Nice portion of shredded brisket on a soft bun. We chose the Tangy slightly sweet bbq sauce. They had a few choices of sauce. The brisket had a nice Smokey flavor. I found it abit dry, but good with sauce. I added the coleslaw on mine & it was tasty. Nice crunchy home made slaw. The Mac & cheese was great. Creamy,cheesy& yummy. The beans were the best. Very cool little place - casual, feels like a BBQ joint. Very nice meats with a relatively small selection - actually liked that. They have normal sandwiches and plates but also these "BBQ parfaits" - a bowl layered with everything you love in a handy little bowl. Ribs - excellent - well smoked, great sweet sauce, meaty beans - mediocre - used to just good pintos, these had a lot of added spices - a little too much I thought. potato salad - ok- kind of bland Not sure I'd make a special trip with so many other good BBQ places around but if you are in the area its solid food. read more

Friends here love the BBQ ribs. I can only speak to what I had---the June Bowl (a meat and a side in a bowl). I was leaning toward mac 'n cheese with pulled pork but when I asked what the most popular combo was, I was told it was beans, mashed potatoes and a meat choice. I went with that and chose the brisket. I would order it again. The drizzled tangy sauce (my choice) through out. Ok, so judged strictly by the meat, this is not the best bbq in the area. But the evaluation shouldn't end there: when you want dinner without worrying whether a place sold out mid-afternoon, it is tasty and reliable comfort food, and the building is a great environment. Given that, the focus of the menu is correctly on ensembles, like sandwiches and the quite satisfying June Bowl that smashes a bunch of stuff together, rather than straight meat. Take this signal and enjoy. The sides are all tasty, I really like the beans, lots of flavor and meat in them. Delicious, I could go for another brisket sandwich while writing this review! The moment you walked in you know it's going to be good bc the smells smack ya right in face! I had the brisket sandwich with beans as my side. Beans were some of the best I've ever had. A bit Smokey. Brisket was so tender. It was pulled and not sliced if that's what your used to. Had the tangy and the medium sauce. Both were very good! Polite service and loved that it wasn't chain feeling. The menu is simple bbq which is the best kind. Yes yes yes. I love The KT Holiday Bowls offered around Thanksgiving. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy. And a dollop of cranberry sauce on top. All in one bowl. Too bad for you folks who don't like your different foods touching. It's delicious. I could/would eat it all year if they served it. Hint hint. Just ok bbq but the price is reasonable for what you get. I had a pulled pork sandwich and slaw both were just average and maybe yesterdays offering because it didn't seem fresh. Ok for a quick stop but I won't be going out of my way for a repeat visit. For the price its a good buy. Also the store has a warm and welcoming setting to it. Definitely a well run Ma/Pa shop. Employees were welcoming and appreciative. $11 for a decently sized sandwich and 2 sides + a drink (or three sides) is a great deal. Pork shoulder sandwich: 6/10 Bread is great and the pork is tasty but too dry. Mac'n cheese: 5/10 Not creamy enough. Needs more cheese. Noodles are good. Potatoes: 9/10 Excellent potatoes. Very obviously made freshly in shop. Creamy and fluffy, super tasty. Beans: 9/10 Smoky and sweet with a slight spice kick. Can someone please open a good BBQ joint in Boulder County? The ribs were chewy, tough and underdone. REAL smoked ribs fall off the bone and have the right smoked crust - these appeared to be oven-baked (nowhere near long enough) with fake smoke added. Brisket was just OK and in a big pile rather than nice juicy strips like really good brisket should be. If your standards are low for BBQ this might work for you, otherwise, the quest for good BBQ in Boulder County goes on..... read more

If I can't get to Rudy's near San Antonio, then this is my national next-best answer to a hankerin' for the real deal in BBQ. Both brisket and pork are fresh and smoky. They cook in the dry style without all sorts of sweet snot charred on as is the case with so many posers. Do they have other meats like ribs? Likely, but who cares? It's the pork, people from the pork people! I've been eating at Kirk & Trisha's cluster of BBQ outlets in the boulder area since they started and they're still true to their word. The sauces are great and most are vinegar based instead of sugar based. I especially like my pork sandwich in their "Elvis Special" incarnation, with slaw on top of the meat. Yum. read more

Comparable in price and weight to a 6-inch Subway sandwich, but much higher quality. Also, you will get a lot more meat than a subshop. Go to Subway if you want a salad on bread. This is a straightforward and simple barbecue place, with just a few dishes, available in various combinations. Your best bet is the Mike's Basket: barbecue sandwich with two sides and a drink. For meats I like the pork best, followed closely by the chicken. The hot links didn't have much taste. My favorite sides are the beans and the mashed potatoes; these both have a real home-made flavor, and the beans are cooked with tasty chunks of pork. The chile is OK but nothing special. The mac and cheese is also OK but not much different from what comes out of a box. They also have desserts (key lime pie and brownies) but I haven't tried those. They also sell all these items in bulk. Service is friendly but often slow, as the only have one station to prepare the meat and often the same server has to do the sides as well. read more

I was pretty stoked to grab lunch here- after reading the prior reviews. Unfortunately, things didn't go so well... I called in a pick up order and the lady on the phone was nice. Good start. When I arrived, I waited in line for over 5 minutes, which was disappointing because I had previously ordered. Got the food at around $9- a pulled pork sandwich, chips, beans, and a Sprite. Brought it back to the office, opened it up, and thought "this is all?" The sandwich was small, the side of beans equal to 5 spoon fulls, and a tremendous lack in flavor. To top it all off, after finishing my meal, I dumped the ice from the Sprite into the sink and found a dead ant stuck to an ice cube. I love BBQ, but I will not be going back. read more

Great food at a great price! Family meal was more than enough for our family of four. Pork was moist and brownies were huge. The three sauces were well flavored. The mild was definitely mild, medium was a step up and the liquid fire had awesome flavor with a good amount of heat! Cole slaw was homemade and wonderful. Baked beans were a bit spicy for not being labeled as such. Staff was fast and friendly. Environment was rustic, just what you would expect from a bbq joint! read more

Well, this is for all intents and purposes the original KT's, although some years ago it moved from ~64th & Arapahoe to its current location. We had only been to the 13th St. Boulder location all this time, but yesterday my son treated me to dinner at this location. Since I seldom eat meat, I am not the best person to review BBQs, period. KT's is a Memphis-style BBQ. The owners obviously created KT's with much love and care and grew it slowly into what it is today. There's really nothing wrong with KT's. Good sauce, good BBQ, good side dishes. Great for catering, which we experienced when my daughter graduated from high school, and at a Longmont friend's wedding reception. As far as true soulfulness and the authentic BBQ feel goes, though, Daddy Bruce's (run by his son!) further west on 20th and Arapahoe really takes the cake. read more

Spent 98 dollars forgot half my sides and a complete meal called and informed them about the mistake and was told maybe in and hour we can bring you the meal I paid for and was expecting, customer service is for the birds if one of our guys said that I would of fired them so I had to find a different meal for my guy and everyone else was shorted on there sides so I suggest some where else for you barbecue fix. unless you can handle half your order when you get home. read more

I have had many good experiences there, but also had one bad one. That one was addressed by the owner. I had one experience where I used on of their sauces, the spout was dried and clogged, and the lid was barely on, squeezing it, caused sauce to go everywhere. The workers that were there did nothing. After writing to the owner, he apologized, paid for shirt cleaning and paid for a couple future lunches. All reasonable I felt, On a whole, I like the food, and will be back. read more

It's surprisingly hard to find good BBQ in Boulder. I enjoy how it is never overly crowded and the food is consistent. This place cures my cravings and is appropriate for it's price. There BBQ salad is a great deal and lets me believe I am eating something healthy. But I have not had anything I didn't enjoy yet. The only thing that sticks out for me is there overall cleanliness. The only reason I give two stars is because the staff was friendly. The indoor seating isn't set up very well - when a line formed, people's butts were on our table. I'm from NC, so I know a thing or two about bbq. I was excited to try KT's because we'd been told to go there several times, and Colorado has some of the best meat I've tasted so far. Well, sadly, I feel that KT's must do everything they can to zap the flavor from that meat. Since we hadn't been there before, we ordered almost everything: brisket, ribs, chopped pork, and hot links. The hot links weren't bad, but everything else was tasteless, and the sauces left a bit to be desired. It's as if they boiled the meat, rather than smoked it, as there was no smoke taste. I like this place - the family pack "to go" is a staple of our dinner repertoire. Stopped in the other night with the kids to "eat in" for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised to learn they had milk as one of the drink options (I'm not a huge fan of my kids - or me - drinking soda). The chicken is usually dry and needs a lot of sauce. I've been going to KTs since they were at 64th & Arapahoe, and Kirk and Tricia worked the counter and the kitchen. I now go to this east Arapahoe location a couple times a month at least, for a take-home dinner. The family pack is a good deal, and if you visit regularly, get a card. I regularly get free Mike's baskets, or most recently, a free Family Pack. The counter staff is of varying quality - sometimes the music is a little off my preference and a little too loud. But the barbeque is my favorite - chicken and pork, plus mashed, slaw and hot-link sides. I used to be a big fan of the Killer Beans, less so now. Brownies are almost always very good. Our family's "Sweet Tea" fans were glad to see this added to the offerings recently. They rate it as high as Chick Fil'a's Sweet Tea. Good food, reasonable prices. Atmosphere so-so. read more
