Black Onyx Cocoa Powder, Ghost Pepper Salt, & Herbs in Duxelles Seasoning.

Getting Spicy The Savory Spice Shop is a great place to find new and exciting flavors to add to your kitchen. They have all kinds of blends and spices native to various regions around the world. I'm sure they tapped into some quality selections that truly makes this a go-to spot for some unique foodie potions. The service was great considering we were directly chatting with the owner, Dan. He was awesome. Dan greeted us and showed us around a bit. He was even kind enough to share his knowledge on a few ingredients we had questions about. I can't speak for the rest of the staff but we loved the service we received this particular visit. I really wanted to see what this place was all about even though we had out kiddies with us. Knowing they'll be a handful we quickly tried to find a few things we can use for dinner. The verdict? 1oz of Ghost Pepper Salt, 1oz Herbs in Duxelles Seasoning, & 2oz Onyx Cocoa Powder. Just enough to give each a try and last for a good amount of recipes. The Ghost Pepper Salt is spicy with a pleasant chocolate note that highlights the heat. The salt works well. The Herbs in Duxelles Seasoning is simply rich with excellent mushroom flavors. The blend of seasonings and 3 types of mushrooms made this one a winner in my book. I love chocolate and when I saw the cocoas- I was convinced that I'd be walking out with something to bake with. I tried the 5 they had on display and the sweet, potent flavor and aroma of the Black Onyx Cocoa Powder was hard to pass up. I'll have to use it to really tell you folks what I really think. I was sad because I wasn't able to fully experience this shop since our kids were tired and wanted to go home from a long day spent downtown. The hubs and I will need to set up a time for a sitter and make our way back here to make our rounds and find more goodies to add to our growing pantry!

This local business imports , grinds and hand bottles a plethora of piquant spices from all over the world. You can sample them all on spot and while a tongue barbed with cloves is a challenge, the various types of cocoa in a bottle is a treat. They also have great mixes for bar-be-ques, steaks, hamburgers, etc. Another curious delight was "lavender sugar" and various types of sea salt which in addition to being tasty, can be a colorful decorator item. Lastly, the staff is fun and genuine; you can tell they love what they do. Terrific spot!

There is just something so charming about a spice shop; I love them! It's very intimate, smelling everything and imagining new ways in which you will use them. Savory has some really great options, no matter what it is that you're looking for. BBQ rubs? They have lots. Thought there was only one kind of cinnamon? Think again. Does your recipe specifically call for smoked Hungarian paprika? They have it. I could spend countless hours (and dollars) here...but to be honest, this weekend, we didn't have that kind of time. We walked in with a purpose; ceylon cinnamon and taco seasoning. One of the employees asked to help us, pointed out where we could find each and while she was working on bagging up what we need, we were able to peruse to our liking. We left with exactly what we came for, along with one additional item since we had that extra few minutes to spare. Friendly help, lots of options at a reasonable price. Yes. So much yes.

One of my favorite new spices! Amazing on seared scallops or any fresh fish.

I am addicted to the Savory Spice Shop. They offer quality spices that can transform average meals into gourmet meals. My family has loved the transformation in my cooking. I frequently stop in to see what's new. They have fun recipes on hand for some of their spices which I love. This allows me to make extraordinary new meals. This location does not have some of my favorites that I used to get in Oklahoma, so that makes me a little sad. But overall they keep a great variety of spices on hand. When you walk in you may feel overwhelmed with the smell, but it's truly a unique and adorable little spice shop. It's located right off Pearl Street in a renovated old building. Savory Spice shop is a must try!!

    The BEST smoked Spanish paprika!

The service was amazing and the entire staff was so knowledgeable about the menu. Every time they would bring us something, they explained each ingredient and the person that made it. I've heard they have amazing breakfast burritos at the Market so I'll need to come see for myself sometime soon. Would totally recommend and will be bringing out of town visitors here to show off.

I hate to do this except I'm kind of sick and tired and tired and sick of the bullshit that happens…read morein Boulder. Supposed to be such a progressive place, right? Well, it is as long as you're not Black. I have been coming to this place since it opened. My relationship with Black Belly has lasted longer than my last marriage and would probably have lasted longer than what will be my subsequent marriage and maybe the one after that... but unfortunately, it has to go the way of those men! Last night, I stopped in for just a simple espresso martini so that I could stay awake for planned festivities... everything was fine, but one of the bartenders did give me a really nasty look when I sat in front of him. Now this is a shame because this is actually a fellow person of color and being that I am part Asian, Blasian on my mother's side: what I'm about to describe really does not sit well with me specifically. As I was going to leave, he mockingly asked if I changed my mind and wanted another. Or, after talking about how he has this roommate who only likes chicken fingers to other customers with disdain for said roommate's unrefined palate, told me he could instead get me some chicken fingers from the back while literally cackling AT me.... ?! Excuse me? So, I won't say how I responded, but it was appropriate and I immediately walked out, and I don't know how it could ever be made up to me to walk back in... Mocking a Black woman to her face and asking her if she wants some fried chicken from the back?! Wtf!!! I have had fine dining experiences all over the world certainly all over the state and the only other time I've experienced more egregious treatment was in Aspen: which I expect. To be clear, I have eaten at this location on more occasions than I can count as I have already expressed; that includes the front deli as well as the main dining room and at the bar. This assumption about my palate if meant innocently (it wasn't, the other bar patrons and bartender were visibly horrified!) was in poor taste at best. At worst, well... So get it together, Black Belly management. I also heard that your bartenders don't need to go to meetings? Maybe they should at the very least receive a little bit more training on basic professionalism! The food here is excellent. I couldn't bring myself to do one star; but, not worth macro racial aggression especially from a man! Major ick.
