Sorry in advance for the lack of photos. That often happens when I'm starving! We are from out of town and this looked like a fun hole in the wall. It was busy when we walked in and all the tables were full and then we were offered outside seating which we didn't know they offered. They have three tables outside and it was nice in the sun. The menu has a nice selection of typical breakfast options. They also have burgers as I saw one walk by on its way to another table. Service was good even though we were outside. Chicken fried steak - 8/10 - this was one of the better ones that I have had. The hash brown potatoes were crispy and delicious and the sunny side up eggs were cooked perfectly . Oatmeal - 6/10 - hard to have amazing oatmeal, it was fine Pancakes - 7.5/10 - these were light and airy, yummy, and huge (they were the size of the plate) This is a great place to frequent. read more

Today we became aware of the best breakfast in the town of Boulder! For a short time we found ourselves the newest of the Village Virgins and were celebrated in the typical fashion of the restaurant with a boisterous and fun spirited welcome! What an incredible meal! The service was great. They made sure our drinks were full very regularly (which is sometimes a problem most other places...!) And the family that owns it was very friendly and welcoming. You could tell they put love into their restaurant and food! It's an old school diner, one of my favorite vibes and the portions were HUGE...! My wife and I I split a vegetarian omelet and two pancakes for breakfast. Couldn't come close to finishing...! I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town visiting my cousins! read more

I would eat here every day if I could. The only spot in town I feel totally comfortable going alone. It's incredibly laidback and its small diner energy is great for a classic diner breakfast. The people here are incredible, kind, and make the experience. There's also delicious options for gluten free and plenty of other options for differing diets. The gluten free blueberry pancakes are genuinely my favorite pancakes I've had ever. read more

Who is rating this place? The food here is so nasty. The water smelled like bleach. Coffee is Folgers. So gross. My "Spanish" omelet had so many onions! They took a pile of frozen vegetables and threw them In the middle with cheese. Tasteless mush. The chicken steak was so overcooked and the black vomit that they salt and pour on the steak is so disgusting. The hash browns are definitely from frozen and. The bacon sounds fancy but it isn't. Even the eggs looked yucky. Poor lady owner. I felt bad to tell her, but good grief. Place is clean and service is fast, but then you aren't getting anything good. Would never go back. read more

We were visiting Boulder from out of state and looking for a great local spot to grab a late AM breakfast before heading to the airport. Well, we definitely found it in the Village Coffee Shop. In the age of chains and predictable cookie cutter restaurants, this was exactly what we were looking for! A small, local, established, friendly diner with great food and great service that is clearly woven into the fabric of the community, as evidenced by the many articles, awards, and accolades posted on the wall at the entrance, and the fact that they greeted more than a few customers like old friends. As non-local first-time visitors, we were welcomed and treated with the same level of hospitality and friendly service. This diner is small, and operates like a well-oiled machine despite the fact that it is crowded. It's a wonderful level of controlled chaos, and we loved that vibe. Now for the food.... It came up quickly despite the fact that the diner was packed, and it was delish. We had the French toast and the breakfast burrito with Chile verde and added bacon. Everything was fresh off the griddle, piping hot, and really tasty, and the portions were generous. The coffee was good, too. This place is everything a local diner should be. Service and food on point, busy but well-managed, friendy folks, and the perfect amount of local grit in the best possible way. I've read rave reviews about this place and knew I had to give it a try for myself. Came here for a late breakfast with my family and snagged the last booth. The place was hopping and quite loud for the small restaurant it is, but the vibes were great! A family member and I were going to share the egg burrito, and they were thoughtful enough to split the entree for us--we didn't even ask for them to do so. Bonus points for that. And of course we had to get the famous blueberry pancakes...boy oh boy were they the best I've ever had. Fluffy, plenty of blueberries, and oh so light. I can't stand it when the pancakes are so dense you can barely eat any of it. Service was fast and the woman who took our order and brought us our food was super outgoing and friendly. She even put the menu on the table when I was taking pics of the food so people would know what restaurant I was at lol. See picture below for reference. Now, I work in Denver, but still manage to get up there and enjoy my favorite restaurant in the entire Denver-metro area! Nestled next to the University of Colorado campus, the Village Coffee Shop sits in a small strip mall on the west side of Folsom. CU students know this place well--it's a rite of passage to eat here! Entree: - Smothered Egg Breakfast Burrito ($8.50). I've eaten almost everything on their menu, and they're all fantastic! Yet, this Burrito is so unique in flavor, and so filling! The Green Chile is mild (for those concerned about spiciness), and it's hearty, flavorful, and compliments the Burrito so well! The Hashed Browns are perfect. Crunchy, toasted brown with a moist interior. I asked their Chef how they made them--and he gave me the secret to cooking their hashed browns. It's the oil they use! Shhh! Meal includes toast, and you definitely get a great meal and a fantastic price! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Drink: - Milk ($1.50). This isn't your milk from a carton! This is milk from those large bladders they put into a refrigerated stainless steel dispenser--like you get at an old-fashioned Soda Fountain/Malt Shoppes! Just order it! You won't regret it! Village Coffee Shop is a Boulder institution. The greasy spoon has been operating for over 50 years. They describe themselves as "890 square feet of reality surrounded by Boulder." Well, they ain't wrong! We dined in for a late breakfast yesterday. My wife and her cousin who attends CU Boulder had a wonderful time. I love old school diners like this; cramped, loud, coffee being refilled without you asking for it, surrounded by regulars and food that'll cure even the worst hangovers. *Pro tip* you don't need to wait for a server to tell you to take a seat. Learn from our mistake of trying to be polite. It would've been nice if an employee simply said, "take a seat wherever you like." Food-wise, you have two options: breakfast and lunch. Classics like Denver omelettes, pancakes, chicken fried steak, etc. All with eggs, sausage links, hash browns, etc. For lunch, you're looking more at sandwiches like burgers, a reuben (apparently a signature item), club, French dip, etc. If coffee is on the agenda, I'm more than likely leaning towards breakfast. We all ended up with breakfast and I landed on the country fried steak. It's been years since I ordered this and Village Coffee Shop seemed like the appropriate place to resurrect my taste buds to this delicacy. Based on the owner's suggestion, I went with the cream gravy, which she said was more fitting for breakfast. Look, I don't eat this type of food often but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I certainly didn't have a hangover when I walked in, yet it soothed the soul regardless. I loaded the plate with hot sauce and the hash browns and eggs were the ideal companions to the dish. You won't go home hungry here. It's a shit ton of food and it's pretty tasty! Before we left, I made the mistake of saying how it was our first time here and we enjoyed it. Well, the owner proceeded to get the entire restaurant's attention and let them know we were Village Virgins, haha. Though we're not one for the limelight, having every patron applaud for us was pretty cool. You can't beat this type of quirky character when it comes to local haunts. Man, if I were a college kid I'd probably overstay my welcome at this place. Some people might not get the allure of diners. But it's something ingrained in my blood. I bet the experience is even better sitting at the counter. I plan to do so next time and witness all the action with a front row seat. But honestly, the entire restaurant is a front row seat because of its size! read more

I honestly don't think that this place deserves all the hype it gets; don't get me wrong, it's a solid breakfast spot, but there's a couple things I'm not fond of here. Firstly, the place is super small, you always feel pretty crowded in there. Secondly, I think the food is rather greasy for breakfast food. I've been going to the Village Coffee Shop for 50+ years and have never been so disappointed. I sat at the counter and ordered one egg over easy, hash browns and 1/2 order of French Toast. The cook didn't read the order correctly and put out the egg and hash browns in the server area to be served. He then had to make the french toast. The food was cold and the french toast wasn't cooked all the way through and had a horrible taste-almost like a cleaning fluid. It never occured to the server to have the original egg and hash browns redone so they wouldn't be cold. Just a horrible experience. read more

Neighborhood coffee spot that isn't exactly a coffee shop... this is more of a diner environment where they sling messy plates of eggs and hash browns and it doesn't get any better than that! For cheap ($11), you get a sizable plate of breakfast yumminess that will keep you fueled for the whole day. I recommend sitting at the counter to marvel at the huge pile of hashbrowns cooking on the flat top or chatting with the staff as they conquer hungry crowds with ease. A Boulder staple! read more

Nice little place in a strip mall. It's way more than it seems. It feels like Waffle House without using the same kind of drugs that Waffle House obviously is using. Epic breakfast counter and diner serving until 2P. Some outdoor self-serve (order like takeout). Perfectly noisy with chatter and the staff working hard. It's the kind of place the locals know - and where they go for a quick breakfast bite without the nonsense of hipster eateries. Breakfast should be the least expensive meal out and The Village offers hearty and delicious food at the right prices. Try a burrito with green chili, pancakes (gluten free was amazing), biscuits and gravy, eggs and perfectly crisped hash browns. Friendly staff and fast service. And don't forget to tell them when you or your guests haven't visited before - you'll enjoy a special surprise. Small so you might have to wait but it's worth it.
