great slice places. This place is above average for a neighborhood place, but not on their level. I see some good reviews here though for the sicilian, so maybe I'll go back and try that sometime. read more

This is the pizza of my childhood. For the first 10 years of my life (before my family moved to Newburgh), almost every Friday my father would bring home two pies from Elegante Pizzeria-one sicilian and one regular (for us kids who had yet to discover the rarity of an outstanding sicilian pie). I recently went back to Elegante and eating a slice of this amazing, freshly-prepared pizza brings me back to my childhood-the "good-ol-days." Eating a slice a trip down memory lane, a tasty and perfectly cooked trip down memory lane. The slices come out of the piping hot pizza oven evenly cooked and at optimum crunch level without being burnt. The crust is super thin, but the pizza won't flop and result in a mud-slide like cascade of cheese and sauce onto your too-thin single-layer paper plate. Having said that, this IS just a pizza joint, so don't expect anything more than great pizza and maybe an awesome chicken parm. sandwich. I've watched many a pizza prepared in Elegante and the care taken with each pie is amazing. Each pie gets a thin layer of olive oil and parmesan cheese before the homemade pizza sauce is put down in a layer so precise that the crust is never soggy, the cheese is then spread on with the same precision as the sauce and the perfect cheese to sauce ratio is achieved. Born and raised in BK and currently living in SI, pizza out there is hit or miss with only 3 places maybe having excellent slices. Back to Brooklyn though, the old school vibes with being cash only and only one guy running the show busting out pies, is too nostalgic.
