My favorite fine dining restaurant in all of Colorado. This place has some of the best food I've ever had anywhere, I'm having my rehearsal dinner here because I love the food so much. They cook their steaks perfectly and have some of the funnest and tastiest sides I've ever had the pleasure to eat. Their roasted heirloom squash is never to be skipped over, it's my favorite vegetable dish that they sell, also do not skip over the Crispy pigs ears, or the tartar! The service there is outstanding and everyone that works there is super nice and professional, they are all masters of their crafts. I love the entire vibe of Blackbelly, they have well taken care of live plants everywhere, and it's very clean and tables are well spaced out. One of my favorite parts though is the dry age case! I love being sat near it (when others don't always) because I also work with food and appreciate how things are made. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. We only got to eat in the market, not in the restaurant. The menu choices were abundant, the food was served quickly and was delicious. I had the bacon cheeseburger with a side of tots. Always great to pick something to supplement a homemade dinner. The market has so many options. I love eating their specialty salads that I can never duplicate at home. I may be a decent baker, but salads are beyond me. This Market Salad is one of our favorites. Their dressing is unique and I've never had anything like it elsewhere. It is a maple vinaigrette though not really sweet, regardless of the name. It's more savory than sweet, but the touch of maple cannot be overlooked. The salad greens, tomatoes and quinoa add a great balance of textures. The "spring greens" this time of year has specialties I cannot duplicate in a grocery store as their greens come from local gardens where they have access. Besides these ready to eat items, for in house or take out, there are plenty of fresh meat options at the butcher counter and specialty prepared meat items like the lamb meatballs with Spanish seasonings, ready to cook and in the freezer case. Lunch Review. This is one heck of place to get a great lunch. Bahn Mi was exceptional, with smoked pulled pork and all the other fixings. Very filling and can be easily split. Service is right on -- fast, friendly, and efficient. Lots of Meats and bakery items available. Be sure to consider the beautiful outdoor patio if the weather is decent. This is what an upscale Colorado Steakhouse should be. We have the finest beef in the country, and Blackbelly gets the best of the best, just take a peek in the dry aged rack and get ready to feast. Now these top-end cuts have a price tag that I'm guessing most of us have to save up for, but they have some "regular" cuts that will bring the yum at a more affordable price. The seasonal menu highlights the freshest CO produce too, so don't forget to add some greens to the plate. Service is relaxed and friendly, unlike some of those "fancy steakhouses." read more

The service was amazing and the entire staff was so knowledgeable about the menu. Every time they would bring us something, they explained each ingredient and the person that made it. I've heard they have amazing breakfast burritos at the Market so I'll need to come see for myself sometime soon. A trifecta of delicious options: full on butcher shop, a sandwich shop during the day, and a restaurant at night. We went during lunch and it was busy but efficient! Line up and order then get a number and someone drops it to your table. The seating is outside and they offer a nice little water station, too. The sandwiches were great (we both had Italians) and made even better with an order of TATER TOTS! So many sandwich places only offer bags of chips, so this was a big bonus for me. We were actually having a really good experience here. The food was good, the service was solid, and overall we were genuinely enjoying ourselves. The drinks were definitely expensive, but we were happy to pay for a quality experience at an upscale restaurant. We ordered multiple appetizers, had several drinks, sat at the bar for quite a while, and honestly about to leave thinking this was a place we would probably come back to. That changed the second the bill arrived. Buried into the check was a 7% "kitchen surcharge." In other words, the restaurant decided to pass along kitchen payroll costs directly onto the customer without being upfront about it. If you're not paying close attention, you could easily end up tipping on top of that surcharge as well, essentially paying an extra hidden fee without realizing it. At a restaurant positioning itself as upscale and classy, this came across as incredibly tacky and cheap. Pay your staff properly and price your menu accordingly instead of sneaking surprise fees onto the bill at the very end. That's not hospitality. That's the kind of nickel and diming people expect from budget airlines, not a supposedly high end dining experience. It completely ruined what had otherwise been a nice night. We were seriously considering coming back before this happened. Now we won't return. read more

I hate to do this except I'm kind of sick and tired and tired and sick of the bullshit that happens in Boulder. Supposed to be such a progressive place, right? Well, it is as long as you're not Black. I have been coming to this place since it opened. My relationship with Black Belly has lasted longer than my last marriage and would probably have lasted longer than what will be my subsequent marriage and maybe the one after that... but unfortunately, it has to go the way of those men! Last night, I stopped in for just a simple espresso martini so that I could stay awake for planned festivities... everything was fine, but one of the bartenders did give me a really nasty look when I sat in front of him. Now this is a shame because this is actually a fellow person of color and being that I am part Asian, Blasian on my mother's side: what I'm about to describe really does not sit well with me specifically. As I was going to leave, he mockingly asked if I changed my mind and wanted another. Or, after talking about how he has this roommate who only likes chicken fingers to other customers with disdain for said roommate's unrefined palate, told me he could instead get me some chicken fingers from the back while literally cackling AT me.... ?! Excuse me? So, I won't say how I responded, but it was appropriate and I immediately walked out, and I don't know how it could ever be made up to me to walk back in... Mocking a Black woman to her face and asking her if she wants some fried chicken from the back?! Wtf!!! I have had fine dining experiences all over the world certainly all over the state and the only other time I've experienced more egregious treatment was in Aspen: which I expect. To be clear, I have eaten at this location on more occasions than I can count as I have already expressed; that includes the front deli as well as the main dining room and at the bar. This assumption about my palate if meant innocently (it wasn't, the other bar patrons and bartender were visibly horrified!) was in poor taste at best. At worst, well... So get it together, Black Belly management. I also heard that your bartenders don't need to go to meetings? Maybe they should at the very least receive a little bit more training on basic professionalism! The food here is excellent. Heard about their cinnamon challah bread through Yelp (thank you Boulder Elites!) and further learned it's only available Fridays. You're also strongly encouraged to order your cinn challah ahead of time... so on Monday we did! While picking up our loaf Fri morning we noticed brisk to-go sales of their butcher burrito at the counter... so we got one... and should've grabbed two! "Butcher" simply means they add their meat of the day and (the clincher) is that today's was braised beef... and it's only a $1 more than the regular burrito. Holy Toledo, this was good. For $10 it's a decently sized (9x3 inch?) burro filled with eggs, shredded braised beef, and tater tots?! The latter was a delightful surprise. Neither of us noticed on the menu that it was tots vs diced or hash potato. Tots added a unique crunch to the soft egg/beef mixture... genius really. Bonus, these are so popular they're made throughout the morning and are typically available within a minute of payment! Whaaat?! The challah yielded phenomenal French toast the next day (as others here referred me to). I cut each 1" slice in half, soaked them about 45-60 seconds in the eggs/milk batter and seared them in a cast iron with butter. They were delicious even without syrup but we added blueberries, strawberries, and whipped cream anyway. It also "might" have been awesome as toast with jelly for a midnight snack ;) read more

A Michelin-mentioned spot in Boulder, Colorado, Blackbelly Market was the finest meal that I've had in the 20 years I've been visiting Boulder on a regular basis. From the house made bread offerings, the exceptionally fresh charcuterie board, the mouthwatering burger on a perfectly-made sesame bun, or the interesting pig ear with sunny side up egg, there wasn't a single item we didn't enjoy thoroughly. I haven't stopped dreaming about the bread and the butter since I left. Chef Hosea Rosenberg has some magic working nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, directly beneath the Flatirons. Great place to go if you're looking for more of a fine dining experience with a curated menu. I ordered the chicken dish along with the mussels and both were so good, especially the mussels! Licked the plate clean. My friends got the burger, medium, and said was so good. Service was wonderful and the vibe is very cozy and warm. There is a butchery attached to the restaurant, which gives it this unique setting you don't often see in many restaurants. We arrived around noon on Thursday. Almost every seat was filled inside. Tried the lunch special sandwich and it was so good. Tasted very fresh and balanced. We also had the Italian sandwich and grain bowl with sweet potato falafel. The Italian sandwich was apparently pretty good not mind blowing. The grain bowl was good as well. The sweet potato falafel was actually better than I imagined it and I think adding sweet potato makes it less dry compared to a normal falafel. Super busy but service went by quickly. Visited: Mid-May 2025 | Dinner | Party of 2 Blackbelly in Boulder (with its Denver outpost now drawing buzz) carries weight--not only from its reputation as a whole-animal, sustainable operation, but also from its Michelin Green Star nod for sustainability. Naturally, expectations were high. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. Starters: Overpowered and Underwhelming We began with the Roasted Bone Marrow, which came sparsely portioned. Only about half of the bone contained marrow--arguably normal, but not ideal when paired with two pieces of overly oily toast. The pickled onions were aggressively acidic, dominating rather than complementing the dish. The Chicharrones were... fine. Just fine. Crisp and salty, but forgettable. Not a starter that leaves an impression or sets the tone for a special meal. Mains: Long Wait, Little Reward We waited nearly 40 minutes for our mains--an unusually long delay with no clear explanation. The Crispy Pig Ears, which I was genuinely excited about, were a letdown. As a longtime fan of this ingredient, I found the deep-frying and sugary red pepper jelly completely obliterated the subtle, gelatinous texture and flavor pig ears are celebrated for. In the end, the ears became just a vehicle for the jelly. The result? A dish that could've been made with anything and tasted the same. The 5oz Buckner Loin (lamb) didn't fare much better. Though ordered medium and appearing cooked accordingly, it somehow tasted dry and under-seasoned, lacking the richness or tenderness good lamb should deliver. The accompanying crispy sweetbreads were charred to the point of bitterness--blackened, dry, and tasting closer to burnt wood than delicacy. Presentation-wise, the dish lacked any visual appeal. And at $55 for the loin alone, the price felt unjustified--especially when you compare it to equally-priced signature mains in fine dining institutions. Drink & Service Notes The strawberry mocktail was delightful--bright, balanced, and refreshing. A rare bright spot in an otherwise unremarkable meal. Service was warm and attentive overall, although we were handed a set of dirty tongs, which felt out of place in a restaurant of this price point and prestige. We dined outdoors, so I can't comment on the interior atmosphere, but the patio was comfortable. Final Thoughts Our bill also included a 6% kitchen surcharge, which diners should be aware of--especially when value already feels questionable. In the end, while Blackbelly's mission is admirable and its service professional, the execution in the kitchen fell flat across the board. It's hard to reconcile the restaurant's accolades with the actual experience. Perhaps we caught them on an off night, but with so many exceptional dining options in Denver, I wouldn't rush back. read more

You are not going to find a better one, promise. So what is so good about it? Let's see... creamy fluffy cheddar-y eggs... check... melt worthy yet crunchy tatter tots... check... delicious green chili with a hint of spice... check... beautifully savory meat of the day... check... all wrapped in a soft pillow-y tortilla... check! Bonus: They give you a spicy red smooth salsa to enjoy your burrito with. It's the perfect sauce pairing! Bonus x2: They change the meat of the day so it's a fun surprise to see what you'll get the day you go. Carnitas was our luck! It complimented the fillings to a T. I imagine any meat they select would, though. I mean that's their thing! They are a butcher on top of dishing out BBBs (best breakfast burritos) every morning. :D Bonus x3: They start serving sandwiches at 11am. If you time it right, take someone you love and share a breakfast burrito at 10:45am then order a sandwich at 11:00am. Maybe a Reuben? Or Bahn Mi? Or Burger? No idea how I haven't reviewed Blackbelly yet. 100% one of my favorite spots in Boulder: - The butcher & market: IDK where else I can buy beef bacon, and Blackbelly always has my back. Their beef bacon is so so so good. I love to use the fat from cooking it to cook other things like eggs or other meats. It's a must! Their beef jerky has also recently been a staple at home--very flavorful. - A great lunch: Whether it's a simple grilled cheese and tomato soup, or a burger, their lunch is great. I love sitting on their patio and enjoying a tasty lunch there - The best dinner: I love going here for date nights and while friends are visiting. Their beef cuts and their lamb are so so good. I love their burrata, broccoli, and fries. But I think the service is what really sets them apart. The entire staff is so friendly and excited for you to be there. Breakfast burrito: I've heard for years I needed to try these burritos. The reviews are great so I went to get today''s offering: chorizo. This review is probably tainted with disappointment, but for such a storied meat seller, I would expect a more meat forward offering. The chorizo was tasty but there was very little chorizo in my burrito, like maybe 5 bits. The eggs: over cooked scrambled, no fluff. The tater tater tots were good, but I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito, not a potato and egg burrito. To be fair, my family liked them more than I did.
