Ambiance: One of the cleanest restaurants I've ever been in. You can eat off the floors! Spacious and interesting interior. Loved the exposed brick. But the music was too loud & bumpin for a Sunday evening meal (in my opinion). Had to talk over it. Rating: 4.5/5 Food: I'm sensitive to profit margins and such. When I go to small businesses, I try not to ask for "extras". All I wanted was the fried pork chops with no gravy (they come smothered). The waitress said that wasn't possible. I asked why-all I wanted was for them NOT to put gravy on the pork-chops (I was going to get it on the side). She was adamant that wasn't possible and couldn't give me a reason why. Only thing I can figure is the pork-chops were pre-made and already smothered. So I got the fried chicken, cabbage, and yams with white bread. Cabbage was shredded (different than what I'm used to, but not bad.) Hot sauce gave them some flavor. Yams were very sweet, but I enjoyed them. Both portions of sides were TINY. Especially considering the a la carte price of over $5 per side. The fried chicken was...ok. Which is surprising since I always enjoyed their wings. Now, I was asked whether I wanted cornbread ot white bread. I said white bread & when I said white bread, I was expecting a roll. But I literally got four pieces of wonder bread. No butter either. I was going to get the Red Kool-Aide but they only had Blue. I understand, not a big deal and I even joked with the server about it. I settled for water. Then I saw the price for Kool-Aide: $4.50 and NO REFILLS!!! Egregious. I could see a limit on refills. But NO refills for $4.50??? IKYFL. Rating: 3/5 Service: MUCH improved since my first visit. I had a reservation, and arrived on time. I was greeted by the friendly hostess and sat immediately. But it went south with the previously mentioned pork chop issue. The server could've said "Let me ask if we can do that." No good reason and no attempt to see if anything could be done. No salt and pepper on the table and when I asked for some, I was given tiny packets. My glass was kept full of water by different people, all of whom were polite. But my waitress only came to the table after delivering our food once. The hostess actually cleared our table and brought a little machine over to take payment. No printed receipt, just reading the items from the machine and given a total. Strange and a little off-putting. I want to look at a paper receipt. But that's just me. No offer of dessert, just the bill and a thanks for coming. Rating: 2. Overall rating out of a possible 15, they earned a 9.5. A very generous "3 Stars". Today was my birthday and I was really looking forward to it. I left disappointed. I eat at a lot of restaurants and take people to lunch at least 2x per week. I tend to take people to the same places when I can get a consistently good experience. This being my 3rd visit and I'm still not satisfied, I can't say I'll be back.
