John's Gnocchi Verde
Yelen P.

This was a surprise restaurant pick for my birthday, and it was the perfect choice. Everything we ordered was great: white wine and rosé, bacon + date kebabs, Montreal duck wings, John's gnocchi verde (these are large gnocchi), 1/2 lb brisket smash burger + cheese, banana pudding layer cake, and house whipped chocolate mousse. Service was great. I got great recommendations, a complimentary dessert (mousse), and they even wrote "Happy birthday" on the to-go box. Ambiance - overall, it feels very relaxed. We sat in the outdoor area, which is carpeted with artificial grass. The corrugated roof was supported in the center by a bare tree wrapped with lights. Even though it was a hot day, I felt fine under the roof. The decor inside was nice - wood theme. Attention to detail also extended to the bathrooms. I hope to return soon to try other food.

My daughter took me here for my birthday dinner. This place was amazing. Every dish we had was delicious and the drinks were great as well. Service was very attentive. 10/10 would recommend.

Really cute place! The food was good not super memorable. The lamb dish was good but I was expecting more of a wow presentation.. but the lamb meat was perfect so that made up for the lack off. Lastly the service was great!

A++++++ Food. Service. Ambiance. A+++++ doesn't even do it justice. Andy was a fabulous waiter - the 5 of us sat outdoors under a shade cover strung with white lights and some plants growing on edges of patio. Ambiance was perfection for August evening. Our food was perfection all the way from my Sour cherry kombucha (local- Rev kombucha) to forage board and special challah bread to fresh river trout - to amazing gnocchi - a burger (oh but it was so so much more than just a burger!!) and a DEVINE cucumber salad .... In Boulder with a friend who's helping move her daughter into Boulder for a PhD program. And we are having fun exploring local dining !!!! Sadly I took zero photos. Make a reservation. Go to River and Woods !!

SUCH a great experience here, I hope to come back to Boulder so that we can eat here again! It was my birthday and this was def the right move. We sat outside in the enclosed tent area which was decorated beautifully and very on-theme. Our server was an angel who gave us the most *chefs kiss* drink & food recs. I had the trout (first time trying trout!) which was incredible, and both cocktails we tried were fantastic as well. Finally YOU MUST MUST MUST TRY THE CHURRO DESSERT. You actually have not tried a churro until you've tried this dessert. Go, now.

We enjoyed our brisket smash burger ...pretty juicy so it eventually fell apart. Also, the BBQ short rib, with the sauce on the side in case it was too spicy, but it turned out it wasn't. Delicious beef. Service was A-OK. we'll be back. Next time we will try for a patio spot, but you need to book those in advance.

I hosted my bachelorette dinner with my 6 bridesmaids at River & Woods. We loved the food and had an amazing experience! The ambience was calming and beautiful, the staff was friendly, and our waiter was awesome (he's pictured in the middle). I went back a second time and raved about the food all the way home. Definitely recommend!

Mushrooms

Great ambience, very magical and warm. We had a few of the appetizers, the bacon wrapped dates, deviled eggs and mushrooms (they were the best in my opinion). I had the chicken, the spinach was amazing. We had the churros and s'mores for dessert. The churros were to warm and melty, the s'mores were good but messy to make. Our server said she was new but you wouldn't have known, she was attentive to everything we needed.

Dinner this time. Excellent wine selection (Nebbiolo and Barolo that are top notch). Mac and cheese is fantastic as are the burger and forage plates. Service is always stellar with Rob-- an amazing human.

I'm vegetarian and was looking for a cute date night spot near the Dairy Arts Center, where my boyfriend and I were catching a movie afterward. Google led me to River & Woods, and I'm so glad it did! From the outside, the restaurant looks quaint and unassuming, but inside it's cozy, classy, and surprisingly elevated. I started with the buttermilk cornbread (subbed the whipped bacon fat for regular butter), followed by the whipped ricotta crostini and gnocchi verde, and finished with the dulce de leche churros for dessert. Every single dish was perfect. The gnocchi were rich and decadent, the radishes on the crostini instantly transported me back to the Russian foods of my childhood, and the churros had a warm, gooey filling that just melted in my mouth. From the thoughtful service to the charming atmosphere to the flawless food -this place was fantastic. Can't wait to come back and would absolutely recommend.

Chicken breast

Sorry to say that this anniversary dinner experience was a disappointment. First off, was hoping for outdoor seating and was told it was not available and was a special request to be seated outside which apparently I didn't do other than making the restaurant aware of our anniversary. Ordered bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer which were good. When it came to ordering our main course which we both wanted the short ribs, our waiter failed to mention earlier that there weren't any available due to bad supplier. This was disappointing as the waiter recommended the short rib hamburger instead. Didn't come for a burger and settled for the chicken breast, rye berry risotto and sautéed summer greens. Also ordered sides of the mac and cheese, and the polenta. The mac and cheese, very basic in taste came out late, as did the polenta which was probably the best dish of the night. Chicken was just ok, the risotto was like eating grape nuts cereal and greens lacked seasoning and very bland. I guess I don't have a sophisticated palate. The chicken dish wasn't impressive at all and only got worse as I bit into a piece of chicken, I crunched into a small chicken bone! Just a bad night. The manager came over and apologized for the bone and explained that their chicken breast supplier will be made aware. He reduced one dinner by $14 and comped a dessert. I had great expectations and left feeling really disappointed and not on my list to recommend.

The inside is a little bit divey in feel but more upscale than your typical dive bar. They had tons of seating, and I saw next to a fireplace because it looked cozy (it was). The server was quick to take my order even though it was pretty busy in there (was rush weekend I think for the university?). I had the tin man HH cocktail because my server said it would be the most floral (has elderflower in it) and I quite liked it! Was very refreshing, not too strong. Aside notes: the bathrooms were quite clean. Parking was a little chaotic, some is paid parking and some is free 2 hour. There are only a couple spots right in front, I had to park a few blocks down but it was in 2hr free park by another small business that was closed for the day. I didn't have any issues there. Overall thought this was a fun little bar in Boulder with good happy hour drinks, I would def come back :)

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Boulder. I spent most of it riding around on my motorcycle, but on my way down from the canyons I had a hankering for some truly authentic Mexican food. As soon as my stomach started growling I knew I had to stop in for a bite. Everything, as always, was perfectly seasoned, balanced, and cooked with love. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is some of the best food you'll ever eat. Chef Johnny Curiel has done an impeccable job curating a near perfect menu. From drinks to dessert and everything in between, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, on this menu that will leave you feeling unimpressed. I've spent practically my entire adulthood in the restaurant industry. I've dedicated even more of my time cooking for, drinking with, and serving the people I love. You can taste and feel that same passion here at Cozobi. As always, I leave impressed and wanting more. Places like this are the reason I keep coming back to Boulder's dining scene, and I'll happily continue recommending Cozobi to friends any chance I get.

We were about to get a last minute reservation for Saturday - although the bar seating is nice and cozy and usually always has spots open. The host Chase was super friendly and welcoming. He sat us a bit early, and he offered some of his recommendations. Most of the dishes are made to share. We started with the olives and iberico jamon. The jamon melts in your mouth! For steak, it's all about your preference. We opted for the dry-aged cowboy. Super smooth and not very fatty compared to some Chicago steaks we've had recently. Don't skip on the jamon fat fries or the sunchokes! We were too full for dessert but everything looked so delicious - and they use seasonal ingredients!

We went for apps/lunch and drinks. The view is so gorgeous and who doesn't love seeing mountains while enjoying a perfect red sangria? I mean, such good vibes and what a perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon. I can only imagine sunset. We got the pimiento peppers which were so good--the sauce is out of this world. The salad had the best vinaigrette and while I didn't take a picture (I was so excited to eat that I forgot), the steak frites was out of this world. The jamon fat fries were insane. So crispy and so flavorful. But the steak? Woah. Not a big portion, but that's not surprising for tapas! Cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly-- aka, perfection. I'm so sad I don't live closer to Boulder. If I did, I'd be a regular. You have to go here!! Plus, the service was so good and fast! Our waiter was very kind and attentive. Booked this for a monday evening for a business dinner. i really wanted to like this restaurant…read moreand there were several things that i did like, but the food was just OK from my perspective. Ambience - this isn't the best place for a business dinner. very quiet/romantic and i felt like our group was out of place there, but no one looked at us oddly. It felt more like we might have been interfering with their romantic vibe as we were talking business. The restaurant and staff present a very inviting atmosphere. Food, this is where i was disappointed. the Bread at the beginning was very good/ with salted butter. I ordered the salted radish appetizer and it honestly just felt like salted radishes on top of a puree that i didn't really care for. So would put this as a 5/10 in terms of rating. I got the rabbit, which was recommended as being the best entree option. i have never had rabbit previously and wanted to try it. I thought it was OK, but not very memorable. It did taste like dark meat chicken. however the chick peas they were served with were underdone (crunchy in texture) and simply not that good. Our dessert, blueberry Tres Leches, was the best of the 3. My dining companions had a variety of things (striped bass, meatballs), but no one was raving about their food. Service was quite nice. would give this more like a 3.5 out of 5, as the atmosphere and service were good. Sadly won't be returning.

However, the kitchen fails to deliver quality or good tasting meals, despite the well-sourced food. The menu is prix fixe. 2 appetizers and an entree, or 1 appetizer, entree and dessert. The salmon tartare was salty, too salty. The kefta balls were over salted as well. The onion tarte shell was so hard it could barely be chipped away to eat. When we mentioned this to our server, the response was we get more complaints about the tarte than any other appetizer. I was surprised to see that the appetizers were all served at the same time, so by the time, I ate the cold salmon, the warm kefta, besides being salty was also cool - might have been more appealing if warmer. The rabbit entree was dry, overcooked and tasteless. The accompanying garbanzo beans were undercooked, crunchy and too salty. The food highlight was the family style vegetables. Beets, onions, asparagus were alright; the sugar snap peas which still had strings were not as good. The dessert were disappointing as the rest of the meal. The macaron was brick hard, so hard, we had to ask for a fork and knife to chip hunks off of it. Tasteless. After we departed, my dinner companion said she wished we had sent the dessert back, it was so hard and inedible that we left most of it. Bramble & Hare has a few things going for it: Service was spot on, attentive, helpful and friendly. The wine list is very good. Ambience is pleasant and the dining room is quiet. I really wanted to like Bramble & Hare as the farm to table concept appeals, but with the poor food preparation, this is a tough restaurant to like.
