We have only been to Wayne's two or three times since they rebuilt after the Marshall Fire, Dec. 30th, 2021. Wayne's house burned completely down and the kitchen and restaurant in the shopping center in Superior, just south of Boulder, were severely damaged. It took them well over a year to rebuild and reopen. We decided this past Labor Day Weekend, to supply our own meals with their BBQ, sides and dessert. Since reopening, they have maintained a very short week to be open because of many time and financial constraints. They still open at 11am and serve until about 2pm or until the majority of the prepared food is gone. They also work all of the hours from before dawn every day to smoke and cook all of the meats, sides and desserts, fresh each day. The schedule is just to be open Friday and Saturday, leaving them some quality of family life the rest of the week. In the very early years Wayne was there himself, doing almost all the smoking, cook prep, and lunch every day with a very small staff. That became unsustainable when the place built such a huge following and he hired a lot of staff that needed training. He had learned these recipes and techniques growing up near Austin TX, so this is classic Texas BBQ. In fact, the original form of the famous peach cobbler dessert was his own mother's recipe. It has been altered a little over the years to make serving in such volume better and this very latest version is the best yet. Every serving is the same balance of batter, peaches and cinnamon topping. It is generous and has wonderful flavor and texture and is served warm. At home we usually reheat it if we don't finish it all the first day. But it is still good cold, too. If we drive so far and wait in line to get in, we always buy enough for a few meals. It's absolutely worth it. The higher price than the mass producers is worth very penny. It's really homemade with quality ingredients. In the past, I almost always got the brisket, always chose the lean end (yes you get a choice and the side is still warm from the cooker/smoker in front of you). All of the meats are purchased by weight as you would in a butcher shop. My husband almost always has the ribs. We were the first in on Saturday, as we arrived 30 minutes before opening and the line formed behind us with quite a group ready for the doors to open. Since we had first pick and when we saw the first rack of ribs opened, we just bought the whole thing. We also bought a selections of sides and as I had not been here in so long, I bought way too much. We did not need the mashed potatoes so we only ate about 1/3 of it. But we ate absolutely everything else, the BBQ beans, the cole slaw, the green chile mac and cheese, the peach cobbler. We always get the original BBQ sauce that they make but there is also a house spicy and a house mustard. They do charge for the sauces these days and if you plan to use a lot, buy the bigger tub. But the meat is so flavorful, just one or 2 of the tiny size would be enough. They started making these tiny containers for each customer during the pandemic when they had to give up the communal bottles on the table and this system seems nice and fresh to me. I don't mind paying and they buy and hand fill these serving size cups which I appreciate. I have heard some other people do not. But it's very inexpensive. We enjoyed every morsel of the meals. It's my favorite mac and cheese around, the ribs were still hot, tender, crispy, and with buying the whole rack, we got the entirety of both burnt ends, which I love too. It's really worth the effort to do this, but once a summer is probably our limit. I plan not to miss any more years, though. They do still have tables inside which are used heavily during a normal work week for the crowds they get from nearby businesses. But honestly, I think most of their customers are there to take home a full shopping bag to serve at home for family and friends, for no stress events without cooking yourself. read more

Wayne's Smoke Shack is definitely one of the best barbecue spots I've ever had. I was very excited to visit this place after reading some stellar reviews across various platforms - and it definitely exceeded expectations. The restaurant is only open Friday and Saturday 11am - 3 pm. This is a very popular spot amongst local, so get here as soon as it opens. We arrived around 11:30 am and there was already a long line that formed. It can take awhile to get to the front, but it's definitely worth the wait! We ordered the ribs and the brisket with mashed potatoes, beans and mac n cheese. We also ordered candied pork belly (not in the attached image). I believe the ribs and brisket are their popular options. Both were very flavorful. The ribs fell right off the bone. The brisket was juicy and tender. However, the candied pork belly was definitely an underdog. It was my favorite meat because it had that sweet and very rich barbecue flavor which made every bite so dreamy. For the sides, I didn't really find any over-the-top, but they were decent. Maybe the mac n cheese was a bit on the dry side, but still really good to pair with the barbecue. read more

This is, so far, my favorite barbecue place in the greater Denver metropolitan area. Given the quality of food here, I sort of expect it to stay that way. We arrived early and waited at their patio tables with the other acolytes. We all chatted while in line, and the regulars gave us their opinions on favorites. It was just my husband and I, but we wanted to try lots of different meats, and this place makes that easy, as you can order small amounts by weight (or by bone, in the case of the ribs). We still ordered too much, but it was all delicious, and we had leftovers. By far the most cravable item here is the Smoke Shack candied pork belly; crispy and salty-sweet on the outside and meltingly tender within. Wayne's signature St. Louis ribs were also a winner, with an almost candied exterior...salty, sweet, spicy and slightly crackled...with meat that still had a bit of a bite and was on the right side of falling off the bone. In other words, perfect. The brisket and sausage were both delicious and, again, just really well smoked. For sides we kept it light (ha!) with the fresh & zesty coleslaw and Southern green beans. Unsweetened iced tea, my personal choice, is available too, so I have zero complaints and expect to return often. read more

Wayne's could be the best bbq in Colorado. If it was closer to Denver, I'd say it'd be in the top 2 in the Denver Metro area with Riot BBQ. The brisket here is my favorite in Colorado. You order at the counter like you would at a true Texas BBQ, and the line moves quickly. This is one of those places where the meat itself is so good that you can go sauceless and still love your meal. Inside, it's large tables with bench seating where you'll share tables with other BBQ fans. It's a laid back, comfortable environment where you're almost guaranteed to talk to someone who isn't part of your group. Wayne's is also part of the community. They have a loyal following, even with their extremely limited hours, because they invest in and give back to the community they're in. We arrived about 30 minutes before the 11am opening time. There was already a handful of people ahead of us. My advice is to arrive early because lines can get long and items can sell out quickly. Both items i tried were some of the best I have ever had anywhere. The sliced brisket was so tender and really didn't need sauce. Besides, the sauce is extra! THE MEATS Ribs - 5+ Pork Belly - 5+ Smoked Salmon - 5+ Fatty Brisket - 5 Okay, let's explain. The Ribs and Smoked Salmon were my favorite, while the Pork Belly was my other half's favorite. However, I'd truly have all four meats again and again! They were Grade A, Top Quality in flavor, seasoning and juiciness. THE SIDES Homemade Bread - 5+ Mac N' Cheese - 4 Okay, let's explain. The Homemade Bread may have been our favorite part of the whole meal! It was fluffy, fresh and the perfect vessel for our Fatty Brisket. Together, the combo was a 5++ for make it at your table Brisket BBQ Sandwich. THE SAUCES Mild BBQ Sauce - 5 Hot BBQ Sauce - 5+ Okay, let's explain. We got to meet the owner and they shared the story of how long Wayne's Smoke Shack is been on business. Also, they helped us with recommendations and what to try as well. Being from Denver, a friend recommended we go up and give Wayne's a try, as it is his favorite bbq in the greater Denver area. We weren't disappointed. All the meats were "melt-in-your-mouth" good. Personal favorites of ours were 1. Pulled pork 2. Ribs/pork belly 3. Brisket. The bark on the ribs and belly was so sugary and smokey.. just delicious. We ordered too much food but the pulled pork and Mac and cheese were still great as left overs the next day. Easy to over spend when it's order by the pound and you want to try it all. The bbq sauce does cost extra which surprised me since we were spending $80 on the rest of the food.. but the bread was included if asked for and I would DEFINITELY recommend getting some! I was surprised to see only a few people inside (I wonder if the sudden snowfall had something to do with it). More BBQ for us I guess! - Brisket: We ordered a pound, which sounds like a lot, doesn't look like a lot (4 thick slices), but as other reviews have said, it's also deceptively filling! We were given the option of choosing either the juicy part or the more lean part, which no other BBQ joint we've been to has done before. - Macaroni and cheese: Thick and creamy. - Homemade bread: Soft, fluffy, and perfect for making a brisket sandwich. - A pickled jalapeno: The Mr thought I would like an entire pickled jalapeno for some reason lol. I like that it wasn't too sour. - BBQ sauces: OG was definitely our favorite; classic savory and sweet. The mustard one was nice as well. The heat has a nice kick. For some reason it reminded me of the Mexican candies I had as a kid (maybe hinting at a tamarind flavor?) I think everything is a la carte. Their BBQ sauces are not complimentary; you pay for each one, but it's quite affordable. There are so many sides to choose from! Nine years later, a lot has changed at Wayne's, but a lot has stayed the same. I took my BBQ buddy there for her first ever visit today. It was the first time I've been to Wayne's in several years. Since I was here last, they doubled in size, we had a worldwide pandemic, Wayne's house and restaurant burned in the big fire, and the store has been fixed back up better than ever. Wayne's is only open two days a week at the moment - Friday and Saturday. And then only for lunch, from 11am until they're sold out or 3pm, whoever comes first. We arrived at 11:01 right as they were opening the door, and there was a line of 10 or 12 people waiting outside. It took around a half hour of waiting until it was our turn to order. Since it was my guest's first time, I ordered a good sample of delights. Brisket, salmon, pork belly, green beans, green chile mac & cheese, peach cobbler, sticky toffee "pudding", and two fountain drinks. It was a feast. Everything was great except for the green beans. They looked as good as Bayou Bobs' but didn't taste as good as they looked. The brisket was, of course, top notch. That's why most people come here. But the salmon and the pork belly were also delicious. Everyone was melt-in-your mouth soft. And the two desserts were the perfect ending. The first time I went to Wayne's, I lived in Boulder and worked in Broomfield. Now, nine years later, I live and work in Denver. So I don't get to Superior very often. I've personally always wanted to try Texas BBQ and unfortunately haven't been to Texas yet (Definitely would like to go and try!), so I decided to swing by Wayne's Smoke Shack try something that is closest I could get to Texas for the time being! I went on a Thursday lunch rush around 12 pm and there was a long line stretching from the counter around to the back of the seating area, total wait time around 18 minutes. Definitely a popular spot for some delicious barbecue, so would recommend coming earlier. I got the Beef Brisket, Candied Pork Belly, and Pork shoulder. Man, the food was fantastic if you are someone that loves rich flavors and fatty cuts of meat, and I'm definitely someone that does. The brisket was really moist and tender, but definitely needed a little bit of sauce to complement it. The pork belly was my favorite, the bark had a pleasing sweet and slight spicy flavor to it and the pork belly itself was rich in flavor and just melted in your mouth. The pork shoulder was a little salty though, would recommend trying that with some sauce to mellow down the salt. But overall, the meats were delicious and flavorful. This place isn't super cheap if you are looking for quantity, but the richness of the meats will definitely fill you up. I paid about $32 for two slices of pork belly, a slice of beef brisket, 0.25 ounces of Pork shoulder, and a baked bean side - definitely pricey but you pay for the quality of the meat you receive here. Texas BBQ is what's lunch. I've had this place book marked on Google for years and finally I was able to make it today. They open at 11am - 2pm Thursday Friday Saturday. If you want the wagyu sausage or the smoked salmon better get here at 11am they often sell out. The candy pork belly was dope but the brisket, is what I have to write home about: Sliced brisket moist to perfection. Obligatory covid safety measures- everyone behind the counter is wearing gloves and masks. The kitchen is pretty open so you can see the majority of what is going on behind the counter- always nice to see in a restaurant! I felt very safe eating here. We arrived around noon on a Saturday. A friend warned us that they run out of stuff quickly, so we called ahead to make sure they still had some meat left. When we arrived, they were out of most sides except for chips and baked beans. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind (the earlier you go the better). The baked beans looked a little funky, but they tasted great! Really different from other bbq restaurants in the area. The candied pork belly was my favorite part of the meal. I really liked the sweetness of the bark, mixed with the tenderness of the pork. The brisket was melt in your mouth good too, although the wet brisket was really fatty (not a bad thing, but something to be aware of). All the bbq sauces were excellent, although I'm not a huge plain mustard fan so I don't know that I would get the mustard based one again. LOCAL SUPPORT SUNDAY! My family and I are still continuing to support one new place every week. This week happened to catch our eye on the way to Costco. There were a couple of signs up for BBQ and we couldn't wait! The time for this restaurant is hard to predict because they are open at 11 am until SOLD OUT! Which means anytime after 11 they could be out of something already, so we didn't take that chance. We arrived at 11:01 am...there was a line out the door. We waited in line for about 15 mins, they were pretty quick and I appreciated the 6ft distance lines thy provided outside. Once we were at the counter we were prompted to order, my family decided on: 1. 2 lbs of brisket half and half (lean and fatty); the biggest disappointment is that they didn't have an in between. Once we got it home, the lean pieces were dry and un flavorful, but the fatty was too much fat that half of the pieces had to be mostly fat and inedible. The sauces are extra currently so we opted to have the BBQ sauce at home. The BBQ sauce made it a little bit better. 2. 3/4 lbs Candied Pork Belly: oh my, oh my. This was AMAZING! I would go back just for the pork belly. It had a nice char on it and so delicious. It was truly like eating candy. I honestly liked it better once it wasn't fresh. It had a better bite, versus when it was fresh it was really slippery and hard to ear/cut. 3. Small side of Beans with Pork: this side was sweet and complimented the brisket very well. It gave it the flavor it was definitely missing. 4. Small side of Mac & Cheese: this had a nice flavor of Green Chile, BUT did not have enough cheese. Wish for more cheese next time! 5. Medium side if Peach Cobbler: yum, delicious, warm, and PERFECTION. Would definitely recommend! It was soft and almost melt-in-your-mouth dessert. Should've had an extra side to this side. All orders of meat come with complimentary bread, pickles, and onions. The bread was slightly sweet and when you eat it with meat, it makes a delicious sandwich. The onions are raw, but if you put it in the sandwich it compliments it well. The pickles are delicious by itself, but never hurt in the sandwich. Probably should've had more pickles as a side. Overall this place was okay! I would go back for the pork belly, but still need to find a place for good brisket! It was hard to grab photos because my family attacked everything-we brought some family from out of town to join in our local support Sunday. Fat & HAPPY! My flight from Raleigh arrived just after 10 am into the Denver airport, and I immediately took a Lyft to Wayne's Smoke Shack. I had heard good things about it, and I am happy to say the food lived up to the hype. I arrived just after 11, and there was already a line for food. I chatted with a few people in line before deciding to try the Mac & Cheese. I knew based on the numerous reviews that I wanted to try Brisket and Pork Belly. I got 1/2 lb of Moist Brisket (the options are moist or lean) and 1/4 lb of Pork Belly. I decided to try the Southern Sweet tea (because I am from NC, and it makes me happy). Both meats were really good and flavorful. The Mac & Cheese was OK (didn't have a major cheese flavor and didn't need the pepper they add to it). As a girl who has lived in NC for almost 25 yrs, when I got the Southern Sweet tea, I was expecting a lot more sweetness than I got; they either forgot the sugar or need to update the recipe for Southern Sweet tea. I switched to the pineapple sweetened tea, and that was better (for me). The food was SO good! I have been craving more since I left. My co-workers took turns sending me pictures of their food from Wayne's today. I am already trying to figure out how to get some Wayne's for our next meeting in Broomfield. Okay, this review is loooong overdue. I've been a fan of Wayne's for literally YEARS, and I'm just getting around to writing my review. What am I thinking!? To start, my first experience at Wayne's was well before their expansion; the restaurant was maybe half the size, and the same dudes were always working when boyfriend and I would drop in for some of their super bomb bbq. So nice, so friendly, and so chill. Loved every moment of every experience there. Since their expansion, I've only been in a couple of times, but haven't at all been disappointed during any one of my visits. So down to the nitty gritty. The restaurant is located in a large shopping center, and is one of only a handful of choices in the area; the shopping center is huge, so parking has absolutely never ever been an issue. He storefront boasts a humble facade (does that statement contradict itself?!), and shares its walls with small businesses on either side. Walking into the new, larger dining area, there are a bunch of family-style, community picnic type tables for everyone to pop a squat at, and a smaller number of more isolated table/booth seats for small parties. The decor is straight up Texan; I think every photo in the place is referencing a Texas bbq place! It's fun and quirky, but sooo not the focal point, though, because... hello... BARBECUE!? The process of ordering is always super easy. The menu is crazy straightforward, and they're on top of letting guests know what is and is not available; I'm sure I'll mention this more than once, but all meats are cooked fresh DAILY, and they have a limited supply of everything, so the key is to get in early to make sure you fill your belly with exactly what you want. Anyway, after you decide on your choice of meat, you'll let them know the weight you're interested in having, and then scooch on down the line to choose the yummy sides that will accompany your delish protein. Like I said l, stuff sells out, so in addition to choice of meat, depending on the time you're there, your choice of a side might not be as expansive as you may be expecting. I've always gone with either coleslaw, homemade Mac and cheese, or baked beans (with super yummy green chilis in it!!), or a combination of the aforementioned. You'll then be asked if you're interested in a complimentary piece of Texas toast - not toasted lol - decide on drinks, pay, and then get to feast. I am usually a sucker for their juicy pork shoulder or roasted turkey (YUUUUUUM), and my main squeeze is a lean brisket fan. We both love the mac and cheese, but I flip flop between coleslaw and the green chili baked beans; he USUALLY opts for the coleslaw, but I digress. The food is soooo yummy, the staff is nice as I'll get out, the atmosphere is chill, and prices aren't too terribly crazy (maybe $25-$30 for two people). This is a place you absolutely need to visit if you're a fan of slow cooked, slow smoked, and tasty barbecue. read more

Hands down the best bbq in Colorado! Great cuts of meat and awesome seasoning, doesn't even need bbq sauce. Only open 8 hours a week but worth any wait times. read more

Texas style bbq in Colorado...yes please! 12/17/2020- My first time to Wayne's and the only disappointment I had was that they were out of brisket. Nothing to sob over since luckily they still had delicious smoked turkey and incredible pork shoulder. First the turkey- this is not something I would typically get a bbq spot, but very glad I did. The flavor was delicious. Just the right spices and very tender. Will definitely get a small slice again if it is available, I don't think it is only served seasonally but I'll ask on the next visit. Second, the pork shoulder. The pulled pork was certainly the highlight of the meal. If I could make pulled pork this freaking good I would never leave the house. I've been to the great state of Texas many times and although they are known for brisket they certainly know how to smoke some epic pulled pork too. Wayne's has basically perfected pulled pork. I really enjoyed the green chili mac & cheese as well. The bbq sauces were also very good! Some notes- I will definitely be back to try the brisket. And I did not see any sweet tea, that is basically a must have to wash down some bbq. I'm glad its only a short drive from Boulder. Enjoy! read more
