WAAY overpriced! $22 got me 4 small slices of mediocre barbecue and mac and cheese. Terrible value for money!

It felt like the kind of place you'd want to spend an afternoon. The real standout was RJ behind the bar. He was welcoming, personable, and genuinely fun to talk to. His smoked Old Fashioned was fantastic and easily the highlight of our visit. In fact, we'd absolutely come back just to grab a drink and chat with him. Unfortunately, the food told a completely different story. We ordered the fish and chips, and it was one of the most disappointing versions of the dish I've ever had. The fish tasted like it had been cooked in oil that desperately needed to be changed. It was dark, overly greasy, and had that unmistakable burnt-oil flavor that overpowered everything else. Instead of light and crispy, it was heavy and saturated with grease. The fries somehow tasted more like fish than the fish itself, which was...impressive, just not in the way anyone hopes for. Then came the coleslaw. Calling it "slaw" feels generous. It was mostly dry kale with almost no dressing. If someone had told me it was meant to start a campfire, I would've believed them. It was so dry it could've doubled as kindling. The meal was disappointing enough that we decided not to order anything else, which was a shame because we had been looking forward to trying more of the menu. West End Tavern has all the ingredients to be a great spot--a beautiful space, an incredible whiskey selection, and a bartender who knows how to make guests feel welcome. I genuinely hope the kitchen takes another look at the fish and chips because, right now, it's doing the rest of the restaurant a disservice. Five stars for RJ and his smoked Old Fashioned. The fish and chips, though...let's just say the fryer deserved a vacation before we did.

For good brisket, GQue is way better and more flavorful. So spending almost $100 for 2 and it still costs money for sauce? Pure greed. The restaurant is only open Friday and Saturday 11am - 3 pm. This is a very popular spot amongst local, so get here as soon as it opens. We arrived around 11:30 am and there was already a long line that formed. It can take awhile to get to the front, but it's definitely worth the wait! We ordered the ribs and the brisket with mashed potatoes, beans and mac n cheese. We also ordered candied pork belly (not in the attached image). I believe the ribs and brisket are their popular options. Both were very flavorful. The ribs fell right off the bone. The brisket was juicy and tender. However, the candied pork belly was definitely an underdog. It was my favorite meat because it had that sweet and very rich barbecue flavor which made every bite so dreamy. For the sides, I didn't really find any over-the-top, but they were decent. Maybe the mac n cheese was a bit on the dry side, but still really good to pair with the barbecue.

I may be a decent baker, but salads are beyond me. This Market Salad is one of our favorites. Their dressing is unique and I've never had anything like it elsewhere. It is a maple vinaigrette though not really sweet, regardless of the name. It's more savory than sweet, but the touch of maple cannot be overlooked. The salad greens, tomatoes and quinoa add a great balance of textures. The "spring greens" this time of year has specialties I cannot duplicate in a grocery store as their greens come from local gardens where they have access. Besides these ready to eat items, for in house or take out, there are plenty of fresh meat options at the butcher counter and specialty prepared meat items like the lamb meatballs with Spanish seasonings, ready to cook and in the freezer case. I plan to try those soon.

Now these top-end cuts have a price tag that I'm guessing most of us have to save up for, but they have some "regular" cuts that will bring the yum at a more affordable price. The seasonal menu highlights the freshest CO produce too, so don't forget to add some greens to the plate. Service is relaxed and friendly, unlike some of those "fancy steakhouses."

I found myself at an event where this truck had been brought in to cater the food. Took a look at the menu and the special was a sandwich called "The Pineapple Express", consisting of pulled pork, grilled pineapple and 2 chunks of grilled pork belly for good measure. Naturally, I ordered it. It didn't disappoint. They asked if I wanted a side and I said mac and cheese, then they asked, "anything else?", and I jokingly said, "side of brisket". So they threw a pile of brisket on the plate as well. The mac and cheese and brisket were great, but the sandwich stole the show. I'd order any of it again. They also had a vegetarian sausage option which was a nice, albeit unexpected touch especially coming from a bbq joint that seems to specialize in meat, (as most do I suppose). The people were super friendly and handled a relatively large and somewhat demanding crowd while maintaining notably positive attitudes. Crazy good sandwiches, sides of brisket, veggie sausages and super nice people...what else could you ask for? Again, don't pass by this truck without stopping. You may not know what you're missing. 5 stars.
