Right off the Pearl Street Mall, Mountain Sun is always worth a stop when I am in Boulder. This past Saturday was no different, and with it being a warm, sunny day - there was a slight wait (10ish minutes) for a table for 2. Once seated, a server took our drink order (no dedicated server... they all help out on every table plus share tips). The menu is still pretty consistent to how it was when I first stopped in at Mountain Sun 10-15 years ago, so I went with one of my favs - BLT and their fantastic skinny fries. My wife had a grilled cheese and chips. Something to note is Mountain Sun is CASH ONLY, so be prepared. There is an ATM in the back. Another note is Mountain Sun does offer vegan options, so if you are dining with a vegan (or vegetarian like I was), be sure to mention that, to ensure your food is not cross-contaminated with any meat products. I was visiting Denver and made a quick trip to Boulder for lunch. Found this place on Yelp and it didn't disappointed. Couple of things to know. You will have to go through an app to pay for parking. This place only accepts cash. They do have an ATM on-site, if needed. As for the food and beer selection. Both were great. I was torn between the bison burger and the junk burger but decoded to go with the Junk Burger. It was literally cooked to perfection (well done chef!). As for the beer, they had 18 to choose from including two gluten free options. I could decide so I went with a beer flight which allowed me to sample several in my typical range of beers. Luckily we got in on a sweet spot where the didn't have a line. I had the raspberry beer and date night burger. The date night burger is just the best in my opinion. Came here for a late lunch on a Monday and it was pretty disappointing. We had the fried pickles, the Cuban sandwich and the orchard chicken wrap. Our server didn't seem too happy that we showed up today, the food took about 30 minutes to get to us and the fried pickles and the Cuban weren't very yummy, we didn't finish either. Disappointing. However the French fries WERE very yummy! And the wrap was unique and pretty good. It's a large space and it was easy to find a seat. The artwork is beautiful. Luckily we found street parking so that was easy too. It's a cash only restaurant (or local personal checks) and while it wasn't a problem, we had cash, we probably wouldn't have come here had we known that beforehand. Came here a couple months ago walking my little 1 year old rat terrier that is well behaved (shocking I know) and was told no dogs allowed even on the outside patio although there was another dog out there already. Maybe only 1 dog allowed at a time, but wasn't given an explanation. read more

Service was friendly and welcoming, as was the whole vibe of this spot. A little surprised to see they do cash only in this day and age, but luckily someone in our group had it covered for us this time around. Came here for lunch on a Sunday and had a nice meal!We were able to find a parking spot in a paid lot and walk around. We chose this restaurant to eat at because of the wide variety of foods! The 5 of us were able to be seated immediately. Inside was cute with a decent amount of seating and some seating outside too. The service was good. They had vegetarian and vegan options which was nice. They had unique bowls, grilled cheeses, sandwiches, and salads. We didn't realize they only took cash and check. The interior has a "homely" feel and the servers are friendly. While their fries are phenomenal -- I ordered the bison burger and wasn't very impressed; perhaps their regular burgers are better. Great first time at mountain sun! I've heard about it for awhile and finally got to go. It's been around since 1993 so definitely a boulder must visit. The service was amazing everyone was super helpful and friendly. The steak speakeasy sandwich was sooo good I would definitely get that again. It's spicy though so keep that in mind if you're sensitive to that. The tofu sandwich was perfectly crispy and sweet with the honey added. The Greek fries weren't as crispy as I would have wanted but the combination of flavors was great with the Pom seeds and hot honey and tzatziki. Can't wait to go back! read more

Nice Sunday afternoon lunch after a hike nearby. 4 of us came in and decided to sit outside on the sidewalk/patio setup. Service was great, came by to give us waters, take our orders etc. We were offered a free basket of fries, and while I don't like to complain about free things, they were a bit salty for our tastings (although it didn't stop us from finishing the basket). I really enjoyed my tomato bisque soup, and the black bean burger was okay. My friend did check about gluten free options and ordered the BLT because it was on gluten free bread, but then when it came out she double checked and they had to re-make because it wasn't on gluten free bread. Delicious food, cool vibes, great location! My friend and I stopped here on our way through Boulder after a local recommended it to us. So glad we did! It's located off Pearl Street, Boulder's most hopping area. We were able to find street parking close by, and it was cheap! First things first, it is CASH ONLY, so plan accordingly! There is an ATM on site, not sure of the fees, etc. When we arrived, it was pretty busy, but we were able to sit on the patio. The nice thing about the patio is that it's heavily shaded with umbrellas (which, admittedly, made snapping photos a tad tough for this foodie gal!) This place is quite interesting inside. The wall decor is cool but it has carpet and older looking tables, so that was different. It looked more like a diner/old fancy restaurant had a baby vs a brewery. This might be part of the vibe they're trying to achieve, but I'd probably go for patio seating every time! Our waitress was wonderful. She was super busy but checked on us often and we never wanted for a thing. We tried beer and it wasn't our fave, but we had been in the hot sun that morning so water hit the spot. We started with the nachos and they were BOMB! They're HUGE and the cheese pulls are outta this world. So good! For mains, my friend ordered the Date Night burger sub chicken and she really liked it. The chicken was a little small, but it was tender and the flavors were delicious. I had the Junk Burger (no mushrooms sub in caramelized onions). It was phenomenal! Highly recommend. The nachos tasted very good, I do love some salsa on my nachos, but so much liquid on the bottom the chips were like noodles, but hey, it was still good. As far as the food goes, the french fries are exceptional! Get them with cheese on top you will not regret it. The hamburger was a good hamburger, but it was not as bodacious as I get expected by the description. But it was good. The staff was extremely accommodating and the crowd was great. The environment here is really nice for a date or for family. It's great for small, gatherings or large gatherings. I really enjoyed the vibe and I really enjoyed the hospitality. But here's where it gets Jenkee. I ordered a flight of beer. I ordered six. But only five came out and I was told they were out. However, the sixth came out after I started the flight. Not a big deal. But I had already tasted the entire flight in order. Then there was the flavor of each beer. I'll take it one by one. The Irish stout had a weird back flavor kind of like a chemical flavor not a natural flavor. The blackberry wheat was alright. I've had better Berry Wheat beers. But it's drinkable. Unlike its name, the Colorado Kind Ale was extremely confronting in its initial flavor. I think at the time of drinking it I said it was extremely abrasive. I don't think I even finished that one. The Spanish holiday sangria was also drinkable, but not exceptional. It was oddly bitter. And I love stouts. But the coconut cream stout tasted burnt. The best one was the Soul Flower Saison in my opinion. It's a little rich it's full bodied, and it feels like a treat. Well, I did not try every beer. And there may be some real golden award winning phenomenal brews at this brewery. But I did not find them on my flight. I think pretty much everything else was IPAs. If you go know that you will be well taken care of. Absolutely get the french fries. They are a super treat. read more

Normally I'd be irritated with a restaurant being cash only, but the "karma" policy of trusting others to mail-in a check later-on is awesome (there is an ATM for those who don't have cash and are able to pay during their visit). My bison burger was everything! I'd order it again and again. You could taste the freshness of the bison and it was cooked so that the meat melts in your mouth. It had the addictive quality of a fast food burger, but the freshness of fine dining -- who wouldn't want that?! The servers all share tips, so the entire waitressing staff is willing to help and checked-in regularly.
