2 out of 5 stars "Had high hopes, but the flavor just didn't follow through." The Jerk Pit Smokehouse definitely gives off that classic hole-in-the-wall vibe that foodies like us live for. It's tucked into a very nice part of Denver, surrounded by other restaurants, with people strolling and enjoying the neighborhood. The outdoor seating was actually a highlight--great atmosphere for soaking in the city while waiting on food. Inside, it's a cozy little spot, probably seats about 30 max, and has that smokehouse/jerk shack energy going for it. We were a party of five, and since we travel to eat, we always do family-style and sample a wide range of menu items. Here's what stood out (and what didn't): * Catfish Nuggets: The best thing we had--crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. * Jerk Wings (flats): Solid flavor and texture. Unfortunately, the small drumsticks were dry and overcooked. * BBQ Rib Tips: Good smoky taste, but they weren't as tender as we hoped. * Fried Okra: Cooked perfectly--crispy on the outside, not a trace of sliminess. Definitely appreciated this one! * Fried Pickles: Crunchy but lacked a flavor punch. * Smoked Brisket Chili: Disappointing--missing depth and any memorable flavor. * Mac & Cheese: Just okay. Needed more creaminess or seasoning to shine. * Chicken Wrap, Chicken Tenders & Fries: Tenders were overcooked and dry, and the wrap didn't stand out. Overall, the menu didn't deliver that "we've got to come back" experience we look for on our foodie adventures. There wasn't a standout dish that wowed us or made us want to tell our friends to try it. We also overheard what sounded like the chef in the back expressing frustration. Could've been an off day, but it felt like that tension showed up in the food. Sometimes you can taste when the kitchen isn't quite in harmony. This spot has potential, and the location really sets a nice scene, but for us, it missed the mark. Nothing was terrible, but nothing made us want more. Just didn't have that "wow" factor we look for when we eat our way through a new city.

This place I found has only been open a few weeks. I was surprised as the food and service seemed to flow like they've been open a long time. The food, we got the dip and bbq jerk pork and both were great. The au jus was amazing and probably needs to be served with every sandwich. The sandoa came with creole fries and they were undercooked but still flavorful. The drinks are great, good price and only suggestions I have would be to offer full service to tables. I could see live music being super fun here, nothing big due to space but this is a cute space I see evolving to a very cozy locals spot with some fun apps and social hour. They do a cross promotion with a dispensary, if you spend $25 you get a % off coupon to use. I hope more people learn of this place, I think you'll be surprised at the food and drinks and how reasonable the price is for a wonderful flavor!

Super flavorful jerk chicken, a little smoky, a little spicy. Delicious curry potato salad and some of the most incredible red beans and rice I've ever had....Looking at you New Orleans. Highly recommended.

Chef Scott and very happy patron

Parking: easy, in a lot with many spaces. Food: Empanadas - shell was crispy and well-cooked. The shredded chicken filling was good, nothing special but still tasty. Would try a different filling next time. Overall rating 3/5. Cuban sandwich - the bread was thicker and more "sub"-like than many cubanos I have had in the past. Also had garlic cloves in it which was a nice surprise (I love garlic). Came with rice and beans. Pretty good, would get again. Overall rating 4/5. Ropa vieja - comes with beans and rice. Quite salty on its own, but balances out nicely when eaten with rice. Would get again. Overall rating 4/5. Guava & cheese empanada dessert - same size as the appetizer empanada. Delicious! The cream cheese goes very well with the guava and is well-balanced. Would get again. Overall rating 5/5.

We had a little extra time and wanted to treat ourselves to some good food with real Caribbean flavor and culture. My wife had been craving oxtails, so that was the first thing on the list. She ordered the oxtails with rice and peas and plantains, and the plate came out absolutely on point -- tender, rich in flavor, and cooked with real care. I went with the jerk chicken and also grabbed a curry chicken patty and a jerk chicken patty. The seasoning, the flavor, and the preparation were all excellent. Every bite had that authentic island taste that lets you know the kitchen knows exactly what it's doing. The kids enjoyed chicken strips with fries, and they had some great Caribbean-style drinks -- mango passionfruit and guava pineapple. The grown-ups enjoyed rum punch, and I also had a sorrel drink that was refreshing and full of flavor. The atmosphere was welcoming from the moment we stepped inside. Good music was playing with those old-school island vibes, creating a relaxed environment where you could really enjoy the food and the moment. Before we headed out to catch our Uber, I even picked up a dread cap -- black with red, yellow, and green stripes -- a nice cultural touch to take home. The food was magnificent, the drinks were excellent, and the whole experience was solid all around. If you're looking for authentic Caribbean cooking done right, Reggae Pot is definitely worth the visit. Bless up.

After reading other reviews and checking out photos beforehand, I knew the Colorado lamb was a must-order. It's not something I usually go for, but it ended up being my favorite dish of the night. Absolutely worth the hype. We also ordered the birria short rib and hickory smoked picanha, and both were solid choices. The shrimp and corn grits were amazing, and I really loved the aged cheddar mac and cheese. Other dishes like the chickpea croquettes and the chili relleno were also pretty good and rounded out the meal nicely. The wait staff was fantastic. Super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The restaurant itself has a cool, lively vibe. The only minor downside was that the outdoor heaters were a bit too hot, but that's a very small nitpick. Overall, an easy 5 out of 5 stars. Great food, great service, and a place I'd happily come back to.
