I had a horrible experience there tonight. The waitress got my food wrong twice, then charged somebody else's bill on my card! She said i would get a credit in three days from now. I complained to the manager, and got NO APOLOGY even. And i've been going there for 25+ years. Wow. read more

My husband and I were in town over the weekend for a wedding. He is a Tennessee alum and was worried about finding somewhere that would show the game, especially since it was a big Colorado game starting an hour later. After a Yelp search it was clear West End Tavern has great reviews and top notch service. He called before they were open to see if they could show the game. They were so nice and even offered to save a spot for us. When we arrived they were expecting us and knew exactly who we were. There was only one tv with Comcast that had the SEC network and by chance that was also the only tv with the Colorado game. Unfortunately, one lone person said they needed the Colorado game on so they changed it but were extremely apologetic. (She ended up never even watching the game and barely glanced up from her conversations and phone, but that frustration was with her. Not West End Tavern!) The bar manager bought us a round and made sure we were well fed. My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere and had a great bartender so we opted to stay and watch the game on his phone via WiFi. Our only advice would be to up their sports packages to make sure they can cover multiple games. Other than that the rooftop was great and the staff couldn't have been better! They are some of the best we've ever encountered. read more

West End Tavern - New American Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

I so rarely get to Boulder, especially the Pearl Street Mall area, so I randomly picked this restaurant to meet a colleague for lunch. When I walked in, West End felt like my kind of place, warm and unpretentious. We sat in the outdoor, rooftop seating area which was pleasant. The service was cheerful and attentive enough, but I was underwhelmed by the food. I ordered the smoked pork sandwich. Thin slices of smoked pork was served on dry (!), thick white bread with a small side of BBQ sauce. I tried to dunk the sandwich in the sauce, but everything sort of fell apart. The BBQ sauce just seemed like it was Kraft. Yam chips were crispy but had very little flavor. My companion's burger looked good - but average. Meh. read more

Classic pub fare, reasonably good at a decent price, friendly service. Nice patio on top, but usually very busy so you have to be lucky to get a spot there. The BBQ pork sandwich was good, the green chili also. I was happy with my sangria, refreshing when the weather get hot in Boulder. read more

To paraphrase The Pet Shop Boys classic hit - "West End Grrrrrrssss" So The West End Tavern was recommended by my hotel and so I headed on over in search of ribs. Then it got strange: Myself: Are the ribs baby backs? Server: Yes Myself: Great I'll have those 3-5 minutes pass... Server: I'm sorry but they aren't baby backs they are St. Louis cuts Myself: OK, that'll be fine and can I get the corn bread skillet starter? Server: Sure 2-3 minutes pass,,, Server: Oh we only have like half an order of the ribs, we'll have more in a a half our or so, or can I maybe get you a side with the half order if you don't want to wait. Myself: Oh, uhm, ok, I guess I'll have some pulled pork Server: Great 5-7 minutes pass Server: (Brings ribs and pulled pork) Here you go. The corn bread (NOTE: remember this is a starter) takes a little longer I start to eat and 1-2 minutes in... Myself: (Noticing that the pickle chips were WARMER than the pulled pork - I try to flag someone down) 5 minutes pass and I flag down a server to comment on the "pulled pork tartare" - (at least from a temperature standpoint, it had been cooked sometime that day just not recently). She agrees to get another side of them. 5 minutes pass and the side comes about (Still no starter). I call over the manager Alex and explain the story. She said "yes, I'm sorry the server forgot to put the corn bread order in". Hmmm, that is NOT what she told me - remember above she said "it takes longer than the ribs" (but it's a "starter"?!?!?)(EDITOR: I would have been happier had she just been honest with me. And at the point Alex says "Uhm actually I'm not sure what she told me...") 2-3 more minutes pass and the starter arrivees 10-12 minutes AFTER the first pass at the main course comes out. Oh and, since it's been ages since I first told you what it was, it was "corn bread skillet". So maybe by this point I was too far gone but a couple of things about the corn-bread skillet (and maybe the way they prepared it was a valid lifestyle choice - it was hard to tell) 1. It was burned on top (see attached picture) 2. It was basically like a souffle in the middle. Soft and wet and you couldn't cut a cohesive piece out of the pan ("you could use a fork, but use a spoon to get every drop") So basically it was a poorly prepared omelette (again maybe that is what they were going for) that after 15 or so minutes started a phase transition into a recognizable solid from a highly viscous liquid/pudding. In the end they were nice enough to comp for the train-wreck but I'm not sure what brings me back to take a chance. And come to think of it maybe this restaurant was, in fact, the inspiration for the song "West End Girls" by the Pet Shop Boys (alluded to at the top of this review) I mean just look at the first stanza (just replace "Town" with "Tavern" and you'll see what I mean). It certainly seems like they ate here at one point... "Sometimes you're better off dead There's a gun in your hand it's pointing at your head You think you're mad too unstable Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables In a restaurant in a West end town Call the police there's a mad man around Running down underground To a dive bar in a West end town" read more

West End Tavern - Is it cornbread? is it a souffle? Is it supposed to be that burned? - New American Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

I've been going here since before I moved to Boulder 6 years ago. Their bbq is always on point. I definitely recommend the buffalo wings, but really anything you try will be delightful! I probably shouldn't list the entire menu here... Their whisk(e)y selection is bar none in Boulder, and they have a great rooftop patio with a beautiful view of the Flatirons, plus two bars so as to not keep you waiting too long. read more

Stopped at The West End Tavern after a day of hiking. I had the sticky chicken and a delicious drink- I can't remember what it was called! My boyfriend had the bison burger and a whiskey- they had a lot of whiskeys to choose from. The food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all very good! read more

First time up in Boulder and after watching man vs. Food i had to come here as i love me some chicken wings! I was bummed that you are now only able to do the challenge a few times a year however no big - got a normal order that was amazing. Girlfriend got the goat cheese dip and a bloody Mary, probably the best i have ever had. I chose a beer off the rare list for 26bucks. I think thats high, but you cant find some on the list - the gamble did pay off as it was awesome too. We sat upstairs where the heat was on, staff was on par bringing hot food and making sure cups were full. Nice clean place that smells of yummy BBQ smoke. Next time im in Boulder i will be back. read more

We were excited to try this restaurant on our vacation to Colorado. My wife and I were extremely disappointed that her Fried Chicken Sandwich (Sticky Bird Style) was very dry but edible. My Smoked Prime Brisket Sandwich was so salty that I couldn't eat it. I thought it might be something else on the sandwich but after deconstructing it the brisket was the culprit. The waitress apologized but didn't offer to amend the bill in any way. Very disappointed for something we were so looking forward to read more

Great burnt ends and wings. My son and husband enjoyed the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches too.

Went here with friends one night and got to enjoy dinner on their awesome patio. The veggie burger I had was super tasty and came on a delightfully fluffy bun. The accompanying slaw was amazing with lots of great herbal flavors. I definitely appreciated that the freshness of the slaw. read more

Um. HEY BOURBON FANS THIS PLACE HAS PAPPY VAN WINKLE Yes, that required a major all caps. I literally haven't ever seen this on a menu before, nevermind in stock, despite all the publicity the drink gets. Why? It's incredibly rare. Experiencing it? Delicious, and in multiple vintages. Sigh. On the more Yelpy note, the restaurant is nice, hipster, decent view, and by the way Boulder is quite nice and crisp for my Los Angeles friends. The air tastes distinctly non-smoggy - I love it. But again, back to the restaurant. Fish and chips are in. I love french fries. Burnt ends were not - they were pretty dry. Mac n cheese was decent. Overall I was satisfied with the meal, and wouldn't mind coming back again due to the outdoor patio seating arrangement and all. But oh, the Pappy - some of my friends will demand a visit. read more

This place is a incredible! Some of the best BBQ I have ever had and I have been to Austin and Memphis and Nashville. If you are a serious whiskey/bourbon drinker this is your place. I created my own BTAC flight GTG, WLW, and Eagle Rare 17. Great staff and customer service was superb. read more

Delicious food, reasonable prices and get drink selection. I ordered the shrimp and grits and was very impressed. The cornbread appetizer was out of this world and the honey butter that accompanies it is a nice touch. Healthy portions too. I tried the Avery barrel aged bourbon Pump[KY]n and at 17.22% ABV it was a welcome change of pace. Surprisingly smooth and fresh. The service was great and the staff was friendly on a busy Friday night and I look forward to coming again! read more

West End Tavern - Love the sense of humor on the cocktail menu: West End Tavern on 11/8. - New American Near Me - Boulder, Colorado

We went to West End on New Year's Eve and it was not to disappoint. The scene was low key with subtle "festiveness." It's was all about good food that night. I got the veggie burger which was a total knockout! So rich and creamy with the goat cheese; and the tomato jam: oh my! I could eat it with a spoon. Good fries, great smoked meats too. read more

Food was ok, service was very poor. I think coming to work stoned probably played a large part of it.

Was helping my son get settled at CU and we stopped in for lunch. Had tables set up outside because of the virus but they had umbrellas so you could get some shade. Food and service were both quite good. The lobster roll, I assume they are affiliated with the fish joint next store, was one of the best I have had and I live in the northeast. Burnt ends were also very tasty as was my son's grilled fish sandwich. Was first time I was there but I will definitely go back next time I am in town. Good spot. read more

Sat at the upstairs/rooftop bar - cool space - great vibe. Smoked platter was good - chicken really good, sausage just ok. Barkeep was on point and knew his trade. Great selection of whiskys. The special of the night was a whisky & ice cream flight/pairing. I didn't partake but it looked cool and the crowd seemed to enjoy. read more

All the burgers, especially veggie, were great. Yummy fries. Service was pleasant and attentive. Covid protocols all good.

Stopped in for an early dinner after having a late breakfast and no lunch today. We sat outside in a very dog-friendly environment (yeah!) and were able to watch the sunset. Starting with the Yam chips and Guac (huge portion), for our meal I had the pulled pork and the wife went with the burger. Her fries were awesome and I had the house salad with lemon vinagrette dressing. Never got inside, but our staff was very friendly, definitely a place we'll go to again when back in town. read more

Stopped in for lunch on my last day in Boulder. Really enjoyed my meal. I was by myself and sat on the roof top and didn't realize what a great view of the mountains you'd have. That was a bonus in my book. As for the service, Emily was really great. The food was pretty good as well. I had the pork shoulder BBQ and I thought it was pretty good. Maybe not as good as the BBQ I used to get when I lived in TN and GA but not bad. The fries were pretty good as well. I didn't have any drinks but the selection of bourbons was pretty good and I would have loved to have tried one of the flights they offered. Maybe next time I'm in town I can give it a shot. read more

Take out on Christmas Eve. 4 stars for service as they were friendly and prompt. The space looks nice inside, and there are outdoor dining options. Unfortunately, the fish and chips were not a great choice. Fish was excessively breaded and well done. Chips were not a smart take out option as they were soggy. They were good the next day cold though with the tartar sauce which was very good. We would be willing to try another dish, probably the BBQ and visit again. read more

Stopped here for lunch on the way to move my son in at CU. They had plenty of seating and weren't busy, we got a cute table in the upstairs table. They also have moved seating on to Pearl St. bc of social distancing. I ordered the burnt ends and wedge salad, it was all very delicious. The bbq sauce with the burnt ends was YUMMY! My son got a pulled pork sandwich and it was very good as well. Everyone practiced social distancing and wore masks. It was an overall pleasant experience. read more

I have been to this place a number of times and always thought the food was good but the last time i was there was really terrible. I dont usually order the special - but they had a "burtn ends sloppy joe" and i love the burnt ends so ordered it, actually two people in my group did. We were both disgusted. It was literally ground up black gruel on a bun....no discernable burnt ends or even burnt end flavor. It seemed like someone had a clever marketing idea on how to use up leftovers at the expense of customers but this was so bad- looked like post garbage disposal leftovers. Just wanted to warn someone else in case this is still on the menu. Prior to this I always thought this place was really good but this experience has completely changed my mind. So bad. read more

We decided to come here after a hike in boulder. It was absolutely amazing. We had friends in town and they wanted a roof top patio to sit and enjoy the wonderful Colorado weather. It was a beautiful day and weather was a bit warm. The staff was welcoming and friendly. We were seated right away. They explained the menus and took our drink order immediately. I ordered lemonade and vodka and she explained they had many different flavors. Yum check them out! They also have lots of cocktails and beers too. We ordered some appetizers- let me just start by saying one of the best wings I have ever had. I always order my wings plain but the other people that we are with like them traditional. They ordered other ones and they were phenomenal, Amazing, outstanding, out of this world. We also ordered some smashed potatoes. These were also so good. I ordered pulled pork, House cut fries and slaw and it was so good other people had salads and chicken and waffles and a sampler plate which were also so good. I can tell you this that I will definitely will be back for the food especially those wings.!!! :) read more

Elevated and very creative bar food! Everything was delicious and we had a great time! Very welcoming atmosphere/staff.

Yummy, succulent BBQ! I'm from Louisiana, and this restaurant was by far the highlight of the trip. My only complaint is that the inside was a bit steamy, and there were a few flies buzzing around but it was worth it. First off, the burnt ends are a MUST eat! They are super tender and juicy. I also had my fill of the ribs and pulled pork. Again, both wonderful choices as well. If you're in Boulder, go to west end tavern! read more

The West End Tavern has an incredibly friendly and lovely crew. They were incredibly friendly and very accommodating with all my requests. Came here for lunch on a Saturday - good selection of beer and my friends and I had lunch. The good was typical pub fare, but the fries were seriously dry and old... all of us had fries (2 had reg, 1 had steak fries). My veggie burger was great and filling - well seasoned. My friend had the pork schnitzel sandwich and it was really dry. Loved the burger, hated the old fries. I will come back and try another item and hopefully add a new 5 star rating! Quick sidenote, I would like to say that our service was very nice and attentive! read more

My nephew decided to meet up for dinner at the tavern. It was an experience for us 30 y/o + ladies. It was rockin at every level of the restaurant. There was live music and a local beer being promoted with complimentary beer. The food was OK. My mother in law and I shared the pulled pork plate which had lots of hard pieces. My sister got a pulled pork grilled cheese and that was divine. The collard greens was bitter and hardly had flavor. The waffle fries are a must though! The service was OK as well. It's pretty busy so you kind of have to really flag them down. It's a cool hip place with lots of booze. If you like the outdoor atmosphere this is a perfect place. The roof top is so intimate and has a great view. Just try not to sit in the backside of the roof top. read more

Awful food. Came here for lunch with a group and omg their fries were terrible. They were chewy, dry, as if they reheated the yesterday's fries, or dumped them right out of freezer. See for yourself in a pic below. The burger I ordered was just as bad and the rest of the people (3 total) all agreed that the food was so bad. The server actually took the price off for the fires but come on... the damage is made. Not coming back here. read more

Enjoyed fresh, homemade food here on a hot afternoon. We sat in the open-air top floor (enjoyed that very much!). We plan to return during our stay here. read more

I went here based on great reviews. I ordered a beef brisket sandwich. When you're from a beef ranching family, you naturally want to see your family's legacy prepared different ways! Unfortunately, the brisket was about half fat. That's not even close to quality meat. I pulled the fat away into a not-so-small pile on my plate and ate what was left. The sandwich - sans fat - tasted okay. When I commented about the poor meat quality to our server, not a bad server, he informed me that's how "quality" brisket is. I informed him my family is a large ranching family in Montana - and that he was more than wrong - and misleading other customers I heard ask him if the brisket was lean. He sheepishly backed off his previous statements and said that what he was told. The brisket we were served I wouldn't feed my dog. It really was that bad. Everything else was okay. I wanted to love this place, but it seems they are riding on their reputation in a visitor Mecca and not so much about quality fare. I cannot recommend their brisket. Perhaps their other food is better. read more

This is a really good restaurant. The chicken quality is fantastic, the sauce is superb, and just how well everything goes together in the recipe is amazing.
