Great location and atmosphere but the food was meh. We had the pork sandwich and a veggie burger, would absolutely not recommend the burger! This spot is definitely not for those with dietary restrictions. The sandwich was okay, nothing special. Pickles and fries were my favorite part. Waitresses seemed a bit inexperienced, for example failed to let us know that adding avocado to the burger would be an upcharge of $4. We waited a while for our check besides being the only ones in the heated tent outside. I would not recommend this place for the food but would be a nice spot to enjoy a few drinks. read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday - good selection of beer and my friends and I had lunch. The good was typical pub fare, but the fries were seriously dry and old... all of us had fries (2 had reg, 1 had steak fries). My veggie burger was great and filling - well seasoned. My friend had the pork schnitzel sandwich and it was really dry. Loved the burger, hated the old fries. I will come back and try another item and hopefully add a new 5 star rating! My nephew decided to meet up for dinner at the tavern. It was an experience for us 30 y/o + ladies. It was rockin at every level of the restaurant. There was live music and a local beer being promoted with complimentary beer. The food was OK. My mother in law and I shared the pulled pork plate which had lots of hard pieces. My sister got a pulled pork grilled cheese and that was divine. The collard greens was bitter and hardly had flavor. The waffle fries are a must though! The service was OK as well. It's pretty busy so you kind of have to really flag them down. It's a cool hip place with lots of booze. If you like the outdoor atmosphere this is a perfect place. The roof top is so intimate and has a great view. Just try not to sit in the backside of the roof top. read more

What a treat!! We started with the burnt ends, green chili cornbread and dirty wings. The burnt ends were possibly the best ends I have ever had and I consider myself a bbq critic, cornbread was out of this world and the wings were perfectly crispy and tender. For entrees I had the Amigo cheesesteak and the wife had the fish and chips, hands down the best fish fry I have ever had and the best cheesesteak I have had. They shave their smoked prime rib for the cheesesteak mixed with green chilies and I think poblano peppers, out of this world. The location itself is very cool with a collection of spirits that will impress. We were in Denver for a volleyball tourney and ate twice there even though we had to drive 45 minutes to make it happen! read more

First time in Boulder, my brother took us to The West End Tavern, (his favorite bbq restaurant eatery in the country). I have to admit, I was hesitant to have bbq; however, our waiter assured me of my order and he nailed it. Kenny was super helpful when explaining the menu and we ordered the dirty wings (Kenny's favorite) and they were delicious! I would 100% recommend this to Boulder locals and visitors. A last minute find via Yelp...sign out front says Beer, Bourdon and BBQ! We went for lunch so didn't order any beer or bourdon, but their selection of bourdon was the best I've ever seen! And the prices were great as well. We started our lunch experience by sharing the deviled eggs appetizer. I love deviled eggs! And these were delicious....topped with a dab of hot sauce...perfect! My husband ordered the Carolina pulled pork sandwich with French fries and I ordered the daily special...smoked turkey rueben with side order of cole slaw. Both of our meals were good...I wasn't fond of the cole slaw but that's because I'm from the south and don't care for vinegar based cole slaw...I like my Mayo!! This is one of my favorite spots in Boulder. It's a great venue that really incapsulates several different types of places all in one. When you first walk in, it appears to just be a small, nice bar with maybe 10 barstools and 5 booths on the other side. As you continue in, you can head upstairs where there is covered and uncovered portion of a rooftop patio. Now on to the food and beer. The food is killer, it's mostly BBQ, but they also have great burgers and sandwiches, as well as some vegetarian options which is helpful since my wife is a vegetarian. Specifically, a few of my favorite entrees are the brisket, fish and chips, and chicken and waffles. For appetizers, give the cornbread, picnic eggs, and tots a try. They also have a great beer selection. After a hike in Chataqua on a beautiful day, go sit out on the rooftop patio, order a beer and any of the amazing food - you will not be disappointed. read more

When you walk into West End the first things you notice are that it is dark, and cheap looking. They have a bunch of beers on tap, but that is their only redeeming quality. We stopped here the other day for a late lunch and all agreed that it was one of the worst places we've been to, food and service wise. We were first sat at a booth that hadn't been cleaned so we asked to move. Our waitress was incredibly rude, rolled her eyes at us multiple times, and forgot one order then proceeded to blame it on us. I didn't eat here because there were no options for me, being a vegan, however the waitress was really disrespectful when I asked questions about the food and if there was something I could eat. She continued to come up behind us and just stare at each of us then walk away without saying anything. It was really weird and we have never experienced this type of service. I ended up leaving half-way through the meal. For my friends that did eat, they said the food was okay. They did really enjoy the sauces that were at the table, but the food itself wasn't out of this world. With so many other incredible places on Pearl Street, you could very easily pick something much better! read more

The menu had craft sliders, burgers, sandwiches, fries and other "tavern" type food. I was a little disappointed in the lack of variety on the menu. Was hoping for more sides (a la carte) or entrees. FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!! We have traveled all over the country and eat barbecue from many different states, this is the best we have had so far!! The staff was incredibly friendly, I really appreciated feeling like I had time to sit and eat. Many places will make you feel rushed to leave, but the staff here really made us feel welcome. They even made me a spiked lemonade which wasn't on the menu! We had the goat cheese fondue for appetizer and it was SO GOOD! Perfect place for happy hour! My fiancé and I stopped in just before the end of happy hour and grabbed seats at the bar. The staff was super friendly and they changed the channel so we could watch the NFL game that was on. The happy hour special was great and we ordered the fries extra well done. Decided on this place for lunch when we were in town as it received so many good reviews on Yelp. Let me say it did not disappoint! We sat upstairs, which looks like it can become all open up there when its warmer out as the windows can all roll up. Our waitress was so friendly and was always checking on us. I ordered their Shrimp Po Boy- ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, along side with their brussel sprouts (recommended by the server) and they were GREAT, they were seasoned perfectly and worth the $1 up charge. My husband ordered their special that day which was their Lamb-wich with fries. He loved it, and said it was excellent. We also received 3 free buffalo chicken wings when checking in on yelp, so we had those for our appetizer and being from buffalo we know a good wing when we taste it- and they were very very good! They also have a good beer menu to order from as we both also had some beers which were delicious. I highly recommend this to others to go and check out. Id love to go back! read more

My girlfriend was craving some BBQ so I went on Yelp and found this place had the best/ most well rounded reviews. A couple aspects during our visit made it an amazing experience. I will elaborate, but the short version is: fast seating, great service, awesome, filling food that's reasonably priced. We arrived and was immediately greeted by a hostess who seated us right away at a booth, it was hot that day so we didn't wait for a rooftop table. The ambience is on the dim side, with lights at each table. Classic guitar songs in the background was a nice touch. It felt private and intimate, and it was easy to converse and hear each other at the table. Our waitress, Brittney, saw me checking in on Yelp and offered to get the free wings (from the check-in) ready before I said anything or ordered any food! When our food arrived (BBQ pork sandwich on a brioche bun with fries, Mac & Cheese, smashed potatoes & onions, and pulled pork platter) Brittney explained the two house BBQ sauces, one's ketchup based, the other is mustard based. They were both great and tangy. The fries were crispy and there was a lot. The house made pickles were unique and fresh tasting. We finished all of them. The Mac & cheese was good and my girlfriend devoured the sandwich. The pulled pork was good but one of my favorites is the cole slaw. I don't like the traditional mayo kind, and the one I ate had crisp apple and fresh herbs. I finished it before my pulled pork! The wings were another highlight. They were flavor and the skin was crispy. My girlfriend who doesn't usually eat wings had three. We got both the buffalo & the dirty (honey, chile, & garlic). The servers were attentive but never bothersome. The manger even stopped by to ask how the food was! The whole experience was very comfy and satisfying. I am disappointed by the customer service. One of my buddy's ID's was rejected. He is a truck driver with a new class A CDL licence and is over 21. the manager said he didn't want to serve him because he'd never seen it before. He said that his "book of IDs" didn't match and didn't even swipe or scan the card to see if it was real. After our meal we went downstairs to the bar and the bartender said that his id was indeed real and offered him a drink. Upon recommendation, West End Tavern was bookmarked for happy hour. It is one of the most affordable downtown Boulder restos already, so add on some really good deals from 3-6 pm. It was a VERY hot summer's day when visiting, so a cold Avery beer was absolutely necessary as soon as I walked in the door. That and a tall glass of water, which was refilled promptly each time. We definitely over-ordered for two people: deviled eggs, wings, ribs, pickles and two more drinks. I was expecting tiny portions and my gut was both surprised and scared in the attempt to eat everything brought out to the bar. On a non-sweltering day, it's fun to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the dry heat. However, on a day like I visited in June, the air-conditioned dark wood bar did juuuust fine. Grand total for four drinks and all of the food listed: less than $40. That is a great deal in fancy pants land and I would definitely go back for more happy hours. read more

The french dip is the best I have ever had. It was tender, moist and included horseradish aioli, grilled onions. Crispy fried and we also ordered the Cole slaw, which was a vinegar based with fennel, great. French dips are usually bland but not this one. The bun it is on is soft and so good. Speechless after the way we were treated today. By both our bartender Deadra and the manager on duty. Still trying to figure out what we did to receive such treatment. Visited around 1:30 is when we got there today (7/3) and there was only seating at the bar which was fine because we usually prefer the bar. Took about 5-10 minutes to get acknowledged but that was okay because we saw that it was busy and we were in no rush. Bartender is finally able to take our drink order. Somehow she only gets my girlfriends and not mine, brings my girlfriend her drink and I thought she was ready to take our order so I start to order but then realize she didn't get my drink so I order it again, so then it took even longer until we both had our drinks. Still haven't gotten our food order in and we've probably been there 20 minutes now. Again we realize it's busy and we work in the industry so we keep shrugging it off. It's a small bar and it's almost a holiday plus the Grateful Dead is in town. Maybe staff properly so your bartender isn't too busy and giving attitude to guests. She is finally able to take our food order and as my girlfriend is about to give hers Deadra makes me aware that she didn't get my order and I let her know that I was letting my girlfriend order first. But it was the way she said it to me was very disrespectful. My girlfriend puts in her order and Deadra then turns around completely neglecting me and starts putting the order in. Well I never got to tell her what I wanted. So I have to get someone else's attention to put my order in. We get our food and decided we'd like to let a manager know what's going on. And we start to explain to him the situation and how we've been ignored and treated and we get the whole "it's busy" which I'm sorry but that's not a good enough excuse at this point. The manager did not care at all about our concerns or how we were treated. I can't remember what his name was that's why I listed the time and day we visited to maybe help you figure out which employees wronged us. After the manager walked away Deadra then comes up to us all confrontational and goes "is there a problem?!" We were even more shocked at this point and just wanted to leave. My girlfriend didn't even finish her food. We will never visit this location again and will be sure to tell anyone visiting boulder to stay far far away. Please tell Deadra and the manager working at the time they really need to learn people skills. And I personally don't think Deadra can handle how busy it gets there. read more
