First time here. The burnt ends were the best I had. Moist and smokey flavor. And you get desert with a combo meal. Try the buttermilk pie. Service was super nice, like she really cared about your happiness. The wait for food was short with a steady stream of customers. There's only 3 outdoor tables that look out to a Safeway parking lot. No indoor dining yet, besides its very small. The only minor thing I can think of is they don't serve on those metal trays. Raging hog's BBQ is excellent. It's the type of place that sells out of meats early. So make sure YOU get there early! Last visit we sampled the baby back ribs which were so delicious and full of meat, as well as the hot link and it was equally as delicious as the ribs. I recommend the Mac and cheese and potato salad for sides. The Mac and cheese is traditional in a nice cheese sauce. Like, I'm cool with Brothers BBQ stuff (chain/franchise places) in a pinch, but love checking out a real deal type of place. Which this is. This place brings home hospitality, kindness and they don't rush u out and they don't require u to pay immediately. Very friendly and there meats are super good. Finally got around to hitting this place up for lunch on my local BBQ tour and I have really mixed emotions. I really want to love this place, but the food was just ok. I have eaten at a few BBQ joints in Arkansas as I go there often, and Ragin' Hog is fairly comparable to many of them in that the meats are typically not that great plain and they focus on the sauce. I tried the pork, ribs, green beans, BBQ beans, slaw, and ice tea. The good stuff: Super nice and helpful owners Very clean restaurant and restrooms Chill hole-in-the-wall vibe Tasty BBQ sauces Very reasonable prices Decent quality sides Large portions Smooth tea The 'meh: Meat was tender but a little dry No smoke flavor No bark I will probably give it another shot next time I am in the area due to the prices being so low ($17 for two meats, two sides, dessert, and drink!) and I want to try the dessert (stuck with my resolution for the month). read more

Before I give my opinion in any detail beyond some stars, I feel it's important to say... I don't give a damn what your favorite style of BBQ is. That's because I didn't grow up with a BBQ tradition to have been indoctrinated into. In fact, I never knew what good food of any sort was until I escaped the midwest. The midwest has some nice values, so it's a good place to be FROM. It's a good place to be FROM because the midwest doesn't know anything about decent food except comfort foods, and some of those - such as Aunt Agnes' Famous Jello Salad are referred to be entirely different names in other parts of the country. Names such as Culinary Abomination or Crime Against Humanity. Having that sort of gustatory upbringing really makes one appreciate good food all the more once one is finally exposed to it, and it tends to dissuade one from religious beliefs about food. As a result, I am BBQ agnostic. I think if BBQ is made well, the style doesn't matter, it will be tasty. And, like pizza, I believe that if you are one of those who claims there is only One True BBQ, and no other sort is worth making or eating, then I suggest that maybe you don't actually like barbecue as much as you think you do. All this to establish my biases about barbecue, since so many people seem to think said biases are so darned important. Ragin Hog is proud that they make Southern Style barbecue and none other. Well that's fine and dandy, but you dear reader need to understand that I couldn't define Southern Style BBQ if you put a gun to my head. I don't CARE. What I do care about is quality, and for me that revolves around the moisture/dryness and texture of the meat, the sauces or rubs not sucking (obviously) and especially how heavily smoked it is. A major let-down for me is when the meat just doesn't smell smoky to me. Note: I don't smoke tobacco and I have a damn fine sense of smell when I'm not having a rare allergy moment. There's a Texas style joint in Superior that smells great when you walk in, but if you take the meat away and smell it later, it's as if yours was made somewhere else, somewhere without all that annoying smoke in the air. So if I get some joint's takeout home, I hope and expect that when I open the container it will smell like a campfire. Ragin Hog's meat is like that. It's smoky. It's good too. They have Georgia, Memphis, and Carolina style sauces, which aren't overly sweet (yay!) and I do love me some sauces, but if you don't, and your priority is nicely-smoked meats, man, you can just stop looking, at least in the Highlands area - we don't have anything else in the area that I've found that even comes close. Their portions are generous; we picked up takeout 2 days ago (they hardly seem to do any in-house business, they only have a small dining area, and I've never seen anyone using it so CV-19 hopefully isn't impacting them too badly), I bought what I assumed would give us two meals each, and my wife and I have just finished meal pair #3 and we still have leftovers. I've lived close to this place for years, but finally stopped by today since I was at the DMV. It was lunchtime on a Thursday (although during pandemic) and there was no line - just one other customer. Based on how fantastic the food was, I'm shocked that this place isn't packed! Pros: The burnt ends are on another level. Almost perfect. The sides punches above their weight class too. I ordered the collard greens to be "healthy" and they were surprisingly delicious. The green chile stew was excellent as well. The buttermilk pie was fantastic. Cons: None, really. The brisket was pedestrian, but I didn't specifiy if I wanted lean or fatty-side. They were very lean, which is fine if you're into that. I lived in TX for 9 years and have been to all of the legendary BBQ joints in TX (Snows, Luling, Black's, Kreuz, Killen's, LA Barbecue, Louie Mueller, etc). This is a hole in the wall place that all the locals know about because the people who run it are friendly, the food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. My mom had a 2 meat combo meal and raved about how the potato salad was creamy deliciousness, the green beans were seasoned perfectly and the meat was soft butter tender. I agree about the meat, I had brisket and would add the corn bread would make a Southerner miss home and the sweet BBQ sauce was delightful. It ain't a fancy place but it has all you need. read more

The ribs are so well finihed, so meaty +falling off the bone. The generous portions on sandwiches never disappoint. Now this place does good southern BBQ! I love this place a lot. The tenderness of their meat is just right. It follows the rules of BBQ in terms of you don't need to add anything and I mean anything to it. The meat still had a nice rich flavor that was delicious and savory. The amount of meat they give you is always perfection. You should always be given a bit more than can fit on the bun and they made sure that was well taken care of. I had enough for anouther small meal a few hours later which worked out well. The pork was done perfectly. Their sides are also made nicely and had a nice flavor to them. The amount of sides they have are also wonderful in terms of different things to choose from. They are the only BBQ place in Denver that so far has my southern approval lol. What a cool little local spot! This place has been here for so long and I cannot believe I have never tried it before. Have always heard some great things about it and I am so glad I finally came in to bring some food home for dinner. I had the two meat plate, with chicken and pork. Tasty BBQ joint tucked inside a shopping complex. Don't expect any decorative frills, just good comfort food, huge portions, and warm service. I was impressed they had five different kinds of sauces, three of which pay culinary homage to specific BBQ regions (Carolina, Georgia, and Memphis). You generally don't see more than three sauces at other BBQ establishments. The elbow macaroni and gooey cheese was better than most, and the baked beans were even a notch above that. Half a rack of baby back ribs, two sides, dessert and a drink for $16 is quite a reasonable price. The ribs were tender but not fall off the bones and had a smoky flavor. They were not meaty so half a rack was not really a lot. There were 5 types of BBQ sauce on the table: Carolina, Georgia, hot, Memphis and sweet. I tried all 5 of them and they all tasted different. The sweet appeared to be the most popular as the bottle was only half full. In my opinion, sweet was also the best with the ribs. The two sides I chose were collard greens which had a very tasty broth with it, mac and cheese was okay, nothing special. The red velvet cookie was soft and not too sweet which I like.
