I was so impress with the chips in the Mountain Sun pearl branch that i return to the sister branch, Southern Sun on Broadway. Chips turn out to be over fried (very dark colored), with a burnt bitterness. However, kind enough to provide wirh another batch which is much lighter and with much less seasoning. The decorations here are really Colorado friendly and fun to look at while you eat! Our servers were nice and attentive, but we didn't really love the food . Came here with my best friend. This is such a cute place in boulder. They have great food the vibes are great and the service is amazing. One important thing to know they are a cash and check only establishment so be prepared for that. They have great food and awesome specials. We had the Barria tacos that were on the specials menu and they were delicious. You can go wrong coming here. The beers they had were also delicious. We tried to eat here, but the restaurant refused to accommodate our peanut allergy, forcing us to leave and eat at a different restaurant. Therefore, I cannot speak to the food quality but wanted to warn others with allergies to avoid this restaurant. Here's what happened: When we ordered, we informed our servers of a peanut allergy. The waiters told us they "could not guarantee no cross contamination." We then asked if there are any peanuts in the kitchen and they said yes, for one of the salads. We had ordered one salad (without peanuts, obviously), a burger, and a mushroom sandwich. We asked if they could inquire with the chef whether our meals are being prepared in an area with peanut contamination, and if we could cancel the salad for example, if the same cooking utensils and preparation area is used. They asked the kitchen but returned without any offer of accommodation. The waiters re-iterated that there could still be contamination. We asked how that could be, since we presume peanuts don't come into contact with every area of the kitchen and typically allergens are stored in a separate area. They did not answer our questions and stated again: "we cannot guarantee no cross-contamination." At that point, we felt we didn't have any other option but to leave. We said we were sorry but we could not eat there if they could not make any adjustments in order to ensure our food was safe for the person with the allergy. It was extremely frustrating. We have eaten at hundreds of restaurants around the country and explained the peanut allergy to many, many different chefs and waitstaff. Most often, the chefs are able to accommodate the allergy by simply preparing the dish in a different area or alerting us to areas of the kitchen where there's a risk of cross contamination (for example, if peanuts ever go in a fryer, we don't order fried food). Peanuts are an extremely common allergy and I'm disappointed that there were no alternatives provided by the restaurant. Rather than offer an accommodation or try to figure out a solution, they offered us a statement that felt like it was written by a lawyer. I hope this restaurant reconsiders their policies on this matter and considers keeping allergens in a separate area to ensure a safe and inclusive dining experience for everyone. In the meantime, if you have an allergy, I cannot recommend dining here. 2 stars because at least the servers were relatively nice about the whole thing and the inside ambiance was nice. read more

What a place! Even though they only take cash, it's well worth it. We sat outside with a great view of the Flatirons. And despite it being graduation weekend from CU, the service was fantastic. Drinks and food came quickly, and the wait staff was super friendly. My partner was disappointed with her veggie burger and sent it back. And not only did they comp the replacement dish, but they gave us a $20 gift certificate to use on our next visit. If we weren't from out of town and unlikely to be back in Boulder for a while, we'd be back in a heartbeat! read more

Luckily there is a Chase Bank behind this location for your cash needs. I recently have come to this location after some hikes and it's the perfect place to get your post workout grub and drink on! This past time we went I was stoked to see that it was Stout Month and their menu lives up to the name. Just enough beers to make it interesting without being overwhelming. They even had a few meals with stout in it as well. I got the Girl Scout Cookie Stout and it was thin mint perfection! The food is awesome here however my only gripe is when it comes to the spuds. Their default side is potato chips...meh....you can pay extra for fries but they aren't anything award winning but they do the trick. Their burgers are one of my go to meals and I recently tried their cauliflower wings and that may be my new favorite there. Only complaint there is they put the sauce on the side vs tossed. Little knits I realize but with a few minor tweaks this could be one of my fave establishments in Boulder! read more

Vegan chili, great beer, and Nate (manager) were the highlights-- we had a fantastic time twice and thoroughly enjoyed sipping on great beer with a view of Flatirons. Burgers were a bit small but the mexican flavors were all on point-- salsa was *great*, burritos were great, and best vegan chili I've ever tried (Mountain Sun's was watery and not as good, sadly.) Nate runs the place with an eye for atmosphere, and it starts with the staff attitude: everything is "yes!"; everyone seems to be geniunely friendly and enthusiastic about the products. Great hires. I live in the neighborhood and have been coming to Southern Sun for years. I met a couple friends at the bar who already had their drinks and I sat there patiently for 10 minutes waiting to order a drink. They would have continued to ignore me except one of my friends called out to someone and asked them to bring me a drink. It finally arrived 10 minutes later. It was the same thing when I tried to order food. When my food finally arrived I asked for silverware, a napkin, salt, ketchup and mayo at the same time. They would only bring one item at a time so I had to keep asking and they acted like I was putting them out each time. They were so rude. Sadly, the service has gone way downhill and I won't be going back for bad, greasy food and horrible service. read more

The ingredients were fresh and there were lots of toppings that added flavor. -Best thing about this restaurant was the ambience. It was decorated very cute inside with lots of colors and paints on the walls. They have plants hanging throughout the inside. Negatives: -We had a group of four people and they could not split a check for us. I feel like this should not be hard to just write them down two pieces of paper. Goodbye Southern Sun... it pains me to say this but after more than 15 years of consistent and regular patronage we can no longer tolerate the abysmal service of this south Boulder fixture. 4 of the last 5 times we've visited we've received "we're sorry" discounts because of the service. Even the latest 50% off our bill did little to make me feel any better about the current or future state of this business. 45 minutes to wait for two burgers - that arrived with the wrong sides and then after a 10-minute re-plate were served to us lukewarm... which was the same temperature as the manager's attitude when he approached us. "What's the problem?" Smug and impersonal this was his way of addressing and diffusing? WTF? Sad, because SoBo has few other options at this stage. The prices and vibe used to be perfect - our neighborhood gathering place. We're done. I feel bad for the staff- busting their butts but clearly management has profit priorities, not people. More than 2 servers said the same phrase, "we're going through a real rough patch with no end in sight." Sad for staff, disgust for management. read more

Went here on 8/11/23. First time to any of these brewpubs. (They are around Denver, Boulder and Longmont). Very fun atmosphere. They have pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, salads and entrees. Good selection of food. Good selection of beer. Lots of IPAs but good variety from light to dark. We tried the Kolsch and Sangria Sour. Pretty good. For food we tried the Hummus Platter, Shrimp and Grits and Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Everything was great! The staff was awesome. We didn't have just one server. Seems like all of the staff is working together to take care of all the tables. (Went to another restaurant recently that tried that concept, it did not work). They do prefer cash or check. They do take credit card but it is a 4% add on to your check. Will definitely be back. Cheers! read more

We went here tonight because their sister restaurant on the lower level was closed for a private event tonight and we did not know until we arrived. So up the flight of stairs we went, ready to eat. I knew it had been about a decade since I had been here and hoped that time had improved them. We stopped going when Under the Sun opened and much more suited us. Southern Sun did a really good job tonight. We ate outside as there was room on the large patio and not hot or cold, but a little bit breezy. The servers were outstanding and well covered the patio. I had a burger I had in the past, the Basil Blue Cheese. I loved the flavor combination back then but so many times at the end, the prep was really lacking. Tonight the roll was fresh, the basil leaf was fresh, the meat was fresh, beautiful fresh lettuce and tomato slices. The chips were nicely house made and lightly seasoned. I don't drink beer and I don't like their raspberry iced tea but cool enough outside to have nice cup/pot of Earl Grey. Just perfect. My husband had his local favorite Anna Purna Amber of the Mountain Sun's Brewery and his regular cheeseburger and fries. We hit the night's special so got a bit of a bargain. We will be including this place again, when we want to be in the area, where parking is free and easy. And the menu is different enough from Under the Sun that it won't get boring and we can do both locations going forward. My other annoyance with the group had been the policy of not taking credit cards. They discovered during Covid they really had to adjust that policy. They have, but with a service fee so at least they no longer trap you into using an ATM to pay. I don't find their pricing of comparative menu items any different than places that have always taken credit cards so I really still don't understand their long time reticence. But we do pay cash and have become more adapted to remember after so many years with this group. And now new arrivals are not embarrassed if they don't have cash with them. That is more customer friendly. read more

While walking on pearl st a guy gave me a card for a free order of fries or a pint at any of the Sun restaurants. A few days later after a morning climbing out at el dorado canyon I needed some gear at the nearby rock climbing store and in the same parking lot was souther sun pub. Remembering my free fire card I stopped in to get some last time I had the hatch burger at the pearl location so this time I went with the stellar amazing quesadilla. Normally I have to order no chicken on my quesadilla but at southern sun it comes veggie style just like I like it. Service, food and beer all 5 stars but apparently owner is so cheap and profit driven he wont pay 1.9% for customers fees they have to walk to ATMs or pay his ATM to eat here. Evolve...do it for your team so they can get 5 stars (or you have some other incentives to take only cash). read more

Got a completely raw burger to go from this place. Unbelievably bad work in the kitchen. They rotate all staff through all positions, including the kitchen. So I get to suffer the failures of someone who can't cook a ground meat patty so it's at least safe. Really inexcusable, so I have to share this with others on Yelp. Enjoy the beer, eat the burgers at your own risk, if you go at all. Attached pictures of the raw burger they allegedly cooked...not even seared on one side, barely seared on the other and completely red in the middle throughout. We went for date night Saturday and had a great time. Originally the host quoted us 1 hour for a table but we were able to find seats at the bar. My bf and I are doing dry January so sadly no brews were had (this time). We both ordered burgers that delivered!!! I had the date night burger and it never fails to disappoint. Sept. 3, 2025 approx. 4pm, restaurant not busy with plenty of staff. #1 No one bothered to greet me at the door or seat me. A ketchup-filling staff person said to seat myself. Okay. He came over to drop off a menu with napkin, fork and an obviously dirty knife with a large dried-on piece of salad - there was no greeting, no smile, not one word spoken to me (even after I said thank you). #2 There was wait and support staff milling around at end of bar and after trying to make eye contact with one of them so I could order a drink , I finally had to put my hand up to get someone's attention to come to my table. #3 Flies! Flies! Flies! Gross when flies keep trying to land on your plate and glass rims! Another staff member acknowledged them but never apologized nor offered to move me. (An apology can go a long way.) #4. My waiter never checked back with me after food runner delivered my burger and salad (which were pretty good) Later, again , I had to wave at the waiter to get another beer as he loitered at the bar with the others. He was johnny-on-the-spot when it came time to drop off the bill. Unfortunately for some of the other wait people, the tips are pooled. These complaints are not over-the-top service expectations. I am not a high-maintenance diner. Southern Sun's service and disrespectful, lazy staff are unacceptable. I won't be back and I don't recommend this place. read more

5 stars for one of the best and only reason why we drive from Denver...their AMAZING hot wings! Don't get me wrong, the beer is wicked good but oh boy, their breaded wings are to die for. Try them with ranch or blue cheese and you won't regret it. We just order 2 dozens and some of their delicious stout and we are set for the evening. Be sure to bring cash because they don't accept credit cards. They have an ATM there, which very conveniently only charges $1 fee. Staff is nice and helpful. I only wish they would reopen their location in Denver, Vine Street, so we don't need to drive all the way to Boulder please! read more

The outdoor seating is primo on a nice summer day, but the inside of the restaurant is big with lots of tables. I crave the sweet chili wings on a regular basis. Good burgers, lots of beers on tap. Delicious food! We tried Mountain Sun not long ago and wanted to try Southern Sun this time. I loved the steak sandwich at Mountain Sun so I had to get it again at Southern Sun. The sandwich was just as amazing as I remembered it. The steak is tender and not chewy and has really good flavor. The bread is perfect and the ratio to filling is great. The sandwich also has a really good amount of cheese and the horseradish sauce is so good. The chips were also good. We tried the poutine this time and it was awesome. They put so much gravy and the perfect amount of cheese. The small size was a perfect appetizer size for two if you're super hungry. Otherwise I'd say three people is better. I didn't try the burger but apparently it was delicious and the green chili on top was awesome. Great service and friendly people as always. The bathroom could've been cleaner and there is an atm in that hallway if you don't have any cash. read more

SWEET VIBES ARE HERE! Bring cash. The staff was very friendly! We had the cutest waitress who was patient and super helpful with the menu and beer selection. They will let you try any beer on the menu before ordering a full pint which I thought was very kind. Unfortunately, after trying a few and coming up unsuccessful, I opted for a "handcrafted margarita". I made a special note in my head to never do that again at a brewery. The margarita was extremely sour and unpleasant! My husband who is a "hoppy beer drinking man" really enjoyed his two picks. Honestly, if I had just ordered a diet coke and been naive to their drinks, this would have been a five star review because their food was MOUTHWATERING! I'd go back time and time again for their chicken wings, fried cauliflower and french fries. They were crispy, crunchy, hot and served with the best homemade dipping sauces: blue cheese, ranch, vegan blue cheese, sweet chili sauce, and zesty buffalo. To all those debating waiting for a seat at the usually packed Southern Sun, or the half empty Murphy's, realize that the fact there is a wait time (if any) it is for a good reason. Do you prefer a delicious dining experience with attentive and kind servers, or eating cardboard-esque, flavorless, middle school cafeteria-style garbage with sassy, rude, snooty servers? More simply put, would you rather eat at the Krusty Krab, or the Chum Bucket? Honestly, this is the place to BE! The servers are all awesome possums, and listen to my yammering stories about birds and other random interests. Both the chicken and cauliflower wings served at the Sun are EPIC, and if you can't finish them and take them home, they are still delicious days later. The ambiance is great; really nice artwork, great people and just an overall positive experience. They give beer samples which are all amazing, as is the food. Prior to a couple of days ago, I hadn't been here in a few years, so I'm not sure if they still have bands play certain days or have other events. However, even if not, the food, drinks, ambiance, and service are great enough to make this restaurant the best in the Table Mesa shopping center. Also seated in front of prep area, open to public viewing: Bold move for any restaurant, but clearly demonstrates a high confidence in the kitchen. Overall, indoor service at the bar was excellent.
