    Always a great selection

I used to visit here every week. Their pizza was always very tasty and the crust soft and crispy. Recently during the last year, I have found the pizza to be inconsistent; sometimes good and other times to be dry and tough. After a half a year, I decided to give them a try again. The sausage pie that I ordered last week was good like the old times but this week, it was dry, over cooked and tough. I can see that things haven't changed. From my observation, the inconsistency in the pizza is probably due to the different staff member making the pie. Also, the restaurant tack on a surcharge when using a credit card. No signs were posted anywhere in store.

    Horrible pizza

So sad that this place has fallen on such shitty pizza times. This was the go to pizza spot when I was growing up. Out of childhood memories I gave it two stars, but really deserves zero stars. The pizza seems like it's barely cooked, the sauce sucks and the cheese looks old. The service was ok. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place hadn't been updated since the 80's and looks like shit inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Very sad that they allowed this place to become so bad

They put new cheese on a old pizza? I can visibly see the old cheese underneath?

Quality is gone here. I've been a customer of JV for many years. Yesterday I called and placed an order for a whole pie + 1/2 extra cheese. I put a photo of what I received. They clearly put new cheese on a old pizza pie and sent it. It tasted old, burnt, and very sad. can visibly see the old cheese under the extra cheese side. What happened JV? Very disappointing.... And a never again for me personally. I was physically sick today after this.

Visiting friends in the area and am super grateful to have been led to this pizzeria. Right on the corner and very convenient. The pizza is super tasty and the sauce is delightful. The crunch is also notable and one I enjoyed. Will always stop when we are in the area.

The square pie is so fluffy yet crispy the crust is perfect The chicken jojo is amazing garlic bread so flavorful mixed with chicken parm huge portion of chicken cutlet smothered with sauce and so much mozzarella cheese. Chicken is so tender and well seasoned Old traditional family owned spot on 18ave in my opinion better then da Vinci

Gotta have their vodka slices. Vodka sauce here is top notch.

Not really a review but a reminiscence from my childhood. I lived in that neighborhood until the mid 60s but was back there at least 2 or 3 times a month to visit relatives. I went to grade school at PS48 in the 50s and 60s which was a block for two from J&V I remember walking to that place to get a slice and a Coke for lunch . As I remember a slice in the late 50s was .10 - .15 cents and a coke was a nickle. I also remember the pizza shops having signs up apologizing for having to raise the price to .20 due to the rising cost of Olive oil, yes they used Olive oil. Now1 that I have retired to NC a few years ago one of the things I miss is pizza that you get in the north so my solution is in attached pics of my wood fired backyard oven.

Best of both! Roni + Cheese!

Really decent pizza (is it the best, not really). The crust could be crispier. The pepperoni could be less oily... (a bit drown). And the sauce could be less salty... the dough needs a little less chew. The good: the cheesy melting goodness! Splitting the pie evenly between pepperoni and cheese! The cost is budget friendly! Fast & quick delivery.

Chicken Jojo, Plain slice, Sicilian slice

After a false start, I made my way out here to give J & V a try, as they are the competition to Da Vinci pizza out in good old Bensonhurst. Like Da Vinci, J & V is easily accessible by subway, as it is literally outside the 18th Ave station on the N train. I got $15 worth of food, three items. Is it worth it? Keep reading to find out. Plain slice The plain slice here is better than Da Vinci. The crust is cooked perfectly. There is a nice amount of herbs to make this slice more than just cheese, tomato, and bread. The sauce is light, but it adds a beautiful touch to the herbs. It is a simple but well balanced slice through and through. Sicilian slice As with above, this is also a well balanced slice. The seasoning on top of the cheese is not overwhelming, and the application of the cheese is not over the top either. The crust is ideal for a Sicilian square, in that it is fluffy, chewy, and crunchy. It simply does not feel like a misery when you eat it. Chicken Jojo I am calling a spade a spade here. This is a chicken parm sub cut differently. I did not find much to like or dislike, other than that it is pretty dense and goes down like a truck on the highway. It will put you to sleep, like in a coma, if you let it get to you. But do not expect an experience eating this. Save your money and get the pizza. On the whole, I liked this place. I think you will too as long as you know what you are getting into. Keep it simple, and you will have a positive experience.

I didn't have high expectations upon walking in. Inside looks like a typical old school pizzeria. I decided to go with a plain slice and it was good. Just the right amount of cheese and sauce. I would love to try the grandma slice soon and some of the other topping available.

I stopped by J&V on a Saturday afternoon post-grocery shopping for a slice. I heard great things about this pizzeria, a neighborhood institution since the 50s, and thought that J&V served a great, classic slice ($3). The crust was perfectly crispy and the tomato sauce was mild but sweet. This is definitely a slice that is comparable to that of Joe's, the joint I use as a benchmark for quality in NY-style slices. The interior is clean and looks exactly all the other great NYC old-school pizzerias, from the wood paneling to sea foam green barstools. There was plenty of seating available in the back when I stopped by.

    Total cost: $6.50

This is the first restaurant we've been to with 20% auto gratuity for a party under 6. But the borderline dishonest part is that the check that you sign tells you in tiny letters that tip was already added, but has huge font for additional tip and written out tip calculations, so it is very easy to tip 40% without noticing. Sometimes I do tip extra generously, but I don't want to feel like I was tricked into doing it! Looking thru reviews here, I see other people also experienced this, including people in small parties who were locked into the 20% when it should have definitely been 18%. :/ So close to a good experience, but ruined by tricksy billing.
