Always down to try another bbq spot, even when it's clear on the other side of town! I tried them with a Too Good To Go order where you order ahead and get a mystery box for a set price. Ragin' Hog is a commodity on that site so when I saw they have availability, I snagged it right away! I got enough food for a couple meals including ribs, brisket, Cole slaw and a pork sandwich. I didn't love the ribs, they had some kind of curry rub that left a lot to be desired but everything else was fantastic. Added bonus for having a variety of bbq sauces on hand too. This is my go to place in north Denver when I don't t want to smoke my own barbecue. Closest to good homemade smoked meats as I have found If you want to try this bbq the sooner you get there better because once they run out of food they close for the day I was so happy to find this place before covid and so happy that they survived and seem to be thriving. They make you feel like family and don't put up with any funny business, what I mean is if you think you are going to watch a movie or play a video game on speakerphone, you got another thing coming. The place does look pricey, but once you get your food, you will notice this stuff is all well worth the price. You get quite the plate when it comes rolling out. Every order has sides and a dessert (or an additional side if you're shameless), so you get yourself stocked full pretty well. I do recommend the custard pie, it's sinfully delicious. Even with the small room to sit (they literally have like 5 tables in the joint), the service is still quick and quite friendly. The meats are smoky and delicious, too. Probably my favorite part of my work trip to Denver. The lady behind the counter was extremely nice and courteous and gave us recommendations when we couldn't decide. I ended up with the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad. They use sour cream in the potato salad so it's a bit different from what I'm used to on the east coast. The pulled pork was amazing. He talked about how they've been here 10+ years, and his pork & chicken are smoked with Hickory & fruit wood (the ratio is secret)... Beginning on the pork with a dry rub with basted secret sauces... The chicken is cooked smoky without a sauce which is added later. We added the custard pie to our 3 meat combo deal : pork ribs, burnt ends & chicken. All delicious with our sampling of several sauces... It was so good that I added a few more pork ribs as we were leaving. Incredibly friendly conversation with the owners. Great corn bread & collared greens. I just have so much more up add but it's just the BEST & Most Friendly BBQ visit I've had in memory. So why only 5 stars? Was greeted with the warmest welcome I haven't received in a long time. The lady working there was SO friendly I felt like I was visiting a family friend. So we got some bbq to go. The meats were a hit or miss: Brisket: Miss. Very very dry and I had to give the rest to my boyfriend who drenched the meat in sauce. Burnt ends: BIG HIT. My boyfriend ordered this one and it was SO delicious I wish I ordered that for myself. It was so good I didn't even need to dip it in any sauce at all. It was perfect the way it was. Sausage link: Hit! I was skeptical because the pictures made it look like regular ol rubbery tasteless sausages you can get at the supermarket but luckily the seasoning they put made it a hundred times better. Texture was not rubbery at all. Pork: Miss. Not as deathly dry as the brisket but still pretty dry. I had high expectations going here and was a little disappointed but I wonder if that was due to going at off peak hours. We came around 2pm and they were sold out of burnt ends which is what I was most looking forward to. Their brisket was good as was the pulled pork and sausage but nothing really stood out and it was a bit cold. They were served with buns that were a bit stale and not toasted. The mac n cheese was very liquidy and not cheesy enough for my liking. I did however fall in love with their buttermilk pie and for 3$ a slice you cannot go wrong. Yep, give this place five stars all the way. What a great place to eat. I went here last Saturday and it was my birthday dinner. We arrived at 5, the place closes at 6 and they were almost out of meat, so they shut down and we had the whole place to ourself. It was so great. The husband and wife (wish I remember their names) were so wonderful to us. We ate so much food and took plenty of it home. The brisket was great, but my favorite of everything was the green chili. Solid BBQ with a nice assortment of sauces and delicious desserts! I'm always looking for good BBQ and this was a decent little find. I'm a Pulled Pork kinda guy and enjoyed the Pulled Pork Sandwich. The flavor was there but tasted a little dry. The meat definitely needed a lot more sauce, but still had a nice smokey taste to it. The sauces were amazing though and definitely saved the whole meal! The Mac and cheese could of used a little more love but the Baked Beans we're fantastic and the Buttermilk Pie stole the show! I was pleasantly surprised how good this dessert was. Finally made it in at lunch. Place was quiet by 1 pm, but it was after feasting for Super Bowl. I had the beef brisket which was very good, but not quite Texas quality, more like TN brisket. The chopped pork was very good. Some smoke and minimal bark in my serving which was a generous portion. The Brunswick stew was excellent, hot and spicy. I would recommend and return again, but AJ's is still my number one go to in Denver for beef que and beef ribs. read more

A friend turned me on to this place and I was hungry for some yummy Q... So I ordered a rack of ribs, burnt ends, Brunswick Stew, baked beans, cole slaw, and mac n cheese... plus a full complement of their BBQ sauces. I have to say this was the BEST comfort food I have ever had here in Colorado. The ribs - besides being an enormously generous portion, was smokey, fall of the bone tender, succulent, smack my lips Yumminess!!! The burnt ends - another generous portion, smokey, full of flavor, tender and juicy... Both meats were complemented by the various regional flavorful sauces... but to be honest neither needed the extra flavoring and were scrumptious just NAKED. The sides were all very tasty on their own... the mac n cheese was creamy and put my Mom's to shame - the coleslaw was sweet and savory, crunchy and fresh... the beans just perfect... but the Brunswick stew - wowee... that my friend is a meal in its self - packed full of everything and spiced just right... a true palette delight Now my friends have enjoyed the ambiance of the quaint restaurant. It's a small space with I think about 5 or 6 tables inside & a couple outside. The woman at the counter was very friendly & took our order immediately so that was great. My 3 stars is for the food mainly. My wife and I split a 3 meat combo & had a slice of the buttermilk pie. We loved the pie! A must order! Our 3 meats were brisket, burnt ends and sausage. Sides were coleslaw & cornbread. Unfortunately the brisket & burnt ends were very dry & lacked flavor. Really good brisket should just pull apart but ours did not. There was just no tenderness whatsoever. Fortunately they have a great sauce bar with several different kinds & that helped the meat along. I thought the sausage was better, but again a little dry & lacked flavor. Once again sauce saved the day. We really liked the flavor of the coleslaw, but I thought it maybe had too much dressing as it was a bit soupy. Cornbread also dry unfortunately.
