A solid Boulder brunch with standout mains, friendly service, and one miss on the sides. Executive Summary: Despite a packed Sunday crowd during the Boulder Marathon, Foolish Craig's delivered a very good brunch. The Reuben and Hippie Burger were both satisfying, service was friendly and efficient, and portions were generous without being excessive. The onion rings were the only disappointment. We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon during the Boulder Marathon, and the restaurant was slammed. Even so, we were seated after only about 15 minutes on the waitlist. We ordered The Reuben with onion rings, the Hippie Burger, and their take on an espresso martini. The Hippie Burger was an especially good bite--the slight heat from the jalapeño paired perfectly with the rich egg. The Reuben was also very good, with nicely fried bread and a well-seasoned corn hash. Nothing felt overly greasy, and the portion sizes were just right for a filling lunch. There was a mix-up with my side, and fries arrived instead of onion rings. Our server, Kailen, quickly had a fresh order made. Unfortunately, the onion rings themselves were disappointing--too heavily battered with not enough onion. Kailen was friendly, attentive, and efficient throughout the meal. Overall, a very good brunch experience. I'd happily come back to try more of the menu and would recommend Foolish Craig's to others visiting Boulder. read more

Okay so about a month ago, I found this restaurant hoping to try out a niche place that would make for a great brunch in my few days in Boulder. When we got to the restaurant, I told them the name the waitlist was under and it took about 10 minutes to be seated. We ordered multiple plates of food, I had the Foolish Huevos and my friends ordered Challah French Toast with Two Eggs and Potatoes and the Belgian waffle with Two Eggs and Potatoes. We got there at about 12:50pm and they close at 2pm. When we got there, there wasn't much of a wait outside and multiple tables both inside and outside were open. My friend went to use the restroom about 10 minutes after we arrived and they brought out the food during the time he was gone. We waited for him to eat, within the time he was gone, our serve came up to us a couple times and asked how the food looks, we said great thanks and that we were waiting for our friend. He came back and we began eating. As we started eating, about five minutes later, the server came back and asked if we were ready to pack up. We were kinda shocked because they had no one waiting and were far from closing but we just said no thank you and we were still eating. A few minutes later she came back and asked my friends girlfriend if she was done with her plate, keep in mind that her plate is still full of food and her fork is literally in a piece of the waffle and she's chewing. She couldn't respond and put her hand out because the server started pulling the food away. My friend spoke for her and said "wait she's still eating". She apologized and said she must have misunderstood. We all kinda laughed about it after but got a little annoyed just because she kept coming every few minutes to check if we were ready to leave and we didn't know why we were being rushed so much. And there were plenty of open seats inside and they are still open for almost an hour. We continued eating and as I was talking, my friend was looking at me and then said to our table that the server was staring at us which was kinda weird but he's like "It's okay, just keep talking" I proceeded and then he said "oh she's now coming over again" and I was really hoping she wasn't. She came up again and asked if we were ready and my friend didn't even respond, he just looked up at her and looked annoyed because by this point I mean it was kinda ridiculous. We had been polite every single time and it almost felt like someone was playing a prank. She apologized and said it appeared he was staring at her. That was the funny part, she was staring at us but even if he did look over, none of which is a indication we are ready to leave, I could see raising your hand or making the classic check symbol as calling someone over. Although if someone is just looking around the restaurant because they do have art everywhere too, that shouldn't mean they want another check in but even with all that context, that wasn't the case. At the end of the brunch, she provided the check for him and it was weird because usually when you give the check you give them some space to give the tip but she leaned over my side of the table and stared at what tip he was leaving her. The whole experience was kinda weird on the service bit. The actual taste of the food was decent. However, the portion sizes were really disappointing because they focused more on presentation rather than anything else. The Belgian waffle wasn't even a full Belgian waffle, it was literally half of one covered with a few pieces of fruit and that sucks because a restaurant knows what it's doing when they present it like that instead of just giving you the actual thing you ordered which would be a complete Belgian waffle. On top of that, they offer fresh fruit which is very little fruit and Nutella which sound like they come with the waffle and French toast and then are separate charges that aren't mentioned until the end. Honestly, it's just annoying that a place wouldn't just tell you that or say something like, "Would you like to add fruit with that? It'll be $1 extra if that's okay with you?" And we would have said no because we didn't want extra fees but I know that's how they get you, which lacks transparency and genuineness. Despite that, I'd also like to mention that on the menu it says with choice of fruit for the waffle and choice of Nutella for the French toast. And one friend got fruit and the other got Nutella so it's not like they got multiple, they did choose one. Now based on the wording, it doesn't sound like an extra cost to me especially since there isn't any fee shown on the menu where it says that. I've honestly never seen that and that's kinda ridiculous because that means they don't write it, they don't say it but they do charge it. That literally doesn't make any sense. And inside the restaurant atmosphere, it was a bit annoying to have so many flies inside unfortunately. Hopefully my friends still trust my restaurant recommendations read more

We were supposed to meet family here but ended up sleeping in, so we came later and luckily got a table without waiting. The place is small but cozy, and was buzzing with activity. I ordered their famous corned beef hash -- flavor was good, but personally, I prefer my corned beef thinly sliced instead of big chunks. The scrambled eggs were good. The menu simply portrayed a DDD designation simply saying that Guy Fieri was there to endorse something. Yes, I asked for dressing on the side but the dressing had nothing really to do with the overall being of this salad. THE BREAD!!!!!! Home made bread everyday!!!! Didn't feel (texture wise) like home made that day... it felt like another something out of a bag from the grocers. The slice was just too perfect to have been baked that morning and sliced ... The service as less than mediocre but it's okay. Don't be foolish and go anywhere else for breakfast! We stopped in on a busy Sunday and the place was packed. We were able to get a seat right away and the service was super quick! We were seated on the balcony upstairs and will warn you that the tables are quite close together. The menu was pretty extensive with several veggies options. I ordered the veggie bagel with potatoes and it was awesome! The portion was no joke and perfect fuel for our hike afterwards. Additionally, I loved the art on the walls + in the bathroom, gives you something to talk about if you run out of conversation! The best place for breakfast in Boulder. Yes, I know Snooze is next door and I like them, too (another review for another day), but Foolish Craig's is my favorite. It tends to not be as crowded, the service is good, the menu is large as are the serving sizes, and I really love the Tofu Scramble. They also sell great tea here (the Red Rocks is a favorite) and parking is just as good as anywhere else in the area (street parking or garages). Just great food and good service and atmosphere. The place is a little small, especially when you walk in. Tables are close together in the front of the restaurant a little roomier past the host/hostess section. We got seated in the front part right by the window in the far corner. We went here because it was featured on Tripple D Nation. I asked my husband how his Chorizo Benedict w/Cheesy Grits (as seen on Tripple D Nation) was and he said enthusiastically "It was good"! My son had the same thing as my husband, but with potatoes, and he enjoyed it as well. My daughter-in-law had the Breast O Pesto Crepe. She said it was good and had a lot of chicken in it. She did say however, that the pesto tasted like Costco pesto. I had the Corned Beef Hash (as seen on Tripple D Nation). It was so good. The Café is the cutest mom and pops type place. Inside has low lighting easy going vibes. The place has been around a while and it shows. They weren't mentioned on Guy Fieri "Diners Drive-in's & Dives" for not making a name for themselves. The service was excellent, we were very indecisive and the server was very patient with us. We went for the fried chicken Benedict. It was pretty tasty, The chicken is the same as the chicken tenders they use I believe. For some reason I assumed it was a juicier fried chicken. We also went with a crepe that we didn't love the crepe skin, but it was well cooked and overall tasty and very filling. I couldn't complain about the portion size of it. There were a couple of snafus during my order, but my server was amazing and made the corrections quickly. As I sat here updating quite a few of my yelp reviews, my server came by just to make sure everything was OK and then said that I could stay in my little corner here as long as I wanted. The noise level is minimal, and you can hold a conversation quite easily, even though there are many people and quite a few tables. There is outdoor seating as well. All in all, a great visit to this place and I'm so glad I found it. Surrounded by chain establishments that also serve breakfast, I'm super glad that I walked into this one. Nothing fancy, just solid, well executed food that really hits the spot. The portion sizes are generous, and I especially appreciated that they use pasture raised eggs. A huge plus in my book. I have to say you would be "Foolish" to come to this place. If you watch the video on their website, I will tell you that is exceptional, but it's a gross misrepresentation of their food, at least in our experience. We showed up and put our name down; it was a rather short wait before a table was ready. However, we had a dog and they do not allow them inside and although they have outdoor seating, almost all of it is for two people and only two tables could accommodate our party of three. It was an hour before we were seated and even after all of that, quite some time before or server came out. So, let me just get to the highlights: - Ordered drinks and although I was brought my iced tea, we had to ask the server three times for one of the drinks for someone else in our party. He just kept saying "they are all backed up" - "Millionaire" Bacon was more like $1k bacon. Doesn't look anything like the picture and it was just bacon with syrup poured over it. In Austin, TX there are restaurants with million dollar bacon and this is nothing like that - I was suckered in by the "Best has I've ever had!" quote on the menu. Again, not quite... there are very few chunks of corn beef so it's rather hard to get a taste for it. It was mostly green peppers and onions with some potatoes. But this "slow-braised Certified Angus Corned Beef"... again, coming from TX I can appreciate good beef and really didn't get much to even taste. - their "award winning" bread... makes me wonder what the award was for. The bread was nothing special and in fact, I would not order it again. Our server was NOT at all into helping us or ensuring a good dining experience. He even at one point asked us to excuse him because his head wasn't there today. And I am supposed to tip just because you are physically present but clearly, and verbally, did not want to put any effort into our dining experience? I had heard a lot of hype about this place and sadly, did not go to the breakfast place next door which I know to be excellent. Again, if you have watched their video on the home page, it is first rate! But there is a serious disconnect between what you will see in the video to your actual experience and the food. We intended to go to Snooz, but my niece had looked up the menu online and thought it was interesting. We walked up and looked at the menu posted outside and decided to give it a try. I'd prefer to support a mom-and-pop business over a chain anyway. Inside is narrow, tall, and funky as hell. There is all kinds of artwork, kitsch, and mismatched stuff on the walls. It is tight, we were seated at a 4-top but immediately behind me was a 2-top. I felt bad for the servers having to squeeze behind me to get to that table! Menu has the traditional breakfast offerings and some more unique options, too. I went with an omelet that had bacon in it. This may be the best omelet I've ever eaten. The eggs had crispy edges, which I love, but not so cooked that the eggs are hammered and dry. There was so much bacon inside, it felt like I was eating 4-5 slices crumbled up. I opted for the toasted baguette and cheesy grits. The baquette was so fresh and had the right kind of chew. The grits, however, were inedible. I don't know what they did to them, but it was a crime against humanity. They were more like cream of wheat than grits, but they had a gumminess to them like warmed over playdough. I tried two bites, but didn't finish it. There was a small pot of fresh preserves on the plate that were absolutely delicious. We had no idea that it had been featured on Guy Fieri's show. We were all happy with our breakfasts. I would happily go back. Bathrooms are in a narrow hallway by the kitchen. You'll have to squeeze past servers. I waited for nearly 10 minutes. I thought that I was being punked because both bathrooms were in sue. Then, I thought that maybe someone had taken up residence, but then I heard a toilet flush. Thank goodness!
